Abstract:Dance training has developed eclectically to serve the different approaches to dance performance and making; however, there is a discrepancy between the physiological demands of training and dance performance. It is no longer acceptable to train dancers without due regard for physiological concerns if they are to be prepared appropriately to meet the demands of current choreographic work. Research over the last two decades has examined the physical fitness status of professional and student dancers’, but there is still debate about how fit dancers should be. There is a discrepancy in the physical intensity level between training, rehearsal, and performance, and the idea of supplementary fitness training has been debated, albeit untested longitudinally with large groups of dancers. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a one-year dance specific fitness program on undergraduate contemporary dance students undertaking full-time vocational training and to observe any impact the findings may make upon dance pedagogic practices. Results from the pre- and post-screening assessments show that, following the intervention, there was a significant decrease (p<0.05) in mean heart rates across all five stages of the Dance Aerobic Fitness Test (DAFT), indicating improvement in the dancers’ aerobic capabilities. Findings impacted upon the school curriculum, in that the timetable now comprises weekly fitness classes.

Strength and conditioning in dance: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:To assess the evidence for the effect of strength and conditioning on physical qualities and aesthetic competence in dance populations, three electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus) were searched (until September 2022) for studies that met the following criteria: (i) dancers aged >16 years; (ii) structured strength and conditioning intervention; and (iii) with physical qualities and aesthetic competence as outcome measures. Methodological quality and risk of bias of the included studies were assessed through the systematic review tool "QualSyst". Meta-analyses of effect sizes (Hedges' g) with forest plots explored the effects of the strength and conditioning interventions. Thirty-six studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. Meta-analysis indicated strength and conditioning significantly (p < 0.05) improved lower body power (g = 0.90, 95% CI: 0.53-1.27), upper body strength (g = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.39-1.57), lower body strength (g = 1.59, 95% CI: 0.97-2.22), and flexibility (g = 0.86, 95% CI: 0.05-1.66). Strength and conditioning interventions were found to be effective at improving physical qualities in dancers, recommending their participation in additional sessions to enhance overall fitness and ultimately dance performance. It is recommended that future strength and conditioning intervention research should include sample size calculations, with participants recruited from a specific dance genre and skill level in order to evaluate how strength and conditioning influences dance performance.
Relationship Between Performance Competence and Cardiorespiratory Fitness in Contemporary Dance

Abstract:Aims: While a foundation of basic cardiorespiratory fitness is beneficial for coping with the physiological demands of dance training and performance, the extent to which cardiorespiratory fitness levels are related to performance ability is not all-together clear. This study aimed to directly compare aerobic capacity (VO2peak) and anaerobic threshold (AT) to an aesthetic competence measure (ACM) in student contemporary dancers. Methods: Participants were 18 contemporary dance students and all undertook a one-off treadmill test to volitional exhaustion in the week leading up to a performance to determine VO2peak and AT. In the same week, a final rehearsal for the performance was filmed to allow retrospective analysis of specific performance competence. Results: Mean VO2peak values of 47.67 ± 5.84 ml/kg/min and AT values of 43.18 ± 7.72 ml/kg/min (90.68 ± 11.87 %VO2peak) were recorded, and the mean total ACM score was 52.67 ± 8.74. No significant correlations were found between cardiorespiratory fitness variables and ACM scores. Regression analyses revealed experience level to be the only significant predictor of total ACM score (p<0.05, R2=0.12, SEE=11.91). Conclusions: The range of choreography used for assessment may limit the present study; nevertheless, as level of experience did significantly predict ACM total score, it is suggested that vocational dance training may be developing the performance and technical skills of students but not sufficiently developing their physical conditioning.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Introduction: Ballroom dance has evolved from a simple self-taught part of folklore to a technical, performative, and artistic competitive dance called the International Standard Dance. Objective: Study the effects of special lower limb strength training on the physical stability of dancers. Methods: 20 volunteers, students of a university specialized in dance, were divided into experimental and control groups, undergoing training of 30 minutes daily, 3 times a week, for 3 months. The control group followed the daily training, while the experimental group received special lower limb strength training. The relevant physical data measured before and after the intervention were statistically analyzed. Results: Compared to the control group, there was a significant difference in the athletes of the experimental group (P<0.05). The experimental group's lower limb strength and special skills were significantly improved. Conclusion: The lower extremity strength training protocol significantly improved the dancers’ muscle strength, proportionally increasing the stability of the sports skills. Abstract:Background and purpose In rhythmic gymnastics, a wide variety of musical works are used to accompany competition programs, so the use of dance fitness equipment becomes especially relevant. Purpose: application of the technique of combining children's and dance fitness in the educational and training process of gymnasts at the initial stage of training. Material and methods 12 athletes aged 6-7 years (girls) who train at the in rhythmic gymnastics of the Dnipro City Council, Dnipro. All participants and their parents agreed to participate in the experiment. The experiment was carried out from October 2022 to April 2023. analysis of literary sources, testing of physical fitness (jumping rope for 15 s, torso tilt forward from a sitting position, test "Bridge", mobility in ankle joint, shuttle run 2x10, torso lift in a sit for 30 s, test "Snake run", test "Three rolls forward"), methods of mathematical statistics. Results The exercises with elements of children's fitness, dance combinations and steps of Kid's Plastic Art and dance directions Zumba, Hip-Hop Body ballet, Afro Jazz, Latin aerobics in combination with the program of sports training of young gymnasts of the initial stage of training were developed and implemented in the training process. It was found that after the research the sportswomen of both groups confirmed statistically significant improvement of indicators of tests (p<0.05; p<0.01; p<0.001), at carrying out of intergroup comparison of results at the end of the research it was found in the experimental group indicators of tests are significantly higher in comparison with sportswomen of the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions The introduction of means of children's and dance fitness into the training process of young gymnasts has a positive influence on physical fitness and emotional state of sportswomen of 6-7 years old.

Abstract:Background and Study Aim. To determine the influence of professional training disciplines on the physical fitness level of the folk dance department students. Material and Methods. The study involved students majoring in "Choreography" (males - n = 5; females - n = 10). Tests were used to determine the level of general and special physical qualities development. It was also determined the level of physical fitness at the beginning of training and after two years of training. Results. At the beginning of the study, students had average and low rates of speed and strength qualities development and low indicators of dorsal spine mobility. There were significant changes in increasing the level of coordination and dorsal spine mobility (p <0.01). The increase in average statistical indicators of strength endurance is in males (p <0.05) and females (p <0.01). It was revealed the decrease in the level of certain indicators of general physical fitness in females during the first two years of study. Conclusions. It is recommended to constantly monitor the physical fitness of future choreographers. The exclusion of the discipline "Physical Education" from the training programs for choreography teachers requires appropriate compensation for specific physical activity. These can be students’ independent physical training. It also requires the correction of special training programs that include physical activity.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: Dancesport, the competitive branch of ballroom dancing, places high physiological and psychological demands on its practitioners, but pedagogical resources in these areas for this dance form are limited. Dancesport competitors could benefit from strategies used in other aesthetic sports. In this review, we identify conditioning methodologies from gymnastics, figure skating, and contemporary, modern, and ballet dance forms that could have relevance and suitability for dancesport training, and propose several strategies for inclusion in the current dancesport curriculum. METHODS: We reviewed articles derived from Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis Online, and Web of Science search engines and databases, with publication dates from 1979 to 2013. The keywords included MeSH terms: dancing, gymnastics, physiology, energy metabolism, physical endurance, and range of motion. Out of 47 papers examined, 41 papers met the inclusion criteria (validity of scientific methods, topic relevance, transferability to dancesport, publication date). Quality and validity of the data were assessed by examining the methodologies in each study and comparing studies on similar populations as well as across time using the PRISMA 2009 checklist and flowchart. RESULTS: The relevant research suggests that macro-cycle periodization planning, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, range of motion and muscular endurance training, and performance psychology methods have potential for adaptation for dancesport training. CONCLUSIONS: Dancesport coaches may help their students fulfill their ambitions as competitive athletes and dance artists by adapting the relevant performance enhancement strategies from gymnastics, figure skating, and concert dance forms presented in this paper.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Introduction The dancers must have the necessary strength qualities to complete the dance movement techniques and coordinate the body movements, besides giving full capacity of execution to the qualities such as muscular strength, explosive power, and control in accelerated movement. Objective Verify the main muscular morphology of the lower limbs of sports dancers. Methods 24 undergraduate students were selected from a sports school of a university, specialized in sports dance, and divided into three groups for a physical fitness experiment. Results Different training pressures responded with different effects on the thickness of major lower limb muscles. Compared to the thickness of the rectus femoris in the resting state before the experiment, muscle thickness immediately after exercise was significantly increased in the 250 and 300 groups (P<0.05). Conclusion Training at a moderate pressure level - pressure value of 200 mmHg to 250 mmHg - can achieve better results. The presented protocol resulted in a functional improvement of the skeletal muscle. Level of evidence II; Therapeutic studies - investigation of treatment outcomes.

Abstract:This study aimed to explore the effect of dance training on children's physical fitness level by providing 6- to 12-year-old children with 6-month dance training and regular physical training. Using diversified research methods, including literature review, comparative analysis, experimental method, observation, measurement, questionnaire and interview, this study assessed the physical fitness indexes and psychosocial abilities of children in the experimental and control groups. The results showed that children who participated in dance training significantly outperformed the control group in physical fitness indicators such as lung capacity, flexibility and balance. In addition, dance training significantly improved children's self-confidence, social interaction skills, and emotional stability. The study highlights the importance of incorporating dance training into the children's education system and provides a reference for optimizing dance education strategies in the future.

Abstract:Objective: To determine the effects of exercise training on physical fitness parameters among gymnasts. Methods: From 20 Dec 2022 to finish on 31 July 2023, an elaborate search was performed with these electronic databases (SCOPUS, PubMed, Science direct, ERIC) as well as on other sources of grey literature. The included studies were assessed using PEDRO Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale. Studies that are based on experimental design were only included to assess the physical fitness components in gymnastic players. Results: Eight articles on exercise training in gymnast met all the inclusion criteria. Fair standard of quality of studies were noted. The findings of the research were quite credible. It indicated that jumps (n=6) of various types like vertical jump, countermovement jumps and drop jumps which were the most investigated performance parameter in gymnasts, followed by trunk muscle endurance (n=2), agility (n=1) and apparatus specific performances (n=1). Most of the physical training improved the lower limb power and trunk endurance in the gymnast. While there is a lack of evidence about strength, flexibility and balance parameters, which are of utmost importance for a gymnast hence the need to be studied. Conclusion: With this systematic review we are trying to know what form of training is most beneficial for the gymnasts and it also established a strong case for the additional advantageous effects of physical training on physical fitness in gymnasts in particular.

Abstract:ABSTRACT Introduction: Physical fitness is the athletic ability to perform physical activities safely, avoiding the risk of injuries or performance-related complications on the field. CrossFit has been an effective training method for its natural movements and integration of aerobic and anaerobic exercises. It is believed that these characteristics may benefit the physical fitness of aerobic gym athletes. Objective: Evaluate the effects of CrossFit training on the physical fitness of aerobic gymnastics athletes. Methods: A controlled experimental study involving 24 aerobic gymnastics athletes was run for 9 weeks. The athletes were divided into an experimental group with CrossFit-based training, the control group received no additional training intervention. The indices of physical fitness, motor function, and movement performance were analyzed before and after the intervention. The results of the statistical analyses were discussed. Results: Considerable variation was obtained in fitness indices in distinct groups of muscle activities: in abdominal crunches from 37.66±6.12 to 50.11±3.01; medical ball lateral throw from 8.04±1.00 to 10.80±2.21; lateral bridge from 72.60±11.40 to 113.69±14.47; the flexion in sitting position from 22.52±2.51 to 26.46±1.33; and rope climbing from 32.32±7.28 to 25.97±7.08. In functional terms, the movement response time to music was optimized from 15.38±0.36 to 13.08±0.21; and the movement performance score was increased from 72.56±2.25 to 80.91±1.02. There were no significant changes in the control group. Conclusion: CrossFit training was shown to improve the physical conditioning of aerobic gym athletes and the functional movement performance of its practitioners. Abstract:A complex-coordinating and technical-aesthetic type of sport - sports dance requires high-quality mastering of a wide arsenal of technical elements during the educational and training process and competitive activities. The article is devoted to the issue of improving the level of physical fitness of athletes aged 10-12 in sports dance due to the use of acrobatics during the educational and training process. The purpose of the study is to experimentally substantiate the effect of acrobatics on the level of physical fitness of sportsmen aged 10-12 years in sports dance. In the course of the pedagogical experiment, the main and control groups were created. Boys and girls aged 10-12 were involved in the study, respectively 20 athletes in each group. The control group - 10 sports couples (n = 20) practiced according to the traditional method of the educational and training process; the main group - 10 sports couples (n = 20), in which the use of acrobatics was introduced into the educational and training process. In the course of the study, the peculiarities of the application of the content of acrobatics in the educational and training process of sports dance athletes of the main group were determined. Statistically significant changes in the level of physical fitness at the end of the study among athletes of the main group of sports dance aged 10-12 years are a confirmation of the effectiveness of the use of acrobatics.
Preventing eating pathology among elite adolescent ballet dancers: a pilot trial of the Athlete Body Project

Abstract:Adolescent ballet dancers are commonly recognized as aesthetic athletes who are at higher risk for body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, and eating disorders. Although athletic participation can generally protect against negative mental and physical health outcomes, idealization of a body ideal specific to ballet can confer unique vulnerability for eating pathology. Despite this known vulnerability, rigorous efforts to prevent eating pathology among young dancers are lacking. Previously, we reported on a trial of the Female Athlete Body Project adapted for professional female ballet dancers. The current study tested a subsequent adaptation, the Athlete Body Project (ABP), tailored for younger dancers, including a version for boys. This non-randomized, uncontrolled pilot trial tested ABP among boys and girls in two elite ballet schools ( N = 23), formatted in-person and via video-conferencing. Program delivery met benchmarks for feasibility and acceptability across gender and delivery formats, and dancers provided positive qualitative feedback. Overall results suggest the potential of ABP in intervening on pre-post eating pathology and body appreciation, and significantly decreasing drive for muscularity among young ballet dancers. Taken together, this pilot work addresses a gap in the field and advances the needed development of eating disorder prevention programming for young, high-risk aesthetic athletes.

The effects of aerobic gymnastics training on performance-related variables in an elite athlete: a 2-year follow-up study

Abstract:This study investigates individual performance adaptations on 2 years of training between European Aerobics Championships. An elite, 22-year-old aerobic gymnast performed postural coordination test, Y-Balance test, squat and countermovement jumps, 60 s test of repeated jumps, an isokinetic leg muscle strength test, and the Wingate test. Postural stability and flexibility improved in terms of increased distance achieved in the Y-Balance test in the anterior (by 6.3%), posteromedial (by 2%), and posterolateral (by 4.8%) directions. Lower limb muscular endurance also increased, which can be corroborated by a reduced fatigue index in the 60 s test of repeated jumps (from 42% to 27% after the 1 st and to 22% after the 2 nd year of training). In addition, mean power increased during dominant (by 23.2% at 60°/s and by 18.5% at 180°/s) and non-dominant leg extension (by 4.9% at 180°/s and by 15.5% at 300°/s), plus dominant leg flexion (by 2.0% at 60°/s and by 6.9% at 300°/s). Similarly, peak torque/body weight ratio increased during dominant (by 24.9% at 60°/s, by 11.5% at 180°/s, and by 2.1% at 300°/s) and non-dominant leg extension (by 0.5% at 60°/s and by 6.4% at 300°/s), plus dominant leg flexion (by 1.7% at 60°/s and by 5.4% at 300°/s). However, 2 years of training failed to show any significant improvements in the explosive power of lower limbs and anaerobic performance. These findings indicate that general aerobic gymnastics training without any specific inputs leads to performance adaptation, namely, in abilities closely related to competition routine (dynamic balance and strength endurance of lower limbs).

Abstract:ABSTRACT Introduction: The physical education curriculum aims to improve the level of students, benefiting the development of physical and mental health. Currently, the original physical education curriculum does not meet the specific requirements of today's students and needs to undergo a new stage of restructuring in its development. Objective: Analyze the impacts of gymnastics training on the physical fitness of female college students. Methods: We selected 86 female college students who chose the gymnastics elective course. The volunteers were divided into an experimental (n=43) and a control group (n=43). While the control performed basic training, the experimental group performed aerobics training according to an established protocol. The experiment, 60 minutes daily, was performed twice a week for 18 weeks. Data related to body composition and functional physical performance were collected before and after the intervention, and a comparative analysis was performed with statistical software. Results: The experimental group showed considerable gains; body fat ratio decreased from 27.99 to 26.25; vital capacity increased by 15.13%, and maximum strength performance in one minute increased by 15.02%. Conclusion: According to the results presented, gymnastics training significantly improved female college students’ physical fitness. Its constant exercise also has the potential to improve the muscle tone of the pelvic girdle and abdomen. Level of evidence II; Therapeutic studies - investigation of treatment results.

Cranial Neuropathy in Neurosarcoidosis

Abstract:Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease. Its neurologic manifestations usually occur as a part of the spectrum of the systemic disorder. Cranial neuropathy is a common manifestation of neurosarcoidosis, occurring in as many as 75% of patients .'>Most patients have more than one cranial neuropathy. The cranial nerve most often involved is the facial nerve. The VIIIth cranial nerve is involved in 10 to 20% of cases.s ' The case presented here is that of a 44-year-old black man with mild bilateral sensorineural hearing loss who had been monitored for several years. Coronal -section (figure 1) and axial-section (figure 2) magnetic reson ance imaging (MRI) examinations of the brain had revealed \ symmetrical enhancing lesions that involved the internal acoustic canals and the trigeminal nerves . These findings suggested the presence of schwannomas and led to a presumptive diagnosis of neurofibromatosis type II. The patient also developed progressively worsening low back pain and experienced difficulty walking secondary to myelopathy and peripheral neuropathy. Further evaluation of the spine by MRI revealed the presence of a spaceoccupying lesion at the level of the conus medullaris and involvement of the leptomeninges in the thoracic and cervical areas . Biopsy analysis identified a granulomatous process that was consistent with sarcoidosis involv ing the distal spinal cord and leptomeninges.
Impact of DanceSport on General Fitness from the Perspective of Chinese Athletes

Abstract:Energy metabolism and motion are the essence of dance. Scientific training of athletes involves theoretical guidance in terms of fitness, talent-based selection, and high-performance practice. However, limited research work is carried out on the physiological strain of DanceSport competitions. Therefore, proper channel needs to be established for aerobic-based exercise on participant's performance and general fitness. Competition simulation is used to collect personal data from real-time experimentations. Database gathers athlete information based on age, gender, and performance. Furthermore, results are obtained from experiment, record, and simulation in comparison to evaluate athlete performance. Main purpose of this article is to discover the characteristics of DanceSport from the perspectives of energetics in 32 domestic elite. Finally, World DanceSport Federation Judging System 2.1 "WFJS2.1" strategy is utilized for international game challenges.
