Abstract:We show that every finite poset is isomorphic to a saturated subset of the spectrum of a Noetherian unique factorization domain. In addition, we show that every finite poset is isomorphic to a saturated subset of the spectrum of a quasi-excellent domain.

Abstract:We demonstrate a class of local (Noetherian) unique factorization domains (UFDs) that are noncatenary at infinitely many places. In particular, if $A$ is in our class of UFDs, then the prime spectrum of $A$ contains infinitely many disjoint (except at the maximal ideal) noncatenary subsets. As a consequence of our result, there are infinitely many height one prime ideals $P$ of $A$ such that $A/P$ is not catenary. We also construct a countable local UFD $A$ satisfying the property that for every height one prime ideal $P$ of $A$, $A/P$ is not catenary.

Abstract:In pursuit of a noncommutative spectrum functor, we argue that the Heyneman-Sweedler finite dual coalgebra can be viewed as a quantization of the maximal spectrum of a commutative affine algebra, integrating prior perspectives of Takeuchi, Batchelor, Kontsevich-Soibelman, and Le Bruyn. We introduce fully residually finite-dimensional algebras A as those with enough finite-dimensional representations to let A ∘ act as an appropriate depiction of the noncommutative maximal spectrum of A; importantly, this class includes affine noetherian PI algebras. In the case of prime affine algebras that are module-finite over their center, we describe how the Azumaya locus is represented in the finite dual. This is used to describe the finite dual of quantum planes at roots of unity as an endeavor to visualize the noncommutative space on which these algebras act as functions. Finally, we discuss how a similar analysis can be carried out for other maximal orders over surfaces.

Abstract:We introduce a family of posets which generate Lie poset subalgebras of $A_{n-1}=\mathfrak{sl}(n)$ whose index can be realized topologically. In particular, if $\mathcal{P}$ is such a \textit{toral poset}, then it has a simplicial realization which is homotopic to a wedge sum of $d$ one-spheres, where $d$ is the index of the corresponding type-A Lie poset algebra $\mathfrak{g}_A(\mathcal{P})$. Moreover, when $\mathfrak{g}_A(\mathcal{P})$ is Frobenius, its spectrum is \textit{binary}; that is, consists of an equal number of 0's and 1's. We also find that all Frobenius, type-A Lie poset algebras corresponding to a poset whose largest totally ordered subset is of cardinality at most three have a binary spectrum.

Abstract:We call a poset factorable if its characteristic polynomial has all positive integer roots. Inspired by inductive and divisional freeness of a central hyperplane arrangement, we introduce and study the notion of inductive posets and their superclass of divisional posets. It then motivates us to define the so-called inductive and divisional abelian (Lie group) arrangements, whose posets of layers serve as the main examples of our posets. Our first main result is that every divisional poset is factorable. Our second main result shows that the class of inductive posets contains strictly supersolvable posets, the notion recently introduced due to Bibby and Delucchi (2022). This result can be regarded as an extension of a classical result due to Jambu and Terao (1984), which asserts that every supersolvable hyperplane arrangement is inductively free. Our third main result is an application to toric arrangements, which states that the toric arrangement defined by an arbitrary ideal of a root system of type $A$, $B$ or $C$ with respect to the root lattice is inductive.

Abstract:Let S be a pomonoid and I a proper right ideal of S. In a previous paper, using the amalgamated coproduct A(I) of two copies of S S over I, we were able to solve one of the problems posed in S. Bulman-Fleming et al. (Commun. Algebra 34:1291–1317, 2006). In the present paper, we investigate further flatness properties of A(I). We also solve another problem stated in the paper cited above. Namely, we determine the condition under which Rees factor S-posets have property (P w ).

Abstract:We show that all formal power series with integer coefficients and constant term $1$ are precisely the rank-generating functions of Schur-positive upho posets, thereby resolving the main conjecture proposed by Gao, Guo, Seetharaman, and Seidel. To achieve this, we construct a bijection between finitary colored upho posets and atomic, left-cancellative, invertible-free monoids, which restricts to a correspondence between $\mathbb{N}$-graded colored upho posets and left-cancellative homogeneous monoids. Furthermore, we introduce semi-upho posets and develop a convolution operation on colored upho posets with colored semi-upho posets within this monoid-theoretic framework.

Abstract:We develop an alternative approach to the homological spectrum through the lens of definable subcategories. This culminates in a proof that the homological spectrum is homeomorphic to a quotient of the Ziegler spectrum. Along the way, we characterise injective objects in homological residue fields in terms of the definable subcategory corresponding to a given homological prime. We use these results to give a purity perspective on the relationship between the homological and Balmer spectrum.

Purity for Perfectoidness

Abstract:There has been a long-standing question about whether being perfectoid for an algebra is local in the analytic topology. We provide affirmative answers for the algebras (e.g., over $\overline{\mathbb{Z}_p}$) whose spectra are inverse limits of semi-stable affine schemes. In fact, we established a valuative criterion for such an algebra being perfectoid, saying that it suffices to check the perfectoidness of the stalks of the associated Riemann-Zariski space. Combining with Gabber-Ramero's computation of differentials of valuation rings, we obtain a differential criterion for perfectoidness. We also establish a purity result for perfectoidness when the limit preserves generic points of the special fibres.

Abstract:Aharoni and Korman (Order 9 (1992) 245--253) have conjectured that every ordered set without infinite antichains possesses a chain and a partition into antichains so that each part intersects the chain. The conjecture is verified for posets whose incomparability graph is locally finite. It follows that the conjecture is true for $(3 + 1)$-free posets with no infinite antichains.

A Universal Property of the Spectrum of a Ring and the Semiring of its Ideals

Abstract:Arithmetic valuations are intimately connected with the structure of the ideals of a commutative ring. We show how the generalized idempotent semiring valuations of Jeffrey and Noah Giansiracusa can be used to make this connection explicit. Through this generalized valuation theory sufficiently complete positive valuations give rise to Galois correspondences with the lattice of ideals of a commutative ring. Up to isomorphism the semiring of ideals of a commutative ring can be defined as a universal factoring semiring for positive valuations. We then further show that this valuation theory can formally connect Joyal's \textit{notion de zéros} and universal property of the spectrum of a ring to arithmetic valuation theory. We show that up to isomorphism as a coframe, the closed Zariski topology on a spectrum of a commutative ring can be defined as the universal factoring semiring of additively and multiplicatively idempotent valuations.

Topological Noetherianity of polynomial functors II: base rings with Noetherian spectrum

Abstract:In a previous paper, the third author proved that finite-degree polynomial functors over infinite fields are topologically Noetherian. In this paper, we prove that the same holds for polynomial functors from free R-modules to finitely generated R-modules, for any commutative ring R whose spectrum is Noetherian. As Erman-Sam-Snowden pointed out, when applying this with R = Z to direct sums of symmetric powers, one of their proofs of a conjecture by Stillman becomes characteristic-independent. Our paper advertises and further develops the beautiful but not so well-known machinery of polynomial laws. In particular, to any finitely generated R-module M we associate a topological space, which we show is Noetherian when Spec ( R ) is; this is the degree-zero case of our result on polynomial functors.

Abstract:It is proved that every Bézout domain admits an embedding into an elementary divisor domain with the same divisibility group. So the prime spectrum of a Bézout domain is homeomorphic to the prime spectrum of an elementary divisor domain. Together with an earlier result, it follows that a topological space is homeomorphic to the maximal spectrum of an elementary divisor domain if and only if it is a serial quasi-compact -space.

Perfectoid pure singularities

Abstract:Fix a prime number $p$. Inspired by the notion of $F$-pure or $F$-split singularities, we study the condition that a Noetherian ring with $p$ in its Jacobson radical is pure inside some perfectoid (classical) ring, a condition we call \emph{perfectoid pure}. We also study a related a priori weaker condition which asks that $R$ is pure in its absolute perfectoidization, a condition we call \emph{lim-perfectoid pure}. We show that both these notions coincide when $R$ is LCI. Mixed characteristic analogs of $F$-injective and Du Bois singularities are also explored. We study these notions of singularity, proving that they are weakly normal and that they are Du Bois after inverting $p$. We also explore the behavior of perfectoid singularities under finite covers and their relation to log canonical singularities. Finally, we prove an inversion of adjunction result in the LCI setting, and use it to prove that many common examples are perfectoid pure.

Posets arising from decompositions of objects in a monoidal category

Abstract:Given a symmetric monoidal category $C$ with product $\sqcup$, where the neutral element for the product is an initial object, we consider the poset of $\sqcup$-complemented subobjects of a given object $X$. When this poset has finite height, we define decompositions and partial decompositions of $X$ which are coherent with $\sqcup$, and order them by refinement. From these posets, we define complexes of frames and partial bases, augmented Bergman complexes and related ordered versions. We propose a unified approach to the study of their combinatorics and homotopy type, establishing various properties and relations between them. Via explicit homotopy formulas, we will be able to transfer structural properties, such as Cohen-Macaulayness.

Localization of unique factorization semidomains

Abstract:A semidomain is a subsemiring of an integral domain. Within this class, a unique factorization semidomain (UFS) is characterized by the property that every nonzero, nonunit element can be factored into a product of finitely many prime elements. In this paper, we investigate the localization of semidomains, focusing specifically on UFSs. We demonstrate that the localization of a UFS remains a UFS, leading to the conclusion that a UFS is either a unique factorization domain or is additively reduced. In addition, we provide an example of a subsemiring $\mathfrak{S}$ of $\mathbb{R}$ such that $(\mathfrak{S}, \cdot)$ and $(\mathfrak{S}, +)$ are both half-factorial, shedding light on a conjecture posed by Baeth, Chapman, and Gotti.

Semi-Invariant Rings: UFD and Codimension One Orbits

Abstract:Let $A$ be a finite dimensional associative $\mathbb{K}$-algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic zero. To $A$, we can associate its basic form that is given by a quiver $Q = (Q_0, Q_1)$ with an admissible ideal $R$. For a dimension vector $\beta$, we consider an irreducible component $\mathcal{C}$ of the module variety of $\beta$-dimensional representations of $A$. The reductive group ${\rm GL}_\beta(\mathbb{K}):= \prod_{i \in Q_0}{\rm GL}_{\beta_i}(\mathbb{K})$ acts on $\mathcal{C}$ by change of basis, and has a unique closed orbit. We consider the corresponding ring of semi-invariants ${\rm SI}(Q, \mathcal{C})$. We prove that if $\mathcal{C}$ is factorial and has maximal orbits of codimension one, then ${\rm SI}(Q, \mathcal{C})$ is a complete intersection and is not multiplicity free. If $\mathcal{C}$ is not factorial, then this conclusion does not necessarily hold. We present examples showing that the codimension of the complete intersection can be arbitrarily large. Finally, we interpret our results in the case of hereditary algebras.

Local symmetries in partially ordered sets

Abstract:Partially ordered sets (posets) have a universal appearance as an abstract structure in many areas of mathematics. Though, even their explicit enumeration remains unknown in general, and only the counts of all partial orders on sets of up to 16 unlabelled elements have been calculated to date, see sequence A000112 in the OEIS. In this work, we study automorphisms of posets in order to formulate a classification by local symmetries. These symmetries give rise to a division operation on the set of all posets and lead us to the construction of symmetry classes that are easier to characterise and enumerate. Additionally to the enumeration of symmetry classes, I derive polynomial expressions that count certain subsets of posets with a large number of layers (a large height). As an application in physics, I investigate local symmetries (or rather their lack of) in causal sets, which are discrete spacetime models used as a candidate framework for quantum gravity.
