Abstract:In this paper, we study the $SL_2(\mathbb{C})$ character variety of a hyperbolic link in $S^3$. We analyze a special smooth projective variety $Y^h$ arising from some 1-dimensional irreducible slices on the character variety. We prove that a natural symbol obtained from these 1-dimensional slices is a torsion in $K_2({\mathbb C}(Y^h))$. By using the regulator map from $K_2$ to the corresponding Deligne cohomology, we get some variation formulae on some Zariski open subset of $Y^h$. From this we give some discussions on a possible parametrized volume conjecture for both hyperbolic links and knots.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the geometry of the moduli space of representations of the fundamental group of the complement of a torus link into an algebraic group G, an algebraic variety known as the G-character variety of the torus link. These torus links are a family of links in the 3-dimensional sphere formed by stacking several copies of torus knots. We develop an intrinsic stratification of the variety that allows us to relate its geometry with the one of the underlying torus knot. Using this information, we explicitly compute the E-polynomial associated to the Hodge structure of these varieties for $G=SL_2(\mathbb{C})$ and $SL_3(\mathbb{C})$, for an arbitrary torus link, showing an unexpected relation with the number of strands of the link.

Stratification of $\mathrm{SU}(r)$-character varieties of twisted Hopf links

Abstract:We describe the geometry of the character variety of representations of the fundamental group of the complement of a Hopf link with $n$ twists, namely $\Gamma_{n}=\langle x,y \,| \, [x^n,y]=1 \rangle$ into the group $\mathrm{SU}(r)$. For arbitrary rank, we provide geometric descriptions of the loci of irreducible and totally reducible representations. In the case $r = 2$, we provide a complete geometric description of the character variety, proving that this $\mathrm{SU}(2)$-character variety is a deformation retract of the larger $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})$-character variety, as conjectured by Florentino and Lawton. In the case $r = 3$, we also describe different strata of the $\mathrm{SU}(3)$-character variety according to the semi-simple type of the representation.

Abstract:By introducing a modified diagonal matrix h, the properties of Markov moves are examined for the non-standard representations of the braid group associated with the fundamental representations of A(n), B(n), C(n) and D(n). It is shown that link polynomials can be constructed from those braid group representations. The skein relations of link polynomials are obtained explicitly.

Abstract:In this paper, by using the regulator map of Beilinson-Deligne, we show that the quantization condition posed by Gukov is true for the SL_2(\mathbb{C}) character variety of the hyperbolic knot in S^3. Furthermore, we prove that the corresponding \mathbb{C}^{*}-valued 1-form is a secondary characteristic class (Chern-Simons) arising from the vanishing first Chern class of the flat line bundle over the smooth part of the character variety, where the flat line bundle is the pullback of the universal Heisenberg line bundle over \mathbb{C}^{*}\times \mathbb{C}^{*}. The second part of the paper is to define an algebro-geometric invariant of 3-manifolds resulting from the Dehn surgery along a hyperbolic knot complement in $S^3$. We establish a Casson type invariant for these 3-manifolds. In the last section, we explicitly calculate the character variety of the figure-eight knot and discuss some applications.

Abstract:For any branched double covering of compact Riemann surfaces, we consider the associated character varieties that are unitary in the global sense, which we call $\text{GL}_n\rtimes\!<\!\sigma\!>\!~$-character varieties. We restrict the monodromies around the ramification points to generic semi-simple conjugacy classes contained in $\text{GL}_n\sigma$, and compute the E-polynomials of these character varieties using the character table of $\text{GL}_n(q)\rtimes\!<\!\sigma\!>\!$. The result is expressed as the inner product of certain symmetric functions associated to the wreath products $(\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})^N\rtimes\mathfrak{S}_N$. We are then led to a conjectural formula for the mixed Hodge polynomial, which involves (modified) Macdonald polynomials and wreath Macdonald polynomials.

Abstract:Using symmetrized Grassmannians we give an algebraic geometric presentation, in the level of classifying spaces, of the Chern character and its relation to Chern classes. This allows one to define, for any projective variety $X$, a Chern character map from the "holomorphic K-theory of X to its morphic cohomology (introduced by Friedlander and Lawson). The holomorphic K-theory of $X$, introduced by Lawson, Lima-Filho and Michelsohn and also by Friedlander and Walker, is defined in terms a group-completion of the space of algebraic morphisms from X into BU. It has been further studied by the authors in a companion paper. Holomorphic K-theory sits between algebraic K-theory and topological K-theory in the same way that morphic cohomology sits between motivic cohomology and ordinary cohomology. Our constructions provide a bridge between these two worlds. We also realize Chern classes in the case where X is smooth, and establish a universal relation between the Chern character and the Chern classes. We use classical constructions with algebraic cycles and infinite symmetric products of projective spaces. The latter can be seen as the classifying space for motivic cohomology, and under this perspective our constructions are essentially motivic.
Chern-Dold character in complex cobordisms and theta divisors

Abstract:We show that the smooth theta divisors of general principally polarised abelian varieties can be chosen as irreducible algebraic representatives of the coefficients of the Chern-Dold character in complex cobordisms and describe the action of the Landweber-Novikov operations on them. We introduce a quantisation of the complex cobordism theory with the dual Landweber-Novikov algebra as the deformation parameter space and show that the Chern-Dold character can be interpreted as the composition of quantisation and dequantisation maps. Some smooth real-analytic representatives of the cobordism classes of theta divisors are described in terms of the classical Weierstrass elliptic functions. The link with the Milnor-Hirzebruch problem about possible characteristic numbers of irreducible algebraic varieties is discussed.

Abstract:We study the representation theory of the fundamental group of the complement of a Hopf link with n twists. A general framework is described to analyze the $SL_r(C)$-representation varieties of these twisted Hopf links as byproduct of a combinatorial problem and equivariant Hodge theory. As application, close formulas of their E-polynomials are provided for ranks 2 and 3, both for the representation and character varieties.

Abstract:We study the (relative) SL(2,C) character varieties of the four-holed sphere and the action of the mapping class group on it. We describe a domain of discontinuity for this action, and, in the case of real characters, show that this domain of discontinuity may be non-empty on the components where the relative euler class is non-maximal.

Abstract:We generalize a theorem of Burde and de Rham characterizing the zeros of the Alexander polynomial. Given a representation of a knot group $\pi$, we define an extension of $\pi$, the Crowell group. For any GL(n,C) representation of $\pi$, the zeros of the associated twisted Alexander polynomial correspond to representations of the Crowell group into the group of dilations of C^n.

Abstract:We extend the techniques in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2209.08865" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2209.08865">arXiv:2209.08865</a>(1) to the non-simply-laced situation, and calculate explicit special values of parabolic affine inverse Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for subregular nilpotent orbits. We thus obtain explicit character formulas for certain irreducible representations of affine Lie algebras. As particular cases, we compute characters of simple vertex algebras $V_{k}(\mathfrak{g})$ for $k=-1,\ldots,-b$, where $b$ is the largest label of the highest short coroot $\theta^\vee$. Conjecturally, all ordinary modules over $V_{-b}(\mathfrak{g})$ are covered by our computations. As an application, we obtain the explicit formulas for flavoured Schur indices of rank one Argyres-Douglas 4d SCFTs with flavour symmetry $G_2$ and $B_3$. Our results are proved using the geometry of the Springer resolution. We identify the cell quotient of the anti-spherical module over $\widehat{W}$ corresponding to the subregular cell with a certain one-dimensional extension of a module defined by Lusztig. We describe the canonical basis in this module geometrically and present an explicit description of the corresponding objects in the derived category of equivariant coherent sheaves on the Springer resolution. They correspond to irreducible objects in the heart of a certain $t$-structure that we describe using an equivariant version of the derived McKay correspondence.

The Character Map in Equivariant Twistorial Cohomotopy

Abstract:The fundamental notion of non-abelian generalized cohomology gained recognition in algebraic topology as the non-abelian Poincaré-dual to "factorization homology", and in theoretical physics as providing flux-quantization for non-linear Gauss laws. However, already the archetypical example -- unstable Cohomotopy, first studied almost a century ago by Pontrjagin -- may remain underappreciated as a cohomology theory. In illustration and amplification of its cohomological nature, we construct the non-abelian generalization of the Chern character map on $\mathbb{Z}_2$-equivariantized 7-Cohomotopy -- in fact on its "twistorial" version classified by complex projective 3-space -- essentially by computing its equivariant Sullivan model, and we highlight some interesting integral cohomology classes which are extracted this way. We end with an outlook on the application of this result to the rigorous deduction of anyonic quantum states on M5-branes wrapped over Seifert 3-orbifolds.

Abstract:Let X be a 2-sphere with n punctures. We classify all conjugacy classes of Zariski-dense representations $$\rho: \pi_1(X)\to SL_2(\mathbb{C})$$ with finite orbit under the mapping class group of X, such that the local monodromy at one or more punctures has infinite order. We show that all such representations are "of pullback type" or arise via middle convolution from finite complex reflection groups. In particular, we classify all rank 2 local systems of geometric origin on the projective line with n generic punctures, and with local monodromy of infinite order about at least one puncture.
