Abstract:In this work, we introduce topological representations of a quiver as a system consisting of topological spaces and its relationships determined by the quiver. Such a setting gives a natural connection between topological representations of a quiver and diagrams of topological spaces. Firstly, we investigate the relation between the category of topological representations and that of linear representations of a quiver via P( ) - 𝒯𝒪𝒫^o and k -Mod, concerning (positively) graded or vertex (positively) graded modules. Secondly, we discuss the homological theory of topological representations of quivers via the -limit functor lim ^ , and use it to define the homology groups of topological representations of quivers via H _n . It is found that some properties of a quiver can be read from homology groups. Thirdly, we investigate the homotopy theory of topological representations of quivers. We define the homotopy equivalence between two morphisms in Top- Rep and show that the parallel Homotopy Axiom also holds for top-representations based on the homotopy equivalence. Last, we obtain the functor At^ from Top- Rep to Top and show that At^ preserves homotopy equivalence between morphisms. The relationship between the homotopy groups of a top-representation (T, f) and the homotopy groups of At^(T,f) is also established.
On finite group global and gauged $q$-form symmetries in TQFT

Abstract:We describe a method to implement finite group global and gauged $q$-form symmetries into the axiomatic structure of $d$-dimensional Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT) in terms of bordisms decorated by cohomology classes. Namely, on a manifold with a boundary, the gauge field is considered as a class in an appropriate relative cohomology group. It is defined in a way that allows self-consistent cutting and gluing of the manifolds and involves a choice of a $(d-q-2)$-skeleton in the boundary. The method, in a sense, generalizes to arbitrary $d$ and $q$ a method that has been considered in the literature in the case of $d=3,\;q=0,1$.

A quantum ergodic theorem for mapping class groups action on character variety

Abstract:We state a theorem relating the ergodicity of the action of a given subgroup of the mapping class group of a surface on the character variety, to the asymptotic of its invariant subspaces through the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev representations. As application we give an asymptotic result on the spin decomposition arising in TQFT.

Abstract:We study finite quasi-quantum groups in their quiver setting developed recently by the first author. We obtain a classification of finite-dimensional pointed Majid algebras of finite corepresentation type, or equivalently a classification of elementary quasi-Hopf algebras of finite representation type, over the field of complex numbers. By the Tannaka-Krein duality principle, this provides a classification of the finite tensor categories in which every simple object has Frobenius-Perron dimension 1 and there are finitely many indecomposable objects up to isomorphism. Some interesting information of these finite tensor categories is given by making use of the quiver representation theory.
Tannakian QFT: from spark algebras to quantum groups

Abstract:We propose a nonperturbative construction of Hopf algebras that represent categories of line operators in topological quantum field theory, in terms of semi-extended operators (spark algebras) on pairs of transverse topological boundary conditions. The construction is a direct implementation of Tannakian formalism in QFT. Focusing on d=3 dimensional theories, we find topological definitions of R-matrices, ribbon twists, and the Drinfeld double construction for generalized quantum groups. We illustrate our construction in finite-group gauge theory, and apply it to obtain new results for B-twisted 3d $\mathcal{N}=4$ gauge theories, a.k.a. equivariant Rozansky-Witten theory, or supergroup BF theory (including ordinary BF theory with compact gauge group). We reformulate our construction mathematically in terms of abelian and dg tensor categories, and discuss connections with Koszul duality.

A trilogy of mapping class group representations from three-dimensional quantum gravity

Abstract:For a punctured surface $\mathfrak{S}$, the author and Scarinci (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2112.13329" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2112.13329">arXiv:2112.13329</a>) have recently constructed a quantization of a moduli space of Lorentzian metrics on the 3-manifold $\mathfrak{S} \times \mathbb{R}$ of constant sectional curvature $\Lambda \in \{-1,0,1\}$. The invariance of this quantization under the action of the mapping class group ${\rm MCG}(\mathfrak{S})$ of $\mathfrak{S}$ yields families of unitary representations of ${\rm MCG}(\mathfrak{S})$ on a Hilbert space, with key ingredients being three versions of the quantum dilogarithm functions depending on $\Lambda$. In this survey article, we review and elaborate on this result.

Mapping Class Groups of Simply Connected Kähler Manifolds

Abstract:This paper has 3 principal goals: (1) to survey what is know about mapping class and Torelli groups of simply connected compact Kaehler manifolds, (2) supplement these results, and (3) present a list of questions and open problems to stimulate future work. Apart from reviewing general background, the paper focuses on the case of hypersurfaces in projective space. We explain how older results of Carlson--Toledo <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="alg-geom/9708002" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/alg-geom/9708002">arXiv:alg-geom/9708002</a> and recent results of Kreck--Su <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2009.08054" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2009.08054">arXiv:2009.08054</a> imply that the homomorphism from the fundamental group of the moduli space of hypersurfaces in P^4 to the mapping class group of the underlying manifold has a very large kernel (contains a free group of rank 2) and has image of infinite index. This is in contrast to the case of curves, where the homomorphism is an isomorphism.

Arithmetic-Geometric Correspondence of Character Stacks via Topological Quantum Field Theory

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce Topological Quantum Field Theories (TQFTs) generalizing the arithmetic computations done by Hausel and Rodríguez-Villegas and the geometric construction done by Logares, Muñoz, and Newstead to study cohomological invariants of $G$-representation varieties and $G$-character stacks. We show that these TQFTs are related via a natural transformation that we call the 'arithmetic-geometric correspondence' generalizing the classical formula of Frobenius on the irreducible characters of a finite group. We use this correspondence to extract some information on the character table of finite groups using the geometric TQFT, and vice versa, we greatly simplify the geometric calculations in the case of upper triangular matrices by lifting its irreducible characters to the geometric setting.

Abstract:For a root of unity $\zeta$ of odd prime order, we restrict coefficients of non-semisimple quantum representations of mapping class groups associated with the small quantum group $\mathfrak{u}_\zeta \mathfrak{sl}_2$ from $\mathbb{Q}(\zeta)$ to $\mathbb{Z}[\zeta]$. We do this by exhibiting explicit bases of states spaces that span $\mathbb{Z}[\zeta]$-lattices that are invariant under projective actions of mapping class groups.

Abstract:We study the topological structure of the automorphism groups of compact quantum groups showing that, in parallel to a classical result due to Iwasawa, the connected component of identity of the automorphism group and of the “inner” automorphism group coincide. For compact matrix quantum groups, which can be thought of as quantum analogues of compact Lie groups, we prove that the inner automorphism group is a compact Lie group and the outer automorphism group is discrete. Applications of this to the study of group actions on compact quantum groups are highlighted. We end by providing examples of compact matrix quantum groups with infinitely-generated fusion rings, in stark contrast with the classical situation. Along the way we study the invariant theory of finite group actions on free Laurent rings and show that the rings of invariants are, in general, not finitely generated.

Cohomology of character stacks via TQFTs

Abstract:We study the cohomology of $G$-representation varieties and $G$-character stacks by means of a topological quantum field theory (TQFT). This TQFT is constructed as the composite of a so-called field theory and the 6-functor formalism of sheaves on topological stacks. We apply this framework to compute the cohomology of various $G$-representation varieties and $G$-character stacks of closed surfaces for $G = \text{SU}(2), \text{SO}(3)$ and $\text{U}(2)$. This work can be seen as a categorification of earlier work, in which such a TQFT was constructed on the level of Grothendieck groups to compute the corresponding Euler characteristics.

Abstract:We develop an equivariant theory of graphs with respect to quantum symmetries and present a detailed exposition of various examples. We portray unitary tensor categories as a unifying framework encompassing all finite classical simple graphs, (quantum) Cayley graphs of finite (quantum) groupoids, and all finite-dimensional quantum graphs. We model a quantum set by a finite-index inclusion of C*-algebras and use the quantum Fourier transform to obtain all possible adjacency operators. In particular, we show every finite-index subfactor can be regarded as a complete quantum graph and describe how to find all its subgraphs. As applications, we prove a version of Frucht's Theorem for finite quantum groupoids, and introduce a version of path spaces for quantum graphs.

Mapping class groups for 2-orbifolds

Abstract:We define orbifold mapping class groups (with marked points) and study them using their action on certain orbifold analogs of arcs and simple closed curves. Moreover, we establish a Birman exact sequence for suitable subgroups of orbifold mapping class groups. The short exact sequence allows us to deduce finite presentations of these groups. This is the basis for a similar discussion of orbifold braid groups in [6].

Abstract:We construct projective (unitary) representations of Hecke groups from the vector spaces associated with the Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev topological quantum field theory of higher genus surfaces. In particular, we generalize the modular data of Temperley-Lieb-Jones modular categories. We also study some properties of the representation. We show the image group of the representation is infinite at low levels in genus $2$ by explicit computations. We also show the representation is reducible with at least three irreducible summands when the level equals $4l+2$ for $l\geq 1$.

Abstract:Given any connected compact orientable surface, a pair of mapping classes is said to be procongruently conjugate if it induces a conjugate pair of outer automophisms on the profinite completion of the fundamental group of the surface. For example, this occurs if they induce conjugate outer automorphisms on every characteristic finite quotient of the fundamental group. In this paper, it is shown that every procongruent conjugacy class of mapping classes, as a subset of the surface mapping class group, is the disjoint union of at most finitely many conjugacy classes of mapping classes. For any pseudo-Anosov mapping class of a connected closed orientable surface, several topological features are confirmed to depend only on the procongurent conjugacy class of the mapping class, including the stretching factor, the topological type of the prong singularities, the transverse orientability of the invariant foliations, and the isomorphism type of the symplectic Floer homology.
