Abstract:For an ascending correspondence $F:X\to 2^X$ with chain-complete values on a complete lattice $X$, we prove that the set of fixed points is a complete lattice. This strengthens Zhou's fixed point theorem. For chain-complete posets that are not necessarily lattices, we generalize the Abian-Brown and the Markowsky fixed point theorems from single-valued maps to multivalued correspondences. We provide an application in game theory.

Abstract:We show how the relatively initial or relatively terminal fixed points for a well-behaved functor $F$ form a pair of adjoint functors between $F$-coalgebras and $F$-algebras. We use the language of locally presentable categories to find sufficient conditions for existence of this adjunction. We show that relative fixed points may be characterized as (co)equalizers of the free (co)monad on $F$. In particular, when $F$ is a polynomial functor on $\mathsf{Set}$ the relative fixed points are a quotient or subset of the free term algebra or the cofree term coalgebra. We give examples of the relative fixed points for polynomial functors and an example which is the Sierpinski carpet. Lastly, we prove a general preservation result for relative fixed points.

The fixed point property of a poset and the fixed point property of the poset induced by its extremal points

Abstract:For a connected finite poset $P$, let $E(P)$ be the poset induced by the extremal points of $P$. We show that the fixed point property of $E(P)$ implies the fixed point property of $P$. On the other hand, we show that a homomorphism $f : E(P) \rightarrow Q$ can be extended to $P$ if $Q$ is a flat poset not containing a 4-crown. We conclude that every retract-crown of $E(P)$ with more than four points is a retract-crown of $P$, too. We see that for $P$ having the fixed point property but $E(P)$ not, every edge of every crown in $E(P)$ must belong to a so-called improper 4-crown, with additional specifications if $P$ has height two. The results provide several sufficient and necessary conditions for $P$ having the fixed point property, and these conditions refer to objects simpler than $P$.

Abstract:We use a technique introduced by M. Beattie et al for constructing finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras. We apply, this technique to obtain the Ore extension of the algebra kS of a finite commutative Clifford monoid S. This Ore extension is a non-commutative and non-cocommutative pointed semilattice graded weak Hopf algebra. Its quotients are finite dimensional pointed semilattice graded weak Hopf algebras. Finally, we obtain the Ore extension of the algebra of the dual of the commutative Clifford monoid.
Common fixed point theorems for a commutative family of nonexpansive mappings in complete random normed modules

Abstract:In this paper, we first introduce and study the notion of random Chebyshev centers. Further, based on the recently developed theory of stable sets, we introduce the notion of random complete normal structure so that we can prove the two deeper theorems: one of which states that random complete normal structure is equivalent to random normal structure for an $L^0$-convexly compact set in a complete random normed module; the other of which states that if $G$ is an $L^0$-convexly compact subset with random normal structure of a complete random normed module, then every commutative family of nonexpansive mappings from $G$ to $G$ has a common fixed point. We also consider the fixed point problems for isometric mappings in complete random normed modules. Finally, as applications of the fixed point theorems established in random normed modules, when the measurable selection theorems fail to work, we can still prove that a family of strong random nonexpansive operators from $(\Omega,\mathcal{F},P)\times C$ to $C$ has a common random fixed point, where $(\Omega,\mathcal{F},P)$ is a probability space and $C$ is a weakly compact convex subset with normal structure of a Banach space.

Abstract:We provide a construction of the fixed points of functors which may not be inital algebras or final coalgebras. For an endofunctor F, this fixed point construction may be expressed as a pair of adjoint functors between F-coalgebras and F-algebras. We prove a version of the limit colimit coincidence theorem for these generalized fixed points.

Abstract:In recent times there have been two prominent trends in metric fixed point theory. One is the use of weak contractive inequalities and the other is the use of binary relations. Combining the two trends, in this paper we establish a relation-theoretic fixed point result for a mapping which is defined on a metric space with an arbitrary binary relation and satisfies a weak contractive inequality for any pair of points whenever the pair of points is related by a given relation. The uniqueness is obtained by assuming some extra conditions. The metric space is assumed to be R -complete. We use R -continuity of functions. The property of local T-transitivity of the relation R is used in the main theorem. There is an illustrative example. An existing fixed point result is generalized through the present work. We use a method in the proof of our main theorem which is a blending of relation-theoretic and analytic approaches.
A Lefschetz fixed-point formula for noncompact fixed-point sets

Abstract:We obtain an equivariant index theorem, or Lefschetz fixed-point formula, for isometries from complete Riemannian manifolds to themselves. The fixed-point set of such an isometry may be noncompact. We build on techniques developed by Roe. Key new ingredients are a localised functional on operators with bounded smooth kernels, and an algebra (reminiscent of Yu's localisation algebra) of `asymptotically local' operators, on which this functional has an asymptotic trace property. As consequences, we show that some earlier indices used are special cases of the one we introduce here, and obtain an obstruction to positive scalar curvature.

Abstract:The celebrated Kleene fixed point theorem is crucial in the mathematical modelling of recursive specifications in Denotational Semantics. In this paper we discuss whether the hypothesis of the aforementioned result can be weakened. An affirmative answer to the aforesaid inquiry is provided so that a characterization of those properties that a self-mapping must satisfy in order to guarantee that its set of fixed points is non-empty when no notion of completeness are assumed to be satisfied by the partially ordered set. Moreover, the case in which the partially ordered set is coming from a quasi-metric space is treated in depth. Finally, an application of the exposed theory is obtained. Concretely, a mathematical method to discuss the asymptotic complexity of those algorithms whose running time of computing fulfills a recurrence equation is presented. Moreover, the aforesaid method retrieves the fixed point based methods that appear in the literature for asymptotic complexity analysis of algorithms. However, our new method improves the aforesaid methods because it imposes fewer requirements than those that have been assumed in the literature and, in addition, it allows to state simultaneously upper and lower asymptotic bounds for the running time computing.

Abstract:In this note, we deal with the fixed points of an endofunctor $F: \mathcal{C} \longrightarrow \mathcal{C}$. Three classes of fixed points are introduced, and the case when $F$ is an endomorphism of a category with pretopology is investigated. We show existence of induced structures on the category of fixed points, and, when a pretopology is defined, give a characterization of fixed points in terms of sheaf cohomology on $\mathcal{C}$.

The first fixed point theorem is concerned with a class of mixed monotone operators. In the second fixed point theorem, the nonlinear operators are neither monotone nor mixed monotone. Abstract:We show that if $G$ is amenable and $A\subseteq G$ has positive upper Banach density, then there is an identity neighborhood $B$ in the Bohr topology on $G$ that is almost contained in $AA^{-1}$ in the sense that $B\backslash AA^{-1}$ has upper Banach density $0$. This generalizes the abelian case (due to Følner) and the countable case (due to Beiglböck, Bergelson, and Fish). The proof is indirectly based on local stable group theory in continuous logic. The main ingredients are Grothendieck's double-limit characterization of relatively weakly compact sets in spaces of continuous functions, along with results of Ellis and Nerurkar on the topological dynamics of weakly almost periodic flows.

Fixpoint operators for 2-categorical structures

Abstract:Fixpoint operators are tools to reason on recursive programs and data types obtained by induction (e.g. lists, trees) or coinduction (e.g. streams). They were given a categorical treatment with the notion of categories with fixpoints. A theorem by Plotkin and Simpson characterizes existence and uniqueness of fixpoint operators for categories satisfying some conditions on bifree algebras and recovers the standard examples of the category Cppo ($\omega$-complete pointed partial orders and continuous functions) in domain theory and the relational model in linear logic. We present a categorification of this result and develop the theory of 2-categorical fixpoint operators where the 2-dimensional framework allows to model the execution steps for languages with (co)inductive principles. We recover the standard categorical constructions of initial algebras and final coalgebras for endofunctors as well as fixpoints of generalized species and polynomial functors.

Abstract:The universal C*-algebras of discrete product systems generalize the Toeplitz- Cuntz algebras and the Toeplitz algebras of discrete semigroups. We consider a semigroup P which is quasi-lattice ordered in the sense of Nica, and, for a product system p:E\to P, we study those representations of E, called covariant, which respect the lattice structure of P. We identify a class of product systems, which we call compactly aligned, for which there is a purely C*-algebraic characterization of covariance, and study the algebra C*_{cov}(P,E) which is universal for covariant representations of E. Our main theorem is a characterization of the faithful representations of C*_{cov}(P,E) when P is the positive cone of a free product of totally-ordered amenable groups.

Abstract:In this paper we extend the coupled fixed point theorems for mixed monotone operators $F:X \times X \rightarrow X$ obtained in [T.G. Bhaskar, V. Lakshmikantham, \textit{Fixed point theorems in partially ordered metric spaces and applications}, Nonlinear Anal. \textbf{65} (2006) 1379-1393] and [N.V. Luong and N.X. Thuan, \textit{Coupled fixed points in partially ordered metric spaces and application}, Nonlinear Anal. \textbf{74} (2011) 983-992], by weakening the involved contractive condition. An example as well an application to nonlinear Fredholm integral equations are also given in order to illustrate the effectiveness of our generalizations.

Abstract:The contraction condition in the Banach contraction principle forces a function to be continuous. Many authors overcome this obligation and weaken the hypotheses via metric spaces endowed with a partial order. In this paper, we present some coupled fixed point theorems for the functions having mixed monotone properties on ordered vector metric spaces, which are more general spaces than partially ordered metric spaces. We also define the double monotone property and investigate the previous results with this property. In the last section, we prove the uniqueness of a coupled fixed point for non-monotone functions. In addition, we present some illustrative examples to emphasize that our results are more general than the ones in the literature.

Abstract:Recently, Blecher and Knopfmacher explored the notion of fixed points in integer partitions and hypothesized on the relative number of partitions with and without a fixed point. We resolve their open question by working fixed points into a growing number of interconnected partition statistics involving Frobenius symbols, Dyson's crank, and the mex (minimal excluded part). Also, we generalize the definition of fixed points and connect that expanded notion to the $\text{mex}_j$ defined by Hopkins, Sellers, and Stanton as well as the $j$-Durfee rectangle defined by Hopkins, Sellers, and Yee.
