Abstract:In this note, we show that the $L\log L$ hypothesis is the strongest size condition on a homogeneous rough function on the sphere which ensures the weak type $(1,1)$ boundedness of the corresponding singular integral $T_\Omega$, provided $T_\Omega$ is bounded in $L^2$.

Abstract:We prove sparse bounds for maximal oscillatory rough singular integral operator $$T^{P}_{\Omega,*}f(x):=\sup_{\epsilon>0} \left|\int_{|x-y|>\epsilon}e^{\iota P(x,y)}\frac{\Omega\big((x-y)/|x-y|\big)}{|x-y|^{n}}f(y)dy\right|,$$ where $P(x,y)$ is a real-valued polynomial on $\mathbb{R}^{n}\times \mathbb{R}^{n}$ and $\Omega\in L^{\infty}(\mathbb{S}^{n-1})$ is a homogeneous function of degree zero with $\int_{\mathbb{S}^{n-1}}\Omega(\theta)~d\theta=0$. This allows us to conclude weighted $L^p-$estimates for the operator $T^{P}_{\Omega,*}$. Moreover, the norm $\|T^P_{\Omega,*}\|_{L^p\rightarrow L^p}$ depends only on the total degree of the polynomial $P(x,y)$, but not on the coefficients of $P(x,y)$. Finally, we will show that these techniques also apply to obtain sparse bounds for oscillatory rough singular integral operator $T^{P}_{\Omega}$ for $\Omega\in L^{q}(\mathbb{S}^{n-1})$, $1<q\leq\infty$.

Abstract:We prove the following sharp Sobolev inequality on the circle $$\int_{\mathbb{S}^1} [4(v')^2 - v^2] \mathrm{d} \theta \geq - \frac{4\pi^2}{\int_{\mathbb{S}^1} v^{-2} \mathrm{d} \theta},$$ with the equality being achieved when $v^{-2} (\theta) = \frac{k\sqrt{1-\alpha^2}}{1+ \alpha \cos(\theta - \theta_o)}$where$k>0$, $\alpha \in (-1,1)$, $\theta_0 \in \mathbb{R}$. If $v$ vanishes somewhere on the circle, then $$4 \int_{\mathbb{S}^1} (v')^2 \mathrm{d} \theta \geq\int_{\mathbb{S}^1} v^2 \mathrm{d} \theta.$$ The basic tools to prove the inequality are the rearrangement inequality on the circle and the variational method. We investigate the variational problem of the functional $\mathcal{F}[v] = \int_{\mathbb{S}^1} [4(v')^2 - v^2] \mathrm{d} \theta$ under the constraint $\int_{\mathbb{S}^1} v^{-2} \mathrm{d} \theta = 2\pi$. An important geometric insight of the functional $\mathcal{F}$ is that it is invariant under the Lorentz group, since $\mathcal{F}[v]$ is the integral of the product of two null expansions of a spacelike curve parameterised by the function $v^{-2}$ in a lightcone in $3$-dim Minkowski spacetime. The global minimiser of $\mathcal{F}$ under the constraint is simply given by the spacelike plane section of the lightcone. We introduce a method which combines the symmetric decreasing rearrangement and the Lorentz transformation. This method isnot confined to the scope of this paper, but is applicable to other Lorentz invariant variational problems on $\mathbb{S}^{n}, n \geq 1$. As an example, we sketch a proof of the sharp Sobolev inequality on $\mathbb{S}^n, n\geq 3$ by this method.

Abstract:We obtain a sharp L^2× L^2 → L^1 boundedness criterion for a class of bilinear operators associated with a multiplier given by a signed sum of dyadic dilations of a given function, in terms of the L^q integrability of this function; precisely we show that boundedness holds if and only if q<4 . We discuss applications of this result concerning bilinear rough singular integrals and bilinear dyadic spherical maximal functions. Our second result is an optimal L^2× L^2→ L^1 boundedness criterion for bilinear operators associated with multipliers with L^∞ derivatives. This result provides the main tool in the proof of the first theorem and is also manifested in terms of the L^q integrability of the multiplier. The optimal range is q<4 which, in the absence of Plancherel’s identity on L^1 , should be compared to q=∞ in the classical L^2→ L^2 boundedness for linear multiplier operators.

Abstract:Following the seminal paper by Bourgain, Brezis and Mironescu, we focus on the asymptotic behavior of some nonlocal functionals that, for each $u\in L^2(\mathbb{R}^N)$, are defined as the double integrals of weighted, squared difference quotients of $u$. Given a family of weights $\{\rho_\epsilon\}$, $\epsilon\in (0,1)$, we devise sufficient and necessary conditions on $\{\rho_\epsilon\}$ for the associated nonlocal functionals to converge as $\epsilon\to 0$ to a variant of the Dirichlet integral. Finally, some comparison between our result and the existing literature is provided.

Abstract:Given p , N > 1 , we prove the sharp L p -log-Sobolev inequality on noncompact metric measure spaces satisfying the CD ( 0 , N ) condition, where the optimal constant involves the asymptotic volume ratio of the space. This proof is based on a sharp isoperimetric inequality in CD ( 0 , N ) spaces, symmetrization, and a careful scaling argument. As an application we establish a sharp hypercontractivity estimate for the Hopf–Lax semigroup in CD ( 0 , N ) spaces. The proof of this result uses Hamilton–Jacobi inequality and Sobolev regularity properties of the Hopf–Lax semigroup, which turn out to be essential in the present setting of nonsmooth and noncompact spaces. Moreover, a sharp Gaussian-type L 2 -log-Sobolev inequality and a hypercontractivity estimate are obtained in RCD ( 0 , N ) spaces. Our results are new, even in the smooth setting of Riemannian/Finsler manifolds. In particular, an extension of the celebrated rigidity result of Ni (2004) [55] on Riemannian manifolds will be a simple consequence of our sharp log-Sobolev inequality.

Abstract:By using optimal transport theory, we prove a sharp dimension-free isoperimetric inequality involving the volume entropy, in metric measure spaces with non-negative Ricci curvature in the sense of Lott--Sturm--Villani. We show that this isoperimetric inequality is attained by a non-trivial open set, if and only if the space satisfies a certain foliation property. For metric measure spaces with non-negative Riemannian Ricci curvature, we show that the sharp Cheeger constant is achieved by a non-trivial measurable set, if and only if a one-dimensional space is split off. Our isoperimetric inequality and the rigidity theorems are proved in non-smooth framework, but new even in the smooth setting. In particular, our results provide some new understanding of logarithmically concave measures.

Abstract:The paper is devoted to provide Michael-Simon-type $L^p$-logarithmic-Sobolev inequalities on complete, not necessarily compact $n$-dimensional submanifolds $\Sigma$ of the Euclidean space $\mathbb R^{n+m}$. Our first result, stated for $p=2$, is sharp, it is valid on general submanifolds, and it involves the mean curvature of $\Sigma$. It implies in particular the main result of S. Brendle [Comm. Pure Appl. Math.}, 2022]. In addition, it turns out that equality can only occur if and only if $\Sigma$ is isometric to the Euclidean space $\mathbb R^{n}$ and the extremizer is a Gaussian. The second result is a general $L^p$-logarithmic-Sobolev inequality for $p\geq 2$ on Euclidean submanifolds with constants that are codimension-free in case of minimal submanifolds. In order to prove the above results - especially, to deal with the equality cases - we elaborate the theory of optimal mass transport on submanifolds between measures that are not necessarily compactly supported. Applications are provided to sharp hypercontractivity estimates of Hopf-Lax semigroups on submanifolds. The first hypercontractivity estimate is for general submanifolds with bounded mean curvature vector, the second one is for self-similar shrinkers endowed with the natural Gaussian measure. The equality cases are characterized here as well.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a sharp defective log-Sobolev inequality on H-type groups. Then we use such an inequality to show exponential integrability of Lipschitz functions with respect to the heat kernel measure. A defective log-Sobolev-type inequality for the Gaussian-like measure with respect to the sub-Riemannian distance is also proved on arbitrary H-type groups.

As a consequence of this equivalence, we prove that if Φ satisfies the above conditions and B is a homothecy invariant basis differentiating integrals of all measurable functions f on R n such that ∫ R n Φ ⁢ ( | f | ) < ∞ , then the associated maximal operator M B satisfies both of the above weak type estimates.

Abstract:By using optimal mass transport theory, we provide a direct proof to the sharp $L^p$-log-Sobolev inequality $(p\geq 1)$ involving a log-concave homogeneous weight on an open convex cone $E\subseteq \mathbb R^n$. The perk of this proof is that it allows to characterize the extremal functions realizing the equality cases in the $L^p$-log-Sobolev inequality. The characterization of the equality cases is new for $p\geq n$ even in the unweighted setting and $E=\mathbb R^n$. As an application, we provide a sharp weighted hypercontractivity estimate for the Hopf-Lax semigroup related to the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, characterizing also the equality cases.

Abstract:We investigate Bergman type operators on the complex unit ball, which are singular integral operators induced by the modified Bergman kernel. We consider the L-p-L-q boundedness and compactness of Bergman type operators. The results of boundedness can be viewed as the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev (HLS) type theorem in the case unit ball. We also give some sharp norm estimates of Bergman type operators which in fact gives the upper bounds of the optimal constants in the HLS type inequality on the unit ball. Moreover, a trace formula is given.

Abstract:Let $L$ be the distinguished Laplacian on the Iwasawa $AN$ group associated with a semisimple Lie group $G$. Assume $F$ is a Borel function on $\mathbb{R}^+$. We give a condition on $F$ such that the kernels of the functions $F(L)$ are uniformly bounded. This condition involves the decay of $F$ only and not its derivatives. By a known correspondence, this implies pointwise estimates for a wide range of functions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on symmetric spaces. In particular, when $G$ is of real rank one and $F(x)={\rm e}^{it\sqrt x}\psi(\sqrt x)$, our bounds are sharp.

Abstract:We investigate new pointwise bounds for a class of rough integral operators, $T_{\Omega,\alpha}$, for a parameter $0<\alpha <n$ that includes classical rough singular integrals of Calderón and Zygmund, rough hypersingular integrals, and rough fractional integral operators. We prove that the rough integral operators are bounded by a sparse potential operator that depends on the size of the symbol $\Omega$. As a result of our pointwise inequalities, we obtain several new Sobolev mappings of the form $T_{\Omega,\alpha}:\dot W^{1,p}\rightarrow L^q$
