Abstract:We introduce screw functions for Dirichlet series in the extended Selberg class. Then we prove that the Grand Riemann Hypothesis for a member of the extended Selberg class is equivalent to the nonpositivity of the corresponding screw function.

Abstract:We introduce a screw function corresponding to the Riemann zeta-function and study its properties from various aspects. Typical results are several equivalent conditions for the Riemann hypothesis in terms of the screw function. One of them can be considered an analog of so-called Weil's positivity or Li's criterion. In addition, we prove a few partial but unconditional results for such equivalents.

Abstract:We investigate the screw line corresponding to the screw function associated with the Riemann zeta-function under the Riemann hypothesis and derive three necessary and sufficient conditions for the Riemann hypothesis as applications. One of them explains the non-negativity of the Weil distribution by means of the norm.

Abstract:We study the $M$-functions, which describe the limit theorem for the value-distributions of the secondary main terms in the asymptotic formulas for the summatory functions of the Goldbach counting function. One of the new aspects is a sufficient condition for the Riemann hypothesis provided by some formulas of the $M$-functions, which was a necessary condition in previous work. The other new aspect is the relation between the secondary main terms and the screw functions, which provides another necessary and sufficient condition for the Riemann hypothesis. We study such $M$-functions and screw functions in generalized settings by axiomatizing them.

Abstract:We show that the sign constancy for the values of certain weighted summatory functions of the von Mangoldt function implies the Riemann hypothesis or the generalized Riemann hypothesis for Dirichlet $L$-functions. While such sign constancy is challenging to establish individually, we prove that the summatory functions under study have constant signs on average.

Abstract:We demonstrate the existence and uniqueness of the solution to the Dirichlet problem for a generalization of Hitchin's equation for diagonal harmonic metrics on cyclic Higgs bundles. The generalized equations are formulated using subharmonic functions. In this generalization, the coefficient exhibits worse regularity than that in the original equation.

Abstract:In this paper, we give Dirichlet series with periodic coefficients that have Riemann's functional equation and real zeros of Dirichlet $L$-functions. The details are as follows. Let $L(s,\chi)$ be the Dirichlet $L$-function and $G(\chi)$ be the Gauss sum associate with a primitive Dirichlet character $\chi$ (${\rm{mod}} \,\, q$). Put $f (s,\chi) := q^s L(s,\chi) + i^{-\kappa (\chi)} G(\chi) L(s,\overline{\chi})$, where $\overline{\chi}$ is the complex conjugate of $\chi$ and $\kappa (\chi) :=(1-\chi (-1))/2$. Then we prove that $f (s,\chi)$ satisfies Riemann's functional equation appearing in Hamburger's theorem if $\chi$ is even. In addition, we show that $f (\sigma,\chi) \ne 0$ all $\sigma \ge 1$. Moreover, we prove that $f(\sigma,\chi) \ne 0$ for all $1/2 \le \sigma < 1$ if and only if $L(\sigma,\chi) \ne 0$ for all $1/2 \le \sigma < 1$. When $\chi$ is real, all zeros of $f(s,\chi)$ with $\Re (s) >0$ are on the line $\sigma =1/2$ if and only if GRH for $L(s,\chi)$ is true. However, $f (s,\chi)$ has infinitely many zeros off the critical line $\sigma =1/2$ if $\chi$ is non-real.

Abstract:Recently, Dixit et al. [24] established a very elegant generalization of Hardy's theorem concerning the infinitude of zeros that the Riemann zeta function possesses at its critical line. By introducing a general transformation formula for the theta function involving the Bessel and modified Bessel functions of the first kind, we extend their result to a class of Dirichlet series satisfying Hecke's functional equation. In the process, we also find new generalizations of classical identities in Analytic number theory.

We derive new results for the lower bound sieve suited especially for this setup and we apply them in particular to give a new sieve-propelled proof of Linnik's theorem on the least prime in an arithmetic progression in the case of the presence of exceptional zeros.

Abstract:$L$ functions based on Dirichlet characters are natural generalizations of the Riemann $\zeta(s)$ function: they both have series representations and satisfy an Euler product representation, i.e. an infinite product taken over prime numbers. In this paper we address the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis relative to the non-trivial complex zeros of the Dirichlet $L$ functions by studying the possibility to enlarge the original domain of convergence of their Euler product. The feasibility of this analytic continuation is ruled by the asymptotic behavior in $N$ of the series $B_N = \sum_{n=1}^N \cos \bigl( t \log p_n - \arg \chi (p_n) \bigr)$ involving Dirichlet characters $\chi$ modulo $q$ on primes $p_n$. Although deterministic, these series have pronounced stochastic features which make them analogous to random time series. We show that the $B_N$'s satisfy various normal law probability distributions. The study of their large asymptotic behavior poses an interesting problem of statistical physics equivalent to the Single Brownian Trajectory Problem, here addressed by defining an appropriate ensemble $\mathcal{E}$ involving intervals of primes. For non-principal characters, we show that the series $B_N$ present a universal diffusive random walk behavior $B_N = O(\sqrt{N})$ in view of the Dirichlet theorem on the equidistribution of reduced residue classes modulo $q$ and the Lemke Oliver-Soundararajan conjecture on the distribution of pairs of residues on consecutive primes. This purely diffusive behavior of $B_N$ implies that the domain of convergence of the infinite product representation of the Dirichlet $L$-functions for non-principal characters can be extended from $\Re(s) > 1$ down to $\Re (s) = \frac{1}{2}$, without encountering any zeros before reaching this critical line.

Abstract:Using the Dirichlet theorem on the equidistribution of residue classes modulo $q$ and the Lemke Oliver-Soundararajan conjecture on the distribution of pairs of residues on consecutive primes, we show that the domain of convergence of the infinite product of Dirichlet $L$-functions of non-principal characters can be extended from $\Re(s) > 1$ down to $\Re(s) > \half$, without encountering any zeros before reaching this critical line. The possibility of doing so can be traced back to a universal diffusive random walk behavior $C_N = {\cal O}(N^{1/2})$ of the series $C_N = \sum_{n=1}^N \chi (p_n)$ over the primes $p_n$ where $\chi$ is a Dirichlet character, which underlies the convergence of the infinite product of the Dirichlet functions. The series $C_N$ presents several aspects in common with stochastic time series and its control requires to address a problem similar to the Single Brownian Trajectory Problem in statistical mechanics. In the case of the Dirichlet functions of non principal characters, we show that this problem can be solved in terms of a self-averaging procedure based on an ensemble $\CE$ of block variables computed on extended intervals of primes. Those intervals, called {\em inertial intervals}, ensure the ergodicity and stationarity of the time series underlying the quantity $C_N$. The infinity of primes also ensures the absence of rare events which would have been responsible for a different scaling behavior than the universal law $C_N = {\cal O}(N^{1/2})$ of the random walks.

The Selberg trace formula for spin Dirac operators on degenerating hyperbolic surfaces

Abstract:We investigate the spectrum of the spin Dirac operator on families of hyperbolic surfaces where a set of disjoint simple geodesics shrink to $0$, under the hypothesis that the spin structure is non-trivial along each pinched geodesic. The main tool is a trace formula for the Dirac operator on finite area hyperbolic surfaces. We derive a version of Huber's theorem and a non-standard small-time heat trace asymptotic expansion for hyperbolic surfaces with cusps. As a corollary we find a simultaneous Weyl law for the eigenvalues of the Dirac operator which is uniform in the degenerating parameter. The main result is the convergence of the Selberg zeta function associated to the Dirac operator on such families of hyperbolic surfaces. A central role is played by a $\{ \pm 1 \}$-valued class function $\varepsilon$ determined by the spin structure.

A note on $r$-gaps between zeros of the Riemann zeta-function

Abstract:In this note, we prove Selberg's announced result on $r$-gaps between zeros of the Riemann zeta-function $\zeta$. Our proof uses a result on variations of $\arg\zeta$ by Tsang based on Selberg's method. The same result with explicit constants under the Riemann Hypothesis has been obtained by Conrey and Turnage-Butterbaugh using a different method. We explain how to obtain explicit constants under the Riemann Hypothesis using our approach which is based on Selberg's and Tsang's arguments.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime, $ f$ be a $ p $-ordinary newform of weight $ k $ and $ h $ be a normalized cuspidal $ p $-ordinary Hecke eigenform of weight $ l < k$. In this article, we study the $p$-adic $ L $-function and $ p^{\infty} $-Selmer group of the Rankin-Selberg product of $f$ and $h$ under the assumption that $ p $ is an Eisenstein prime for $ h $ i.e. the residual Galois representation of $ h $ at $ p $ is reducible. We show that the $ p $-adic $ L $-function and the characteristic ideal of the $p^\infty$-Selmer group of the Rankin-Selberg product of $f, h$ generate the same ideal modulo $ p $ in the Iwasawa algebra i.e. the Rankin-Selberg Iwasawa main conjecture for $f \otimes h$ holds mod $p$. As an application to our results, we explicitly describe a few examples where the above congruence holds.

Abstract:A lower bound for the dimension of the $\Q$-vector space spanned by special values of a Dirichlet series with periodic coefficients is given. As a corollary, it is deduced that both special values at even integers and at odd integers contain infinitely many irrational numbers. This result is proved by <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://T.Rivoal" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> if the function considered is the Riemann zeta function, and this paper gives its generalization to more general Dirichlet series.

Abstract:Poincare-type series, such as Selberg's, are known to produce automorphic functions, in the hyperbolic half-plane, the decompositions of which into eigenfunctions (genuine or generalized) of the automorphic Laplacian contain all modular forms of nonholomorphic type. We introduce a one-parameter family of explicit automorphic measures supported by discrete unions of congruent lines with the same property, except for one value of the real parameter, for which they miss exactly the Eisenstein series associated to non-trivial zeros of zeta, and the Hecke eigenforms the $L$-functions associated to which vanish as $\frac{1}{2}$. The Grand Riemann Hypothesis, a special case of which is needed, is proved.

Abstract:We consider random Dirichlet series , with complex numbers, , increasing to , and otherwise arbitrary; and with a Rademacher sequence of random variables. We study their almost sure convergence on the critical line of convergence When (periodic case), a well-known sufficient condition on the coefficients a n ensuring almost sure uniform convergence on (equivalently uniform convergence on ) has been given by Salem and Zygmund, who made strong use of Bernstein's inequality. When is arbitrary (non-periodic case), one must distinguish between uniform convergence on compact subsets of (local convergence) and uniform convergence on . We extend Salem–Zygmund's theorem to general random Dirichlet series in this non-periodic case. Our main tools are a simple "local" Bernstein's inequality, and P. Lévy's symmetry principle.
