Abstract:Sufficient conditions are obtained under which the semigroup ring of a semigroup, in particular, of an inverse semigroup, is weakly regular. For some inverse semigroups and some orthodox semigroups, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the weak regularity of the semigroup rings are found. A problem is mentioned especially which is much more difficult for weak regularity than for regularity. Only a partial solution of this problem is given for weak regularity.

Abstract:We exhibit a finitely presented group whose second cohomology contains a weakly bounded, but not bounded, class. As an application, we disprove a long-standing conjecture of Gromov about bounded primitives of differential forms on universal covers of closed manifolds.

Counter Example to a Strong Matroid Minor Conjecture

Abstract:The main result of this note asserts that a strong form of the Matroid Minor Conjecture due to J. Draisma is not true, i.e., there exist properly ascending chains of $S_\infty$-stable ideals in the affine coordinate ring of the affine infinite Grassmannian, where $S_\infty$ is the infinite symmetric group. In fact, we explicitly construct such an ascending chain. His conjectures on topological noetherian property for the affine infinite Grassmannian remain open though.

Abstract:We define a new class of rings parameterized by binary forms of a certain type, and give an effective lower bound for the number of such rings whose discriminant is less than a bound $X$. We also obtain a lower bound for the number of number fields whose ring of integers lies in the above class and whose discriminant is less than a bound $X$. Our results improve an estimate of Bhargava-Shankar-Wang in \cite{bhargava2022squarefree}. In particular we show the following: $\bullet$ When $n\ge 4,$ the number of rings of rank $n$ over $\mathbb{Z}$ with discriminant less than or equal to $X$ is $$\gg_n X^{\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{n-\frac{4}{3}}}.$$ $\bullet$ When $n\ge 6,$ the number of number fields of degree $n$ with discriminant less than $X$ is $$\gg_{n,\epsilon} X^{\frac{1}{2} +\frac{1}{n-1} + \frac{(n-3)r_n}{(n-2)(n-1)}-\epsilon}$$ where $r_n=\frac{\eta_n}{n^2-4n+3-2\eta_n (n+\frac{2}{n-2})}$ and where $\eta_n$ is $\frac{1}{5n}$ if $n$ is odd and is $\frac{1}{88n^6}$ when $n$ is even.

Abstract:In this note we give a simple proof of the fact that local rings of dimension one have the strong uniform Artin-Rees property. Moreover, we give two examples of rings of dimension two where the property fails.

Abstract:In 1994, Bergelson and Hindman established a remarkable result for IP* sets: for any IP* set A and any sequence l in N, there exists a sum subsystem l ′ of l such that all finite sums and finite products of l ′ are contained in A . There are many studies about this result, where Hindman and Strauss extended it to general weak rings. In this paper, we introduce two algebraic structures - adequate partial weak rings and adequate poor rings, which are more general than weak rings. And we establish that result in both structures. Moreover, we also obtain Hindman theorem with two operations in these two structures.

Abstract:We introduce a method for studying the Lefschetz properties for $k[x,y]$-modules based on the Lindström-Gessel-Viennot Lemma. In particular, we prove that certain modules over Artinian Clements-Lindström rings in characteristic zero have the strong Lefschetz property. In particular, we show that every homogeneous idea in a Clements-Lindström ring of embedding dimension two has the strong Lefschetz property. As an application, we study the strong Lefschetz property of type two monomial ideals of codimension three.

Abstract:The aim of these notes is to study some of the structural aspects of the ring of arithmetical functions. We prove that this ring is neither Noetherian nor Artinian. Furthermore, we construct various types of prime ideals. We show arithmetic ring has infinite Krull dimension and its associated prime ideal set is nonempty.

Abstract:Weakly stable torsion classes were introduced by the author and Yekutieli to provide a torsion theoretic characterisation of the notion of weak proregularity from commutative algebra. In this paper we investigate weakly stable torsion classes, with a focus on aspects related to localisation and completion. We characterise when torsion classes arising from left denominator sets and idempotent ideals are weakly stable. We show that every weakly stable torsion class T can be associated with a dg ring AT; in well behaved situations there is a homological epimorphism A → AT. We end by studying torsion and completion with respect to a single regular and normal element.

The Total Rank Conjecture in Characteristic Two

Abstract:The Total Rank Conjecture is a coarser version of the Buchsbaum-Eisenbud-Horrocks conjecture which, loosely stated, predicts that modules with large annihilators must also have ``large'' syzygies. This conjecture was proved by the second author for rings of odd characteristic by taking advantage of the Adams operations on the category of perfect complexes with finite length homology. In this paper, we prove a stronger form of the Total Rank Conjecture for rings of characteristic two. This result may be seen as evidence that the Generalized Total Rank Conjecture (which is known to be false in odd characteristic) actually holds in characteristic two. We also formulate a meaningful extension of the Total Rank Conjecture over non Cohen-Macaulay rings and prove that this conjecture holds for any ring containing a field (independent of characteristic).

Abstract:We provide some counterexamples showing that some concepts of positive dependence are strictly stronger than others. In particular we will settle two questions posed by Pemantle (J. Math. Phys. 41 (2000) 1371) and Pellerey (Personal communication, 2002) concerning respectively association versus weak association, weak association versus supermodular dependence, and supermodular dependence versus positive orthant dependence.

Abstract:This paper starts by showing that for algebras in a certain class the concepts of weak nilpotency and nilpotency coincide. It goes on to describe some solvability and nilpotency properties of bicommutative algebras, of assosymmetric and of Novikov algebras and to introduce a Frattini theory for all of them. A description is also given for semisimple bicommutative algebras over any field.

Abstract:A new notion which is called weakly stable module is introduced in this article. It is a nontrivial generalization of the modules with endomorphism rings having stable range one. We deduce that weakly stable projective modules have the cancellation property, and so any commutative hereditary ring has the cancellation property, i.e., if R is a commutative hereditary ring, then for any R-modules B and C , R circle plus B congruent to R circle plus C implies B congruent to C .

Abstract:This article investigates strong generation within the module category of a commutative Noetherian ring. We establish a criterion for such rings to possess strong generators within their module category, addressing a question raised by Iyengar and Takahashi. As a consequence, this not only demonstrates that any Noetherian quasi-excellent ring of finite Krull dimension satisfies this criterion, but applies to rings outside this class. Additionally, we identify explicit strong generators within the module category for rings of prime characteristic, and establish upper bounds on Rouquier dimension in terms of classical numerical invariants for modules.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we establish fundamental results concerning non-abelian extensions of Lie rings. Specifically, we demonstrate one-to-one correspondence between the equivalence classes of non-abelian extensions of Lie ring [math] by Lie ring [math] and the elements of second cohomology group [math], where [math] acts on [math]. Additionally, we provide necessary and sufficient condition under which such extensions exist, particularly when a specific abstract kernel is involved.

Abstract:S. K. Berberian raised the open problem ``Can every weakly Rickart $*$-ring be embedded in a Rickart $*$-ring? with preservation of right projections?" Berberian has given a partial solution to this problem. Khairnar and Waphare raised a similar problem for p.q.-Baer $*$-rings and gave a partial solution. In this paper, we give more general partial solutions to both the problems.
