Abstract:We use the link between Jacobi continued fractions and the generating functions of certain moment sequences to study some simple transformations on them. In particular, we define and study a transformation that is appropriate for the study of spidernet graphs and their moments, and the free Meixner law.

Abstract:We define a transformation that associates certain exponential moment sequences with ordinary moment sequences in a natural way. The ingredients of this transformation are series reversion, the Sumudu transform (a variant of the Laplace transform), and the inverting of generating functions. This transformation also has a simple interpretation in terms of continued fractions. It associates lattice path objects with permutation objects, and in particular it associates the Narayana triangle with the Eulerian triangle.

On Sp(n)-Instantons and the Fourier-Mukai Transform of Complex Lagrangians

Abstract:The real Fourier-Mukai (RFM) transform relates calibrated graphs to so-called "deformed instantons" on Hermitian line bundles. We show that under the RFM transform, complex Lagrangian graphs in $R^{2n} \times T^{2n}$ correspond to Sp($n$)-instantons over $R^{2n} \times (T^{2n})^*$. In other words, the deformed Sp($n$)-instanton equation coincides with the usual Sp($n$)-instanton equation. Motivated by this observation, we study Sp($n$)-instantons on hyperkahler manifolds $X^{4n}$, with an emphasis on conical singularities. First, when $X = C(M)$ is a hyperkahler cone, we relate Sp($n$)-instantons on $X$ to tri-contact instantons on the 3-Sasakian link $M$ and consider various dimensional reductions. Second, when $X$ is an asymptotically conical (AC) hyperkahler manifold of rate $\nu \leq -\frac{2}{3}(2n+1)$, we prove a Lewis-type theorem to the following effect: If the set of AC Sp($n$)-instantons is non-empty, then every AC Hermitian Yang-Mills connection over $X$ with sufficiently fast decay at infinity is an Sp($n$)-instanton.

Abstract:We provide several simple recursive formulae for the moment sequence of infinite Bernoulli convolution. We relate moments of one infinite Bernoulli convolution with others having different but related parameters. We give examples relating Euler numbers to the moments of infinite Bernoulli convolutions. One of the examples provides moment interpretation of Pell numbers as well as new identities satisfied by Pell and Lucas numbers.
Brownian Motion on The Spider Like Quantum Graphs

Abstract:The paper contains the probabilistic analysis of the Brownian motion on the simplest quantum graph, spider: a system of N-half axis connected only at the graph's origin by the simplest (so-called Kirchhoff's) gluing conditions. The limit theorems for the diffusion on such a graph, especially if $N \to \infty$ are significantly different from the classical case $N = 2$ (full axis). Additional results concern the properties of the spectral measure of the spider Laplacian and the corresponding generalized Fourier transforms. The continuation of the paper will contain the study of the spectrum for the class of Schrödinger operators on the spider graphs: Laplacian perturbed by unbounded potential and related phase transitions.

Abstract:We study the chromatic symmetric functions of graph classes related to spiders, namely generalized spider graphs (line graphs of spiders), and what we call horseshoe crab graphs. We show that no two generalized spiders have the same chromatic symmetric function, thereby extending the work of Martin, Morin and Wagner. Additionally, we establish that a subclass of generalized spiders, which we call generalized nets, has no e-positive members, providing a more general counterexample to the necessity of the claw-free condition. We use yet another class of generalized spiders to construct a counterexample to a problem involving the $e$-positivity of claw-free, P4-sparse graphs, showing that Tsujie's result on the e-positivity of claw-free, P4-free graphs cannot be extended to graphs in this set. Finally, we investigate the e-positivity of another type of graphs, the horseshoe crab graphs (a class of unit interval graphs), and prove the positivity of all but one of the coefficients. This has close connections to the work of Gebhard and Sagan and Cho and Huh.

Abstract:In this article we consider questions related to the behavior of the moments Mmzj when the indices are restricted to specific subsequences of integers, such as the even or odd moments. If n≥2 we introduce the notion of symmetrical series of order n, showing that if zj is symmetrical then Mmzj=0 whenever n∤m; in particular, the odd moments of a symmetrical series of order 2 vanish. We prove that when zj∈lp for some p then several results characterizing the sequence from its moments hold. We show, in particular, that if Mmzj=0 whenever n∤m then zj is a rearrangement of a symmetrical series of order n. We then construct examples of sequences whose moments vanish with required density. Lastly, we construct counterexamples of several of the results valid in the lp case if we allow the moment series to be all conditionally convergent We show that for each arbitrary sequence of real numbers μmm=0∞ there are real sequences ujj=0∞ such that ∑j=0∞uj2m+1=μmm≥0.

Abstract:The symmetric spaces that appear as moduli spaces in string theory and supergravity can be decomposed with explicit metrics using parabolic subgroups. The resulting isometry between the original moduli space and this decomposition can be used to find parametrizations of the moduli. One application is to determine the volume parameter in conformal field moduli spaces for K3 surfaces. Other applications involve simple Dynkin diagram manipulations inducing "going up and down" between symmetric spaces by adding parameters and going to limits respectively. For supersymmetries such as N=6, this involves combinatorics of less familiar "restricted" Dynkin diagrams.

Abstract:Pólya in 1926 showed that the hypergeometric function $F(z)=\null_2F_1(a,b;c;z)$ has a totally monotone sequence as its coefficients; that is, $F$ is the generating function of a Hausdorff moment sequence, when $0\le a\le 1$ and $0\le b\le c.$ In this paper, we give a complete characterization of such hypergeometric functions $F$ in terms of complex parameters $a,b,c.$ To this end, we study the class of general properties of generating functions of Hausdorff moment sequences and, in particular, we provide a sufficient condition for the class by making use of a Phragmèn-Lindelöf type theorem. As an application, we give also a necessary and sufficient condition for a shifted hypergeometric function to be universally starlike.

Moments of the free Jacobi process: a matrix approach

Abstract:We compute the large size limit of the moment formula derived in \cite{DHS} for the Hermitian Jacobi process at fixed time. Our computations rely on the polynomial division algorithm which allows to obtain cancellations similar to those obtained in Lemma 3 in \cite{Bia}. In particular, we identify the terms contributing to the limit and show they satisfy a double recurrence relation. We also determine explicitly some of them and revisit a special case relying on Carlitz summation identity for terminating $1$-balanced ${}_4F_3$ functions taken at unity.

Abstract:Taking the examples of Legendre and Hermite orthogonal polynomials, we show how to interpret the fact that these orthogonal polynomials are moments of other orthogonal polynomials in terms of their associated Riordan arrays. We use these means to calculate the Hankel transforms of the associated polynomial sequences.

Abstract:In this paper we provide a way to construct new moment sequences from a given moment sequence. An operator based on multivariate positive polynomials is applied to get the new moment sequences. A class of new sequences is corresponding to a unique symmetric polynomial; if this polynomial is positive, then the new sequence becomes again a moment sequence. We will see for instance that a new sequence generated from minors of a Hankel matrix of a Stieltjes moment sequence is also a Stieltjes moment sequence.

Abstract:The family of exponential maps $f_a(z)= e^z+a$ is of fundamental importance in the study of transcendental dynamics. Here we consider the topological structure of certain subsets of the Julia set $J(f_a)$. When $a\in (-\infty,-1)$, and more generally when $a$ belongs to the Fatou set of $f_a$, it is known that $J(f_a)$ can be written as a union of "hairs" and "endpoints" of these hairs. In 1990, Mayer proved for $a\in (-\infty,-1)$ that, while the set of endpoints is totally separated, its union with infinity is a connected set. Recently, Alhabib and the second author extended this result to the case where $a \in F(f_a)$, and showed that it holds even for the smaller set of all escaping endpoints. We show that, in contrast, the set of non-escaping endpoints together with infinity is totally separated. It turns out that this property is closely related to a topological structure known as a `spider's web'; in particular we give a new topological characterisation of spiders' webs that may be of independent interest. We also show how our results can be applied to Fatou's function, $z\mapsto z + 1 + e^{-z}$.

A Combinatorial Tale of Two Scattering Amplitudes: See Two Bijections

Abstract:In this thesis, we take a journey through two different but not dissimilar stories with an underlying theme of combinatorics emerging from scattering amplitudes in quantum field theories. The first part tells the tale of the $c_2$-invariant, an arithmetic invariant related to the Feynman integral in $\phi^4$-theory, which studies the zeros of the Kirchoff polynomial and related graph polynomials. Through reformulating the $c_2$-invariant as a purely combinatorial problem, we show how enumerating certain edge bipartitions through fixed-point free involutions can complete a special case of the long sought after $c_2$ completion conjecture. The second part tells the tale of the positive Grassmannian and a combinatorial T-duality map on its cells, as related to scattering amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N} = 4$ SYM theory. In particular, T-duality is a bridge between triangulations of the hypersimplex and triangulations of the amplituhedron, two objects that appear as images of the positive Grassmannian. We give an algorithm for viewing T-duality as a map on Le diagrams and characterize a nice structure to the Le diagrams (which can then be used in lieu of the algorithm). Through this Le diagram perspective on T-duality, we show how the dimensional relationship between the positroid cells on either side of the map can be directly explained.

Integer sequences from elliptic curves

Abstract:We indicate that given an integer coordinate point on an elliptic curve y^2+axy+by=x^3+cx^2+dx+e we can identify an integer sequence whose Hankel transform is a Somos-4 sequence, and whose Hankel determinants can be used to determine the coordinates of the multiples of this point. In reverse, given the coordinates of the multiples of an integer point on such an elliptic curve, we conjecture the form of a continued fraction generating function that expands to give a sequence with the above properties.

Abstract:The motivation for this paper comes from the Halperin–Carlsson conjecture for (real) moment-angle complexes. We first give an algebraic combinatorics formula for the Möbius transform of an abstract simplicial complex K on [m]={1,…,m} in terms of the Betti numbers of the Stanley–Reisner face ring k(K) of K over a field k. We then employ a way of compressing K to provide the lower bound on the sum of those Betti numbers using our formula. Next we consider a class of generalized moment-angle complexes $\mathcal{Z}_{K}^{(\underline{\mathbb{ D}}, \underline{\mathbb{ S}})}$, including the moment-angle complex $\mathcal{Z}_{K}$ and the real moment-angle complex $\mathbb{R}\mathcal {Z}_{K}$ as special examples. We show that $H^{*}(\mathcal{Z}_{K}^{(\underline{\mathbb{ D}}, \underline{\mathbb{ S}})};\mathbf{k})$ has the same graded k-module structure as Tor k[v](k(K),k). Finally we show that the Halperin–Carlsson conjecture holds for $\mathcal{Z}_{K}$ (resp. $\mathbb{ R}\mathcal{Z}_{K}$) under the restriction of the natural T m -action on $\mathcal{Z}_{K}$ (resp. (ℤ2) m -action on $\mathbb{ R}\mathcal{Z}_{K}$).
A Motivic Pairing and the Mellin Transform in Function Fields

Abstract:We define two pairings relating the A-motive with the dual A-motive of an abelian Anderson A-module. We show that specializations of these pairings give the exponential and logarithm functions of this Anderson A-module, and we use these specializations to give precise formulas for the coefficients of the exponential and logarithm functions. We then use this pairing to express the exponential and logarithm functions as evaluations of certain infinite products. As an application of these ideas, we prove an analogue of the Mellin tranform formula for the Riemann zeta function in the case of Carlitz zeta values. We also give an example showing how our results apply to Carlitz multiple zeta values.

Abstract:We describe Gauss-type maps as geometric realizations of certain codes in the monoid of nonnegative matrices in the extended modular group. Each such code, together with an appropriate choice of unimodular intervals in , determines a dual pair of graph-directed iterated function systems, whose attractors contain intervals and constitute the domains of a dual pair of Gauss-type maps. Our framework covers many continued fraction algorithms (such as Farey fractions, Ceiling, Even and Odd, Nearest Integer, ) and provides explicit dual algorithms and characterizations of those quadratic irrationals having a purely periodic expansion.

Abstract:We show that Poincaré invariance directly implies the existence of a complexified Minkowski space whose real and imaginary directions unify spacetime and spin, which we dub spinspacetime. Remarkably, despite the intrinsic noncommutativity of spin, this framework describes mutually commuting holomorphic or anti-holomorphic coordinates, which trace back to the complex geometry of twistor space. As a physical implication, we show that the Newman-Janis shift property of spinning black holes can be derived from a complexified version of equivalence principle. The fact that the exponential spin factors of their scattering amplitudes simply arise from half-Fourier transforms suggests that classically spinning massive states are realized in massive twistor coherent states.
