Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex projective variety with only canonical singularities and with trivial canonical bundle. Let $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$. Assume that the pair $(X,L)$ is the flat limit of a family of smooth polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds. Assume that for each singular point $x \in X$ there exist a Kahler-Einstein Fano manifold $Z$ and a positive integer $q$ dividing $K_Z$ such that $-\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ is very ample and such that the germ $(X,x)$ is locally analytically isomorphic to a neighborhood of the vertex of the blow-down of the zero section of $\frac{1}{q}K_{Z}$. We prove that up to biholomorphism, the unique weak Ricci-flat Kahler metric representing $2\pi c_1(L)$ on $X$ is asymptotic at a polynomial rate near $x$ to the natural Ricci-flat Kahler cone metric on $\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ constructed using the Calabi ansatz. In particular, our result applies if $(X, \mathcal{O}(1))$ is a nodal quintic threefold in $\mathbb{P}^4$. This provides the first known examples of compact Ricci-flat manifolds with non-orbifold isolated conical singularities.
Special Lagrangian submanifolds in K3-fibered Calabi-Yau 3-folds

Abstract:We construct special Lagrangian submanifolds in collapsing Calabi-Yau 3-folds fibered by K3 surfaces. As these 3-folds collapse, the special Lagrangians shrink to 1-dimensional graphs in the base, mirroring the conjectured tropicalization of holomorphic curves in collapsing SYZ torus-fibered Calabi-Yau manifolds. This confirms predictions of Donaldson and Donaldson-Scaduto in the Calabi-Yau setting. Additionally, we discuss our results in the contexts of the Thomas-Yau conjecture, the Donaldson-Scaduto conjecture, and mirror symmetry.

Abstract:We define relative Gromov-Witten invariants and establish a general gluing theory of pseudo-holomorphic curves for symplectic cutting and contact surgery. Then, we use our general gluing theory to study the change of GW-invariants of Calabi-Yau 3-folds tranform under flops and extremal transitions. We prove a complete formula for the change of GW-invariants of any genus transform under flop and a general type I extremal transition. Other extremal transition will be handled in a subsequent paper.

Abstract:For an oriented manifold $M$ and a compact subanalytic Legendrian $\Lambda \subseteq S^*M$, we construct a canonical strong smooth relative Calabi--Yau structure on the microlocalization at infinity and its left adjoint $m_\Lambda^l: \operatorname{\mu sh}_\Lambda(\Lambda) \rightleftharpoons \operatorname{Sh}_\Lambda(M)_0 : m_\Lambda$ between compactly supported sheaves on $M$ with singular support on $\Lambda$ and microsheaves on $\Lambda$. We also construct a canonical strong Calabi-Yau structure on microsheaves $\operatorname{\mu sh}_\Lambda(\Lambda)$. Our approach does not require local properness and hence does not depend on arborealization. We thus obtain a canonical smooth relative Calabi-Yau structure on the Orlov functor for wrapped Fukaya categories of cotangent bundles with Weinstein stops, such that the wrap-once functor is the inverse dualizing bimodule.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to describe certain nonlinear topological obstructions for the existence of first order smoothings of mildly singular Calabi-Yau varieties of dimension at least $4$. For nodal Calabi-Yau threefolds, a necessary and sufficient linear topological condition for the existence of a first order smoothing was given by the first author in 1986. Subsequently, Rollenske-Thomas generalized this picture to nodal Calabi-Yau varieties of odd dimension, by finding a necessary nonlinear topological condition for the existence of a first order smoothing. In a complementary direction, in our recent work, the linear necessary and sufficient conditions for nodal Calabi-Yau threefolds were extended to Calabi-Yau varieties in every dimension with $1$-liminal singularities (which are exactly the ordinary double points in dimension $3$ but not in higher dimensions). In this paper, we give a common formulation of all of these previous results by establishing analogues of the nonlinear topological conditions of Rollenske-Thomas for Calabi-Yau varieties with weighted homogeneous $k$-liminal hypersurface singularities, a broad class of singularities that includes ordinary double points in odd dimensions.

Abstract:We survey recent construction of non-Kähler Calabi-Yau manifolds by smoothing SNC varieties obtained by non-trivial isomorphisms of strict Calabi-Yau manifolds. We also give a new example by smoothing an SNC 3-fold which are constructed from automorphisms of an abelian surface.

Abstract: Recently Knutsen found criteria for the curves in a complete linear system $|\mathcal{L}|$ on a smooth surface $X$ in a nodal K-trivial threefold $Y_0$ to deform to a scheme of finitely many smooth isolated curves in a general deformation $Y_t$ of $Y_0$. In this article we develop new methods to check whether the set of nodes of $Y_0$ imposes independent conditions on $|\mathcal{L}|$. As an application, we find new smooth isolated curves in complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds.

Abstract:In this paper, we continue the study of boundedness questions for (simply connected) smooth Calabi-Yau threefolds commenced in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1706.01268" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1706.01268">arXiv:1706.01268</a>. The diffeomorphism class of such a threefold is known to be determined up to finitely many possibilities by the integral middle cohomology and two integral forms on the integral second cohomology, namely the cubic cup-product form and the linear form given by cup-product with the second chern class. The question addressed in both papers is whether knowledge of these cubic and linear forms determines the threefold up to finitely many families, that is the moduli of such threefolds is bounded. If this is true, then in particular the middle integral cohomology would be bounded by knowing these two forms. Crucial to this question is the study of rigid non-movable surfaces on the threefold, which are the irreducible surfaces that deform with any small deformation of the complex structure of the threefold but for which no multiple moves on the threefold. We showed in the previous paper that if there are no such surfaces, then the answer to the above question is yes. Moreover if the Picard number is 2, the answer was shown to be yes without any further assumptions on the Calabi-Yau threefold. The main results of this paper are for Picard number 3, where we prove boundedness in the case where there is at most one rigid non-movable surface, assuming the cubic form is smooth (thereby defining a real elliptic curve); in the two cases where the Hessian curve is singular, we also assume that the line defined by the second chern class does not intersect this curve at an inflexion point. In addition to the methods described in the previous paper, a further crucial tool in the proofs will be the classical Steinian involution on the Hessian of an elliptic curve.

Abstract:We prove that a generic complete intersection Calabi–Yau threefold defined by sections of ample line bundles on a product of projective spaces admits a conifold transition to a connected sum of S3 × S3. In this manner, we obtain complex structures with trivial canonical bundles on some connected sums of S3 × S3. This construction is an analogue of that made by Friedman, Lu and Tian who used quintics in ℙ4.

Abstract:Let $X$ be either a general hypersurface of degree $n+1$ in $\mathbb P^n$ or a general $(2,n)$ complete intersection in $\mathbb P^{n+1}, n\geq 4$. We construct balanced rational curves on $X$ of all high enough degrees. If $n=3$ or $g=1$, we construct rigid curves of genus $g$ on $X$ of all high enough degrees. As an application we construct some rigid bundles on Calabi-Yau threefolds. In addition, we construct some low-degree balanced rational curves on hypersurfaces of degree $n + 2$ in $\mathbb P^n$.

Abstract:We develop the deformation theory of Calabi-Yau threefolds, by which we mean 3-dimensional complex manifolds with a nowhere-vanishing holomorphic 3-form, on manifolds with boundary. The boundary data is a closed, real 3-form on the 5-dimensional boundary. In the case of strongly pseudoconvex boundary, we obtain an analogue of Hitchin's local Torelli Theorem for compact manifolds, modulo a finite dimensional obstruction space, which we show is zero in many cases of interest.

Abstract:We enumerate topologically-inequivalent compact Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces. By computing arithmetic and algebraic invariants and the Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of curves, we prove that the number of distinct simply connected Calabi-Yau threefold hypersurfaces resulting from triangulations of four-dimensional reflexive polytopes is 4, 27, 183, 1,184 and 8,036 at $h^{1,1}$ = 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively. We also establish that there are ten equivalence classes of Wall data of non-simply connected Calabi-Yau threefolds from the Kreuzer-Skarke list. Finally, we give a provisional count of threefolds obtained by enumerating non-toric flops at $h^{1,1} =2$.

Abstract:The Castelnuovo bound conjecture, which is proposed by physicists, predicts an effective vanishing result for Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of Calabi-Yau 3-folds of Picard number one. Previously, it is only known for a few cases and all the proofs rely on the Bogomolov-Gieseker conjecture of Bayer-Macrì-Toda. In this paper, we prove the Castelnuovo bound conjecture for any Calabi-Yau 3-folds of Picard number one, up to a linear term and finitely many degree, without assuming the conjecture of Bayer-Macrì-Toda. Furthermore, we prove an effective vanishing theorem for surface-counting invariants of Calabi-Yau 4-folds of Picard number one. We also apply our techniques to study low-degree curves on some explicit Calabi-Yau 3-folds. Our approach is based on a general iterative method to obtain upper bounds for the genus of one-dimensional closed subschemes in a fixed 3-fold, which is a combination of classical techniques and the wall-crossing of weak stability conditions on derived categories, and works for any projective 3-fold with at worst isolated singularities over any algebraically closed field.

Graded decorated marked surfaces: Calabi-Yau-$\mathbb{X}$ categories of gentle algebras

Abstract: Let $\mathbf{S}$ a graded marked surface. We construct a string model for Calabi-Yau-$\mathbb{X}$ category $\mathcal{D}_\mathbb{X}(\mathbf{S}_\Delta)$, via graded decorated marked surfaces $\mathbf{S}_\Delta$. We prove the isomorphism between the braid twist group of the surface and the spherical twist group of the category, and $q$-intersection formulas for $\mathcal{D}_\mathbb{X}(\mathbf{S}_\Delta)$. We also give a topological realization of the Lagrangian immersion $\mathcal{D}_\infty(\mathbf{S})\to\mathcal{D}_\mathbb{X}(\mathbf{S}_\Delta)$, where $\mathcal{D}_\infty(\mathbf{S})$ is the topological Fukaya category associated to $\mathbf{S}$. This generalizes previous work in the Calabi-Yau-3 case and also unifies the usual case (Calabi-Yau-$\infty$ case, i.e. for $\mathcal{D}_\infty(\mathbf{S})$).
Deformations of some local Calabi-Yau manifolds

Abstract:We study deformations of certain crepant resolutions of isolated rational Gorenstein singularities. After a general discussion of the deformation theory, we specialize to dimension three and consider examples which are good (log) resolutions as well as the case of small resolutions. We obtain some partial results on the classification of canonical threefold singularities that admit good crepant resolutions. Finally, we study a non-crepant example, the blowup of a small resolution whose exceptional set is a smooth curve.

Abstract:We give a differential-geometric construction and examples of Calabi-Yau threefolds, at least one of which is {\it{new}}. Ingredients in our construction are {\it admissible pairs}, which were dealt with by Kovalev in \cite{K03} and further studied by Kovalev and Lee in \cite{KL11}. An admissible pair $(\overline{X},D)$ consists of a three-dimensional compact Kähler manifold $\overline{X}$ and a smooth anticanonical $K3$ divisor $D$ on $\overline{X}$. If two admissible pairs $(\overline{X}_1,D_1)$ and $(\overline{X}_2,D_2)$ satisfy the {\it gluing condition}, we can glue $\overline{X}_1\setminus D_1$ and $\overline{X}_2\setminus D_2$ together to obtain a Calabi-Yau threefold $M$. In particular, if $(\overline{X}_1,D_1)$ and $(\overline{X}_2,D_2)$ are identical to an admissible pair $(\overline{X},D)$, then the gluing condition holds automatically, so that we can {\it always} construct a Calabi-Yau threefold from a {\it single} admissible pair $(\overline{X},D)$ by {\it doubling} it. Furthermore, we can compute all Betti and Hodge numbers of the resulting Calabi-Yau threefolds in the doubling construction.

Abstract:Let R d be the space of stable sheaves F which satisfy the Hilbert polynomial χ ( F ( m ) ) = d m + 1 and are supported on rational curves in the projective plane P 2 . Then R 1 (resp. R 2 ) is isomorphic to P 2 (resp. P 5 ). In addition, R 3 is well-known to be a P 6 -bundle over P 2 . In particular, R d is smooth for d ≤ 3 . However, for d ≥ 4 , in general, the space R d is no longer smooth because of the complexity of boundary curves. In this paper, we obtained an SL ( 3 , C ) -equivariant smooth resolution of R 4 for d = 4 , which is a P 5 -bundle over a blow-up of a Kronecker modules space.

Orientifold Calabi-Yau Threefolds: Divisor Exchanges and Multi-Reflections

Abstract:Using the Kreuzer-Skarke database of 4-dimensional reflexive polytopes, we systematically constructed a new database of orientifold Calabi-Yau threefolds with $h^{1,1}(X) \leq 12$. Our approach involved non-trivial $\mathbb{Z}_2$ involutions, incorporating both divisor exchanges and multi-divisor reflections acting on the Calabi-Yau threefolds. Each proper involution results in an orientifold Calabi-Yau threefolds and we constructed 320,386,067 such examples. We developed a novel algorithm that significantly reduces the complexity of determining all the fixed loci under the involutions, and clarifies the types of O-planes. Our results show that under proper involutions, the majority of cases end up with O3/O7-plane systems, and most of these further admit a naive Type IIB string vacua. Additionally, a new type of free action was determined. We also computed the smoothness and the splitting of Hodge numbers in the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-orbifold limit for these orientifold Calabi-Yau threefolds.
