Abstract:Using Galois representations attached to elliptic curves, we construct Galois extensions of $\mathbb{Q}$ with group $GL_2(p)$ in which all decomposition groups are cyclic. This is the first such realization for all primes $p$.

Abstract:It is known that any Galois representation $\rho : G_{\mathbb{Q}} \rightarrow \mathrm{GL}(2,\mathbb{F}_p)$ with determinant equal to the mod-$p$ cyclotomic character, arises from the $p$-torsion of an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$, if and only if $p \leq 5$. In dimension $g = 2$, when $p \le 3$, it is again known that any Galois representation valued in $\mathrm{GSp}(4,\mathbb{F}_p)$ with cyclotomic similitude character arises from an abelian surface. In this paper, we study this question for all primes $p$ and dimensions $g \ge 2$. When $g \ge 2$ and $(g,p) \neq (2,2)$, $(2,3)$, $(3,2)$, we prove the existence of a Galois representation over $\mathbb{Q}$ valued in $\mathrm{GSp}(2g,\mathbb{F}_p)$ with cyclotomic similitude character, that cannot arise as the $p$-torsion representation of any $g$-dimensional abelian variety over $\mathbb{Q}$.

Abstract:For every finite group $H$ and every finite $H$-module $A$, we determine the subgroup of negligible classes in $H^2(H,A)$, in the sense of Serre, over fields with enough roots of unity. As a consequence, we show that for every odd prime $p$, every integer $n\geq 3$, and every field $F$ containing a primitive $p$-th root of unity, there exists a continuous $n$-dimensional mod $p$ representation of the absolute Galois group of $F(x_1,\dots,x_p)$ which does not lift modulo $p^2$. This answers a question of Khare and Serre, and disproves a conjecture of Florence.

Abstract:We study the growth of the Galois invariants of the $p$-Selmer group of an elliptic curve in a degree $p$ Galois extension. We show that this growth is determined by certain local cohomology groups and determine necessary and sufficient conditions for these groups to be trivial. Under certain hypotheses this allows us to give necessary and sufficient conditions for there to be growth in the full $p$-Selmer group in a degree $p$ Galois extension.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove, under a technical assumption, that any semi-direct product of a $p$-group $G$ with a group $\Phi$ of order prime to $p$ can appear as the Galois group of a tower of extensions $H/K/F$ with the property that $H$ is the maximal pro-$p$ extension of $K$ that is unramified everywhere, and $\operatorname{Gal}(H/K) = G$. A consequence of this result is that any local ring admitting a surjection to $\mathbb{Z}_5$ or $\mathbb{Z}_7$ with finite kernel can occur as a universal everywhere unramified deformation ring.

Abstract:We give a categorical formulation of the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence for $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$,as an embedding of the derived category of locally admissible representations into the category of Ind-coherent sheaves on the moduli stack of two-dimensional representations of $\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}_p/\mathbb{Q}_p)$. Moreover, we relate our version of the $p$-adic local Langlands correspondence for $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$ to the cohomology of modular curves through a local-global compatibility formula.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a finite extension of $\mathbf{Q}_p$ and let $\mathcal{G}_K = \mathrm{Gal}(\overline{\mathbf{Q}_p}/K)$. Fontaine has constructed a useful classification of $p$-adic representations of $\mathcal{G}_K$ in terms of cyclotomic $(\varphi,\Gamma)$-modules. Lately, interest has risen around a generalization of the theory of $(\varphi,\Gamma)$-modules, replacing the cyclotomic extension with an arbitrary infinitely ramified $p$-adic Lie extension. Computations from Berger suggest that locally analytic vectors should provide such a generalization for any arbitrary infinitely ramified $p$-adic Lie extension, and this has been conjectured by Kedlaya. In this paper, we focus on the case of $\mathbf{Z}_p$-extensions, using recent work of Berger-Rozensztajn and Porat on an integral version of locally analytic vectors, and prove that Kedlaya's conjecture does not hold for anticyclotomic extensions. This also provide an example of an extension for which there is no overconvergent lift of its field of norms and for which there exist nontrivial higher locally analytic vectors

Towards the wall-crossing of locally $\mathbb{Q}_p$-analytic representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n(K)$ for a $p$-adic field $K$

Abstract:Let $K$ be a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. We study the locally $\mathbb{Q}_p$-analytic representations $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n(K)$ of integral weights that appear in spaces of $p$-adic automorphic representations. We conjecture that the translation of $\pi$ to the singular block has an internal structure which is compatible with certain algebraic representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n$, analogously to the mod $p$ local-global compatibility conjecture of Breuil-Herzig-Hu-Morra-Schraen. We next make some conjectures and speculations on the wall-crossings of $\pi$. In particular, when $\pi$ is associated to a two dimensional de Rham Galois representation, we make conjectures and speculations on the relation between the Hodge filtrations of $\rho$ and the wall-crossings of $\pi$, which have a flavour of the Breuil-Strauch conjecture. We collect some results towards the conjectures and speculations.

Abstract:Recently, much work has been done to investigate Galois module structure of local field extensions, particularly through the use of Galois scaffolds. Given a totally ramified $p$-extension of local fields $L/K$, a Galois Scaffold gives us a $K$-basis for $K[G]$ whose effect on the valuation of elements of $L$ is easy to determine. In 2013, N.P. Byott and G.G. Elder gave sufficient conditions for the existence of Galois scaffolds for cyclic extensions of degree $p^2$ in characteristic $p$. We take their work and adapt it to cyclic extensions of degree $p^2$ in characteristic $0$.

Abstract:We consider sections of the étale homotopy exact sequence of a hyperbolic curve over a number field. We prove that two sections whose restrictions to decomposition groups are conjugate on a set of valuations of density one are globally conjugate, which establishes the local-global principle for the conjugacy classes of sections. In fact, we obtain this result as a corollary of a more general property concerning sections of the étale homotopy exact sequence, so-called finite covering property, which we prove as our main result.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field. Let $\pi_1$ and $\pi_2$ be irreducible Arthur type representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$ and $\mathrm{GL}_{n-1}(F)$ respectively. We study Ext branching laws when $\pi_1$ and $\pi_2$ are products of discrete series representations and their Aubert-Zelevinsky duals. We obtain an Ext analogue of the local non-tempered Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture in this case.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a local field of characteristic $p>0$ with perfect residue field and let $G$ be a finite $p$-group. In this paper we use Saltman's construction of a generic $G$-extension of rings of characteristic $p$ to construct totally ramified $G$-extensions $L/K$ that have Galois scaffolds. We specialize this construction to produce $G$-extensions $L/K$ such that the ring of integers $O_L$ is free of rank 1 over its associated order $A_0$, and extensions such that $A_0$ is a Hopf order in the group ring $K[G]$.

Abstract:We study deformation theory of mod $p$ Galois representations of $p$-adic fields with values in generalised reductive group schemes, such as $L$-groups and $C$-groups. We show that the corresponding deformation rings are complete intersections of expected dimension. We determine their irreducible components in many cases and show that they and their special fibres are normal and complete intersection.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime number and $K$ a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. We state conjectures on the smooth representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n(K)$ that occur in spaces of mod $p$ automorphic forms (for compact unitary groups). In particular, when $K$ is unramified, we conjecture that they are of finite length and predict their internal structure (extensions, form of subquotients) from the structure of a certain algebraic representation of $\mathrm{GL}_n$. When $n=2$ and $K$ is unramified, we prove several cases of our conjectures, including new finite length results.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime and $F$ be a number field whose $p$-class group is cyclic. Let $F_{\{\mathfrak{q}\}}$ be the maximal pro-$p$ extension of $F$ which is unramified outside a single non-$p$-adic prime ideal $\mathfrak{q}$ of $F$. In this work, we study the finitude of the Galois group $G_{\{\mathfrak{q}\}}(F)$ of $F_{\{\mathfrak{q}\}}$ over $F$. We prove that $G_{\{\mathfrak{q}\}}(F)$ is finite for the majority of $\mathfrak{q}$'s such that the generator rank of $G_{\{\mathfrak{q}\}}(F)$ is two, provided that for $p = 3$, $F$ is not a complex quartic field containing the primitive third roots of unity.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field of characteristic different from 2 and residual characteristic $p$. This paper concerns the $\ell$-modular representations of a connected reductive group $G$ distinguished by a Galois involution, with $\ell$ an odd prime different from $p$. We start by proving a general theorem allowing to lift supercuspidal $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_{\ell}$-representations of $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$ distinguished by an arbitrary closed subgroup $H$ to a distinguished supercuspidal $\overline{\mathbb{Q}}_{\ell}$-representation. Given a quadratic field extension $E/F$ and an irreducible $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_{\ell}$-representation $\pi$ of $\mathrm{GL}_n(E)$, we verify the Jacquet conjecture in the modular setting that if the Langlands parameter $\phi_\pi$ is irreducible and conjugate-self-dual, then $\pi$ is either $\mathrm{GL}_n(F)$-distinguished or $(\mathrm{GL}_n(F),\omega_{E/F})$-distinguished (where $\omega_{E/F}$ is the quadratic character of $F^\times$ associated to the quadratic field extension $E/F$ by the local class field theory), but not both, which extends one result of Sécherre to the case $p=2$. We give another application of our lifting theorem for supercuspidal representations distinguished by a unitary involution, extending one result of Zou to $p=2$.

Lifting $G$-Valued Galois Representations when $\ell \neq p$

Abstract:In this paper we study the universal lifting spaces of local Galois representations valued in arbitrary reductive group schemes when $\ell \neq p$. In particular, under certain technical conditions applicable to any root datum we construct a canonical smooth component in such spaces, generalizing the minimally ramified deformation condition previously studied for classical groups. Our methods involve extending the notion of isotypic decomposition for a $\textrm{GL}_n$-valued representation to general reductive group schemes. To deal with certain scheme-theoretic issues coming from this notion, we are led to a detailed study of certain families of disconnected reductive groups, which we call weakly reductive group schemes. Our work can be used to produce geometric lifts for global Galois representations, and we illustrate this for $\mathrm{G}_2$-valued representations.

Abstract:The p-adic local Lane lands correspondence for GL(2)(Q(p)) attaches to any 2-dimensional irreducible p-adic representation V of G(Qp), an admissible unitary representation Pi(V) of GL(2)(Q(p)). The unitary principal series of GL(2)(Q(p)) are those Pi(V) corresponding to tritinguline representations. In this article, for p > 2, using the machinery of Colmez, we determine the space of locally analytic vectors Pi(V)(an) for all non-exceptional unitary principal series Pi(V) of GL(2)(Q(p)) by proving a conjecture of Emerton.

Abstract:We define a pro-$p$ Abelian sheaf on a modular curve of a fixed level $N \geq 5$ divisible by a prime number $p \neq 2$. Every $p$-adic representation of $\text{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}/\mathbb{Q})$ associated to an eigenform is obtained as a quotient of its étale cohomology. For any compact $\mathbb{Z}_p[[1 + N \mathbb{Z}_p]]$-algebra $\Lambda_1$ satisfying certain suitable conditions, we construct a representation of $\text{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}/\mathbb{Q})$ over $\Lambda_1$ associated to a $\Lambda_1$-adic cuspidal eigenform of finite slope as a scalar extension of a quotient of the étale cohomology.
