Abstract:In this note, we give a self-contained account on a construction for a directed homology theory based on modules over algebras, linking it to both persistence homology and natural homology. We study its first properties, among which some exact sequences.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper attempts to address the problem of establishing a connection between directed topology and persistent homology theory, and to explore the overlap and convergence between these two frameworks. Specifically, the main objectives of the paper include: 1. **Defining Directed Homology Modules**: The paper proposes a directed homology theory based on bimodules over the path algebra of precubical sets. This allows for the study of the homology of path spaces in precubical sets. 2. **Linking Persistent Homology and Natural Homology**: The paper attempts to relate directed homology with persistent homology and natural homology theories. Specifically, for certain categories of directed spaces (such as cubical complexes), it proves the equivalence between directed homology modules and natural homology. 3. **Exploring Invariants and Properties**: The paper investigates the properties of the defined homology modules as homeomorphism invariants and proves some important theorems about these homology modules, such as the Küneth formula, relative homology sequences, and the Mayer-Vietoris theorem. 4. **Computational Complexity Issues**: The paper also addresses the cost of computing these homologies in practical applications and attempts to simplify the computation by introducing a finite representation framework. In summary, the paper aims to promote the interaction and integration between directed topology and persistent homology theory by constructing a new directed homology theory, and provides a theoretical foundation for solving practical computational problems.
