Abstract:Let $\beta>0$ and consider an $n$-point process $\lambda_1, \lambda_2,..., \lambda_n$ from Hermite $\beta$ ensemble on the real line $\mathbb{R}$. Dumitriu and Edelman discovered a tri-diagonal matrix model and established the global Wigner semicircle law for normalized empirical measures. In this paper we prove that the average number of states in a small interval in the bulk converges in probability when the length of the interval is larger than $\sqrt {\log n}$, i.e., local semicircle law holds. And the number of positive states in $(0,\infty)$ is proved to fluctuate normally around its mean $n/2$ with variance like $\log n/\pi^2\beta$. The proofs rely largely on the way invented by Valk$\acute{o}$ and Vir$\acute{a}$g of counting states in any interval and the classical martingale argument.

Abstract:In 2007, Á. Baricz put forward a conjecture concerning Turán-type inequalities for Gaussian hypergeometric functions (see Conjecture \ref{ConjA} in Section \ref{Sec1}). In this paper, the authors disprove this conjecture with several methods, and present Turán-type double inequalities for Gaussian hypergeometric functions, and sharp bounds for complete and generalized elliptic integrals of the first kind.

Abstract:The q-binomial coefficients are the polynomial cousins of the traditional binomial coefficients, and a number of identities for binomial coefficients can be translated into this polynomial setting. For instance, the familiar vanishing of the alternating sum across row n of Pascal's triangle is captured by the so-called Gaussian Formula. In this paper, we find a q-binomial congruence which synthesizes this result and Fleck's congruence for binomial coefficients.

Abstract:In this short note, we find an equivalent combinatorial condition only involving finite sums under which a centered Gaussian random vector with multinomial covariance matrix satisfies the Gaussian product inequality (GPI) conjecture. These covariance matrices are relevant since their off-diagonal elements are negative, which is the hardest case to cover for the GPI conjecture, as mentioned by [Russell, O., \& Sun, W. 2022. Abstract:This paper extends various results related to the Gaussian product inequality (GPI) conjecture to the setting of disjoint principal minors of Wishart random matrices. This includes product-type inequalities for matrix-variate analogs of completely monotone functions and Bernstein functions of Wishart disjoint principal minors, respectively. In particular, the product-type inequalities apply to inverse determinant powers. Quantitative versions of the inequalities are also obtained when there is a mix of positive and negative exponents. Furthermore, an extended form of the GPI is shown to hold for the eigenvalues of Wishart random matrices by virtue of their law being multivariate totally positive of order 2 (MTP${}_2$). A new, unexplored avenue of research is presented to study the GPI from the point of view of elliptical distributions.

Abstract:An important connection between the finite dimensional Gaussian Wick product and Lebesgue convolution product will be proven first. Then this connection will be used to prove an important Hölder inequality for the norms of Gaussian Wick products, reprove Nelson hypercontractivity inequality, and prove a more general inequality whose marginal cases are the Hölder and Nelson inequalities mentioned before. We will show that there is a deep connection between the Gaussian Hölder inequality and classic Hölder inequality, between the Nelson hypercontractivity and classic Young inequality with the sharp constant, and between the third more general inequality and an extension by Lieb of the Young inequality with the best constant. Since the Gaussian probability measure exists even in the infinite dimensional case, the above three inequalities can be extended, via a classic Fatou's lemma argument, to the infinite dimensional framework.

Abstract:The q-Gaussians are discussed from the point of view of variance mixtures of normals and exchangeability. For each q< 3, there is a q-Gaussian distribution that maximizes the Tsallis entropy under suitable constraints. This paper shows that q-Gaussian random variables can be represented as variance mixtures of normals. These variance mixtures of normals are the attractors in central limit theorems for sequences of exchangeable random variables; thereby, providing a possible model that has been extensively studied in probability theory. The formulation provided has the additional advantage of yielding process versions which are naturally q-Brownian motions. Explicit mixing distributions for q-Gaussians should facilitate applications to areas such as option pricing. The model might provide insight into the study of superstatistics.

The main ingredients of the proofs are the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup, and another natural semigroup associated to the Gaussian $\partial$-Laplacian.

Abstract:In this article, we will first introduce a class of Gaussian processes, and prove the quasi-invariant theorem with respect to the Gaussian Wiener measure, which is the law of the associated Gaussian process. In particular, it includes the case of the fractional Brownian motion. As applications, we will establish the integration by parts formula and Bismut-Elworthy-Li formula on the Gaussian path space, and by which some logarithmic Sobolev inequalities will be presented. Moreover, we will also provides some applications in the field of financial mathematics.
A Unified Approach to Unimodality of Gaussian Polynomials

Abstract:In 2013, Pak and Panova proved the strict unimodality property of $q$-binomial coefficients $\binom{\ell+m}{m}_q$ (as polynomials in $q$) based on the combinatorics of Young tableaux and the semigroup property of Kronecker coefficients. They showed it to be true for all $\ell,m\geq 8$ and a few other cases. We propose a different approach to this problem based on computer algebra, where we establish a closed form for the coefficients of these polynomials and then use cylindrical algebraic decomposition to identify exactly the range of coefficients where strict unimodality holds. This strategy allows us to tackle generalizations of the problem, e.g., to show unimodality with larger gaps or unimodality of related sequences. In particular, we present proofs of two additional cases of a conjecture by Stanley and Zanello.

Abstract:The long-standing Gaussian product inequality (GPI) conjecture states that $E [\prod_{j=1}^{n}X_j^{2m_j}]\geq\prod_{j=1}^{n}E[X_j^{2m_j}]$ for any centered Gaussian random vector $(X_1,\dots,X_n)$ and $m_1,\dots,m_n\in\mathbb{N}$. In this paper, we describe a computational algorithm involving sums-of-squares representations of multivariate polynomials that can be used to resolve the GPI conjecture. To exhibit the power of this novel method, we apply it to prove two new GPIs: $E[X_1^{2m_1}X_2^{6}X_3^{4}]\ge E[X_1^{2m_1}]E[X_2^{6}]E[X_3^{4}]$ and $E[X_1^{2m_1}X_2^{2}X_3^{2}X_4^{2}]\ge E[X_1^{2m_1}]E[X_2^{2}]E[X_3^{2}]E[X_4^{2}]$.

Abstract:Bernstein's classical inequality asserts that given a trigonometric polynomial $T$ of degree $n\geq1$, the sup-norm of the derivative of $T$ does not exceed $n$ times the sup-norm of $T$. We present various approaches to prove this inequality and some of its natural extensions/variants, especially when it comes to replacing the sup-norm with the $L^p-norm$.

Abstract:Concentration inequalities for the sample mean, like those due to Bernstein and Hoeffding, are valid for any sample size but overly conservative, yielding confidence intervals that are unnecessarily wide. The central limit theorem (CLT) provides asymptotic confidence intervals with optimal width, but these are invalid for all sample sizes. To resolve this tension, we develop new computable concentration inequalities with asymptotically optimal size, finite-sample validity, and sub-Gaussian decay. These bounds enable the construction of efficient confidence intervals with correct coverage for any sample size and efficient empirical Berry-Esseen bounds that require no prior knowledge of the population variance. We derive our inequalities by tightly bounding non-uniform Kolmogorov and Wasserstein distances to a Gaussian using zero-bias couplings and Stein's method of exchangeable pairs.
