Abstract:The notion of one-sided localization in the homotopy invariant context is developed for dg algebras and dg categories. Applications include a simple construction of derived localization of dg algebras and dg categories, and a refinement of Drinfeld's quotient of pretriangulated dg categories.

Abstract:We describe the applications of localization methods, in particular the functorial localization formula, in the proofs of several conjectures from string theory. Functorial localization formula pushes the computations on complicated moduli spaces to simple moduli spaces. It is a key technique in the proof of the general mirror formulas, the proof of the Hori-Vafa formulas for explicit expressions of basic hypergeometric series of homogeneous manifolds, the proof of the Marino-Vafa formula, its generalizations to two partition analogue. We will also discuss our development of the mathematical theory of topological vertex and simple localization proofs of the ELSV formula and Witten conjecture.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to develop a framework for localization theory of triangulated categories , that is, from a given extension-closed subcategory of , we construct a natural extriangulated structure on together with an exact functor satisfying a suitable universality, which unifies several phenomena. Precisely, a given subcategory is thick if and only if the localization corresponds to a triangulated category. In this case, Q is nothing other than the usual Verdier quotient. Furthermore, it is revealed that is an exact category if and only if satisfies a generating condition . Such an (abelian) exact localization provides a good understanding of some cohomological functors , e.g., the heart of t -structures on and the abelian quotient of by a cluster-tilting subcategory .

Abstract:Given a recollement of three proper dg algebras over a noetherian commutative ring, e.g. three algebras which are finitely generated over the base ring, which extends one step downwards, it is shown that there is a short exact sequence of their singularity categories. This allows us to recover and generalise some known results on singularity categories of finite-dimensional algebras.

Localization theorems for approximable triangulated categories

Abstract:Approximable triangulated categories, as introduced and developed by Neeman, provide a solid framework for studying localization sequences within triangulated categories. In our paper, we demonstrate that a recollement of approximable triangulated categories, given certain mild conditions, induces short exact sequences of both triangulated subcategories and Verdier quotient categories. Specifically, in the case of a recollement of locally Hom-finite noetherian approximable triangulated categories, we find that this induces a short exact sequence of the bounded closures of compact objects within these categories. Furthermore, if the recollement extends one step downwards, it yields a short exact sequence of the singularity categories of these triangulated categories, offering a generalization of the localization sequence established by Jin-Yang-Zhou for the singularity categories of finite-dimensional algebras. We also present applications of these results within the derived categories of finite-dimensional algebras, DG algebras, and schemes.

Abstract:For a transitive Lie algebroid A on a connected manifold M and its representation on a vector bundle F , we define a morphism of cohomology groups ϒ? κ : H κ ( A, F ) → H κ ( L χ , F χ ), called the localization map, where L χ is the adjoint algebra at χ ∈ M . The main result in this paper is that if M is simply connected, or H 0 ( L χ , F χ ) is trivial, then ϒ 1 is injective. This means that the Lie algebroid 1-cohomology is totally determined by the 1-cohomology of its adjoint Lie algebra in the above two cases.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of an exact dg category, which is a simultaneous generalization of the notions of exact category in the sense of Quillen and of pretriangulated dg category in the sense of Bondal--Kapranov. It is also a differential graded analogue of Barwick's notion of exact $\infty$-category and a differential graded enhancement of Nakaoka--Palu's notion of extriangulated category. It is completely different from Positselski's notion of exact DG-category. Our motivations come for example from the categories appearing in the additive categorification of cluster algebras with coefficients. We give a definition in complete analogy with Quillen's but where the category of kernel-cokernel pairs is replaced with a more sophisticated homotopy category. We obtain a number of fundamental results concerning the dg nerve, the dg derived category, tensor products and functor categories with exact dg target. For example, we show that for a given dg category $\mathcal{A}$ with additive homotopy category $H^0(\mathcal{A})$, there is a bijection between exact structures on $\mathcal{A}$ and exact structures (in the sense of Barwick) on the dg nerve of $\mathcal{A}$. We also show the existence of the greatest exact structure on a (small) dg category with additive homotopy category. This generalizes a theorem of Rump for Quillen exact categories.

Abstract:For a connected reductive group G and an affine smooth G-variety X over the complex numbers, the localization functor takes g-modules to D-X-modules. We extend this construction to an equivariant and derived setting using the formalism of h-complexes due to Beilinson-Ginzburg, and show that the localizations of Harish-Chandra (g, K)-modules onto X = H\G have regular holonomic cohomologies when H, K subset of G are both spherical reductive subgroups. The relative Lie algebra homologies and Ext-branching spaces for (g, K)-modules are interpreted geometrically in terms of equivariant derived localizations. As direct consequences, we show that they are finite-dimensional under the same assumptions, and relate Euler-Poincare characteristics to local index theorem; this recovers parts of the recent results of M. Kitagawa. Examples and discussions on the relation to Schwartz homologies are also included.
A formal category theoretic approach to the homotopy theory of dg categories

Abstract:We introduce a bicategory which refines the localization of the category of dg categories with respect to quasi-equivalences and investigate its properties via formal category theory. Concretely, we first introduce the bicategory of dg categories $\mathsf{DBimod}$ whose Hom categories are the derived categories of dg bimodules and then define the desired bicategory as the sub-bicategory $\mathsf{DBimod}^\text{rqr}$ consisting only of right quasi-representable dg bimodules. The first half of the paper is devoted to the study of adjunctions and equivalences in these bicategories. We then show that the embedding $\mathsf{DBimod}^\text{rqr} \hookrightarrow \mathsf{DBimod}$ is a proarrow equipment in the sense of Richard J. Wood, which is a framework for formal category theory and makes it possible to talk about (weighted) (co)limits in an abstract way. Thus we obtain the notion of homotopical (co)limits in a dg category, including homotopical shifts and cones, by which we obtain a formal characterization of pretriangulated dg categories. As an immediate application we give a conceptual proof of the fact that the pretriangulatedness is preserved under the gluing procedure.

Homologically finite-dimensional objects in triangulated categories

Abstract:In this paper we investigate homologically finite-dimensional objects in the derived category of a given small dg-enhanced triangulated category. Using these we define reflexivity, hfd-closedness, and the Gorenstein property for triangulated categories, and discuss crepant categorical contractions. We illustrate the introduced notions on examples of categories of geometric and algebraic origin and provide geometric applications. In particular, we apply our results to prove a bijection between semiorthogonal decompositions of the derived category of a singular variety and the derived category of its smoothing with support on the central fiber.

We give a definition in complete analogy with Quillen's but where the category of kernel-cokernel pairs is replaced with a more sophisticated homotopy category. We introduce the notion of stable dg category, and prove that the $H^0$-category of an exact dg category $\mathcal{A}$ is triangulated if and only if $\mathcal{A}$ is stable. We illustrate our theory with several examples including the homotopy category of two-term complexes and Amiot's fundamental domain for generalized cluster categories.

Abstract:The paper studies the dual algebras of localization Roe algebras over proper metric spaces and develops a localization version of Paschke duality for K-homology. It is shown that the localization K-homology groups are isomorphic to Kasparov's K-homology groups for the Rips complex of proper metric spaces with bounded geometry. It follows that the obstruction groups to the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture can also be derived from the dual localization algebras.

Abstract:We show that, over an arbitrary commutative ring, the localizations of the categories of dg categories, of cohomologically unital, of unital and of strictly unital $A_\infty$ categories with respect to the corresponding classes of quasi-equivalences are all equivalent. The result is proven at the $\infty$-categorical level by considering the natural $\infty$-categorical models of the categories above. As an application of the techniques we develop to compare the localizations mentioned above, we provide a new proof of the existence of internal Homs for the homotopy category of dg categories in terms of the category of (strictly) unital $A_\infty$ functors. This yields a complete proof of a claim by Kontsevich and Keller.

Abstract:In this article, we study various homological invariants of differential graded (DG for short) modules over a connected DG algebra following Frankild-Jorgensen. Two different versions of homological dimensions (resolutional and functorial) are defined. In some cases, they are proved to be simply the bound of the cohomology of the DG module. Some homological identities, such as Auslander-Buchsbaum formula and Bass formula, are proved for compact DG modules over a connected DG algebra.

Abstract:To every compact oriented surface that is composed entirely out of 2-dimensional 0- and 1-handles, we construct a dg category using structures arising in Khovanov homology. These dg categories form part of the 2-dimensional layer (a.k.a. modular functor) of a categorified version of the sl(2) Turaev--Viro topological field theory. As a byproduct, we obtain a unified perspective on several hitherto disparate constructions in categorified quantum topology, including the Rozansky--Willis invariants, Asaeda--Przytycki--Sikora homologies for links in thickened surfaces, categorified Jones--Wenzl projectors and associated spin networks, and dg horizontal traces.

Abstract:For an exact dg category $\mathcal A$, we introduce its bounded dg derived category $\mathcal{D}^b_{dg}(\mathcal A)$ and establish the universal exact morphism from $\mathcal A$ to $\mathcal{D}^b_{dg}(\mathcal A)$. We prove that the dg quotient of an exact dg category by a subcategory of projective-injectives carries a canonical exact structure. We show that exact dg categories reproduce under tensor products and functor dg categories. We apply our results to 0-Auslander extriangulated categories and confirm a conjecture by Fang-Gorsky-Palu-Plamondon-Pressland for the algebraic case.

Abstract:We define a differential operator on the ``dual'' algebra of the unoriented $G$-representation algebra introduced by Conner and Floyd, where $G=(\Z_2)^n$. With the help of $G$-colored graphs (or mod 2 GKM graphs), we may use this differential operator to give a very simply equivalent description of tom Dieck--Kosniowski--Stong localization theorem in the setting of smooth closed $n$-manifolds with effective smooth $G$-actions (also called $n$-dimensional 2-torus manifolds). We then apply this to study the $G$-equivariant unoriented cobordism classification of $n$-dimensional 2-torus manifolds. We show that the $G$-equivariant unoriented cobordism class of each $n$-dimensional 2-torus manifold contains an $n$-dimensional small cover as its representative, solving the conjecture posed in [15]. In addition, we also obtain that the graded noncommutative ring formed by the equivariant unoriented cobordism classes of all possible dimensional 2-torus manifolds is generated by the classes of small covers over the products of simplices.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a toric localization formula in cohomological Donaldson Thomas theory. Consider a -1-shifted symplectic algebraic space with a C* action leaving the -1-shifted symplectic form invariant. This includes the moduli space of stable sheaves or complexes of sheaves on a Calabi-Yau threefold with a C*-invariant Calabi-Yau form, or the intersection of two C*-invariant Lagrangians in a symplectic space with a C*-invariant symplectic form. In this case we express the restriction of the Donaldson-Thomas perverse sheaf (or monodromic mixed Hodge module) defined by Joyce et al. to the attracting variety as a sum of cohomological shifts of the DT perverse sheaves on the C* fixed components. This result can be seen as a -1-shifted version of the Bialynicki-Birula decomposition for smooth schemes.
