Abstract:QCD instantons generate non-perturbative spin- and flavor- dependent correlations between light quarks. We report on the results of a series of studies on the contribution of instantons to the electro-weak structure of light hadrons. We show that the Instanton Liquid Model can reproduce the available data on proton and pion form factors at large momentum transfer, and explain the delay of the onset of the perturbative regime in some exclusive reactions. We provide unambiguous evidence that instantons lead to the formation of a deeply bound scalar, color anti-triplet diquark, with a mass of about 450 MeV. The strong attraction in the [Formula: see text], scalar diquark channel leads to a quantitative description of non-leptonic decays of hyperons and provides a microscopic dynamical explanation of the Δ I = 1/2 rule.

Abstract:Nonperturbative nolocal structure of QCD vacuum is well described by instanton model. Specific helicity and flavor structure of zero modes of quarks in instanton field allows simultaneously to explain some important features of low- and high- energy hadron phenomemology. The basic characteristics of hadron spectrum, partonic sum rules, heavy-quark potential are briefly discussed within the instanton liquid model.

Abstract:We review some aspects of spin physics where QCD instantons play an important role. In particular, their large contributions in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering and polarized proton on proton scattering. We also review their possible contribution in the $\mathcal{P}$-odd pion azimuthal charge correlations in peripheral $AA$ scattering at collider energies.

Abstract:We evaluate a number of new instanton-induced phenomena in QCD, starting with static dipole-dipole potentials, and proceeding to quark-quark and dipole-dipole scattering at high energy. We use a nonperturbative formulation of the scattering amplitude in terms of a correlator of two Wilson lines (quarks) or Wilson loops (dipoles) and analyze the Euclidean amplitudes with both perturbative gluons and instantons. The results are analytically continued to Minkowski geometry by interpreting the angle between the Wilson lines as rapidity. We discuss the relevance of our results for the phenomenology of near-forward hadronic processes at high energy, especially for processes with multiple color exchanges.

Instanton Effects on the Twist-Three Light-Cone Distribution Amplitudes of Pion and Light Scalar Mesons above 1 GeV

Abstract:By use of single instanton approximation the twist-3 light-cone distribution amplitudes of pion as well as the p-wave mesons, i.e., $f_{0}(1370)$, $K_{0}^{\ast}(1430)$ and $a_{0}(1450)$ are investigated within the framework of QCD moment sum rules with inclusion of instanton effects based on the valence quark model. Results show that there is much change on light-cone distribution amplitudes by the isospin- and chirality-dependent instanton contribution compared with the instanton-free ones. We find the intanton involved twist-3 LCDAs are non-positive-definite within some range of momentum fraction and there are rapid changes at two ends of momentum fraction. To guarantee the convergence of moments by the method in this work a low instanton density should be adopted, for instance $n_{c}=1/2\rm{fm^{-4}}$ is welcomed. Possible ingredients which might have impact on the results are briefly discussed. These light-cone distribution amplitudes may be helpful to analyze exclusive heavy flavored processes.

Abstract:A generalization of Wilson's loop prescription to include spin is proposed. Instantons are shown to generate a spin-spin interaction between quarks. The large splitting between $\frac{J}{\ensuremath{\psi}}(3100)$ and ${\ensuremath{\eta}}_{c}(2830)$ may, in fact, be dominated by this mechanism and thus may provide a vivid demonstration of the physical effects of instantons. Heuristic arguments are presented which explain the sign and form of the interaction.

Abstract:The instanton vacuum picture is used to study hadronic matrix elements of the twist-3 (dimension-4, spin-1) QCD operators measuring the quark spin density and spin-orbit correlations. The QCD operators are converted to effective operators in the low-energy effective theory emerging after chiral symmetry breaking, in a systematic approach based on the diluteness of the instanton medium and the $1/N_c$ expansion. The instanton fields induce spin-flavor-dependent "potential" terms in the effective operators, complementing the "kinetic" terms from the quark field momenta. As a result, the effective operators obey the same equation-of-motion relations as the original QCD operators. The spin-orbit correlations are qualitatively different from naive quark model expectations.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the instanton effects to the mass of 0(++) glueball by QCD sum rule approach. The instantons are assummed to be free from each other and be with definite density varying with their sizes. We find the upper bound of mass of the 0(++) glueball is 1.3GeV and very possibly the mass can be as low as 1GeV. Besides, the instanton effects greatly improve the stability of the sum rule and overtake the contribution of quarks and gluons condensate. The centre size of instantons at 1/3fm can give the stablest sum rule.
Spin asymmetries for $C$-even quarkonium production as a probe of gluon distributions

Abstract:Within the framework of transverse momentum dependent factorization in combination with nonrelativistic QCD, we study charmonium and bottomonium production in hadronic collisions. We focus on quarkonium states with even charge conjugation, for which the color-singlet production mechanism is expected to be also dominant in the small transverse momentum region, $q_T^2 \ll 4 M_{c,b}^2$. It is shown that the distributions of linearly polarized gluons inside unpolarized, longitudinally and transversely polarized protons contribute to the cross sections for scalar and pseudoscalar quarkonia in a very distinctive, parity-dependent way, whereas their effects on higher angular momentum states are strongly suppressed. We derive analytical expressions for single and double spin asymmetries, which would allow for the direct extraction of the gluon transverse momentum dependent distributions, mirroring the phenomenological studies of the Drell-Yan processes aimed at the extraction of their quark counterparts. By adopting Gaussian models for the gluon TMDs, which fulfill without saturating everywhere their positivity bounds, we provide numerical predictions for the transverse single-spin asymmetries. These observables could be measured at LHCSpin, the fixed target experiment planned at the LHC.

Abstract:The dynamical fluctuations in instanton induced events in e+p deep-inelastic scattering are studied using QCDINS 2.0 Monte Carlo generator. The hadron system produced from the fusion of quark–gluon in the presence of instanton, referred to as instanton final state (IFS), is identified by a pz-sorting together with a θ cut method. The dynamical fluctuations inside the current jet and IFS are compared by means of the method of normalized factorial moments. The current jets are found to possess the typical characteristics of a "circular jet" with axial symmetry, while the dynamical fluctuations inside the IFS represent a three-dimensional isotropy.

Abstract:We analyze topological objects in pure QCD in the presence of external quarks by calculating the distributions of instanton and monopole densities around static color sources. We find a suppression of the densities close to external sources and the formation of a flux tube between a static quark--antiquark pair. The similarity in the behavior of instantons and monopoles around static sources might be due to a local correlation between these topological objects. On an $8^{3} \times 4$ lattice at $\beta=5.6$, it turns out that topological quantities are correlated approximately two lattice spacings.

Abstract:Instanton processes are present in a variety of quantum field theories relevant to high energy as well as condensed matter physics. While they have led to important theoretical insights and physical applications, their underlying features often remain elusive due to the complicated computational treatment. Here, we address this problem by studying topological as well as non-topological instantons using Monte Carlo methods on lattices of interacting spins. As a proof of principle, we systematically construct instanton solutions in $O(3)$ non-linear sigma models with a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in $(1 + 1)$ and $(1 + 2)$ dimensions, thereby resembling an example of a chiral magnet. We demonstrate that, due to their close correspondence, Monte Carlo techniques in spin-lattice systems are well suited to describe topologically non-trivial field configurations in these theories. In particular, by means of simulated annealing, we demonstrate how to obtain domain walls, merons and critical instanton solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we study instanton contributions to the correlator of the hybrid current g (q) over bar sigma(mu nu)G(nu mu mu)(a)T(q)(a). These contributions are then included in a QCD sum-rule analysis of the isoscalar 0(++) hybrid mass. We find a mass at 1.83 GeV for the ((u) over bar ug + (d) over bar dg)/root 2 p hybrid. However, for the (s) over bar sg hybrid, we find the sum rules are unstable. We also study nonzero width effects, which affect the mass prediction. The mixing effects between these two states are studied and we find QCD sum rules support the existence of a flavor singlet hybrid with mass at around 1.9 GeV. Finally, we study the mixing effects between hybrid and glueball currents. The mixing between the ((u) over bar ug + (d) over bar dg)/root 2((s) over bar sg) and the glueball causes two states, one in the region 1.4-1.8 GeV (1.4-2.2 GeV), and the other in the range 1.8-2.2 GeV (2.2-2.6 GeV).

Abstract:We construct improved QCD sum rules for the nucleon magnetic moments by implementing direct-instanton contributions to the operator product expansion of the nucleon correlator in a magnetic background field. The instanton contributions are found to affect only those sum rules which had previously been considered unstable. The new sum rules show a high degree of stability and reproduce the experimental values of the nucleon magnetic moments for values of the magnetic quark condensate susceptibility which are consistent with other estimates.

Abstract:The observation of the vector meson's global spin alignment by the STAR Collaboration reveals that strong spin correlations may exist for quarks and antiquarks in relativistic heavy-ion collisions in the normal direction of the reaction plane. We propose a systematic method to describe such correlations in the quark matter. We classify them as local and long range quark spin correlations in the system. We show in particular that the effective quark spin correlations contain the genuine spin correlations originated directly from the dynamical process as well as those induced by averaging over other degrees of freedom. We also show that such correlations can be studied by measuring the vector meson's spin density matrix and hyperon-hyperon and hyperon-anti-hyperon spin correlations. Abstract:We discuss a general framework for the evaluation of the gluonic form factors in light hadrons at low momentum transfer, in the QCD instanton vacuum. At medium resolution of the order of the inverse mean instanton size, the glue is mostly localized in single or pair of pseudoparticles, and globally constrained by the fluctuations of their topological charges. These pseudoparticles trap light quarks, giving rise to emerging multiflavor 't Hooft interactions. We explicitly evaluate the gluonic scalar, pseudoscalar, energy-momentum tensor (EMT), and the leading C-odd and C-even three gluons hadronic form factors, at next to leading order (NLO) in the instanton density, including molecular clusters of like and unlike instantons. We use the results for the EMT to address the contribution of the gluons in Ji$^\prime$s mass and spin sum rules, at low resolution. When evolved, our results for the mass and spin composition of the nucleon, are shown to be in good agreement with the recently reported lattice results at higher resolution.

Abstract:A scheme of combining the theory of many instantons and the effective Lagrangian of QCD is proposed to study the nucleon structure. With this approach, the vacuum structure of nonperturbative QCD is discussed and a reasonable potential of quark confinement is obtained. The calculated results of the constituent quark mass and the decay constant of pion agree with experimental data quite well.

Abstract:Anomalous neutral to charged kaon correlations measured by the ALICE collaboration have defied usual explanations. We propose that the large fluctuations could arise because of a disoriented isospin condensate where there is an imbalance between up and down condensates at the time kaons hadronize. This could happen in heavy-ion collisions when the quark condensate re-forms as the system cools and the approximate chiral symmetry of QCD is broken. Within the linear sigma model, we show that the energy cost of forming a disoriented isospin condensate is small making it very plausible.
