Abstract:We prove that holomorphic vector bundles over Stein manifolds with the density property also satisfy the density property, provided that the total space is holomorphically flexible. We apply this result to provide a new class of Stein manifolds with the density property.

Abstract:We prove the density property for generalized Calogero--Moser spaces with inner degrees of freedom. This allows us to describe the holomorphic automorphism group of these complex affine manifolds. These generalized Calogero--Moser spaces can also be understood as quiver varieties corresponding to moduli spaces of $\mathrm{SU}(2)$ instantons on a non-commutative $\mathbb{R}^4$.

Abstract:Lagrangian fibrations of hyperkähler manifolds are induced by semi-ample line bundles which are isotropic with respect to the Beauville-Bogomolov-Fujiki form. For a non-isotrivial family of hyperkähler manifolds over a complex manifold $S$ of positive dimension, we prove that the set of points in $S$, for which there is an isotropic class in the Picard lattice of the corresponding hyperkähler manifold represented as a fiber over that point, is analytically dense in $S$. We also prove the expected openness and density of the locus of polarised hyperkähler manifolds that admit a nef algebraic isotropic line bundle.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of the algebraic overshear density property which implies both the algebraic notion of flexibility and the holomorphic notion of the density property. We investigate basic consequences of this stronger property, and propose further research directions in this borderland between affine algebraic geometry and elliptic holomorphic geometry. As an application, we show that any smoothly bordered Riemann surface with finitely many boundary components that is embedded in a complex affine surface with the algebraic overshear density property admits a proper holomorphic embedding.

Abstract:Abstract We propose a new approach to the value distribution theory of entire holomorphic curves. We define packing density of Brody curves, and show that it has various non-trivial properties. The packing density of Brody curves can be considered as an infinite dimensional version of characteristic number, and it has an application to Gromov’s mean dimension theory.

Abstract:We use the Leray spectral sequence for the sheaf cohomology groups with compact supports to obtain a vanishing result. The stalks of sheaves $R^{\bullet}\phi_{!}\mathcal{O}$ for the structure sheaf $\mathcal{O}$ on the total space of a holomorphic fiber bundle $\phi$ has canonical topology structures. Using the standard \vCech argument we prove a density lemma for QDFS-topology on this stalks. In particular, we obtain a vanishing result for holomorphic fiber bundles with Stein fibers. Using Künnet formulas, properties of an inductive topology (with respect to the pair of spaces) on the stalks of the sheaf $R^{1}\phi_{!}\mathcal{O}$ and a cohomological criterion for the Hartogs phenomenon we obtain the main result on the Hartogs phenomenon for the total space of holomorphic fiber bundles with (1,0)-compactifiable fibers.

Abstract:Let $(M,g)$ be a compact connected $C^{\infty}$ surface without conjugate points of genus greater than one. We show that set of geodesics without strips forms a dense set of orbits in the unit tangent bundle. This fact was known assuming no focal points as a consequence of a result of Coudène and Shapira. They showed that flat strips are periodic and hence form a set of zero measure in the unit tangent bundle.

Abstract:In this paper we generalise the theory of real vector bundles to a certain class of non-Hausdorff manifolds. In particular, it is shown that every vector bundle fibred over these non-Hausdorff manifolds can be constructed as a colimit of standard vector bundles. We then use this description to introduce various formulas that express non-Hausdorff structures in terms of data defined on certain Hausdorff submanifolds. Finally, we use Čech cohomology to classify the real non-Hausdorff line bundles.

Abstract:The algebra of densities $\Den(M)$ is a commutative algebra canonically associated with a given manifold or supermanifold $M$. We introduced this algebra earlier in connection with our studies of Batalin--Vilkovisky geometry. The algebra $\Den(M)$ is graded by real numbers and possesses a natural invariant scalar product. This leads to important geometric consequences and applications to geometric constructions on the original manifold. In particular, there is a classification theorem for derivations of the algebra $\Den(M)$. It allows a natural definition of bracket operations on vector densities of various weights on a (super)manifold $M$, similar to how the classical Frölicher--Nijenhuis theorem on derivations of the algebra of differential forms leads to the Nijenhuis bracket. It is possible to extend this classification from "vector fields" (derivations) on $\Den(M)$ to "multivector fields". This leads to the striking result that an arbitrary even Poisson structure on $M$ possesses a canonical lifting to the algebra of densities. This is in sharp contrast with the previously studied case of an odd Poisson structure, where extra data are required for such a lifting.

A density property for tensor products of gradients of harmonic functions and applications

Abstract:We show that tensor products of $k$ gradients of harmonic functions, with $k$ at least three, are dense in $C(\overline{\Omega})$, for any bounded domain $\Omega$ in dimension 3 or higher. The bulk of the argument consists in showing that any smooth compactly supported $k$-tensor that is $L^2$-orthogonal to all such products must be zero. This is done by using a Gaussian quasi-mode based construction of harmonic functions in the orthogonality relation. We then demonstrate the usefulness of this result by using it to prove uniqueness in the inverse boundary value problem for a coupled quasilinear elliptic system. The paper ends with a discussion of the corresponding property for products of two gradients of harmonic functions, and the connection of this property with the linearized anisotropic Calderón problem.

Dynamics of generic automorphisms of Stein manifolds with the density property

Abstract:We study the dynamics of a generic automorphism $f$ of a Stein manifold with the density property. Such manifolds include all linear algebraic groups. Even in the special case of $\mathbb C^n$, $n\geq 2$, most of our results are new. We study the Julia set, non-wandering set, and chain-recurrent set of $f$. We show that the closure of the set of saddle periodic points of $f$ is the largest forward invariant set on which $f$ is chaotic. This subset of the Julia set of $f$ is also characterised as the closure of the set of transverse homoclinic points of $f$, and equals the Julia set if and only if a certain closing lemma holds. Among the other results in the paper is a generalisation of Buzzard's holomorphic Kupka-Smale theorem to our setting.

Abstract:Given a family $$f:\mathcal{X} \to S$$ of canonically polarized manifolds, the unique Kähler–Einstein metrics on the fibers induce a hermitian metric on the relative canonical bundle $$\mathcal{K}_{\mathcal{X}/S}$$. We use a global elliptic equation to show that this metric is strictly positive on $$\mathcal{X}$$, unless the family is infinitesimally trivial.For degenerating families we show that the curvature form on the total space can be extended as a (semi-)positive closed current. By fiber integration it follows that the generalized Weil–Petersson form on the base possesses an extension as a positive current. We prove an extension theorem for hermitian line bundles, whose curvature forms have this property. This theorem can be applied to a determinant line bundle associated to the relative canonical bundle on the total space. As an application the quasi-projectivity of the moduli space $$\mathcal{M}_{\text{can}}$$ of canonically polarized varieties follows.The direct images $$R^{n-p}f_{*}\Omega^{p}_{\mathcal{X}/S}(\mathcal {K}_{\mathcal{X}/S}^{\otimes m})$$, m>0, carry natural hermitian metrics. We prove an explicit formula for the curvature tensor of these direct images. We apply it to the morphisms $$S^{p}\mathcal{T}_{S} \to R^{p}f_{*}\Lambda^{p}\mathcal{T}_{\mathcal{X}/S}$$ that are induced by the Kodaira–Spencer map and obtain a differential geometric proof for hyperbolicity properties of $$\mathcal{M}_{\text{can}}$$.

Abstract:In this note we announce a result for vector fields on three-dimensional manifolds: those who are singular hyperbolic or exhibit a homoclinic tangency form a dense subset of the space of $C^1$-vector fields. This answers a conjecture by Palis. The argument uses an extension for local fibered flows of Mañé and Pujals-Sambarino's theorems about the uniform contraction of one-dimensional dominated bundles. Sur la densité de l'hyperbolicité singulière pour les champs de vecteurs en dimension trois : une conjecture de Palis Dans cette note, nous annonçons un résultat portant sur les champs de vecteurs des variétés de dimension $3$ : ceux qui vérifient l'hyperbolicité singulière ou qui possèdent une tangence homocline forment un sous-ensemble dense de l'espace des champs de vecteurs $C^1$. Ceci répond à une conjecture de Palis. La démonstration utilise une généralisation pour les flots fibrés locaux des théorèmes de Mañé et Pujals-Sambarino traitant de la contraction uniforme de fibrés unidimensionnels dominés.

Abstract:We introduce capillary hypersurfaces and its stability in a manifold with density. We prove that stable f-minimal hypersurfaces with free boundary in a geodesic ball in space form with suitable radial density must be totally geodesic. We also prove two criteria for instability of the capillary hypersurfaces in a Euclidean ball with suitable density. At last, we obtain a topological restriction on strongly stable capillary surfaces in a 3-manifold with density under certain conditions. These results generalize those in a manifold with constant density.

Abstract:In extension of our previous study of KNbO_3 by the semiempirical Hartree-Fock method we present parameterization and total-energy results for non-ferroelectric KTaO_3 as a pure crystal (concentrating on the frozen phonon calculations) and that with Li impurities. The magnitudes of off-center Li displacements and the relaxation energies related to re-orientation of Li are calculated and compared with experimental estimates and earlier calculation results. The spatial extent of lattice relaxation around Li impurities and contributions from different neighbors to the relaxation energy are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new energy density function Y on the projective bundle P(T-M) -> M for a smooth map f : (M, h) -> (N, g) between Riemannian manifolds Y = g(ij )f(alpha)(i )f(beta)(j )W(alpha)W(beta)/& sum;h(gamma delta)W(gamma)W(delta). We establish new Hessian estimates to this energy density, which can be regarded as "average" versions of classical estimates. As applications, we obtain various new Liouville type theorems for holomorphic maps, harmonic maps and pluri-harmonic maps. For instance, we show that there is no non-constant holomorphic map from a compact Hermitian manifold with positive (resp. non-negative) holomorphic sectional curvature to a Hermitian manifold with non-positive (resp. negative) holomorphic sectional curvature.

Abstract:Extensions of Huber's Theorem to higher dimensions with bounded scalar curvature have been extensively studied over the years. In this paper, we delve into the properties of conformal metrics on a punctured ball with , aiming to identify necessary geometric constraints for Huber's theorem to be applicable. Unexpectedly, such metrics are more rigid than we initially anticipated. For instance, we found that the volume density at infinity is precisely one, and the blow-down of the metric is . Specifically, in four dimensions, we derive the -integrability of the Ricci curvature, which directly leads to the conclusion that the Pfaffian 4-form is integrable and adheres to a Gauss-Bonnet-Chern formula. Additionally, we demonstrate that a Gauss-Bonnet-Chern formula, previously verified by Lu and Wang under the assumption that the second fundamental form belongs to , remains valid for . Consequently, on an orientable 4-dimensional manifold conformal to a domain in a closed manifold, Huber's Theorem holds when , if and only if the negative part of the Pfaffian 4-form is integrable.

Invariant distributions and the transport twistor space of closed surfaces

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to study transport equations on the unit tangent bundle of closed oriented Riemannian surfaces and to connect these to the transport twistor space of the surface (a complex surface naturally tailored to the geodesic vector field). We show that fibrewise holomorphic distributions invariant under the geodesic flow - which play an important role in tensor tomography on surfaces - form a unital algebra, that is, multiplication of such distributions is well-defined and continuous. We also exhibit a natural bijective correspondence between fibrewise holomorphic invariant distributions and genuine holomorphic functions on twistor space with polynomial blowup on the boundary of the twistor space. Eventually, when the surface is Anosov, we classify holomorphic line bundles over twistor space which are smooth up to the boundary. As a byproduct of our analysis, we obtain a quantitative version of a result of Flaminio, asserting that invariant distributions of the geodesic flow of a positively-curved metric on the 2-sphere are determined by their zeroth and first Fourier modes.

On the Optimal Regularity Implied by the Assumptions of Geometry II: Connections on Vector Bundles

Abstract:We extend authors' prior results on optimal regularity and Uhlenbeck compactness for affine connections to general connections on vector bundles. This is accomplished by deriving a vector bundle version of the RT-equations, and establishing a new existence theory for these equations. These new RT-equations, non-invariant elliptic equations, provide the gauge transformations which transform the fibre component of a non-optimal connection to optimal regularity, i.e., the connection is one derivative more regular than its curvature in $L^p$. The existence theory handles curvature regularity all the way down to, but not including, $L^1$. Taken together with the affine case, our results extend optimal regularity of Kazden-DeTurck and the compactness theorem of Uhlenbeck, applicable to Riemannian geometry and compact gauge groups, to general connections on vector bundles over non-Riemannian manifolds, allowing for both compact and non-compact gauge groups. In particular, this extends optimal regularity and Uhlenbeck compactness to Yang-Mills connections on vector bundles over Lorentzian manifolds as base space, the setting of General Relativity.
