Abstract:Optically transparent wound dressings offer a range of potential applications in the biomedical field, as they allow for the monitoring of wound healing progress without having to replace the dressing. These dressings must be impermeable to water and bacteria, yet permeable to moisture vapor and atmospheric gases in order to maintain a moist environment at the wound site. This review article provides a comprehensive overview of the types of wound dressings, novel wound dressing materials, advanced fabrication techniques for transparent wound dressing materials, and the key features and applications of transparent dressings for the healing process, as well as how it can improve healing outcomes. This review mainly focuses on representing specifications of transparent polymeric wound dressing materials, such as transparent electrospun nanofibers, transparent crosslinked hydrogels, and transparent composite films/membranes. Due to the advance properties of electrospun nanofiber such as large surface area, enable efficient incorporation of antibacterial molecules, a structure similar to the extracellular matrix, and high mechanical stability, is often used in wound dressing applications. We also highlight the hydrogels or films for wound healing applications, it's promote the healing process, provide a moisture environment, and offer pain relief with their cool, high-water content, excellent biocompatibility, and bio-biodegradability.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The paper primarily explores the latest advancements and applications of transparent wound dressings, aiming to address the issues associated with traditional wound dressings, such as the inability to directly observe wound healing, pain during dressing changes, and insufficient protection against bacterial infections. Specifically, the paper attempts to address the following key issues: 1. **Improving the convenience of wound healing monitoring**: Traditional wound dressings often require frequent changes to check the progress of wound healing, which not only increases the patient's suffering but may also lead to secondary wound damage. Transparent wound dressings allow healthcare professionals to directly observe the wound's condition without removing the dressing, thereby reducing the frequency of changes, minimizing patient discomfort, and lowering the risk of infection. 2. **Maintaining a moist environment at the wound site**: An ideal wound dressing should be able to maintain a moist environment around the wound to promote the healing process. The transparent dressings mentioned in the paper are breathable and moisture-permeable, effectively maintaining appropriate humidity levels while preventing excessive moisture loss. 3. **Enhancing antibacterial properties**: To prevent wound infections, transparent wound dressings are designed with certain antibacterial functions. By embedding antibacterial molecules into the material or using natural antibacterial components, these dressings can protect the wound from bacterial invasion while promoting healing. 4. **Improving mechanical stability**: Many modern wound dressings face issues of insufficient mechanical strength, especially when subjected to external forces. Transparent wound dressings typically use composite materials or nanofiber structures to enhance their mechanical stability, ensuring they do not easily get damaged during use. 5. **Biocompatibility and safety**: The paper emphasizes the importance of selecting materials that are biocompatible, non-toxic, and do not cause allergic reactions. The development of transparent wound dressings takes these factors into account to ensure that the dressings are skin-friendly and do not cause adverse reactions in patients. In summary, the main goal of the paper is to summarize the latest advancements in the field of transparent wound dressings, including material types, preparation techniques, and their key features and applications in promoting wound healing. The aim is to advance this field and provide more efficient and safe treatment options for clinical practice.
