Abstract:Given an odd prime number $p$ and an imaginary quadratic field $K$, we establish a relationship between the $p$-rank of the class group of $K$, and the classical $\lambda$-invariant of the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$. Exploiting this relationship, we prove statistical results for the distribution of $\lambda$-invariants for imaginary quadratic fields ordered according to their discriminant. Some of our results are conditional since they rely on the original Cohen--Lenstra heuristics for the distribution of the $p$-parts of class groups of imaginary quadratic fields. Some results are unconditional results ad are obtained by leveraging theorems of Byeon, Craig and others.

Abstract:The fact is studied that the ideal class numbers h of types of real quadratic fields usually contain a fixed prime number p as a factor, and the reason is found to be existing there a kind of prime ideals whose p th powers are principal. A modification of the Cohen-Lenstra Heuristics for the probability that in this situation the class number h is actually a multiple of p then is presented: Prob ( p ¦ h )=1-(1- p -1 )(1- P -2 )⋯. This idea is also extended to predict the probability that the class P represented by the above prime ideal is actually of order p : Prob ( o ( P )= p ) =1/ p . Both of these predictions agree fairly well with the numerical data.
An elementary proof of the theorem on the imaginary quadratic fields with class number 1

Abstract:Let $D$ be a square-free integer other than 1. Let $K$ be the quadratic field ${\mathbb Q}(\sqrt D)$. Let $\delta \in \{1,2\}$ with $\delta=2$ if $D\equiv 1 \pmod 4$. To each prime ideal $\mathcal P$ in $K$ that splits in $K/\mathbb Q$ we associate a binary quadratic form $f_{\mathcal P}$ and show that when $K$ is imaginary then $\mathcal P$ is principal if and only if $f_{\mathcal P}$ represents $\delta^2$, and when $K$ is real then $\mathcal P$ is principal if and only if $f_{\mathcal P}$ represents $\pm \delta^2$. As an application of this result we obtain an elementary proof of the well-known theorem on the imaginary quadratic fields with class number 1. The proof reveals some new information regarding necessary conditions for an imaginary quadratic field to have class number 1 when $D\equiv 1 \pmod 4$.

Abstract:Let $D>3$, $D\equiv3\;(4)$ be a prime, and let $\mathcal{C}$ be an ideal class in the field $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{-D})$. In this article, we give a new proof that $p(D,\mathcal{C})$, the smallest norm of a split prime $\mathfrak{p}\in\mathcal{C}$, satisfies $p(D,\mathcal{C})\ll D^L$ for some absolute constant $L$. Our proof is sieve theoretic. In particular, this allows us to avoid the use of log-free zero-density estimates (for class group $L$-functions) and the repulsion properties of exceptional zeros, two crucial inputs to previous proofs of this result.

Abstract:We describe an efficient algorithm to calculate generators of power integral bases in composites of totally real fields and imaginary quadratic fields with coprime discriminants. We show that the calculation can be reduced to solving index form equations in the original totally real fields. We illustrate our method by investigating monogenity in the infinite parametric family of imaginary quadratic extensions of the simplest quartic fields.

Abstract:In this article, we present streamlined proofs of results of Ankeny, Artin, and Chowla concerning the fundamental unit of the real quadratic field $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{p})$ for primes $p\equiv 1 \bmod{4}$ while providing a generalization of their conjecture. Using our generalization, we relate Fermat quotients of quadratic non-residues $\bmod{p}$ to sums of harmonic numbers.

Abstract:Let p be a prime number which is split in an imaginary quadratic field k. Let \mathfrak{p} be a place of k above p. Let k_\infty be the unique Z_p-extension of k which unramified outside of \mathfrak{p}, and let K_\intfy be a finite extension of k_\infty, abelian over k. In case p \notin {2,3}, we prove that the characteristic ideal of the projective limit of global units modulo elliptic units coincides with the characteristic ideal of the projective limit of the p-class groups. Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we introduce a special type of prime ideals in [math]-algebras. We define the concept of a [math]-prime ideal, which is a proper ideal [math] that preserves the property of being prime with respect to the ideal [math]. If [math] is not a subset of [math], then we call the [math]-prime ideal an [math]-prime ideal. We investigate the relationships between these ideals and their connections to minimal prime ideals and maximal ideals. Additionally, we explore various properties such as extension, transitivity, meet, join, and annihilator. Finally, we study prime ideals in [math]-algebras of continuous functions.

Abstract:This paper provides two characterizations of the primitive roots of unity in quadratic cyclotomic extensions over arbitrary fields. Firstly, we introduce a mapping from $\mathbb{N}$ to $\mathbb{N}$ crucial for describing these roots, closely tied to their order over the field. Secondly, for any prime $p$, we determine the maximal natural number $n$ such that $\zeta_{p^n}$ defines a quadratic cyclotomic extension over the field $F$. This characterization is uniform across different fields, regardless of their characteristic, and applies to both odd and even primes.

Abstract:Assuming a weaker form of the Riemann hypothesis for Dedekind zeta functions by allowing Siegel zeros, we extend a classical result of Cramér on the number of primes in short intervals to prime ideals of the ring of integers in cyclotomic extensions with norms belonging to such intervals. The extension is uniform with respect to the degree of the cyclotomic extension. Our approach is based on the arithmetic of cyclotomic fields and analytic properties of their Dedekind zeta functions together with a lower bound for the number of primes over progressions in short intervals subject to similar assumptions. Uniformity with respect to the modulus of the progression is obtained and the lower bound turns out to be best possible, apart from constants, as shown by the Brun–Titchmarsh theorem.

On the Non p-Rationality and Iwasawa Invariants of Certain Real Quadratic Fields

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime, and $m,r \in \mathbb{Z}^+$ with $m$ coprime to $p$. In this paper we investigate the real quadratic fields $K = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{m^2p^{2r} + 1})$. We first show that for $m < C$, where constant $C$ depends on $p$, the fundamental unit $\varepsilon$ of $K$ satisfies the congruence $\varepsilon^{p-1} \equiv 1 \mod{p^2}$, which implies that $K$ is a non $p$-rational field. Varying $r$ then gives an infinite family of non $p$-rational fields. When $m = 1$ and $p$ is a non-Wieferich prime, we use a criterion of Fukuda and Komatsu to show that if $p$ does not divide the class number of $K$, then the Iwasawa invariants for cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$ vanish. We conjecture that there are infinitely many $r$ such that $p$ does not divide the class number of $K$.

In this survey, we study the defining ideals [math] of the space monomial curves [math] for primitive Pythagorean triples (PPT) [math]. We give a minimal system of generators of [math]. Hence, we provide the formula for Frobenius number of a PPT. Additionally, we show that over every field of arbitrary characteristic, there are distinct primitive Pythagorean triples such that their symbolic Rees algebras are noetherian.

Abstract:Lenstra introduced the notion of Euclidean ideal class. We prove the existence of the Euclidean ideal class in abelian quartic fields. As a corollary, we prove that any biquadratic field with class number two has a Euclidean ideal class. We also prove the existence of a Euclidean ideal class in certain cubic and quadratic extensions.

Abstract:The theory of continued fractions of functions $ \sqrt D $ is used to give lower bound for class numbers $h(D)$ of general real quadratic function fields $K=k(\sqrt D)$ over $k={\bf F}_q(T)$. For five series of real quadratic function fields $K$, the bounds of $h(D)$ are given more explicitly, e.g., if $ D=F^2+c,$ \mbox{}\hspace{0.1cm} then $ h(D)\geq {deg}F /{deg} P;$ \hspace{0.1cm} if $D=(SG)^2+cS, $ then $ h(D)\geq {deg}S / {deg} P; $ if $D=(A^m+a)^2+A, $ then $ h(D)\geq {deg}A / {deg} P, $ where $P$ is irreducible polynomial splitting in $K, c\in {\bf F}_q$ is any constant. Abstract:The aim of these notes is to study some of the structural aspects of the ring of arithmetical functions. We prove that this ring is neither Noetherian nor Artinian. Furthermore, we construct various types of prime ideals. We also give an example of a semi-prime ideal that is not prime. We show that the ring of arithmetical functions has infinite Krull dimension.

Abstract:We reprove and generalize a result of Moh which bounds the minimal number of generators of an ideal in a power series ring in three variables over a field. As a consequence, we obtain minimal generating sets for the first prime of Moh, proving that the minimal number of generators might decrease depending on the field characteristic. This contradicts an statement of Sally. Finally, we show that these minimal generating sets are standard basis with the negative degree reverse lexicographic order.
