In particular, this workshop is intended to bring together scientists and practitioners who are active in the area of formal methods and interested in exchanging their experiences in the industrial usage of these methods. Abstract:The aim of the FESCA workshop is to bring together both young and senior researchers from formal methods, software engineering, and industry interested in the development and application of formal modelling approaches as well as associated analysis and reasoning techniques with practical benefits for component-based software engineering. Component-based software design has received considerable attention in industry and academia in the past decade. In recent years, with the emergence of new platforms (such as smartphones), new areas advocating software correctness along with new challenges have appeared. These include development of new methods and adapting existing ones to accommodate unique features of the platforms, such as inherent distribution, openness, and continuous migration. On the other hand, with the growing power of computers, more and more is possible with respect to practical applicability of modelling and specification methods as well as verification tools to real-life software, i.e, to scale to more complex systems. FESCA aims to address the open question of how formal methods can be applied effectively to these new contexts and challenges. The workshop is interested in both the development and application of formal methods in component-based development and tries to cross-fertilize their research and application.

Abstract:These are the proceedings of the 14th International Workshop on Formal Engineering approaches to Software Components and Architectures (FESCA). The workshop was held on April 22, 2017 in Uppsala (Sweden) as a satellite event to the European Joint Conference on Theory and Practice of Software (ETAPS'17). The aim of the FESCA workshop is to bring together junior researchers from formal methods, software engineering, and industry interested in the development and application of formal modelling approaches as well as associated analysis and reasoning techniques with practical benefits for software engineering. In recent years, the growing importance of functional correctness and the increased relevance of system quality properties (e.g. performance, reliability, security) have stimulated the emergence of analytical and modelling techniques for the design and development of software systems. With the increasing complexity and utilization of today's software systems, FESCA aims at addressing two research questions: (1) what role is played by the software design phase in the systematic addressing of the analytical and modelling challenges, and (2) how can formal and semi-formal techniques be effectively applied to make the issues easier to address automatically, with lower human intervention.

The meeting was originally scheduled to take place in Dublin, Ireland on the 25th of April as a satellite event of the European Joint Conferences on Theory & Practice of Software (ETAPS 2020). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ETAPS 2020, and consequently MSFP 2020, has been postponed to a date yet to be determined. The MSFP workshop highlights applications of mathematical structures to programming applications. We promote the use of category theory, type theory, and formal language semantics to the development of simple and reasonable programs. This year's papers cover a variety of topics ranging from array programming to dependent types to effects.

Abstract:The seventh workshop on Mathematically Structured Functional Programming is devoted to the derivation of functionality from structure. It is a celebration of the direct impact of Theoretical Computer Science on programs as we write them today. Modern programming languages, and in particular functional languages, support the direct expression of mathematical structures, equipping programmers with tools of remarkable power and abstraction. Where would Haskell be without monads? Functional reactive programming without arrows? Call-by-push-value without adjunctions? The list goes on. This workshop is a forum for researchers who seek to reflect mathematical phenomena in data and control. The seventh workshop on Mathematically Structured Functional Programming was held on 8th July 2018 affiliated with FSCD 2018 as part of FLoC 2018 in Oxford, UK. There were two invited talks. In addition four full papers and two extended abstracts were selected by the programme committee for presentation.

Abstract:This volume contains the proceedings of MARS 2022, the fifth workshop on Models for Formal Analysis of Real Systems, held as part of ETAPS 2022, the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software. The MARS workshops bring together researchers from different communities who are developing formal models of real systems in areas where complex models occur, such as networks, cyber-physical systems, hardware/software co-design, biology, etc. The motivation and aim for MARS stem from the following two observations: * Large case studies are essential to show that specification formalisms and modelling techniques are applicable to real systems, whereas many research papers only consider toy examples or tiny case studies. * Developing an accurate model of a real system takes a large amount of time, often months or years. In most scientific papers, however, salient details of the model need to be skipped due to lack of space, and to leave room for formal verification methodologies and results. The MARS workshops aim at remedying these issues, emphasising modelling over verification, so as to retain lessons learnt from formal modelling, which are not usually discussed elsewhere.
