Abstract:In this paper we address the question of whether high-temperature superconductors have anything in common with BCS-BEC crossover theory. Towards this goal, we present a proposal and related predictions which provide a concrete test for the applicability of this theoretical framework. These predictions characterize the behavior of the Ginzburg-Landau coherence length, $\xi_0^{\text{coh}}$, near the transition temperature $T_{\text{c}}$, and across the entire superconducting $T_{\text{c}}$ dome in the phase diagram. That we are lacking a systematic characterization of $\xi_0^{\text{coh}}$ in the entire class of cuprate superconductors is perhaps surprising, as it is one of the most fundamental properties of any superconductor. This paper is written to motivate further experiments and, thus, address this shortcoming. Here we show how measurements of $\xi_0^{\text{coh}}$ contain direct indications for whether or not the cuprates are associated with BCS-BEC crossover and, if so, where within the crossover spectrum a particular superconductor lies.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is whether high - temperature superconductors are related to the BCS - BEC crossover theory. Specifically, the authors proposed a specific test scheme and its related predictions, which describe the behavior of the Ginzburg - Landau coherence length \(\xi_{\text{coh}}^0\) near the transition temperature \(T_c\) and throughout the superconducting \(T_c\) domain. Through these predictions, they hope to provide a method to evaluate the applicability of the BCS - BEC crossover theory to copper - based superconductors. ### Key points: 1. **Research background**: - The research on high - temperature superconductors is a well - established field, but there is still no consensus on its mechanism. - The BCS - BEC crossover theory is a theory that may explain the phenomenon of high - temperature superconductivity, but its applicability to copper - based superconductors is still controversial. 2. **Research objectives**: - Propose a specific test scheme to evaluate the applicability of the BCS - BEC crossover theory to copper - based superconductors by measuring the Ginzburg - Landau coherence length \(\xi_{\text{coh}}^0\). - Study the behavior of \(\xi_{\text{coh}}^0\) at different hole - doping levels to determine whether copper - based superconductors belong to the BCS - BEC crossover range and their positions within this range. 3. **Research methods**: - By comparing theoretical calculations with experimental data, a method for systematically measuring \(\xi_{\text{coh}}^0\) was proposed. - Using the Ginzburg - Landau theoretical framework, the relationship between \(\xi_{\text{coh}}^0\) and the hole - doping level was derived and compared with existing experimental data. 4. **Expected results**: - If copper - based superconductors are indeed related to the BCS - BEC crossover theory, then the behavior of \(\xi_{\text{coh}}^0\) should be in line with the predictions of this theory. - Through systematic experimental measurements, these predictions can be verified, thus providing direct evidence for the applicability of the BCS - BEC crossover theory to copper - based superconductors. ### Formula examples: - The relationship between the Ginzburg - Landau coherence length \(\xi_{\text{coh}}^0\) and the upper critical magnetic field \(H_{c2}\): \[ \left.\frac{dH_{c2}}{dT}\right|_{T = T_c}=-\frac{\Phi_0}{2\pi T_c (\xi_{\text{coh}}^0)^2} \] where \(\Phi_0=\frac{hc}{2e}\) is the magnetic flux quantum. - In the 3D case, the expression for the critical temperature \(T_c\): \[ T_c=\left(\frac{2\pi}{C}\right)\left(\frac{\hbar^2}{k_B n_{\text{pair}}^{2/3}(T_c)M_{\text{pair}}(T_c)}\right) \] where \(C = [\zeta(3/2)]^{2/3}\), \(\zeta(s)\) is the Riemann zeta function, and \(n_{\text{pair}}\) and \(M_{\text{pair}}\) are the number density and mass of pre - formed Cooper pairs, respectively. - In the 2D case, the expression for the Ginzburg - Landau coherence length \(\xi_{\text{coh}}^0\): \[ k_F\xi_{\text{coh}}^0 = 1.6\left(\frac{n}{n_{\text{pair}}}\right)^{1/2} \] Through these formulas and theoretical analyses, the authors hope to be able to provide guidance for future experiments, thereby further verifying the applicability of the BCS - BEC crossover theory to copper - based superconductors.
