Abstract:Some scholars argue that the maintenance of social networks contributes to the lower prevalence of deviant behaviours and fewer adverse health effects among migrants. But others suggest that if migrants are embedded in homogeneous networks, such networks may enable the formation of a deviant subculture that promotes risk taking. Facing this dilemma, the present study investigates how native-place networks influence sexual risk behaviours (SRBs), specifically the pursuit of commercial sex and condomless sex with sex workers, for male rural-urban migrants. Using a multi-stage sample of 1,591 male rural-urban migrants from two major migrant-influx cities within China, we assessed migrants' general friend network ties and native place networks (townsmen in migrants' local networks) and tested their associations with SRBs. Multiple logistic regression analyses indicate that native-place network ties are associated with paying for sex (OR = 1.33, p < 0.001) and condomless sex with sex workers (OR = 1.33, p < 0.001), while general friendship network ties reduce such risks (OR = 0.74, p < 0.001; OR = 0.84, p < 0.01) even after controlling for demographic background, housing conditions, length of stay, health beliefs and behaviours, and spousal companionship. Our findings suggest that native-place networks among Chinese male rural-urban migrants are associated with SRBs because homogenous networks may serve as a platform for the emergence of a deviant subculture that promotes risk behaviours.A Virtual Abstract of this paper is available at: https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=3Wg20I6j8XQ.

Abstract:AIMS AND OBJECTIVES The Aims of this study were to explore the effects of nurses' attitudes and intentions regarding medication administration error reporting on actual reporting behaviours. BACKGROUND Underreporting of medication errors is still a common occurrence. Whether attitude and intention towards medication administration error reporting connect to actual reporting behaviours remain unclear. DESIGN This study used a cross-sectional design with self-administered questionnaires, and the theory of planned behaviour was used as the framework for this study. METHODS A total of 596 staff nurses who worked in general wards and intensive care units in a hospital were invited to participate in this study. The researchers used the instruments measuring nurses' attitude, nurse managers' and co-workers' attitude, report control, and nurses' intention to predict nurses' actual reporting behaviours. Data were collected from September-November 2013. Path analyses were used to examine the hypothesized model. RESULTS Of the 596 nurses invited to participate, 548 (92%) completed and returned a valid questionnaire. The findings indicated that nurse managers' and co-workers' attitudes are predictors for nurses' attitudes towards medication administration error reporting. Nurses' attitudes also influenced their intention to report medication administration errors; however, no connection was found between intention and actual reporting behaviour. CONCLUSIONS The findings reflected links among colleague perspectives, nurses' attitudes, and intention to report medication administration errors. The researchers suggest that hospitals should increase nurses' awareness and recognition of error occurrence. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE Regardless of nurse managers' and co-workers' attitudes towards medication administration error reporting, nurses are likely to report medication administration errors if they detect them. Management of medication administration errors should focus on increasing nurses' awareness and recognition of error occurrence.
Pathways to Buying Sex among Migrant Labors: the Mediatory Role of Family Bonds and Peer Deviance on Social Network Homogeneity

Abstract:Family bonds and deviant peers constitute two important competing forces of socialization in migrants' social life. This study furthers the theory of family-peer relationship by arguing that migrants' social network homogeneity shapes the development of family bonds and peer deviance and is ultimately associated with increased likelihood of sexual risk behaviors. Applying regression techniques and structural equation modeling with bootstrapped estimates to survey data collected in 2011 among male Chinese migrant labors, this study found that 1) network homogeneity in terms of homeplace and occupation is associated with sexual risk behaviors, and 2) at least half portion of such association is significantly mediated by family bonds and peer deviance.
Are social supports always protective? A seven-city study on heavy drinking among sexual and gender minority young adults experiencing homelessness

Abstract:Purpose: Sexual and gender minority (SGM) young adults are disproportionately impacted by homelessness and heavy drinking (i.e., having five or more drinks of alcohol in a row within a couple of hours). Social support, in general, is protective in reducing individuals' risk of heavy drinking. However, whether and how support from different sources may have different implications on heavy drinking among SGM young adults experiencing homelessness (SGM-YAEH) remains unclear. Informed by the risk amplification and abatement model (RAAM), this study examined the associations between support sources and heavy drinking among SGM-YAEH. Methods: A purposive sample of SGM-YAEH (N=425) recruited in homeless service agencies from seven major cities in the U.S. completed a self-administered computer-assisted anonymous survey. This survey covered heavy drinking behaviors and social network properties. Logistic regression models were conducted to identify social support sources associated with SGM-YAEH's heavy drinking. Results: Over 40 % of SGM-YAEH were involved in heavy drinking in the past 30 days. Receiving support from street-based peers (OR=1.9; 95 % CI=1.1, 3.2) and home-based peers (OR=1.7; 95 % CI=1.0, 2.8) were each positively associated with SGMYAEH heavy drinking risks. Conclusion: This study was not able to identify the protective role social supports may play in reducing SGM-YAEH's heavy drinking. Furthermore, receiving support from network members was correlated with elevated heavy drinking risks among this population. As heavy drinking prevention programs develop interventions: they should use affirming and trauma approaches to promote protective social ties, as research points to its association in reducing alcohol use disparities among SGM-YAEH.
Sexual risk, substance use, mental health, and trauma experiences of gang-involved homeless youth

Abstract:This study examined the associations of sexual risk behaviors, substance use, mental health, and trauma with varying levels of gang involvement in a sample of Los Angeles-based homeless youths. Data were collected from 505 homeless youths who self-reported various health information and whether they have ever identified as or been closely affiliated with a gang member. Multivariable logistic regression assessed associations of lifetime gang involvement with risk taking behaviors and negative health outcomes. Results revealed seventeen percent of youths have ever identified as a gang member and 46% as gang affiliated. Both gang members and affiliates were at greater risk of many negative behaviors than non-gang involved youths. Gang members and affiliates were more likely to report recent methamphetamine use, cocaine use, chronic marijuana use, having sex while intoxicated, and symptoms of depression, symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder. They were also more likely to have experienced childhood sexual abuse and witnessing family violence. Gang members were more likely to ever attempt suicide, experience recent partner violence, and report physical abuse during childhood. Results suggest that lifetime gang involvement is related to a trajectory of negative outcomes and amplified risk for youths experiencing homelessness. Additionally, being closely connected to a gang member appears to have just as much as an impact on risk as personally identifying as a gang member. Given the lack of knowledge regarding the intersection between youth homelessness and gang involvement, future research is needed to inform policies and programs that can address the specific needs of this population.
Nativity Homogeneity in Social Networks and Prostitution Patronage among Male Migrant Laborers

Abstract:Previous studies have repeatedly found the association between network homogeneity based on native-place and sexual risk behaviors among migrants. However, it remains unclear why such a simple numerical property of network composition can be correlated with a sexual risk behavior. Using a dataset (n = 1591) with detailed information on the sexual behaviors among male migrant laborers in the two Chinese provinces with the highest migrant inflows, we confirmed network homogeneity is significantly associated with prostitution patronage. With structural equation modeling, we further found that half of network homogeneity's impact on prostitution patronage is mediated by three factors: peer deviance, family bonds, and hedonistic subcultural beliefs. In addition, network homogeneity's association with hedonistic subcultural beliefs is fully mediated by peer deviance. Although the nativity homogeneity in social networks is still associated with prostitution patronage, more proximate psycho-social factors are found responsible for the network effect. Health policies seeking to integrate migrant laborers, removing the policy barriers against family bonds, and providing alternative sources of social support are highly promising for reducing sexual risk behavior among this population.

Abstract:Despite the increasing knowledge about homeless and street youth in the United States, little is known about the youngest segments of those populations, early adolescents (12 through 15 years of age). Investigated in this study were the demographic and lifestyle characteristics of 245 street youth in California. Measures included demographic characteristics (e.g., gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation), peer group identification, history of homelessness, sources of shelter and money, and perceived health status. Results revealed high rates of problem behaviors and health risks: 34% reported affiliation with gangs, and 40% reported involvement in illegal activities such as prostitution, drug dealing, mugging, or stealing. Early adolescent street youth differed from older street youth on several demographic and lifestyle measures. These data indicated that early adolescents are especially at risk for negative psychological and physical consequences of life on the streets. Further research is needed to understand the unique needs of this understudied population.
Attachment style, childhood adversity, and behavioral risk among young men who have sex with men

Abstract:Purpose: To examine relationships among childhood adversity, attachment style (one's core beliefs regarding the self and others), and the following risk behaviors and contexts among young men who have sex with men (YMSM): homelessness, daily substance use, participation in sex work, involvement in the criminal justice system, and being out of school or work. Methods: Using a targeted sampling approach, we recruited 569 YMSM aged 17-28 years from natural venues in New York City including bars, clubs, parks, and bus stations. Youth completed a structured interview assessing lifetime and current risk and protective contexts and behavior. Data were analyzed using univariate and multivariate statistical methods, including hierarchical logistic regression. Results: After controlling for demographic characteristics and childhood adversity, YMSM with a fearful attachment style were more likely to have been homeless (OR 2.93, 95% CI 1.65-5.18), to have participated in sex work (OR 2.35, 95% CI 1.44-3.85), to use substances daily (OR 2.79, 95% CI 1.29-6.03), to have been involved in the criminal justice system (OR 2.04, 95% CI 1.38-3.01), and to be out of school/work (OR 2.47, 95% CI 1.47-4.15). Three subgroups were particularly vulnerable: YMSM who identified as heterosexual, or bisexual, and/or transgender. Conclusions: A fearful attachment style contributes to some YMSM remaining outside of the protective systems of family, school, and work, and is associated with risky contexts where they are less likely to encounter prosocial peers and adults. Further, it is associated with risk behavior. Although gay-identified youth are generally found to have poor outcomes when compared with the general population of adolescents, in the present report, YMSM who identified as heterosexual were at particular risk. Attachment theory can guide interventions by informing how individuals experience relationships and manage developmental transitions.
Sexual Behaviors of Unmarried Migrants with Different Characteristics

Abstract:Objective: To understand the proportions of having sex-related behaviors and adverse consequences among unmarried migrant youth with different gender, age and occupation, and to explore the possible influencing factors on sexual intercourse. Method: A total of 1 092 15-24-aged unmarried migrant youth in one district of Shanghai, were recruited in a cross-sectional, anonymous and questionnaire-based survey, where information on subjects'sexual and reproductive health knowledge, attitude toward sex-related issues, sexual behaviors and needs were collected. Results: A percent of 22.6 respondents (male: 34.8%, female: 12.7%) reported sexually active, 26.3% and 11.8% of males, and 12.0% and 4.2% of females were engaged and cohabited respectively. A total of 5.1% of respondents (male: 7.9%, female: 2.8%) reported commercial sexual experience, 2.8% of respondents (male: 4.5%, female: 1.5%) had two or more sexual partners in last year. There were 9.4% of respondents (male: 13.7%, female: 6.0%) whose female partners or who had been pregnant. There were 11.5% of respondents (male: 14.9%, female: 8.7%) reported suffering from RTI/STDs in last year. Results of multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that the males and females who were older, had ever seen pornographic videos, or had higher pressure from peers were more likely to have premarital sexual behavior. Besides, the males who had ever asked their parents about sex related questions, and the females who were engaged in service work, left home longer, or hold an open attitude to premarital sex were more likely to have premarital sexual behavior. Conclusion: Premarital sex was common among migrant youth, especially among the male and the females who were engaged in service work, which made them faced high risk of reproductive health problems, such as premarital pregnancy, induced abortion, RTI/STD, etc.
Examination of multidimensional geographic mobility and sexual behaviour among Black cisgender sexually minoritized men in Chicago

Abstract:Black sexually minoritized men (BSMM) are the most likely to acquire HIV in Chicago- a racially segregated city where their daily travel may confer different HIV-related risks. From survey and GPS data among participants of the Neighbourhoods and Networks Cohort Study , we examined spatial (proportion of total activity space away from home), temporal (proportion of total GPS points away from home), and motivation-specific (discordance between residential and frequented sex or socializing neighbourhoods) dimensions of mobility. To identify potential drivers of BSMM's risk, we then examined associations between mobility and sexual behaviours known to cause HIV transmission: condomless anal sex, condomless anal sex with a casual partner, transactional sex, group sex, and sex-drug use. Multivariable logistic regression models assessed associations. Of 269 cisgender BSMM, most were 20-29 years old, identified as gay, and lowincome. On average, 96.9% (Standard Deviation: 3.7%) of participants' activity space and 53.9% (Standard Deviation: 38.1%) of participants' GPS points occurred outside their 800m home network buffer. After covariate adjustment, those who reported sex away from home were twice as likely to report condomless sex (Odds Ratio: 2.02, [95% Confidence Interval (CI): 1.08, 3.78]). Those who reported socializing away from home were four times more likely to have condomless sex with a casual partner (Odds Ratio: 4.16 [CI: 0.99, 29.0]). BSMM are on the move in Chicago, but only motivation-specific mobility may increase HIV transmission risk. Multidimensional investigations of mobility can inform place-based strategies for HIV service delivery.

Abstract:Young adults experiencing homelessness (YAEH) are faced with instabilities in many areas of their lives, including their living situation, employment, and income. Little is known about how the experience of instability in these different domains might be associated with substance use. Leveraging data collected on 276 YAEH in Los Angeles County, regression analyses examine associations between three distinct types of instability (housing, employment, income) and participants' self-reported alcohol use, alcohol consequences, non-cannabis drug use, and substance use symptoms. Results indicated that recent instability in income, employment, and secure housing for those with access to it (but not housing in general or non-secure housing) were significantly associated with greater alcohol/drug use or substance use symptoms. Depression was also found to moderate the association between employment instability and alcohol use. Our findings suggest that efforts to reduce instability in income, employment, and secure housing may have positive benefits for substance using YAEH, especially those with depressive symptoms.

Abstract:This article reports on the findings of a study of the relationship between transnational experiences in the United States (US) and the use of alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana among 7th grade students (n = 1418). The study was guided by a cross-national framework for research on immigrant health and assessed the accumulation of risk factors for transnational adolescents. Data came from a survey conducted in 2017 in Nogales, Mexico. In this study, the last 30-day prevalence of use of alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana among students was 21.7%, 8.3%, and 2.4%, respectively. Most students were born in Nogales (69.6%), while 10.5% were born in the US, 7.5% attended school in the US, and 3.6% engaged in health-related risk behaviors while living in or visiting the US. Students with transnational experiences, such as attending school in the US, reported the highest 30-day prevalence of tobacco (13.3%) and marijuana (9.5%) use. After adjusting for family, school, access to substances and neighborhood violence variables, students who engaged in health-related risk behavior in the US had significantly increased odds of alcohol and marijuana use while later attending school in Mexico. The article discusses the findings from a prevention science perspective and provides implications for policy, practice, and future research on the Mexico-US border region.

Abstract:Background: Youth, including those experiencing housing instability, are among the fastest growing groups of individuals with new STI diagnoses, including HIV. The unpredictable nature of the lives of youth experiencing housing instability often leads to inconsistent or non-existent health care and preventive follow up, leaving gaps in our knowledge about the most prominent needs for intervention. Methods: Using data from the Together 5000 (T5K) study, we examined factors associated with housing instability in a sample of 2,228 youth between the ages of 16-24 who identified as sexual and gender minority (SGM) men having sex with men. Logistic regression was used to assess the most prominent factors associated with housing instability. The model included seven significant factors - former peer victimization, gender, age, sex work, IPV, social support, and health insurance status. Findings: Participants who reported more behavioral risk factors for STI and those who reported sex work in the last three months were more likely to experience housing instability (OR = 2.5 and 2.76 respectively). Youth with higher levels of reported social support, health insurance, and older age were more likely to report stable housing (OR = .98, 1.61, and 1.13 respectively). Surprisingly, youth with stable housing were more likely to report intimate partner violence than those experiencing housing instability (OR = .89). Discussion: Implications for addressing STIs among adolescent SGM men having sex with men are discussed including bolstering support systems and addressing basic needs deficits and trauma associated with sex work and behavioral risk factors for STI.
Drug use patterns and predictors among homeless youth: Results of an ecological momentary assessment

Abstract:Background: Alcohol and drug use is associated with significant morbidity and mortality and is highly prevalent among homeless youth. Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA) have been used to examine the effect of urges on drug use, though not among homeless youth. Objectives: We assessed the patterns of drug use and the correlation between real-time contextual factors and drug use using EMA collected daily. We identified predictors of drug use among a sample of homeless youth 18-25 years old in Houston, Texas. Methods: Homeless youth (n = 66, 62% male) were recruited from a drop-in center between September 2015 and May 2016. We used generalized linear mixed models and cross-validation methods to determine the best predictive model of drug use. Results: The overall drug use was high: 61% and 32% of participants reported using drugs or alcohol at least one day, respectively. Marijuana and synthetic marijuana use (i.e., Kush, K2, incense packs) were reported most frequently; 86% and 13% of the total drug use EMAs, respectfully. Drug use urge was reported on 26% of days and was the highest on drug use days. Drug use was predicted by discrimination, pornography use, alcohol use, and urges for drugs, alcohol, and to steal. Conclusions: EMA can be used to predict drug use among homeless youth. Drug use treatment among homeless youth should address the role of experiencing discrimination, pornography and alcohol use, and urge management strategies on drug use. Research is needed to determine if EMA informed just-in-time interventions targeting these predictors can reduce use.
Social influence on drug use and sexual behaviors among rural LGBTQ+ individuals

Abstract:Background: Traveling to meet sexual partners and substance use are associated with increased risk of infectious disease. It is important to understand what factors may increase substances use or increased infection transmission risk (IITR) sexual behaviors among rural LGBTQ+ individuals. Objective: This study investigates substance use and sexual behaviors associated with increased infection transmission risk among rural LGBTQ+ individuals, and how these are associated with relationship type (friends or romantic partners) and travel distance. Methods: Participants (18 years+, identify as LGBTQ+, and provided a $25 gift card) were recruited from Illinois (25 counties), in 2021. Data included demographics, sexual and drug use behaviors, and assessed how these behaviors varied by relationship type and distance traveled (e.g. when meeting friends out-of-state). Results: The 398 participants were 79.1% White and 12.3% Black. By orientation, 29% heterosexual, 36% gay/lesbian, and 35% bisexual/other. By identity, 43% cisgender male, 51% cisgender female, and 6% genderqueer/other. Alcohol use while visiting out-of-state friends was more frequent among transgender (vs cisgender men; OR = 9.686, 95% confidence interval = 2.123-44.19), and individuals traveling > 1/month (all p < .050). Infection-related sexual behaviors while visiting out-of-state romantic partners was more frequent among prescription medication misuse (all p 1/week (vs < 1/month; OR = 3.399, 95% CI = 1.037-11.144). Conclusion: This study of rural LGBTQ+ identified that alcohol use was associated with travel to visit out-of-state romantic partners, and prescription medication misuse increased infection-related sexual behavior during out-of-state travel. Health professionals can develop substance use and increased infection transmission risk sexual behavior interventions on gender minority groups in rural areas and target those who are traveling.

Are Parental Relationships Always Protective? A Social Network Analysis of Black, Latino, and White Homeless Youth and Sexual Risk-Taking Behaviors

Abstract:Black and Latino homeless youth are at high risk of HIV, and yet no HIV prevention interventions have been specifically designed for these groups. Given the success of parent-child intervention programs for housed Black and Latino youth, this study examined parental relationships that could be leveraged for future HIV prevention efforts targeting minority homeless youth, specifically the associations among presence of parents in social networks, parental influence, and parental support. A convenience sample of Black, Latino, and White homeless youth (N = 754) was recruited from three drop-in centers in Los Angeles. Participants completed a computerized, self-administered questionnaire and an interviewer-led personal social network interview. Multivariate logistic regression models assessed the association between parental relationships and sexual risk behaviors. Forty-five percent (n = 338) of youth identified a parent in their network. Having at least one parent in their network was significantly associated with decreased odds of using a condom for Black and White youth. Black youth were almost four times more likely to report being tested for HIV if they spoke to their parents about sex, whereas Latino youth were 91 % less likely to report being tested for HIV if they talked with their parents about sex. Black youth who identified a parent as a positive influence (i.e., promoting condom use or discouraging multiple partners) were almost four times more likely to have used a condom during their last sexual encounter. Parent-child HIV prevention interventions targeting homeless youth would benefit from culturally tailored adaptations.

Abstract:Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other sexual minority (2S/LGBTQ+) youth between the ages of 14 and 29 experience inequities in homelessness and substance use. Research in this area has explored substance use as a determinant of homelessness and/or as a coping mechanism, yet far less attention has been directed to the potentially generative role of drugs in this marginalizing context. This community-based photovoice study leverages data from 61 semi-structured interviews with 32 2S/LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness and unstable housing to examine how drugs shape their practices and contexts of homemaking. Analysis followed a reflexive thematic approach and was informed theoretically by perspectives on home- and place-making, a momentum-stagnation analytical frame, and a narcofeminist ethics of care. This framing centred attention on the possibilities of what drugs can do for 2S/LGBTQ+ youth in terms of shaping selves, homes, and worlds while homeless. We inductively derived three themes: (i) chasing comforts , (ii) striking down stagnation , and (iii) producing precarity . 2S/LGBTQ+ youth consumed substances in chasing comforts including warmth, relief, and a sense of clarity and being more at ease within the context of homelessness and social and material inequity. Their substance use was also a means for striking down stagnation and engendering momentum as they worked to carve out better homes and futures for themselves Youth frequently drew attention to the temporality and limits of these benefits, however, cautioning that drugs could also turn to producing new forms of precarity that limited what they expected and experienced as possible with respect to their homemaking projects. Findings highlight the generative potential of drugs in the making of home/lessness and provide critical direction for policy and service delivery, including for supports to further consider and attend to the social contexts, meanings, and effects of 2S/LGBTQ+ youths' substance use in connection with homelessness.

Substance use and psychiatric phenotypes of youth experiencing homelessness: A cluster analysis

Abstract:Background and Objectives Due to the complex interactions of psychopathology, psychosocial stressors, and risk behaviors, characterizing high‐risk phenotypic groups of transitional‐age youth experiencing homelessness (TAY‐EH) for targeted interventions remains difficult. We aimed to uncover specific phenotypes of TAY‐EH based upon psychiatric and substance use disorder (SUD) diagnoses, and to assess relationships between these phenotypes and negative outcomes including suicidality and high‐risk behaviors. Methods Participants (N = 140; 57% male, 54% Black) were individuals aged 16–25 years accessing support at a psychosocial agency in the U.S. Northeast. Data were gathered via structured assessment. Cluster analysis identified sub‐groups of TAY‐EH with differing diagnostic patterns. Bivariate analyses examined associations between cluster membership and target outcomes. Results A four‐cluster solution was identified. Cluster 1 (Co‐occurring; N = 33) was characterized by high levels of comorbidity (i.e., major depressive disorder (MDD), SUD, and notable levels of other diagnoses). Clusters 2 (MDD alone; N = 47) and 3 (SUD alone; N = 18) were characterized by single diagnoses. Cluster 4 (None; N = 42) was characterized by low levels of psychopathology. Clusters differed significantly on several variables including suicidality, adverse childhood experiences, and social connectedness. Comorbid MDD and SUD were most strongly associated with high‐risk behaviors and suicidality. Discussion and Conclusions These results highlight the importance of diagnosis and targeted interventions for co‐occurring MDD and SUD to address the crisis of early mortality and other negative outcomes among TAY‐EH. Scientific Significance This study is the first to identify specific high‐risk psychiatric and psychosocial phenotypes among the highly complex group of TAY‐EH based upon structured diagnostic assessments.

Abstract:Background Researchers have examined sub-groups that may exist among young people transitioning from out-of-home care (OHC) using various theoretical models. However, this population group has not been examined for trajectories of homelessness risk. Objectives To examine whether different subtypes of homelessness risk exist among young people transitioning from care and whether these trajectories of homelessness are associated with mental health and substance use disorders. Participants and setting A retrospective population-based cohort study was conducted from a population of 1018 young people (aged 15–18 years) who transitioned from out-of-home in 2013 to 2014 in the state of Victoria, Australia, with follow-up to 2018. Methods Latent Class Growth Analysis was conducted using linked data from homelessness data collections, child protection, mental health information systems, alcohol and drug use, and youth justice information systems. Results Three sub-groups of young people were identified. The 'moving on' group (88 %) had the lowest levels of homelessness, with the slope of this trajectory remaining almost stable. The ' survivors' (7 %) group started off with a high risk of homelessness, followed by a sharp decrease in homelessness risk over time. The ' complex' (5 %) group started off with a low risk of homelessness but faced sharp increases in the risk of homelessness over time. Conclusions Our study demonstrates that subgroups of young people transitioning from care exist with distinct longitudinal trajectories of homelessness, and these classes are associated with different risk factors. Early intervention and different approaches to tackling homelessness should be considered for these three distinct groups before transitioning from care and during the first few years after leaving care.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To comprehend the young migrants' sexual behavior and contraceptive status, and to provide the scientific basis for the health education regarding sex and reproduction for the young migrants in cities.METHODS:An anonymous self-designed structured questionnaire was used to survey 4 389 young migrants in Beijing, Guangzhou and Ji'nan.RESULTS:In the study, 33.4%(1 453/4 354) of the migrant adolescents reported had sexual activity, with the unmarried sex rate of 27.5%(1 066/3 880), and the males accounting for 37.8%(579/1 533) and the females 20.7%(487/2 347); contraception was 44.8%(642/1 432); condoms were the preferred contraceptive measures for floating adolescents; but 31.1%(322/1 034) of the unmarried persons reported experienced pregnancy, and 29.7%(307/1 034) of the unmarried people reported had a history of abortion. Education backgrounds (OR=1.555), marital status (OR=0.432), sex partner number (OR=0.683), knowledge of venereal disease prevention (OR=1.758) were the influence factors.CONCLUSION:Higher sexual and lower birth control utilization rates have triggered young migrants' reproductive health problems. We should promote the floating people' s reproductive health education and make better choices for effective contraceptive measures.
