Abstract:Let $H_k$, $k\in {\mathbb{N}}$, be the Hilbert spaces of geometric quantization on a Kähler manifold $M$. With two points in $M$ we associate a Bell-type state $b_k \in H_k\otimes H_k$. When $M$ is compact or when $M$ is ${\mathbb{C}}^n$, we provide positive lower bounds for the entanglement entropy of $b_k$ (asymptotic in $k$, as $k\to\infty$).

Abstract:We determine the $N\to \infty$ asymptotics of the expected value of entanglement entropy in $H_{1,N}\otimes H_{2,N}$, where $H_{1,N}$ and $H_{2,N}$ are the spaces of holomorphic sections of the $N$-th tensor powers of hermitian ample line bundles on compact complex manifolds.

Abstract:Coherent or semiclassical states in canonical quantum gravity describe the classical Schwarzschild space-time. By tracing over the coherent state wavefunction inside the horizon, a density matrix is derived. Bekenstein-Hawking entropy is obtained from the density matrix, modulo the Immirzi parameter. The expectation value of the area and curvature operator is evaluated in these states. The behaviour near the singularity of the curvature operator shows that the singularity is resolved. We then generalise the results to space-times with spherically symmetric apparent horizons.

Thermal Entropy in Calabi-Yau Quantum Mechanics

Abstract:We consider the von Neumann entropy of a thermal mixed state in quantum systems derived from mirror curves, where the kinetic terms are exponential functions of the momentum operators. Using the mathematical results on the asymptotics of the energy eigenvalues, we compute the asymptotic entropy in high temperature limit and compare with that of the conventional models. We discuss the connections with some folklores in quantum gravity, particularly on the finiteness of entropy.

Abstract:We investigate the entropy bound for local quantum field theory in this Letter. Both the bosonic and fermionic fields confined to an asymptotically flat space–time are examined. By imposing the non-gravitational collapse condition, we find both of them are limited by the same entropy bound A3/4, where A is the boundary area of the region where the quantum fields are contained in. The gap between this entropy bound and the holographic entropy has been verified.

Abstract:This paper looks at the intersection of algorithmic information theory and physics, namely quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and black holes. We discuss theorems which characterize the barrier between the quantum world and the classical realm. The notion of a ``semi-classical subspace'' is introduced. Partial signals and partial information cloning can be obtained on quantum states in semi-classical subspaces. The No Synchronization Law is detailed, which says separate and isolated physical systems evolving over time cannot have algorithmic thermodynamic entropies that are in synch. We look at future work involving the Kolmogorov complexity of black holes.

Abstract:We study consequences of applying formalism of symplectic geometry to quantum mechanics. We propose a physical interpretation of a symplectic indicator of entanglement, introduced in [1], given by the degeneracy of the symplectic form on manifolds of locally unitary equivalent states. We show that this degeneracy can be understood as an ambiguity of some classical dynamic.

Entanglement entropy in type II$_1$ von Neumann algebra: examples in Double-Scaled SYK

Abstract:An intriguing feature of type II$_1$ von Neumann algebra is that the entropy of the mixed states is negative. Although the type classification of von Neumann algebra and its consequence in holography have been extensively explored recently, there has not been an explicit calculation of entropy in some physically interesting models with type II$_1$ algebra. In this paper, we study the entanglement entropy $S_n$ of the fixed length state $\{|n\rangle\}$ in Double-Scaled Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model, which has been recently shown to exhibit type II$_1$ von Neumann algebra. These states furnish an orthogonal basis for 0-particle chord Hilbert space. We systematically study $S_n$ and its Rényi generalizations $S_n^{(m)}$ in various limit of DSSYK model, ranging $q\in[0,1]$. We obtain exotic analytical expressions for the scaling behavior of $S_n^{(m)}$ at large $n$ for random matrix theory limit ($q=0$) and SYK$_2$ limit ($q=1$), for the former we observe highly non-flat entanglement spectrum. We then dive into triple scaling limits where the fixed chord number states become the geodesic wormholes with definite length connecting left/right AdS$_2$ boundary in Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity. In semi-classical regime, we match the boundary calculation of entanglement entropy with the dilaton value at the center of geodesic, as a nontrivial check of the Ryu-Takayanagi formula.

Curvature of Gaussian quantum states

Abstract:The space of quantum states can be endowed with a metric structure using the second order derivatives of the relative entropy, giving rise to the so-called Kubo-Mori-Bogoliubov inner product. We explore its geometric properties on the submanifold of faithful, zero-displacement Gaussian states parameterised by their covariance matrices, deriving expressions for the geodesic equations, curvature tensors and scalar curvature. Our analysis suggests that the curvature of the manifold is strictly monotonic with respect to the von Neumann entropy, and thus can be interpreted as a measure of state uncertainty. This provides supporting evidence for the Petz conjecture in continuous variable systems.

Abstract:We study the entanglement for a state on linked torus boundaries in 3d Chern-Simons theory with a generic gauge group and present the asymptotic bounds of Rényi entropy at two different limits: (i) large Chern-Simons coupling k, and (ii) large rank r of the gauge group. These results show that the Rényi entropies cannot diverge faster than ln k and ln r, respectively. We focus on torus links T (2, 2n) with topological linking number n. The Rényi entropy for these links shows a periodic structure in n and vanishes whenever n = 0 (mod p), where the integer p is a function of coupling k and rank r. We highlight that the refined Chern-Simons link invariants can remove such a periodic structure in n.

Abstract:The recent developments in the study of topological multi-boundary entanglement in the context of 3d Chern-Simons theory (with gauge group $G$ and level $k$) suggest a strong interplay between entanglement measures and number theory. The purpose of this note is twofold. First, we conjecture that the 'sum of the negative powers of the quantum dimensions of all integrable highest weight representations at level $k$' is an integer multiple of the Witten zeta function of $G$ when $k \to \infty$. This provides an alternative way to compute these zeta functions, and we present some examples. Next, we use this conjecture to investigate number-theoretic properties of the Rényi entropies of the quantum state associated with the $S^3$ complement of torus links of type $T_{p,p}$. In particular, we show that in the semiclassical limit of $k \to \infty$, these entropies converge to a finite value. This finite value can be written in terms of the Witten zeta functions of the group $G$ evaluated at positive even integers.

Abstract:We revisit the connection between entanglement entropy and quantum metric in topological lattice systems, and provide an elegant and concise proof of this connection. In gapped two-dimensional lattice models with well-defined tight-binding Hamiltonians, we show that the entanglement entropy is intimately related to the quantum metric of electronic states.

Abstract:We show that, given a real or complex hyperbolic metric $g_0$ on a closed manifold $M$ of dimension $n\geq 3$, there exists a neighborhood $\mathcal U$ of $g_0$ in the space of negatively curved metrics such that for any $g\in \mathcal U$, the topological entropy and Liouville entropy of $g$ coincide if and only if $g$ and $g_0$ are homothetic. This provides a partial answer to Katok's entropy rigidity conjecture. As a direct consequence of our theorem, we obtain a local rigidity result of the hyperbolic rank near complex hyperbolic metrics.

Duality and entanglement in lattice gauge theories

Abstract:The study of entanglement in quantum field theories provides insight into universal properties which are typically challenging to extract by means of local observables. However, calculations of quantities related to entanglement in gauge theories are limited by ambiguities that stem from the non-factorizability of the Hilbert space. On the other hand, (2+1)-dimensional lattice gauge theories are known to admit a dual description in terms of spin models, for which the replica trick and Rényi entropies are well defined. In this contribution, we exploit Kramers-Wannier duality to perform a numerical study of the entropic c-function of the (2+1)-dimensional $\mathbb{Z}_2$ gauge theory in the continuum limit. Our results are compared with analytical predictions from holographic models.

Kaluza-Klein discreteness of the entropy: Symmetrical bath and CFT subsystem

Abstract:We explore the entanglement entropy of CFT systems in contact with large bath system, such that the complete system lives on the boundary of $AdS_{d+1}$ spacetime. We are interested in finding the HEE of a bath (system-B) in contact with a central subsystem-A. We assume that the net size of systems A and B together remains fixed while allowing variation in individual sizes. This assumption is simply guided by the conservation laws. It is found that for large bath size the island entropy term are important. However other subleading (icebergs) terms do also contribute to bath entropy. The contributions are generally not separable from each other and all such contributions add together to give rise a fixed quantity. Further when accounted properly all such contributions will form part of higher entropy branch for the bath. Nevertheless the HEE of bath system should be subjected to minimality principle. The quantum minimality principle $ S_{quantum}[B]=\{S[A], S_{total}+S[A]\}_{min}$, is local in nature and gives rise to the Page curve. It is shown that the changes in bath entropy do capture Kaluza-Klein discreteness. The minimality principle would be applicable in finite temperature systems as well.

Entanglement entropy in conformal quantum mechanics

Abstract:We consider sets of states in conformal quantum mechanics associated to generators of time evolution whose orbits cover different regions of the time domain. States labelled by a continuous global time variable define the two-point correlation functions of the theory seen as a one-dimensional conformal field theory. Such states exhibit the structure of a thermofield double built on bipartite eigenstates of generators of non-global time evolution. In terms of the correspondence between radial conformal symmetries in Minkowski spacetime and time evolution in conformal quantum mechanics proposed in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2002.01836" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2002.01836">arXiv:2002.01836</a>, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2103.07228" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2103.07228">arXiv:2103.07228</a>, such generators coincide with conformal Killing vectors tangent to worldlines of Milne and diamond observers at constant radius. The temperature of the thermofield double states in conformal quantum mechanics reproduces the temperatures perceived by such diamond and Milne observers. We calculate the entanglement entropy associated to the thermofield double states and obtain a UV divergent logarithmic behaviour analogous to known results in two-dimensional conformal field theory in which the entangling boundary is point-like.

Abstract:We review some classic works on ground state entanglement entropy in ( 1+1 )-dimensional free scalar field theory. We point out identifications between the methods for the calculation of entanglement entropy and we show how the formalism developed for the discretized theory can be utilized in order to obtain results in the continuous theory. We specify the entanglement spectrum and we calculate the entanglement entropy for the theory defined on an interval of finite length L . Finally, we derive the modular Hamiltonian directly, without using the modular flow, via the continuum limit of the expressions obtained in the discretized theory. Abstract:We study semiclassical measures for Laplacian eigenfunctions on compact complex hyperbolic quotients. Geodesic flows on these quotients are a model case of hyperbolic dynamical systems with different expansion/contraction rates in different directions. We show that the support of any semiclassical measure is either equal to the entire cosphere bundle or contains the cosphere bundle of a compact immersed totally geodesic complex submanifold.

Entanglement entropy in quantum black holes

Abstract:We discuss the entanglement entropy for a massive Klein-Gordon field in two Schwarzschild-like quantum black hole spacetimes, also including a nonminimal coupling term with the background scalar curvature. To compute the entanglement entropy, we start from the standard spherical shell discretisation procedure, tracing over the degrees of freedom residing inside an imaginary surface. We estimate the free parameters for such quantum metrics through a simple physical argument based on Heisenberg uncertainty principle, along with alternative proposals as asymptotic safety, trace anomaly, and graviton corpuscular scaling. Our findings reveal a significant decrease in entropy compared to the area law near the origin for the quantum metrics. In both scenarios, the entanglement entropy converges to the expected area law sufficiently far from the origin. We then compare these results to the entropy scaling in regular Hayward and corrected-Hayward spacetimes to highlight the main differences with such regular approaches.
