Abstract:We show that unary log-analytic functions are polynomially bounded. In the higher dimensional case globally a log-analytic function can have exponential growth. We show that a log-analytic function is polynomially bounded on a definable set which contains the germ of every ray at infinity.

Abstract:Given a model of the theory of the real field with restricted analytic functions such that its value group has finite archimedean rank we show how one can extend the restricted logarithm to a global logarithm with values in the polynomial ring over the model with dimension the archimedean rank. The logarithms are determined by algebraic data from the model, namely by a section of the model and by an embedding of the value group into its Hahn group. If the archimedean rank of the value group coincides with the rational rank the logarithms are equivalent. We illustrate how one can embed such a logarithm into a model of the real field with restricted analytic functions and exponentiation. This allows us to define constructible functions with good lifting properties. As an application we establish a Lebesgue measure and integration theory with values in the polynomial ring, extending and strengthening the construction in [T. Kaiser: Lebesgue measure and integration theory on non-archimedean real closed fields with archimedean value group. Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. 116 (2018), no. 2, 209-247.].

Abstract:We obtain Wiman-Valiron type inequalities for random entire functions and for random analytic functions on the unit disk that improve a classical result of Erdős and Rényi and recent results of Kuryliak and Skaskiv. Our results are then applied to linear dynamics: we obtain rates of growth, outside some exceptional set, for analytic functions that are frequently hypercyclic for an arbitrary chaotic weighted backward shift.

Abstract:For every algebraic number $\kappa$ on the unit circle which is not a root of unity we prove the existence of a strict sequence of algebraic numbers whose height tends to zero, such that the averages of the evaluation of $f_\kappa(z)=\log|z -\kappa|$ in the conjugates are essentially bounded from above by $-h(\kappa)$. This completes a characterisation on functions $f_\kappa$ initiated by Autissier and Baker-Masser, who cover the cases $\kappa=2$ and $|\kappa|\ne 1$ respectively. Using the same ideas we also prove analogues in the $p$-adic setting.

Abstract:We give a survey of results on zero distribution and factorization of analytic functions in the unit disc in classes defined by the growth of $\log|f(re^{i\theta})|$ in the uniform and integral metrics. We restrict ourself by the case of finite order of growth. For a Blaschke product $B$ we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniform boundedness of all $p$-means of $\log|B(re^{i\theta})|$, where $p>1$.

Abstract:Journal of Topology and Analysis, Ahead of Print. In geometry group theory, one of the milestones is Gromov's polynomial growth theorem: Finitely generated groups have polynomial growth if and only if they are virtually nilpotent. Inspired by Gromov's work, we introduce the growth types of weighted Hardy spaces. In this paper, we focus on the weighted Hardy spaces of polynomial growth, which cover the classical Hardy space, weighted Bergman spaces, weighted Dirichlet spaces and much broader. Our main results are as follows. [math] We obtain the boundedness of the composition operators with symbols of analytic automorphisms of unit open disk acting on weighted Hardy spaces of polynomial growth, which implies the multiplication operator [math] is similar to [math] for any analytic automorphism [math] on the unit open disk. Moreover, we obtain the boundedness of composition operators induced by analytic functions on the unit closed disk on weighted Hardy spaces of polynomial growth. [math] For any Blaschke product [math] of order [math], [math] is similar to [math], which is an affirmative answer to a generalized version of a question proposed by Douglas in 2007. [math] We also give counterexamples to show that the composition operators with symbols of analytic automorphisms of unit open disk acting on a weighted Hardy space of intermediate growth could be unbounded, which indicates the necessity of the setting of polynomial growth condition. Then, the collection of weighted Hardy spaces of polynomial growth is almost the largest class such that Douglas's question has an affirmative answer. [math] Finally, we give the Jordan representation theorem and similarity classification for the analytic functions on the unit closed disk as multiplication operators on a weighted Hardy space of polynomial growth.

Abstract:In this article we describe the construction of logarithmic models for germs of plane singular analytic foliations, both real and complex. A logarithmic model is a germ of closed meromorphic 1-form with simple poles produced upon some specified geometric data: the structure of dicritical (non-invariant) components in the exceptional divisor of its reduction of singularities, a prescribed finite set of separatrices - invariant analytic branches at the origin - and Camacho-Sad indices with respect to these separatrices. As an application, we use logarithmic models in order to construct real and complex germs of meromorphic functions with a given indeterminacy structure and prescribed sets of zeroes and poles. Also, in the real case, logarithmic models are used in order to build germs of analytic vector fields with a given Bendixson's sectorial decomposition of a neighborhood of $0 \in \mathbb{R}^{2}$ into hyperbolic, parabolic and elliptic sectors. This is carried out in the specific case where all trajectories accumulating to the origin are contained in analytic curves. As a consequence, we can produce real meromorphic functions with a prescribed sectorial decomposition.

Abstract:In the present paper, we develop geometric analysis techniques on Cayley graphs of finitely generated abelian groups to study the polynomial growth harmonic functions. We provide a geometric analysis proof of the classical Heilbronn theorem (Heilbronn in Proc Camb Philos Soc 45:194–206, 1949 ) and the recent Nayar theorem (Nayar in Bull Pol Acad Sci Math 57:231–242, 2009 ) on polynomial growth harmonic functions on lattices ℤ ^n that does not use a representation formula for harmonic functions. In the abelian group case, by Yau’s gradient estimate, we actually give a simplified proof of a general polynomial growth harmonic function theorem of (Alexopoulos in Ann Probab 30:723–801, 2002 ). We calculate the precise dimension of the space of polynomial growth harmonic functions on finitely generated abelian groups by linear algebra, rather than by Floquet theory Kuchment and Pinchover (Trans Am Math Soc 359:5777–5815, 2007 ). While the Cayley graph not only depends on the abelian group, but also on the choice of a generating set, we find that this dimension depends only on the group itself. Moreover, we also calculate the dimension of solutions to higher order Laplace operators.

Abstract:In math.AC/9608214 it was shown that fields of generalized power series cannot admit an exponential function. In this paper, we construct fields of generalized power series with bounded support which admit an exponential. We give a natural definition of an exponential, which makes these fields into models of real exponentiation. The method allows to construct for every kappa regular uncountable cardinal, 2^{kappa} pairwise non-isomorphic models of real exponentiation (of cardinality kappa), but all isomorphic as ordered fields. Indeed, the 2^{kappa} exponentials constructed have pairwise distinct growth rates. This method relies on constructing lexicographic chains with many automorphisms.

Abstract:We introduce the class of \emph{Log-Noetherian} (LN) functions. These are holomorphic solutions to algebraic differential equations (in several variables) with logarithmic singularities. We prove an upper bound on the number of solutions for systems of LN equations, resolving in particular Khovanskii's conjecture for Noetherian functions. Consequently, we show that the structure ${\mathbb R}_\text{LN}$ generated by LN-functions, as well as its expansion ${\mathbb R}_\text{LN,exp}$, are effectively o-minimal: definable sets in these structures admit effective bounds on their complexity in terms of the complexity of the defining formulas. We show that ${\mathbb R}_\text{LN,exp}$ contains the horizontal sections of regular flat connections with quasiunipotent monodromy over algebraic varieties. It therefore contains the universal covers of Shimura varieties and period maps of polarized variations of $\mathbb Z$-Hodge structures. We also give an effective Pila-Wilkie theorem for ${\mathbb R}_\text{LN,exp}$-definable sets. Thus ${\mathbb R}_\text{LN,exp}$ can be used as an effective variant of ${\mathbb R}_\text{an,exp}$ in the various applications of o-minimality to arithmetic geometry and Hodge theory.

On real analytic functions on closed subanalytic domains

Abstract:We show that a function $f : X \to \mathbb R$ defined on a closed uniformly polynomially cuspidal set $X$ in $\mathbb R^n$ is real analytic if and only if $f$ is smooth and all its composites with germs of polynomial curves in $X$ are real analytic. The degree of the polynomial curves needed for this is effectively related to the regularity of the boundary of $X$. For instance, if the boundary of $X$ is locally Lipschitz, then polynomial curves of degree $2$ suffice. In this Lipschitz case, we also prove that a function $f : X \to \mathbb R$ is real analytic if and only if all its composites with germs of quadratic polynomial maps in two variables with images in $X$ are real analytic; here it is not necessary to assume that $f$ is smooth.

Abstract:Let $k$ be a discretely valued non-Archimedean field. We give an explicit description of analytic functions whose norm is bounded by a given real number $r$ on tubes of reduced $k$-analytic spaces associated to special formal schemes (those include $k$-affinoid spaces as well as open polydiscs). As an application we study the connectedness of these tubes. This generalizes (in the discretely valued case) a result of Siegfried Bosch. We use as a main tool a result of A.J. de Jong relating formal and analytic functions on special formal schemes and a generalization of de Jong's result which is proved in the joint appendix with Christian Kappen.

Abstract:We derive asymptotic formulae for the coefficients of bivariate generating functions with algebraic and logarithmic factors. Logarithms appear when encoding cycles of combinatorial objects, and also implicitly when objects can be broken into indecomposable parts. Asymptotics are quickly computable and can verify combinatorial properties of sequences and assist in randomly generating objects. While multiple approaches for algebraic asymptotics have recently emerged, we find that the contour manipulation approach can be extended to these D-finite generating functions.

Abstract:We consider a sequence $(p_n)_{n=1}^\infty$ of polynomials with uniformly bounded zeros and $°p_1\geq 1$, $°p_n\geq 2$ for $n\geq 2$, satisfying certain asymptotic conditions. We prove that the function sequence $\left(\frac{1}{°p_n\cdot...\cdot °p_1}\log^+|p_n\circ...\circ p_1|\right)_{n=1}^\infty$ is uniformly convergent in $\mathbb{C}$. The non-autonomous filled Julia set $\mathcal{K}[(p_{n})_{n=1}^\infty]$ generated by the polynomial sequence $(p_{n})_{n=1}^\infty$ is defined and shown to be compact and regular with respect to the Green function. Our toy example is generated by $t_n=\frac{1}{2^{n-1}}T_n,\ n\in\{1,2,...\}$, where $T_n$ is the classical Chebyshev polynomial of degree $n$.
