Abstract:Vianna constructed infinitely many exotic Lagrangian tori in the complex projective plane. We lift these tori to higher-dimensional projective spaces and show that they remain non-symplectomorphic. Our proof is elementary except for an application of the wall-crossing formula by Pascaleff-Tonkonog.

Abstract:We study exotic Lagrangian tori in dimension four. In certain Stein domains $B_{dpq}$ (which naturally appear in almost toric fibrations) we find $d+1$ families of monotone Lagrangian tori which are mutually distinct, up to symplectomorphisms. We prove that these remain distinct under embeddings of $B_{dpq}$ into geometrically bounded symplectic four-manifolds. We show that there are infinitely many different such embeddings when $X$ is compact and (almost) toric and hence conclude that $X$ contains arbitrarily many Lagrangian tori which are distinct up to symplectomorphisms of $X$. In dimension four arbitrarily many different Lagrangian tori were previously known only in del Pezzo surfaces. Neither the embedded tori, nor the ambient space $X$ needs to be monotone for our methods to work.

Abstract:Motivated by recent developments in the construction of Newton--Okounkov bodies and toric degenerations via cluster algebras in [GHKK18, FO20], we consider a family of Newton--Okounkov polytopes of a complex smooth projective variety $X$ related by a composition of tropicalized cluster mutations. According to the work of [HK15], the toric degeneration associated with each Newton--Okounkov polytope $\Delta$ in the family produces a Lagrangian torus fibration of $X$ over $\Delta$. We investigate circumstances in which each Lagrangian torus fibration possesses a monotone Lagrangian torus fiber. We provide a sufficient condition, based on the data of tropical integer points and exchange matrices, for the family of constructed monotone Lagrangian tori to contain infinitely many monotone Lagrangian tori, no two of which are related by any symplectomorphisms. By employing this criterion and exploiting the correspondence between the tropical integer points and the dual canonical basis elements, we generate infinitely many distinct monotone Lagrangian tori on flag manifolds of arbitrary type except in a few cases.

Abstract: We describe the proof that the period map from the Torelli space of Calabi-Yau manifolds to the classifying space of polarized Hodge structures is an embedding. The proof is based on the constructions of holomorphic affine structure on the Teichm\"uller space and Hodge metric completion of the Torelli space. A canonical global holomorphic section of the holomorphic $(n, 0)$ class on the Teichm\"uller space is constructed.

Abstract:For a broad class of symplectic manifolds of dimension at least six, we find the following new phenomenon: there exist local exotic Lagrangian tori. More specifically, let $X$ be a geometrically bounded symplectic manifold of dimension at least six. We show that every open subset of $X$ contains infinitely many Lagrangian tori which are distinct up to symplectomorphisms of $X$ while being Lagrangian isotopic and having the same classical invariants. The proof relies on a locality property of the displacement energy germ, which allows us to compute it in a Darboux chart. Since these tori are not monotone, bubbling may occur and the count of Maslov index two $J$-holomorphic disks does not yield an invariant.

Abstract:We use exact Lagrangian fillings and Weinstein handlebody diagrams to construct infinitely many distinct exact Lagrangian tori in $4$-dimensional Milnor fibers of isolated hypersurface singularities with positive modality. We also provide a generalization of a criterion for when the symplectic homology of a Weinstein $4$-manifold is non-vanishing given an explicit Weinstein handlebody diagrams.

Abstract:Under certain topological assumptions, we show that two monotone Lagrangian submanifolds embedded in the standard symplectic vector space with the same monotonicity constant cannot link one another and that, individually, their smooth knot type is determined entirely by the homotopy theoretic data which classifies the underlying Lagrangian immersion. The topological assumptions are satisfied by a large class of manifolds which are realised as monotone Lagrangians, including tori. After some additional homotopy theoretic calculations, we deduce that all monotone Lagrangian tori in the symplectic vector space of odd complex dimension at least five are smoothly isotopic.

Abstract:The SYZ conjecture suggests a folklore that “Lagrangian multi-sections are mirror to holomorphic vector bundles”. In this paper, we prove this folklore for Lagrangian multi-sections inside the cotangent bundle of a vector space, which are equivariantly mirror to complete toric varieties by the work of Fang-Liu-Treumann-Zaslow. We also introduce the Lagrangian realization problem, which asks whether one can construct an unobstructed Lagrangian multi-section with asymptotic conditions prescribed by a tropical Lagrangian multi-section. We solve the realization problem for tropical Lagrangian multi-sections over a complete 2-dimensional fan that satisfy the so-called N-generic condition. As an application, we show that every rank 2 toric vector bundle on the projective plane is mirror to a Lagrangian multi-section.

Abstract:Ivansic proved that there is a link $L$ of five tori in $S^4$ with hyperbolic complement. We describe $L$ explicitly and study its properties, and discover that $L$ is in many aspects similar to the Borromean rings in $S^3$. In particular the following hold: (1) Any two tori in $L$ are unlinked, but three are not; (2) The complement $M=S^4\setminus L$ is integral arithmetic hyperbolic; (3) The symmetry group of $L$ acts $k$-transitively on its components for all $k$; (4) The double branched covering over $L$ has geometry $\mathbb H^2 \times \mathbb H^2$; (5) The fundamental group of $M$ has a nice presentation via commutators; (6) The Alexander ideal is explicit; (7) Every class $x\in H^1(M, \mathbb Z)=\mathbb Z^5$ with $x_i\neq 0$ is represented by a perfect circle-valued Morse function; (8) By longitudinal Dehn surgery along $L$ we get a closed 4-manifold with fundamental group $\mathbb Z^5$; (9) The link $L$ can be put in perfect position. This leads also to the first descriptions of a cusped hyperbolic 4-manifold as a complement of tori in $\mathbb R \mathbb P^4$ and of some explicit Lagrangian tori in the product of two surfaces of genus two.

Singular Lagrangian torus fibrations on the smoothing of algebraic cones

Abstract:Given a lattice polytope $Q\subset \mathbb{R}^n$, we can consider the cone $\sigma=C(Q)=\{\lambda(q,1)\in \mathbb{R}^{n+1}|\lambda \in \mathbb{R}_{\geq0}, q\in Q\} \subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, and the affine toric variety $Y_{\sigma}$ associated to $\sigma$. Altmann showed that the versal deformation space of $Y_\sigma$ can be described by the Minkowski decomposition of the polytope $Q$. Under some conditions on $Q$, we can obtain a smooth deformation $Y_\epsilon$ of $Y_\sigma$ using Altmann's result. In this article, we consider $Y_\epsilon$ inside some $\mathbb{C}^N$ and construct a complex fibration on $Y_\epsilon$, with general fibre $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n$ and finite singular fibres described using global coordinates related to the components of the Minkowski decomposition. We construct a singular Lagrangian torus fibration out of the complex fibration. This singular fibration admits a convex base diagram representation with cuts as a natural generalization of base diagrams described by Symington for Almost Toric Fibrations ($\dim=4$). In particular, we obtain a convex base diagram whose image is the dual cone of $C(Q)$. There is a 1-parameter family of monotone Lagrangian tori in each of these fibrations. Using the wall-crossing formula, we describe the potential associated with this family in terms of the Minkowski decomposition of $Q$, recovering the result of Lau, and discuss non-displaceability. We also discuss some other consequences of our results.

Abstract:In [FOOO12], K. Fukaya, Y. Oh, H. Ohta, and K. Ono (FOOO) obtained the monotone symplectic manifold $S^2\times S^2$ by resolving the singularity of a toric degeneration of a Hirzebruch surface. They identified a continuum of toric fibers in the resolved toric degeneration that are not Hamiltonian isotopic to the toric fibers of the standard toric structure on $S^2\times S^2$. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive classification: for any toric fiber in FOOO's construction of $S^2\times S^2$, we determine whether it is Hamiltonian isotopic to a toric fiber of the standard toric structure of $S^2\times S^2$.

Abstract:In this paper, we classify smooth, contractible affine varieties equipped with faithful torus actions of complexity two, having a unique fixed point and a two-dimensional algebraic quotient isomorphic to a toric blow-up of a toric surface. These varieties are of particular interest as they represent the simplest candidates for potential counterexamples to the linearization conjecture in affine geometry.

Abstract:In 1964, John Milnor, using a construction of two lattices by Witt, produced the first example of two flat tori that are not globally isometric and whose Laplacians for exterior forms have the same sequence of eigenvalues. The aforementioned flat tori are sixteen-dimensional. One is reducible while the second is irreducible. In the ensuing years, pairs of non-isometric flat tori that share a common Laplace spectrum have been shown to exist in dimensions four and higher. In dimensions three and lower, Alexander Schiemann proved in 1994 that any flat tori that are isospectral are in fact isometric, so four is the lowest dimension in which such pairs exist. Using a four-dimensional such pair, one can easily construct an eight-dimensional such triplet. However, triplets of mutually non-isometric flat tori that share a common Laplace spectrum in dimensions 4, 5, 6, and 7 have eluded researchers - until now. We present here the first example.

Compact monotone tall complexity one $T$-spaces

Abstract:In this paper we study compact monotone tall complexity one $T$-spaces. We use the classification of Karshon and Tolman, and the monotone condition, to prove that any two such spaces are isomorphic if and only if they have equal Duistermaat-Heckman measures. Moreover, we show that the moment polytope is Delzant and reflexive, and provide a complete description of the possible Duistermaat-Heckman measures. Whence we obtain a finiteness result that is analogous to that for compact monotone symplectic toric manifolds. Furthermore, we show that any such $T$-action can be extended to a toric $(T \times S^1)$-action. Motivated by a conjecture of Fine and Panov, we prove that any compact monotone tall complexity one $T$-space is equivariantly symplectomorphic to a Fano manifold endowed with a suitable symplectic form and a complexity one $T$-action.

Higher-dimensional Losev-Manin spaces and their geometry

Abstract:The classical Losev-Manin space can be interpreted as a toric compactification of the moduli space of $n$ points in the affine line modulo translation and scaling. Motivated by this, we study its higher-dimensional toric counterparts, which compactify the moduli space of $n$ distinct labeled points in affine space modulo translation and scaling. We show that these moduli spaces are a fibration over a product of projective spaces -- with fibers isomorphic to the Losev-Manin space -- and that they are isomorphic to the normalization of a Chow quotient. Moreover, we present a criterion to decide whether the blow-up of a toric variety along the closure of a subtorus is a Mori dream space. As an application, we demonstrate that a related generalization of the moduli space of pointed rational curves proposed by Chen, Gibney, and Krashen is not a Mori dream space when the number of points is at least nine, regardless of the dimension.

Abstract:Given a polarized tropical affine torus, we show that the fibered Lagrangian cobordism group of the corresponding symplectic manifold admits a natural geometric filtration of finite length. This contrasts with results of Sheridan-Smith in dimension four and the present author in higher dimensions, who showed that such group is infinite-dimensional. In the second half of this paper, we construct a Fourier transform between Fukaya categories of dual symplectic tori. We show that, under homological mirror symmetry, it corresponds to the Fourier transform between derived categories of coherent sheaves of dual abelian varieties due to Mukai. We use this to show how our filtration is mirror to the Bloch filtration on Chow groups of abelian varieties, but the results may be of broader interest.

Abstract:In the first part of this paper we consider compact algebraic manifolds M^2n with an algebraic (n-1)-Torus action. We show that there is a T-invariant meromorphic section $\sigma$ of the canonical bundle of M. Any such $\sigma$ defines a divisor D. On the complement M'=M-D we have a trivialization of the canonical bundle and a T-action. If the first cohomology of M' vanishes, then results of [2] imply that there is a Special Lagrangian (SLag) fibration on M'. We study how the fibers compactify in M and give examples of SLag fibrations on M', including some cases there the first cohomology of M' doesn't vanish. In the second part of the paper we study Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in M. We assume that $\sigma$ is an inverse of a holomorphic section $\eta$ of the anti-canonical bundle of M. We will see that under certain assumptions one can choose a holomorphic volume form on the smooth part D' of the divisor D s.t. orbits of the T-action give a SLag fibration on D' with respect to the metric, induced from M. Transversal sections $\eta_j$ near $\eta$ define smooth Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces D_j in M. We will show that one can deform the SLag fibration on D' to SLag fibrations on large parts of D_j. This construction applies for instance for D_j being quintics in CP^4 or Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in the Grassmanian G(2,4).

Abstract:We prove a theorem relating torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on toric varieties to polyhedrally-constructible sheaves on a vector space. At the level of K-theory, the theorem recovers Morelli’s description of the K-theory of a smooth projective toric variety (Morelli in Adv. Math. 100(2):154–182, 1993). Specifically, let X be a proper toric variety of dimension n and let $M_{\mathbb{R}} = \mathrm{Lie}(T_{\mathbb{R}}^{\vee})\cong\mathbb {R}^{n}$ be the Lie algebra of the compact dual (real) torus $T_{\mathbb{R}}^{\vee}\cong U(1)^{n}$. Then there is a corresponding conical Lagrangian Λ⊂T ∗ M ℝ and an equivalence of triangulated dg categories $\mathcal{P}\mathrm{erf}_{T}(X) \cong\mathit{Sh}_{cc}(M_{\mathbb{R}};\Lambda)$, where $\mathcal{P}\mathrm{erf}_{T}(X)$ is the triangulated dg category of perfect complexes of torus-equivariant coherent sheaves on X and Sh cc (M ℝ;Λ) is the triangulated dg category of complex of sheaves on M ℝ with compactly supported, constructible cohomology whose singular support lies in Λ. This equivalence is monoidal—it intertwines the tensor product of coherent sheaves on X with the convolution product of constructible sheaves on M ℝ.
