Abstract:We study the effects of the wavevector-dependent losses on polariton condensates. We demonstrate that because of these losses, a single vortex becomes a center of a convergent flow, which allows describing it by an analogue Kerr black hole metric with a dynamically evolving origin. For a pair of vortices, we find an analogue of the 3rd Kepler's law and estimate the emission rate of the gravitational waves. We simulate an analogue of the inspiral phase of a black hole merger. Our work therefore suggests that polariton condensates with quantum vortices represent a setting with a fully self-consistent dynamical metric for broad analogue studies.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper attempts to simulate the process of black hole mergers by studying the wave - vector - dependent loss effects in polariton condensates. Specifically, the authors explored how these losses can make a single quantum vortex the center of a convergent flow and can thus be described by the metric of an analog Kerr black hole, which has the property of dynamic evolution. For a pair of vortices, they found a relationship analogous to Kepler's third law and estimated the emission rate of gravitational waves. In addition, they also simulated the inspiral stage in the analog black hole merger process. This work shows that polariton condensates containing quantum vortices provide a setting with a fully self - consistent dynamical metric, suitable for a wide range of analog studies. In short, the core issue of the paper is to use specific physical phenomena in polariton condensates to simulate and study the complex astrophysical process of black hole mergers. In this way, researchers can explore phenomena that are usually only observable in extreme cosmic environments under laboratory conditions.
