Abstract:We study Malliavin differentiability for the solutions of a stochastic differential equation with drift of super-linear growth. Assuming we have a monotone drift with polynomial growth, we prove Malliavin differentiability of any order. As a consequence of this result, under the Hörmander's hypothesis we prove that the density of the solution's law with respect to the Lebesgue measure is infinitely differentiable. To avoid non-integrability problems due to the unbounded drift, we follow an approach based on the concepts of Ray Absolute Continuity and Stochastic Gateâux Differentiability.

Abstract:In this short note, we establish Malliavin differentiability of McKean-Vlasov Stochastic Differential Equations (MV-SDEs) with drifts satisfying both a locally Lipschitz and a one-sided Lipschitz assumption, and where the diffusion coefficient is assumed to be uniformly Lipschitz in its variables. As a secondary contribution, we investigate how Malliavin differentiability transfers across the interacting particle system associated with the McKean-Vlasov equation to its limiting equation. This final result requires both spatial and measure differentiability of the coefficients and doubles as a standalone result of independent interest since the study of Malliavin derivatives of weakly interacting particle systems seems novel to the literature. The presentation is didactic and finishes with a discussion on mollification techniques for the Lions derivative.

Abstract:This paper presents a general study of one-dimensional differentiability for functionals on convex domains that are not necessarily open. The local approximation is carried out by affine functionals, rather than linear ones as in standard Gateaux differentiability. This affine notion of differentiability naturally arises in many applications and, here and there, it appeared in the literature. Our systematic analysis aims to give a general perspective on it.

Abstract:We give a new characterization for the convergence in distribution to a standard normal law of a sequence of multiple stochastic integrals of a fixed order with variance one, in terms of the Malliavin derivatives of the sequence. We extend our result to the multidimensional case and prove a weak convergence result for a sequence of square integrable random variables.

Abstract:We deal with Malliavin calculus on the $L^2$ space of the $W^*$-algebra generated by fermion fields (the Clifford algebra). First, we verify the product formula for multiple integrals in Itô-Clifford calculus, which is Itô calculus on the Clifford algebra. Using this product formula, we can define the derivation operator and the divergence operator. Anti-symmetric Malliavin calculus thus constructed has properties similar to those of usual Malliavin calculus. The derivation operator and the divergence operator satisfy the canonical anti-commutation relations, and the divergence operator serves as an extension of the Itô-Clifford stochastic integral, satisfying the Clark-Ocone formula. Subsequently, using this calculus, we consider the concentration inequality, the logarithmic Sobolev inequality, and the fourth-moment theorem. As for the logarithmic Sobolev inequality, only a weaker result is obtained. On the other hand, as for the concentration inequality, we obtain results that are almost similar to those of the usual case; moreover, the results concerning the fourth-moment theorem imply that, unlike in the case of the usual Brownian motion, convergence in distribution cannot be deduced from the convergence of the fourth moment.

Abstract:Let $(W,H,\mu)$ be the classical Wiener space on $\R^d$. Assume that $X=(X_t(x))$ is a diffusion process satisfying the stochastic differential equation with diffusion and drift coefficients $\sigma: \R^n\to \R^n\otimes \R^d$, $b: \R^n\to \R^n$, $B$ is an $\R^d$-valued Brownian motion. We suppose that $b$ and $\sigma$ are Lipschitz. Let $P(x)$ be the orthogonal projection from $\R^d$ to its closed subspace $\sigma(x)^\star(\R^n)$, assuming that $x\to P(x)$ is continuously differentiable, we construct a covariant derivative $\hat{\nabla}$ on the paths of the diffusion process, along the elements of the Cameron-Martin space and prove that this derivative is closable on $L^p(\nu)$, where $\nu$ represents the law of the above diffusion process, i.e., $\nu=X(x)(\mu)$, the image of the Wiener measure under the function $w\to X_\cdot(w,x)$. We study the adjoint of this operator and we prove several results: representation theorem for $L^2(\nu)$-functionals, the logarithmic Sobolev inequality for $\nu$. As applications of these results the proof of the Logarithmic Sobolev inequality on the path space of Dyson's Brownian motion is given by using the covariant derivative. We then explain how to use this theory for deriving the functional inequalities for the measures defined by the semigroups of the diffusion process at the time $t=1$ and with fixed starting point. Finally we show that one can obtain also these inequalities for the conditional measures due to a conditional independence result which is a consequence of the degeneracy of the diffusion process.

Abstract:The origin of this book lies in an invitation to give a series of lectures on Malliavin calculus at the Probability Seminar of Venezuela, in April 1985. The contents of these lectures were published in Spanish in [176]. Later these notes were completed and improved in two courses on Malliavin cal culus given at the University of California at Irvine in 1986 and at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in 1989. The contents of these courses correspond to the material presented in Chapters 1 and 2 of this book. Chapter 3 deals with the anticipating stochastic calculus and it was de veloped from our collaboration with Moshe Zakai and Etienne Pardoux. The series of lectures given at the Eighth Chilean Winter School in Prob ability and Statistics, at Santiago de Chile, in July 1989, allowed us to write a pedagogical approach to the anticipating calculus which is the basis of Chapter 3. Chapter 4 deals with the nonlinear transformations of the Wiener measure and their applications to the study of the Markov property for solutions to stochastic differential equations with boundary conditions.

Abstract:The stochastic partial differential equation analyzed in this work, is motivated by a simplified mesoscopic physical model for phase separation. It describes pattern formation due to adsorption and desorption mechanisms involved in surface processes, in the presence of a stochastic driving force. This equation is a combination of Cahn–Hilliard and Allen–Cahn type operators with a multiplicative, white, space–time noise of unbounded diffusion. We apply Malliavin calculus, in order to investigate the existence of a density for the stochastic solution u. In dimension one, according to the regularity result in [5], u admits continuous paths a.s. Using this property, and inspired by a method proposed in [8], we construct a modified approximating sequence for u, which properly treats the new second order Allen–Cahn operator. Under a localization argument, we prove that the Malliavin derivative of u exists locally, and that the law of u is absolutely continuous, establishing thus that a density exists.

Abstract:We consider Malliavin calculus based on the Itô chaos decomposition of square integrable random variables on the Lévy space. We show that when a random variable satisfies a certain measurability condition, its differentiability and fractional differentiability can be determined by weighted Lebesgue spaces. The measurability condition is satisfied for all random variables if the underlying Lévy process is a compound Poisson process on a finite time interval.

Abstract:We study the one-dimensional stochastic heat equation with nonlinear Lipschitz coefficients and Dirichlet boundary conditions. We apply Malliavin calculus to this equation; we show that the solution $u \in L_{1,2}$ and provide a different proof for the existence of a density for $u$ that relies on a localization argument. This type of localization has been used before for other SPDE. However, our proof for the existence of a density for the solution to the stochastic heat equation follows a different strategy and is more involved due to new difficulties arising with the heat kernel. We also prove the existence of a density for the supremum of $u$ and that it belongs in $D_{1,2}$.

Lecture notes on Malliavin calculus in regularity structures

Abstract:Malliavin calculus provides a characterization of the centered model in regularity structures that is stable under removing the small-scale cut-off. In conjunction with a spectral gap inequality, it yields the stochastic estimates of the model. This becomes transparent on the level of a notion of model that parameterizes the solution manifold, and thus is indexed by multi-indices rather than trees, and which allows for a more geometric than combinatorial perspective. In these lecture notes, this is carried out for a PDE with heat operator, a cubic nonlinearity, and driven by additive noise, reminiscent of the stochastic quantization of the Euclidean $\phi^4$ model. More precisely, we informally motivate our notion of the model $(\Pi,\Gamma)$ as charts and transition maps, respectively, of the nonlinear solution manifold. These geometric objects are algebrized in terms of formal power series, and their algebra automorphisms. We will assimilate the directional Malliavin derivative to a tangent vector of the solution manifold. This means that it can be treated as a modelled distribution, thereby connecting stochastic model estimates to pathwise solution theory, with its analytic tools of reconstruction and integration. We unroll an inductive calculus that in an automated way applies to the full subcritical regime.

Abstract:Suppose $B$ is a Brownian motion and $B^n$ is an approximating sequence of rescaled random walks on the same probability space converging to $B$ pointwise in probability. We provide necessary and sufficient conditions for weak and strong $L^2$-convergence of a discretized Malliavin derivative, a discrete Skorokhod integral, and discrete analogues of the Clark-Ocone derivative to their continuous counterparts. Moreover, given a sequence $(X^n)$ of random variables which admit a chaos decomposition in terms of discrete multiple Wiener integrals with respect to $B^n$, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for strong $L^2$-convergence to a $\sigma(B)$-measurable random variable $X$ via convergence of the discrete chaos coefficients of $X^n$ to the continuous chaos coefficients of $X$. In the special case of binary noise, our results support the known formal analogies between Malliavin calculus on the Wiener space and Malliavin calculus on the Bernoulli space by rigorous $L^2$-convergence results.

Abstract:We show that there exists a family of mutually singular doubling measures on Laakso space with respect to which real-valued Lipschitz functions are almost everywhere differentiable. This implies that there exists a measure zero universal differentiability set in Laakso space. Additionally, we show that each of the measures constructed supports a Poincaré inequality.

Abstract:We show the everywhere differentiability of viscosity solutions to a class of Aronsson equations in Rn for n≥2, where the coefficient matrices A are assumed to be uniformly elliptic and C1,1. Our result extends an earlier important theorem by Evans and Smart [18] who have studied the case A=In which correspond to the ∞-Laplace equation. We also show that every point is a Lebesgue point for the gradient.In the process of proving the results we improve some of the gradient estimates obtained for the infinity harmonic functions. The lack of suitable gradient estimates has been a major obstacle for solving the C1,α problem in this setting, and we aim to take a step towards better understanding of this problem, too.A key tool in our approach is to study the problem in a suitable intrinsic geometry induced by the coefficient matrix A. Heuristically, this corresponds to considering the question on a Riemannian manifold whose the metric is given by the matrix A.
On the closability of differential operators

Abstract:We discuss the closability of directional derivative operators with respect to a general Radon measure $\mu$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$; our main theorem completely characterizes the vectorfields for which the corresponding operator is closable from the space of Lipschitz functions ${\mathrm{Lip}}(\mathbb{R^d})$ to $L^p(\mu)$, for $1\leq p\leq\infty$. We also consider certain classes of multilinear differential operators. We then discuss the closability of the same operators from $L^q(\mu)$ to $L^p(\mu)$; we give necessary conditions and sufficient conditions for closability, but we do not have an exact characterization. As a corollary we obtain that classical differential operators such as gradient, divergence and jacobian determinant are closable from $L^q(\mu)$ to $L^p(\mu)$ only if $\mu$ is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. Lastly, we rephrase our results on multilinear operators in terms of metric currents.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce and study a class of differential mixed variational inequalities in finite dimensional Euclidean spaces. Under various conditions, we obtain linear growth and bounded linear growth of the solution set for the mixed variational inequalities. Moreover, we present some conclusions which enrich the literature on the mixed variational inequalities and generalize the corresponding results of [4]. In particular we prove existence theorems for weak solutions of a differential mixed variational inequality in the weak sense of Carathéodory by using a result on differential inclusions involving an upper semicontinuous set-valued map with closed convex values. Also by employing the results from differential inclusions we establish a convergence result on Euler time-dependent procedure for solving initial-value differential mixed variational inequalities.

Abstract:We prove path-by-path uniqueness of solution to hyperbolic stochastic partial differential equations when the drift coefficient is the difference of two componentwise monotone Borel measurable functions of spatial linear growth. The Yamada-Watanabe principle for SDE driven by Brownian sheet then allows to derive strong uniqueness for such equation and thus extending the results in [Bogso, Dieye and Menoukeu Pamen, Elect. J. Probab., 27:1-26, 2022] and [Nualart and Tindel, Potential Anal., 7(3):661--680, 1997]. Assuming that the drift is globally bounded, we show that the unique strong solution is Malliavin differentiable. The case of spatial linear growth drift coefficient is also studied.

Abstract:We develop a theory of Malliavin calculus for Banach space valued random variables. Using radonifying operators instead of symmetric tensor products we extend the Wiener-Ito isometry to Banach spaces. In the white noise case we obtain two sided L^p-estimates for multiple stochastic integrals in arbitrary Banach spaces. It is shown that the Malliavin derivative is bounded on vector-valued Wiener-Ito chaoses. Our main tools are decoupling inequalities for vector-valued random variables. In the opposite direction we use Meyer's inequalities to give a new proof of a decoupling result for Gaussian chaoses in UMD Banach spaces.
