Abstract:The Rogers–Ramanujan identities and various analogous identities (Gordon, Andrews–Bressoud, Capparelli, etc.) form a family of very deep identities concerned with integer partitions. These identities (written in generating function form) are typically of the form “product side” equals “sum side,” with the product side enumerating partitions obeying certain congruence conditions and the sum side obeying certain initial conditions and difference conditions (along with possibly other restrictions). We use symbolic computation to generate various such sum sides and then use Euler’s algorithm to see which of them actually do produce elegant conjectured product sides. We not only rediscover many of the known identities but also discover some apparently new ones, as conjectures supported by strong mathematical evidence.

Some combinatorial interpretations of the Macdonald identities for affine root systems and Nekrasov--Okounkov type formulas

Abstract:We explore some connections between vectors of integers and integer partitions seen as bi-infinite words. This methodology enables us on the one hand to obtain enumerations connecting products of hook lengths and vectors of integers. This yields on the other hand a combinatorial interpretation of the Macdonald identities for affine root systems of the $7$ infinite families in terms of Schur functions, symplectic and special orthogonal Schur functions. From these results, we are able to derive $q$-Nekrasov--Okounkov formulas associated to each type. The latter for limit cases of $q$ yield Nekrasov--Okounkov type formulas corresponding to all the specializations given by Macdonald.

Abstract:This is the third installment in a series of papers on a one-parameter extension of the Rogers–Ramanujan identities (this extension was discovered independently by Rogers and Ramanujan). In this paper, we report a new proof of this identity. Our key ingredient is the Bridge Lemma, an identity that connects the both sides of the one-parameter refinement, which differ significantly in terms of their complexity.

Abstract:Motivated by Berkovich's nine $q$-binomial identities involving the Legendre symbol $(\frac{d}{3})$, we establish a unified form of $q$-binomial identities of this type through a combinatorial approach. This unified form includes Berkovich's nine identities as special cases. Many such identities can be also deduced from this unified form.

Abstract: Motivated by the recent work of Kachru-Vafa in string theory, we study in Part A of this paper, certain identities involving modular forms, hypergeometric series, and more generally series solutions to Fuchsian equations. The identity which arises in string theory is the simpliest of its kind. There are nontrivial generalizations of the identity which appear new. We give many such examples -- all of which arise in mirror symmetry for algebraic K3 surfaces. In Part B, we study the integrality property of certain $q$-series, known as mirror maps, which arise in mirror symmetry.
Multiple Rogers--Ramanujan type identities for torus links

Abstract:In this paper, we establish simple $k$-fold summation expressions for the Quot and motivic Cohen--Lenstra zeta functions associated with the $(2,2k)$ torus links. Such expressions lead us to some multiple Rogers--Ramanujan type identities and their finitizations, thereby confirming a conjecture of Huang and Jiang. Several other properties of the two zeta functions will be examined as well.

Several new product identities in relation to two-variable Rogers-Ramanujan type sums and mock theta functions

Abstract:Product identities in two variables $x, q$ expand infinite products as infinite sums, which are linear combinations of theta functions; famous examples include Jacobi's triple product identity, Watson's quintuple identity, and Hirschhorn's septuple identity. We view these series expansions as representations in canonical bases of certain vector spaces of quasiperiodic meromorphic functions (related to sections of line and vector bundles), and find new identities for two nonuple products, an undecuple product, and several two-variable Rogers-Ramanujan type sums. Our main theorem explains a correspondence between the septuple product identity and the two original Rogers-Ramanujan identities, involving two-variable analogues of fifth-order mock theta functions. We also prove a similar correspondence between an octuple product identity of Ewell and two simpler variations of the Rogers-Ramanujan identities, which is related to third-order mock theta functions, and conjecture other occurrences of this phenomenon. As applications, we specialize our results to obtain identities for quotients of generalized Dedekind eta functions and mock theta functions.

Abstract:A proof of several identities of Ramanujan involving theta functions of level $7$ is given which uses a specific modular function for $\Gamma_1(7)$ and Klein's projective representation of $PSL(2,7)$ into $PSL(3, \mathbb{C})$. Four identities of Berndt and Zhang are derived as algebraic corollaries of the main proof.

Abstract:Mizuno provided 15 examples of generalized rank three Nahm sums with symmetrizer $\mathrm{diag}(1,2,2)$ which are conjecturally modular. Using the theory of Bailey pairs and some $q$-series techniques, we establish a number of triple sum Rogers--Ramanujan type identities. These identities confirm the modularity of all of Mizuno's examples except for two non-modular cases. We show that the two exceptional cases of Nahm sums are sums of modular forms of weights $0$ and $1$. We also prove Mizuno's conjectural modular transformation formulas for two vector-valued functions consisting of Nahm sums with symmetrizers $\mathrm{diag}(1,1,2)$ and $\mathrm{diag}(1,2,2)$.

Abstract:Mizuno provided 19 examples of generalized rank three Nahm sums with symmetrizer $\mathrm{diag}(1,1,2)$ which are conjecturally modular. We confirm their modularity by establishing Rogers--Ramanujan type identities of index $(1,1,2)$ for these examples. We first reduce these Nahm sums to some double sums or single sums, and then we use known results or apply the theory of Bailey pairs to prove the desired identities. Meanwhile, we generalize some triple sum identities to general multi-sum identities.

Abstract:We give a number field analogue of a result of Ramanujan, Hardy and Littlewood, thereby obtaining a modular relation involving the non-trivial zeros of the Dedekind zeta function. We also provide a Riesz-type criterion for the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis for ζK(s). New elegant transformations are obtained when K is a quadratic extension, one of which involves the modified Bessel function of the second kind.

Abstract:In a sequence of two papers, S. Capparelli, A. Meurman, A. Primc, M. Primc (CMPP) and then M. Primc put forth three remarkable sets of conjectures, stating that the generating functions of coloured integer partition in which the parts satisfy restrictions on the multiplicities admit simple infinite product forms. While CMPP related one set of conjectures to the principally specialised characters of standard modules for the affine Lie algebra $\mathrm{C}_n^{(1)}$, finding a Lie-algebraic interpretation for the remaining two sets remained an open problem. In this paper, we use the work of Griffin, Ono and the fourth author on Rogers-Ramanujan identities for affine Lie algebras to solve this problem, relating the remaining two sets of conjectures to non-standard specialisations of standard modules for $\mathrm{A}_{2n}^{(2)}$ and $\mathrm{D}_{n+1}^{(2)}$. We also use their work to formulate conjectures for the bivariate generating function of one-parameter families of CMPP partitions in terms of Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions. We make a detailed study of several further aspects of CMPP partitions, obtaining (i) functional equations for bivariate generating functions which generalise the well-known Rogers-Selberg equations, (ii) a partial level-rank duality in the $\mathrm{A}_{2n}^{(2)}$ case, and (iii) (conjectural) identities of the Rogers-Ramanujan type for $\mathrm{D}_3^{(2)}$.

Abstract:To every $k$-dimensional modular invariant vector space we associate a modular form on $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ of weight $2k$. We explore number theoretic properties of this form and find a sufficient condition for its vanishing which yields modular identities (e.g., Ramanujan-Watson's modular identities). Furthermore, we focus on a family of modular invariant spaces coming from suitable two-dimensional spaces via the symmetric power construction. In particular, we consider a two-dimensional space spanned by graded dimensions of certain level one modules for the affine Kac-Moody Lie algebra of type $D_4^{(1)}$. In this case, the reduction modulo prime $p=2k+3 \geq 5$ of the modular form associated to the $k$-th symmetric power classifies supersingular elliptic curves in characteristic $p$. This construction also gives a new interpretation of certain modular forms studied by Kaneko and Zagier.

Abstract:Let $r\geq 1$ be a positive integer, $A$ a real positive definite symmetric $r\times r$ matrix, $B$ a vector of length $r$, and $C$ a scalar. Nahm's problem is to describe all such $A,B$ and $C$ with rational entries for which a specific $r$-fold $q$-hypergeometric series (denoted by $f_{A,B,C}(q)$) involving the parameters $A,B,C$ is modular. When the rank $r=2$, Zagier provided eleven sets of examples of $(A,B,C)$ for which $f_{A,B,C}(q)$ is likely to be modular. We present a number of Rogers--Ramanujan type identities involving double sums, which give modular representations for Zagier's rank two examples. Together with several known cases in the literature, we verified ten of Zagier's examples and give conjectural identities for the remaining example.

Convolution identities for divisor sums and modular forms

Abstract:We prove exact identities for convolution sums of divisor functions of the form $\sum_{n_1 \in \mathbb{Z} \smallsetminus \{0,n\}}\varphi(n_1,n-n_1)\sigma_{2m_1}(n_1)\sigma_{2m_2}(n-n_1)$ where $\varphi(n_1,n_2)$ is a Laurent polynomial with logarithms for which the sum is absolutely convergent. Such identities are motivated by computations in string theory and prove and generalize a conjecture of Chester, Green, Pufu, Wang, and Wen from \cite{CGPWW}. Originally, it was suspected that such sums, suitably extended to $n_1\in\{0,n\}$ should vanish, but in this paper we find that in general they give Fourier coefficients of holomorphic cusp forms.
