Abstract:In this paper, we explain how the abstract notion of a differential bundle in a tangent category provides a new way of thinking about the category of modules over a commutative ring and its opposite category. MacAdam previously showed that differential bundles in the tangent category of smooth manifolds are precisely smooth vector bundles. Here we provide characterizations of differential bundles in the tangent categories of commutative rings and (affine) schemes. For commutative rings, the category of differential bundles over a commutative ring is equivalent to the category of modules over that ring. For affine schemes, the category of differential bundles over the Spec of a commutative ring is equivalent to the opposite category of modules over said ring. Finally, for schemes, the category of differential bundles over a scheme is equivalent to the opposite category of quasi-coherent sheaves of modules over that scheme.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to explore the relationship between the "differential" methods in differential geometry and algebraic geometry, and to achieve this goal specifically through differential bundles in the theory of tangent categories. Specifically, the authors mainly focus on the specific forms of differential bundles in the tangent categories of commutative rings and (affine) schemes and their relationships with module categories in the paper. ### Main problems of the paper 1. **Relationship between differential geometry and algebraic geometry**: - Although differential geometry and algebraic geometry have many differences, they both use "differential" methods, such as tangent vectors, tangent spaces, and differentials. The paper attempts to accurately describe how these two geometries use these concepts and explore their connections and differences. 2. **Definition and properties of differential bundles**: - A differential bundle is a structure defined in a tangent category, which generalizes the smooth vector bundle on a smooth manifold. The paper explores in detail the specific forms of differential bundles in the tangent categories of commutative rings and (affine) schemes. 3. **Correspondence between differential bundles and module categories**: - The paper proves that in the tangent category of a commutative ring, the differential bundle is equivalent to the module category. - In the tangent category of an affine scheme, the differential bundle is equivalent to the dual category of the module category. - In the tangent category of a scheme, the differential bundle is equivalent to the dual category of the module category of quasi - coherent sheaves. ### Main results - **Proposition 3.11 and Theorem 3.13**: In the tangent category of a commutative ring, the differential bundle corresponds to the module, and the category of differential bundles is equivalent to the category of modules. - **Proposition 4.15 and Theorem 4.17**: In the tangent category of an affine scheme, the differential bundle corresponds to the module, and the category of differential bundles is equivalent to the dual category of the module category. - **Theorem 4.28**: In the tangent category of a scheme, the differential bundle corresponds to the module of quasi - coherent sheaves, and the category of differential bundles is equivalent to the dual category of the module category of quasi - coherent sheaves. ### Significance - These results show the diversity and importance of differential bundles in different tangent categories. - Through differential bundles, the paper provides a new way to understand module categories and their dual categories. - These results provide new tools and perspectives for further studying the bridge between differential geometry and algebraic geometry. ### Future work - The authors hope to further explore the concept of connections on differential bundles in future work and apply it to the existing connection concepts in algebraic geometry. - They also plan to continue using these ideas to bridge the gap between differential geometry and algebraic geometry. In conclusion, this paper provides a new perspective on the relationship between differential geometry and algebraic geometry through differential bundles in tangent categories and reveals the deep - level connections of the "differential" methods in these geometries.
