Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the characterization of balanced bounded convex domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$ in terms of the squeezing function. As an application, we provide a characterization of the polydisc in $\mathbb{C}^n$.

Abstract:We prove two separate lower bounds -- one for nondegenerate convex domains and the other for nondegenerate $\mathbb{C}$-convex (but not necessarily convex) domains -- for the squeezing function that hold true for all domains in $\mathbb{C}^n$, for a fixed $n\geq 2$, of the stated class. We provide explicit expressions in terms of $n$ for these estimates.

Abstract:Given a subspace $U\subset\mathbb{C}[x_1,\dots,x_n]_d$ we consider the closure of the image of the rational map $\mathbb{P}^{n-1}\dashrightarrow\mathbb{P}^{\dim U-1}$ given by $U$. Its coordinate ring is isomorphic to $\bigoplus_{i\ge 0} U^i$ where $U^i$ is the degree $i$ component. We consider the Hilbert function of this algebra in the case where $U$ contains a regular sequence, equivalently the map is a morphism, and find lower bounds for the dimension of the degree 2 component. We apply our bounds to study the boundary structure of certain convex sets, called Gram spectrahedra, which are linked to sum of squares representations of non-negative polynomials.

Abstract:We show that if a bounded domain $\Omega$ is exhausted by a bounded strictly pseudoconvex domain $D$ with $C^2$ boundary, then $\Omega$ is holomorphically equivalent to $D$ or the unit ball, and show that a bounded domain has to be holomorphically equivalent to the unit ball if its Fridman's invariant has certain growth condition near the boundary.

Abstract:A polyhedron in a Banach space is a family of points $\mathcal{X}$ such that for every $x\in \mathcal{X}$, there is a closed convex set $C$ such that $a\notin C$ and $\mathcal{X}\setminus\{x\}\subset C$. In this article, we consider the notion of C*-convexity and introduce the notion of a C*-polyhedron, which is a noncommutative version of the notion of polyhedrons. We investigate the largest size of a C*-polyhedron in some classical C*-algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide some characterizations of strong pseudoconvexity by the boundary behavior of intrinsic invariants for smoothly bounded pseudoconvex domains of finite type in $\mathbb{C}^2$. As a consequence, if such domain is biholomorphically equivalent to a quotient of the unit ball, then it is strongly pseudoconvex.

Abstract:In this work, we aim to characterize symmetric polyconvex functions in higher dimensions. Building on the characterization provided by Boussaid et al., for 2 d and 3 d cases, we extend their technique to higher dimensions to provide a characterization of symmetric polyconvex functions. Our main result shows that a function is symmetric polyconvex if and only if it can be expressed as a convex function of the matrix and its second-order minors, having a non-increasing behavior with respect to the variable of on second-order minors. The concept of S-positive semi-definite matrices is also introduced and analyzed and used as a main ingredient in the characterization. Moreover, This characterization allow us to identify the class of symmetric polyconvex quadratic forms, and show that there is no non trivial symmetric poly-affine functions.

On a Dowker-type problem for convex disks with almost constant curvature

Abstract:A classical result of Dowker (Bull. Amer. Math. Soc. 50: 120-122, 1944) states that for any plane convex body $K$, the areas of the maximum (resp. minimum) area convex $n$-gons inscribed (resp. circumscribed) in $K$ is a concave (resp. convex) sequence. It is known that this theorem remains true if we replace area by perimeter, or convex $n$-gons by disk-$n$-gons, obtained as the intersection of $n$ closed Euclidean unit disks. It has been proved recently that if $C$ is the unit disk of a normed plane, then the same properties hold for the area of $C$-$n$-gons circumscribed about a $C$-convex disk $K$ and for the perimeters of $C$-$n$-gons inscribed or circumscribed about a $C$-convex disk $K$, but for a typical origin-symmetric convex disk $C$ with respect to Hausdorff distance, there is a $C$-convex disk $K$ such that the sequence of the areas of the maximum area $C$-$n$-gons inscribed in $K$ is not concave. The aim of this paper is to investigate this question if we replace the topology induced by Hausdorff distance with a topology induced by the surface area measure of the boundary of $C$.

A study of spirallike domains: polynomial convexity, Loewner chains and dense holomorphic curves

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the closure of a bounded pseudoconvex domain, which is spirallike with respect to a globally asymptotic stable holomorphic vector field, is polynomially convex. We also provide a necessary and sufficient condition, in terms of polynomial convexity, on a univalent function defined on a strongly convex domain for embedding it into a filtering Loewner chain. Next, we provide an application of our first result. We show that for any bounded pseudoconvex strictly spirallike domain $\Omega$ in $\mathbb{C}^n$ and given any connected complex manifold $Y$, there exists a holomorphic map from the unit disc to the space of all holomorphic maps from $\Omega$ to $Y$. This also yields us the existence of $\mathcal{O}(\Omega, Y)$-universal map for any generalized translation on $\Omega$, which, in turn, is connected to the hypercyclicity of certain composition operators on the space of manifold valued holomorphic maps.

Abstract:This study focuses on Concave mappings, a class of univalent functions that exhibit a unique property: they map the unit disk onto a domain whose complement is convex. The main objective of this work is to characterize these mappings in terms of the real part of the expression $1 +zf''(z)/f'(z)$, considering scenarios where the omitted convex domain is either bounded or unbounded. In the case of a bounded convex domain, we investigate the pivotal role played by the Schwarzian derivative and the order of the functions in understanding the behavior and properties of these mappings.

Abstract:In this paper, we first prove that the totally real discs lying in certain Levi flat hypersurfaces are polynomially convex. As applications we prove that the totally real discs lying in the boundary of certain polynomial polyhedra are polynomially convex. We also provide an if and only if condition for polynomial convexity of totally real discs lying in the boundary of Hartog's triangle. We also provide sufficient conditions on general compact subsets lying on those hypersurfaces for polynomial convexity.

Abstract:We give a complete characterization, as "stadium-like domains", of convex subsets $\Omega$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$ where a solution exists to Serrin-type overdetermined boundary value problems in which the operator is either the infinity Laplacian or its normalized version. In case of the not-normalized operator, our results extend those obtained in a previous work, where the problem was solved under some geometrical restrictions on $\Omega$. In case of the normalized operator, we also show that stadium-like domains are precisely the unique convex sets in $\mathbb{R}^n$ where the solution to a Dirichlet problem is of class $C^{1,1} (\Omega)$.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that every strictly convex 3-ball with nonnegative Ricci-curvature contains at least 3 embedded free-boundary minimal 2-disks for any generic metric, and at least 2 solutions even without genericity assumption. Our approach combines ideas from mean curvature flow, min-max theory and degree theory. We also establish the existence of smooth free-boundary mean-convex foliations. In stark contrast to our prior work in the closed setting, the present result is sharp for generic metrics.

Abstract:We prove that every closed characteristic of minimal action on the boundary of a uniformly convex domain in $\R^4$ bounds a disk-like global surface of section. A corollary is that the cylindrical symplectic capacity of a convex body in $\R^4$ coincides with the minimal action of a closed generalized characteristic on its boundary.

Abstract:Let cc(Rn) denote the hyperspace of all nonempty compact convex subsets of the Euclidean space Rn endowed with the Hausdorff metric, and let cc(Bn)={A∈cc(Rn)|A⊂Bn} , where Bn is the closed unit ball of Rn . Let cb(Rn) be the subset of cc(Rn) consisting of all convex bodies, i.e., of sets A∈cc(Rn) with non-empty interior. In this survey article we reveal fundamental properties of the natural action Aff(n)↷cb(Rn) of the affine group that leads to structure results for cb(Rn) and for several important subsets of it. Orbit spaces of cb(Rn) and its subsets by some appropriate subgroups G are homeomorphic to such important objects like the Hilbert cube or the Banach-Mazur compacta. Among other hyperspaces studied here are cw(Rn) - the hyperspace of convex bodies of constant width, Bp - the hyperspace of convex bodies with smooth boundary of positive Gaussian curvature, L(n) - the hyperspace of convex bodies for which the Euclidean unit ball is the Löwner ellipsoid, cˇ(n) - the hyperspace of convex sets for which the Euclidean unit ball is the Chebyshev ball, etc. The paper contains also several new results concerning equivariant extension properties of the hyperspaces in question, as well as the homeomorphism type of the hyperspace cb(Bn)=cb(Rn)∩cc(Bn) and its orbit spaces. Equivariant extension properties of these hyperspaces are applied to provide a very short proof of the classical Grünbaum Conjecture from Convex Geometry. Along the paper seventeen open problems are raised.

Abstract:It was shown in [11] that for every origin-symmetric star body $K \subseteq \mathbb R^n$ of volume $1$, every even continuous probability density $f$ on $K$ and $1 \leq k \leq n-1$, there exists a subspace $F \subseteq \mathbb R^n$ of codimension $k$ such that \[ \int_{K \cap F} f \geq c^k (d_{\rm ovr}(K, \mathcal{BP}_k^n))^{-k} \] where $d_{\rm ovr}(K, \mathcal{BP}_k^n)$ is the outer volume ratio distance from $K$ to the class of generalized $k$-intersection bodies, and $c>0$ is a universal constant. The upper bound $d_{\rm ovr}(K, \mathcal{BP}_k^n) \leq c' \sqrt{n/k} \left(\log\left(\frac{en}k\right)\right)^{3/2}$ was established in [13] for every origin-symmetric convex body $K$. In this note we show that there exist an origin-symmetric convex body $K$ of volume $1$ and an even continuous probability density $f$ supported on $K$ such that for every subspace $F$ of codimension $k$, \[ \int_{K \cap F} f \leq \left( c \sqrt{\frac n{k \log(n)} } \right)^{-k}. \] As a consequence we obtain a lower bound for $d_{\rm ovr}(K, \mathcal{BP}_k^n)$ with $K$ a convex body, complementing the upper bound in \cite{koldobsky2011isomorphic}. This is \[c \sqrt{n/k} (\log(n))^{-1/2} \leq \sup_K d_{\rm ovr}(K, \mathcal{BP}_k^n) \leq c' \sqrt{n/k} \left(\log\left(\frac{en}k\right)\right)^{3/2}.\] The case $k=1$ was obtained previously in [5,6].

Abstract:We prove that a bounded domain in $\mathbb{C}^n$ admitting a complete Kähler metric with negatively pinched holomorphic bisectional curvature near the boundary, admits a complete Kähler metric with negatively pinched holomorphic bisectional curvature everywhere. As a consequence we prove that strictly pseudoconvex bounded domains with $C^2$ boundary and bounded domains with squeezing function tending to 1 at every point of the boundary, admit a complete Kähler metric with negatively pinched holomorphic bisectional curvature everywhere.
