Abstract:In \cite{Wu22}, under the uniformly acute condition, Wu showed the rigidity of the geodesic triangulated plane under Luo's discrete conformality. In this article, by modifying Wu's proof, we improve this result by weakening the uniformly acute condition to the uniformly Delaunay condition.

Abstract:We proved a rigidity result for Delaunay triangulations of the plane under Luo's discrete conformal change, extending previous results on hexagonal triangulations. Our result is a discrete analogue of the conformal rigidity of the plane. We followed Zhengxu He's analytical approach in his work on the rigidity of disk patterns, and developed a discrete Schwarz lemma and a discrete Liouville theorem. The main tools include conformal modulus, discrete extremal length, and maximum principles in discrete conformal geometry.

Abstract:We show that a uniformly acute triangulation of the plane is rigid under Luo's discrete conformal change, extending previous results on hexagonal triangulations. Our result is a discrete analogue of the conformal rigidity of the plane. We followed He's analytical approach in his work on the rigidity of disk patterns. The main tools include maximum principles, a discrete Liouville theorem, smooth and discrete extremal lengths on networks. The key step is relating the Euclidean discrete conformality to the hyperbolic discrete conformality, to obtain an L-infinity bound on the discrete conformal factor.

Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form of M 2 , respectively. Set ρ 2 = S −2 H 2 . In this note, we proved that there exists a universal positive constant C , such that if ∥ ρ 2 ∥ 2 < C , then ρ 2 =0 and M 2 is a totally umbilical sphere.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate Yau's rigidity problem for compact submanifolds with parallel mean curvature in pinched Riemannian manifolds. Firstly, we prove that if M-n is an oriented closed minimal submanifold in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn(+p), then there exists a constant delta(0)(n, p) is an element of (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies (K) over bar (N) is an element of[delta(0)(n, p), 1], and if M has a lower bound for the sectional curvature and an upper bound for the normalized scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally geodesic sphere, one of the Clifford minimal hypersurfaces S-k(root k/n) x S-n (k)(root n-k/n) in Sn+1 for k = 1,..., n-1, or the Veronese submanifold in Sn+d, where d = 1/2n(n + 1) - 1. We then generalize the above theorem to the case where M ia a compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in a pinched Riemannian manifold.
Rigidity of discrete conformal structures on surfaces

Abstract:In \cite{G3}, Glickenstein introduced the discrete conformal structures on polyhedral surfaces in an axiomatic approach from Riemannian geometry perspective. Glickenstein's discrete conformal structures include Thurston's circle packings, Bowers-Stephenson's inversive distance circle packings and Luo's vertex scalings as special cases. Glickenstein \cite{G5} further conjectured the rigidity of the discrete conformal structures on polyhedral surfaces. Glickenstein's conjecture includes Luo's conjecture on the rigidity of vertex scalings \cite{L1} and Bowers-Stephenson's conjecture on the rigidity of inversive distance circle packings \cite{BSt} as special cases. In this paper, we prove Glickenstein's conjecture using variational principles. This unifies and generalizes the well-known results of Luo \cite{L4} and Bobenko-Pinkall-Springborn \cite{BPS}. Our method provides a unified approach to similar problems. We further discuss the relationships of Glickenstein's discrete conformal structures on polyhedral surfaces and $3$-dimensional hyperbolic geometry. As a result, we obtain some new results on the convexities of the co-volume functions of some generalized $3$-dimensional hyperbolic tetrahedra.

Abstract:We prove some structure results for transversely reducible Sasaki manifolds. In particular, we show a Sasaki manifold with positive Ricci curvature is transversely irreducible, and so join (product) construction cannot be generalized to irregular Sasaki-Einstein manifolds, as opposed to the quasi-regular case done by Wang-Ziller and Boyer-Galicki. As an application, we classify compact Sasaki manifolds with nonnegative transverse bisectional curvature, which can be viewed as the generalized Frankel conjecture in Sasaki geometry.
A new class of discrete conformal structures on surfaces with boundary

Abstract:We introduce a new class of discrete conformal structures on surfaces with boundary, which have nice interpolations in 3-dimensional hyperbolic geometry. Then we prove the global rigidity of the new discrete conformal structures using variational principles, which is a complement of Guo-Luo's rigidity of the discrete conformal structures and Guo's rigidity of vertex scaling on surface with boundary. As a result, new convexities of the volume of generalized hyperbolic pyramids with right-angled hyperbolic hexagonal bases are obtained. Motivated by Chow-Luo's combinatorial Ricci flow and Luo's combinatorial Yamabe flow on closed surfaces, we further introduce combinatorial Ricci flow and combinatorial Calabi flows to deform the new discrete conformal structures on surfaces with boundary. The basic properties of these combinatorial curvature flows are established. These combinatorial curvature flows provide effective algorithms for constructing hyperbolic metrics on surfaces with totally geodesic boundary components of prescribed lengths.

Abstract:We present a self-contained short proof of the seminal result of Dillencourt (SoCG 1987 and DCG 1990) that Delaunay triangulations, of planar point sets in general position, are 1-tough. An important implication of this result is that Delaunay triangulations have perfect matchings. Another implication of our result is a proof of the conjecture of Aichholzer et al. (2010) that at least $n$ points are required to block any $n$-vertex Delaunay triangulation

Abstract:We give a description of the cohomology groups of the structure sheaf on smooth compactifications of Deligne–Lusztig varieties X ( w ) for , for all elements w in the Weyl group. As a consequence, we obtain the and integral p -adic étale cohomology of . Moreover, using our result for and a spectral sequence associated to a stratification of , we deduce the and integral p -adic étale cohomology with compact support of X ( w ). In our proof of the main theorem, in addition to considering the Demazure–Hansen smooth compactifications of X ( w ), we show that a similar class of constructions provide smooth compactifications of X ( w ) in the case of . Furthermore, we show in the appendix that the Zariski closure of X ( w ), for any connected reductive group G and any w , has pseudo-rational singularities.

Abstract:The paper proves a result on the convergence of discrete conformal maps to the Riemann mappings for Jordan domains. It is a counterpart of Rodin-Sullivan's theorem on convergence of circle packing mappings to the Riemann mapping in the new setting of discrete conformality. The proof follows the same strategy that Rodin-Sullivan used by establishing a rigidity result for regular hexagonal triangulations of the plane and estimating the quasiconformal constants associated to the discrete conformal maps.

Abstract:In \cite{Luo0}, Feng Luo conjectured that the discrete Yamabe flow will converge to the constant curvature PL-metric after finite number of surgeries on the triangulation. In this paper, we prove that the flow can always be extended (without surgeries) to a solution that converges exponentially fast to the constant curvature PL-metric.

Abstract:For connected reductive groups together with a Frobenius root $F$ that preserves the set of simple reflections, we show that for every tuple $(w_1,\ldots, w_r)$ of Weyl group elements there exists a minimal length element in an $F$-conjugacy class in $W$ such that the cohomology of the structure sheaf and the canonical sheaf for the associated compactified Deligne--Lusztig varieties are isomorphic respectively.

Abstract:We prove a vanishing theorem for the fundamental group of a compact submanifold in a space form, and then present a refined version of Ejiri's rigidity theorem for minimal submanifolds in a sphere. Inspired by the refined Ejiri theorem, we verify a new differentiable sphere theorem for compact submanifolds in space forms. We also show that our differentiable sphere theorem is sharp. We emphasize that our method of Ricci flow in the proof of the sphere theorem seems useful in the study of curvature and topology. Also, we obtain a differentiable pinching theorem for compact submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold.

Abstract:The Delaunay triangulation of a planar point set is a fundamental construct in computational geometry. A simple algorithm to generate it is based on flips of diagonal edges in convex quads. We characterize the effect of a single edge flip in a triangulation on the geometric Laplacian of the triangulation, which leads to a simpler and shorter proof of a theorem of Rippa that the Dirichlet energy of any piecewise-linear scalar function on a triangulation obtains its minimum on the Delaunay triangulation. Using Rippa's theorem, we provide a spectral characterization of the Delaunay triangulation, namely that the spectrum of the geometric Laplacian is minimized on this triangulation. This spectral theorem then leads to a simpler proof of a theorem of Musin that the harmonic index also obtains its minimum on the Delaunay triangulation.

Abstract:Inversive distance circle packing on surfaces was introduced by Bowers-Stephenson as a generalization of Thurston's circle packing and conjectured to be rigid. The infinitesimal and global rigidity of circle packing with nonnegative inversive distance were proved by Guo and Luo respectively. The author proved the global rigidity of circle packing with inversive distance in $(-1,+\infty)$. In this paper, we give a new variational proof of the Bowers-Stephenson conjecture for inversive distance in $(-1,+\infty)$, which simplifies the existing proofs and could be generalized to three dimensional case.

Abstract:We study Thurston's circle packings with obtuse intersection angles on closed surfaces. By using combinatorial Ricci/Calabi flows and variational principle, we extend Thurston's existence theorem for circle packings with non-obtuse intersection angles to those with obtuse intersection angles. As consequences, we generalize the existence and convergence results related to Chow-Luo's combinatorial Ricci flows (J Differ Geom 63(1):97–129, 2018) and Ge's combinatorial Calabi flows (Combinatorial Methods and Geometric Equations, Thesis (Ph.D.), Peking University, Beijing, 2012, Trans Am math Soc 370(2):1377–1391, 2018, Adv Math 333:528–533, 2018).

Abstract:A discrete conformality for hyperbolic polyhedral surfaces is introduced in this paper. This discrete conformality is shown to be computable. It is proved that each hyperbolic polyhedral metric on a closed surface is discrete conformal to a unique hyperbolic polyhedral metric with a given discrete curvature satisfying Gauss-Bonnet formula. Furthermore, the hyperbolic polyhedral metric with given curvature can be obtained using a discrete Yamabe flow with surgery. In particular, each hyperbolic polyhedral metric on a closed surface with negative Euler characteristic is discrete conformal to a unique hyperbolic metric.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate rigidity of geometric and differentiable structures of complete submanifolds via an extrinsic geometrical quantity tau(x) defined by the second fundamental form. We verify a geometric rigidity theorem for complete submanifolds with parallel mean curvature in a unit sphere Sn+P. Inspired by the rigidity theorem, we prove a differentiable sphere theorem for complete submanifolds in Sn+p.
