Abstract:Let (X, tau(1)) and (Y, tau(2)) be two Hausdorff locally convex spaces with continuous duals X, and Y', respectively, L (X, Y) be the space of all continuous linear operators from X into Y, K (X, Y) be the space of all compact operators of L (X, Y). Let WOT and UOT be the weak operator topology and uniform operator topology on K (X, Y), respectively. In this paper, we characterize a full-invariant property of K (X, Y); that is, if the sequence space X has the signed-weak gliding hump property, then each; lambda-multiplier WOT-convergent series Sigma(i) T-i in K(X, Y) must be X-multiplier convergent with respect to all topologies between WOT and UOT if and only if each continuous linear operator T: (X, tau(1)) --> or (lambda(beta), sigma(lambda(beta),lambda)) is compact. Abstract:We generalize the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ invariant of topological insulators using noncommutative differential geometry in two different ways. First, we model Majorana zero modes by KQ-cycles in the framework of analytic K-homology, and we define the noncommutative $\mathbb{Z}_2$ invariant as a topological index in noncommutative topology. Second, we look at the geometric picture of the Pfaffian formalism of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ invariant, i.e., the Kane--Mele invariant, and we define the noncommutative Kane--Mele invariant over the fixed point algebra of the time reversal symmetry in the noncommutative 2-torus. Finally, we are able to prove the equivalence between the noncommutative topological $\mathbb{Z}_2$ index and the noncommutative Kane--Mele invariant.

Abstract:We analyze topological invariants, in particular Z2 invariants, which characterize time reversal invariant topological insulators, in the framework of index theory and K-theory. After giving a careful study of the underlying geometry and K-theory, we formalize topological invariants as elements of KR theory. To be precise, the strong topological invariants lie in the higher KR groups of spheres; KR̃−j−1(SD+1,d). Here j is a KR-cycle index, as well as an index counting off the Altland-Zirnbauer classification of Time Reversal Symmetry (TRS) and Particle Hole Symmetry (PHS)—as we show. In this setting, the computation of the invariants can be seen as the evaluation of the natural pairing between KR-cycles and KR-classes. This fits with topological and analytical index computations as well as with Poincaré Duality and the Baum–Connes isomorphism for free Abelian groups. We provide an introduction starting from the basic objects of real, complex and quaternionic structures which are the mathematical objects corresponding to TRS and PHS. We furthermore detail the relevant bundles and K-theories (Real and Quaternionic) that lead to the classification as well as the topological setting for the base spaces.

Two complete invariants of oriented knots

Abstract:We construct two complete invariants of oriented classical knots in space. The value of each invariant on any knot is a set, infinite for the first invariant and finite for the second. The finite set is computed algorithmically from any knot diagram in a finite number of steps. The algorithm reveals the knotting number of the knot as well.

Abstract:We create Resthetikhin-Turaev topological invariants of closed orientable three-manifolds from the quantum supergroup U_q(osp(1|2n)) at certain even roots of unity. To construct the invariants we develop tensor product theorems for finite dimensional modules of U_q(osp(1|2n)) at roots of unity.

Higher K-groups for operator systems

Abstract:We extend our previous definition of K-theoretic invariants for operator systems based on hermitian forms to higher K-theoretical invariants. We realize the need for a positive parameter $\delta$ as a measure for the spectral gap of the representatives for the K-theory classes. For each $\delta$ and integer $p \geq 0$ this gives operator system invariants $\mathcal V_p^\delta(-,n)$, indexed by the corresponding matrix size. The corresponding direct system of these invariants has a direct limit that possesses a semigroup structure, and we define the $K_p^\delta$-groups as the corresponding Grothendieck groups. This is an invariant of unital operator systems, and, more generally, an invariant up to Morita equivalence of operator systems. Moreover, there is a formal periodicity that reduces all these groups to either $K_0^\delta$ or $K_1^\delta$. We illustrate our invariants by means of the spectral localizer.

Abstract:In this article, we revisit Weibel's conjecture for twisted $K$-theory. We also examine the vanishing of twisted negative $K$-groups for Prüfer domains. Furthermore, we observe that the homotopy invariance of twisted $K$-theory holds for (finite-dimensional) Prüfer domains.

Computing Topological Invariants Using Fixed Points

Abstract:When a torus acts on a compact oriented manifold with isolated fixed points, the equivariant localization formula of Atiyah--Bott and Berline--Vergne converts the integral of an equivariantly closed form into a finite sum over the fixed points of the action, thus providing a powerful tool for computing integrals on a manifold. An integral can also be viewed as a pushforward map from a manifold to a point, and in this guise it is intimately related to the Gysin homomorphism. This article highlights two applications of the equivariant localization formula. We show how to use it to compute characteristic numbers of a homogeneous space and to derive a formula for the Gysin map of a fiber bundle.

Geometric invariants of locally compact groups: the homotopical perspective

Abstract:We extend the classical theory of homotopical $\Sigma$-sets $\Sigma^n$ developed by Bieri, Neumann, Renz and Strebel for abstract groups, to $\Sigma$-sets $\Sigma_{\mathrm{top}}^n$ for locally compact Hausdorff groups. Given such a group $G$, our $\Sigma_{\mathrm{top}}^n(G)$ are sets of continuous homomorphisms $G \to \mathbb{R}$ ("characters"). They match the classical $\Sigma$-sets $\Sigma^n(G)$ if $G$ is discrete, and refine the homotopical compactness properties $\mathrm C_n$ of Abels and Tiemeyer. Moreover, our theory recovers the definition of $\Sigma_{\mathrm{top}}^1$ and $\Sigma_{\mathrm{top}}^2$ proposed by Kochloukova. Besides presenting various characterizations of $\Sigma_{\mathrm{top}}^n$ (particularly for $n\in \{1,2\}$), we show that characters in $\Sigma_{\mathrm{top}}^n(G)$ are also in $\Sigma_{\mathrm{top}}^n(H)$ if $H\le G$ is a closed cocompact subgroup, and we generalize several classical results. Namely, we prove that the set of nonzero elements of $\Sigma_{\mathrm{top}}^n(G)$ is open, we prove that characters in a group of type $\mathrm C_n$ that do not vanish on the center always lie in $\Sigma_{\mathrm{top}}^n(G)$, and we relate the $\Sigma$-sets of a group with those of its quotients by closed subgroups of type $\mathrm C_n$. Lastly, we describe how $\Sigma_{\mathrm{top}}^n(G)$ governs whether a closed normal subgroup with abelian quotient is of type $\mathrm C_n$, generalizing one of the highlights of the classical theory.

Abstract:We compute the first two k-invariants of the Picard spectra of $KU$ and $KO$ by analyzing their Picard groupoids and constructing their unit spectra as global sections of sheaves on the category of manifolds. This allows us to determine the E_\infty-structures of their truncations Pic(KU)[0,3] and Pic(KO)[0,2]. It follows that these truncated Picard spaces represent: the Brauer groups of Z/2-graded algebra bundles of Donovan-Karoubi, Moutuou and Maycock; the Brauer groups of super 2-lines; and the K-theory twists of Freed, Hopkins and Teleman. Our results also imply that that these spaces represent twists of String and Spin structures on manifolds and can be used to twist tmf-cohomology. Finally, we are able to identify pic(KU)[0,3] with a cotruncation of the Anderson dual of the sphere spectrum.

Abstract:As nilpotent studies in knot theory, we focus on invariants of Milnor, Orr, and Kontsevich. We show that the Orr invariant of degree $ k $ is equivalent to the tree reduction of the Kontsevich invariant of degree $< 2k $. Furthermore, we will see a close relation between the Orr invariant and the Milnor invariant, and discuss a method of computing these invariants

Abstract:Definition. Let $\kappa$ be an infinite cardinal, let {X(i)} be a (not necessarily faithfully indexed) set of topological spaces, and let X be the product of the spaces X(i). The $\kappa$-box product topology on X is the topology generated by those products of sets U(i) for which (a) for each i, U(i) is open in X(i); and (b) U(i) = X(i) with fewer than $\kappa$-many exceptions. (Thus, the usual Tychonoff product topology on X is the $\omega$-box topology.) With emphasis on weight, density character, and Souslin number, the authors study and determine the value of several "cardinal invariants" on the space X with its $\kappa$-box topology, in terms of the corresponding invariants of the individual spaces X(i). To the authors' knowledge, this work is the first systematic study of its kind. Some of the results are axiom-sensitive, and some duplicate (and extend, and make precise) earlier work of Hewitt-Marczewski-Pondiczery, of Englking-Karlowicz, of Comfort-Negrepontis, and of Cater-Erdos-Galvin.

Invariants for links and 3-manifolds from the modular category with two simple objects

Abstract:We describe the simplest non-trivial modular category $\mathfrak{E}$ with two simple objects. Then we extract from this category the invariant for non-oriented links in 3-sphere and two invariants for 3-manifolds: the complex-valued Turaev - Reshetikhin type invariant $tr_{\varepsilon}$ and the real-valued Turaev - Viro type invariant $tv_{\varepsilon}$. These two invariants for 3-manifolds are related by the equality $|tr_{\varepsilon}|^2\cdot (\varepsilon + 2) = tv_{\varepsilon}$, where $\varepsilon$ is a root of the equation $\varepsilon^2 = \varepsilon + 1$. Finally, we show that $tv_{\varepsilon}$ coincides with the well-known $\varepsilon$ invariant for 3-manifolds.

Abstract:In this paper we introduce and study the so-called continuous $K$-theory for a certain class of "large" stable $\infty$-categories, more precisely, for dualizable presentable categories. For compactly generated categories, the continuous $K$-theory is simply the usual (non-connective) $K$-theory of the full subcategory of compact objects. More generally, we show that any localizing invariant of small stable $\infty$-categories can be uniquely extended to a localizing invariant of dualizable categories.
