Abstract:We consider differential forms associated to Campana's geometric orbifolds from a new perspective, namely, as a qfh-sheaf on the variety underlying the geometric orbifold. This approach avoids having to choose a covering of the underlying variety, which is one of the drawbacks of a common way to work with these differential forms.

Abstract:In this paper, we first establish an L-2-type Dolbeault isomorphism for logarithmic differential forms by Hrmander's L-2 estimates. By using this isomorphism and the construction of smooth Hermitian metrics, we obtain a number of new vanishing theorems for sheaves of logarithmic differential forms on compact Kahler manifolds with simple normal crossing divisors, which generalize several classical vanishing theorems, including Norimatsu's vanishing theorem, Girbau's vanishing theorem, Le Potier's vanishing theorem, and a version of the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem.

Abstract:This paper studies several notions of sheaves of differential forms that are better behaved on singular varieties than Kähler differentials. Our main focus lies on varieties that are defined over fields of positive characteristic. We identify two promising notions: the sheafification with respect to the cdh-topology, and right Kan extension from the subcategory of smooth varieties to the category of all varieties. Our main results are that both are cdh-sheaves and agree with Kähler differentials on smooth varieties. They agree on all varieties under weak resolution of singularities. A number of examples highlight the difficulties that arise with torsion forms and with alternative candiates.

Abstract:We propose a sheaf-theoretic approach to the theory of differential calculi on quantum principal bundles over non-affine bases. After recalling the affine case we define differential calculi on sheaves of comodule algebras as sheaves of covariant bimodules together with a morphism of sheaves -the differential- such that the Leibniz rule and surjectivity hold locally. The main class of examples is given by covariant calculi over quantum flag manifolds, which we provide via an explicit Ore extension construction. In a second step we introduce principal covariant calculi by requiring a local compatibility of the calculi on the total sheaf, base sheaf and the structure Hopf algebra in terms of exact sequences. In this case Hopf–Galois extensions of algebras lift to Hopf–Galois extensions of exterior algebras with compatible differentials. In particular, the examples of principal (covariant) calculi on the quantum principal bundles and over the projective space are discussed in detail.

Differential Cohomology as Diffeological Homotopy Theory

Abstract:Thin homotopies, introduced by Caetano-Picken, serve to axiomatize the holonomy of connections on principal bundles. This approach has been generalized to higher non-abelian bundles with connection through transport functors and higher holonomies, at least in dimension two and partially in dimension three. In this thesis, we introduce a new variant of thin homotopy based on the definition of skeletal diffeologies introduced recently by Kihara and show that, in the abelian setting, ordinary differential cohomology can be completely recovered in terms of the homotopy theory of skeletal diffeological spaces. Specifically, to any smooth manifold and non-negative integer $k$, we associate a $k$-skeletal simplicial presheaf such that its $k$th cohomology with values in the circle group is isomorphic to the abelian group of Cheeger-Simons differential characters. Further, we relate these higher holonomies to the only other existing model in the literature, developed by Gajer based on the geometric loop group. The main motivation for us is to provide a model where the differential refinement is established by refining the underlying space, rather than the coefficient object. This has the advantage of possible generalizations to non-abelian differential cohomology.

The Adams differentials on the classes $h_j^3$

Abstract:In filtration 1 of the Adams spectral sequence, using secondary cohomology operations, Adams computed the differentials on the classes $h_j$, resolving the Hopf invariant one problem. In Adams filtration 2, using equivariant and chromatic homotopy theory, Hill--Hopkins--Ravenel proved that the classes $h_j^2$ support non-trivial differentials for $j \geq 7$, resolving the celebrated Kervaire invariant one problem. The precise differentials on the classes $h_j^2$ for $j \geq 7$ and the fate of $h_6^2$ remains unknown. In this paper, in Adams filtration 3, we prove an infinite family of non-trivial $d_4$-differentials on the classes $h_j^3$ for $j \geq 6$, confirming a conjecture of Mahowald. Our proof uses two different deformations of stable homotopy theory -- $\mathbb{C}$-motivic stable homotopy theory and $\mathbb{F}_2$-synthetic homotopy theory -- both in an essential way. Along the way, we also show that $h_j^2$ survives to the Adams $E_5$-page and that $h_6^2$ survives to the Adams $E_9$-page.

Abstract:The notion of double Lie algebroid was defined by M. Van den Bergh and was illustrated by the double quasi Poisson case. We give new examples of double Lie algebroids and develop a differential calculus in that context. We recover the non commutative de Rham complex and the double Poisson-Lichnerowicz cohomology (Pichereau-vanWeyer) as particular cases of our construction.

Abstract:In this note we highlight a common origin for many ubiquitous geometric structures, as well as several new ones by using only the functors of differential calculus in A.M Vinogradov's original sense, adapted to special classes of (graded) commutative algebras. Special attention is given to the particularly simple cases of diole and triole algebras and we show the latter environment is the appropriate one to describe calculus in vector bundles in the presence of a vector-valued fiber metric.

Abstract:Motivated by classical Alexander invariants of affine hypersurface complements, we endow certain finite dimensional quotients of the homology of abelian covers of complex algebraic varieties with a canonical and functorial mixed Hodge structure (MHS). More precisely, we focus on covers which arise algebraically in the following way: if $U$ is a smooth connected complex algebraic variety and $G$ is a complex semiabelian variety, the pullback of the exponential map by an algebraic morphism $f:U\to G$ yields a covering space $\pi:U^f\to U$ whose group of deck transformations is $\pi_1(G)$. The new MHSs are compatible with Deligne's MHS on the homology of $U$ through the covering map $\pi$ and satisfy a direct sum decomposition as MHSs into generalized eigenspaces by the action of deck transformations. This provides a vast generalization of the previous results regarding univariable Alexander modules by Geske, Maxim, Wang and the authors. Lastly, we reduce the problem of whether the first Betti number of the Milnor fiber of a central hyperplane arrangement complement is combinatorial to a question about the Hodge filtration of certain MHSs defined in this paper, providing evidence that the new structures contain interesting information.

Noncommutative differential geometry on crossed product algebras

Abstract:We provide a differential structure on arbitrary cleft extensions $B:=A^{\mathrm{co}H}\subseteq A$ for an $H$-comodule algebra $A$. This is achieved by constructing a covariant calculus on the corresponding crossed product algebra $B\#_\sigma H$ from the data of a bicovariant calculus on the structure Hopf algebra $H$ and a calculus on the base algebra $B$, which is compatible with the $2$-cocycle and measure of the crossed product. The result is a quantum principal bundle with canonical strong connection and we describe the induced bimodule covariant derivatives on associated bundles of the crossed product. It is proven that connections of the quantum principal bundle are in bijection with connection $1$-forms. All results specialize to trivial extensions and smash product algebras $B\#H$ and we give a characterization of the smash product calculus in terms of the differentials of the cleaving map $j\colon H\to A$ and the inclusion $B\hookrightarrow A$. The construction is exemplified for pointed Hopf algebras. In particular, the case of Radford Hopf algebras $H_{(r,n,q)}$ is spelled out in detail.

More Differential Operators on Almost Hermitian Manifolds

Abstract:In 1980 Michelsohn defined a differential operator on sections of the complex Clifford bundle over a compact Kähler manifold M . This operator is a differential and its Laplacian agrees with the Laplacian of the Dolbeault operator on forms through a natural identification of differential forms with sections of the Clifford bundle. Relaxing the condition that M be Kähler, we introduce two differential operators on sections of the complex Clifford bundle over a compact almost Hermitian manifold which naturally generalize the one introduced by Michelsohn. We show surprising Kähler-like symmetries of the kernel of the Laplacians of these operators in the almost Hermitian and almost Kähler settings, along with a correspondence of these operators to operators on forms which are of present interest in almost complex geometry.

Tanisaki witness relations for harmonic differential forms

Abstract:Inspired by a series of conjectures related to higher coinvariant algebras, we present two families of relations involving harmonic differential forms of the symmetric group. Our relations, together with a novel bijection, are sufficient to give a filtration of the $1$-forms suggested by work of Haglund--Rhoades--Shimozono with composition factors given by Tanisaki quotients. These are "almost all" of the necessary relations in a certain asymptotic sense we make precise.

Abstract:Many important theorems in differential topology relate properties of manifolds to properties of their underlying homotopy types -- defined e.g. using the total singular complex or the Čech nerve of a good open cover. Upon embedding the category of manifolds into the $\infty$-topos $\mathbf{Diff}^\infty$ of differentiable sheaves one gains a further notion of underlying homotopy type: the shape of the corresponding differentiable sheaf. In a first series of results we prove using simple cofinality and descent arguments that the shape of any manifold coincides with many other notions of underlying homotopy types such as the ones mentioned above. Our techniques moreover allow for computations, such as the homotopy type of the Haefliger stack, following Carchedi. This leads to more refined questions, such as what it means for a mapping differential sheaf to have the correct shape. To answer these we construct model structures as well as more general homotopical calculi on the $\infty$-category $\mathbf{Diff}^\infty$ (which restrict to its full subcategory of $0$-truncated objects,$\mathbf{Diff}^\infty_{\leq 0}$) with shape equivalences as the weak equivalences. These tools are moreover developed in such a way so as to be highly customisable, with a view towards future applications, e.g. in geometric topology. Finally, working with the $\infty$-topos $\mathbf{Diff}^0$ of sheaves on topological manifolds, we give new and conceptual proofs of some classical statements in algebraic topology. These include Dugger and Isaksen's hypercovering theorem, and the fact that the Quillen adjunction between simplicial sets and topological spaces is a Quillen equivalence.

Abstract:In this paper, as the second in our series of papers on differential geometry of microlinear Frolicher spaces, we study differenital forms. The principal result is that the exterior differentiation is uniquely determined geometrically, just as grad (ient), div (ergence) and rot (ation) are uniquely determined geometrically or physically in classical vector calculus. This infinitesimal characterization of exterior differentiation has been completely missing in orthodox differential geometry.

Abstract:We compare a couple of notions of differential form on singular complex algebraic varieties, and relate them to the outermost associated graded spaces of the Hodge filtration of ordinary and intersection cohomology. In particular, we introduce and study singularities, that we call quasi-rational, which are normal and such that for all p, the zeroth cohomology sheaf of the complex of Du Bois p-forms is isomorphic to the direct image of p-forms from a desingularization. We show that an isolated singularity is rational if and only if it is quasi-rational, Du Bois, and certain Hodge numbers of the local mixed Hodge structures vanish.

Abstract:We consider higher generalizations of both a (twisted) Poisson structure and the equivariant condition of a momentum map on a symplectic manifold. On a Lie algebroid over a (pre-)symplectic and (pre-)multisymplectic manifold, we introduce a Lie algebroid differential form called a compatible $E$-$n$-form. This differential form satisfies a compatibility condition, which is consistent with both the Lie algebroid structure and the (pre-)(multi)symplectic structure. There are many interesting examples such as a Poisson structure, a twisted Poisson structure and a twisted $R$-Poisson structure for a pre-$n$-plectic manifold. Moreover, momentum maps and momentum sections on symplectic manifolds, homotopy momentum maps and homotopy momentum sections on multisymplectic manifolds have this structure.

The moduli space of multi-scale differentials

Abstract:We construct a compactification of the moduli spaces of abelian differentials on Riemann surfaces with prescribed zeroes and poles. This compactification, called the moduli space of multi-scale differentials, is a complex orbifold with normal crossing boundary. Locally, our compactification can be described as the normalization of an explicit blowup of the incidence variety compactification, which was defined in [BCGGM18] as the closure of the stratum of abelian differentials in the closure of the Hodge bundle. We also define families of projectivized multi-scale differentials, which gives a proper Deligne-Mumford stack, and our compactification is the orbifold corresponding to it. Moreover, we perform a real oriented blowup of the unprojectivized moduli space of multi-scale differentials such that the $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb R)$-action in the interior of the moduli space extends continuously to the boundary.

Abstract:Consider a smooth, projective family of canonically polarized varieties over a smooth, quasi-projective base manifold Y, all defined over the complex numbers. It has been conjectured that the family is necessarily isotrivial if Y is special in the sense of Campana. We prove the conjecture when Y is a surface or threefold. The proof uses sheaves of symmetric differentials associated to fractional boundary divisors on log canonical spaces, as introduced by Campana in his theory of Orbifoldes Geometriques. We discuss a weak variant of the Harder-Narasimhan Filtration and prove a version of the Bogomolov-Sommese Vanishing Theorem that take the additional fractional positivity along the boundary into account. A brief, but self-contained introduction to Campana's theory is included for the reader's convenience.

Abstract:We construct an example of a uniquely ergodic measured foliation on a surface such that the associated translation flow on the orientation double cover is minimal but not uniquely ergodic. We then prove a geometric criterion for the horizontal foliation of a quadratic differential to be uniquely ergodic. The second theorem generalizes a result of Trevi\~no for the horizontal flow on a translation surface, as well as Masur's criterion for unique ergodicity of the horizontal foliation.

Abstract:We study the class of differentially henselian fields, which are henselian valued fields equipped with generic derivations in the sense of Cubides Kovacics and Point, and are special cases of differentially large fields in the sense of León Sánchez and Tressl. We prove that many results from henselian valued fields as well as differentially large fields can be lifted to the differentially henselian setting, for instance Ax-Kochen/Ershov principles, characterisations in terms of differential algebras, etc. We also give methods to concretely construct such fields in terms of iterated power series expansions and inductive constructions on transcendence bases.
