Abstract:We provide a new general scheme for the geometric quantisation of $\operatorname{Sp}(1)$-symmetric hyper-Kähler manifolds, considering Hilbert spaces of holomorphic sections with respect to the complex structures in the hyper-Kähler 2-sphere. Under properness of an associated moment map, or other finiteness assumptions, we construct unitary quantum (super) representations of central extensions of certain subgroups of Riemannian isometries preserving the 2-sphere, and we study their decomposition in irreducible components. We apply this quantisation scheme to hyper-Kähler vector spaces, the Taub--NUT metric on $\mathbb{R}^4$, moduli spaces of framed $\operatorname{SU}(r)$-instantons on $\mathbb{R}^4$, and partly to the Atiyah--Hitchin manifold of magnetic monopoles in $\mathbb{R}^3$
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about how to perform geometric quantization on hyper - Kahler manifolds with \( \text{Sp}(1) \) symmetry. Specifically, the author proposes a new general scheme for dealing with the geometric quantization problem on such manifolds. The main focus is on the Hilbert space of holomorphic sections corresponding to the complex structure on the hyper - Kahler 2 - sphere, and on this basis, the unitary quantum (super) representations are constructed. These representations are constructed through the group actions that keep the 2 - sphere invariant under the actions of certain Riemannian isometry transformation groups.
### Main Problems and Background
1. **Challenges in Geometric Quantization**:
- Geometric quantization usually requires a polarization, but its existence and uniqueness are often not guaranteed.
- The choice of a specific polarization will severely limit the functions and Hamiltonian flows that can be quantized.
2. **Characteristics of Hyper - Kahler Manifolds**:
- Hyper - Kahler manifolds have a set of complex structures, and these complex structures form a 2 - sphere \( \mathbb{CP}^1 \).
- These complex structures correspond to a series of symplectic forms, but no specific symplectic form is preferentially selected.
3. **Limitations of Existing Methods**:
- Existing geometric quantization methods are usually based on a single symplectic structure and are not suitable for the case of hyper - Kahler manifolds.
- Many interesting symmetries act on the manifolds through hyper - Kahler rotations rather than fixing a certain symplectic structure.
### Main Contributions of the Paper
1. **New Quantization Scheme**:
- A new quantization scheme is proposed, which is suitable for hyper - Kahler manifolds with \( \text{Sp}(1) \) symmetry.
- This scheme takes into account all complex structures on the hyper - Kahler 2 - sphere instead of a single symplectic structure.
2. **Construction of Unitary Quantum Representations**:
- Through appropriate moment maps or other finiteness assumptions, unitary quantum (super) representations are constructed.
- These representations are constructed through the group actions that keep the 2 - sphere invariant under the actions of certain Riemannian isometry transformation groups.
3. **Application Examples**:
- The quantization scheme is applied to specific hyper - Kahler manifolds, such as hyper - Kahler vector spaces, Taub - NUT metrics, framed \( \text{SU}(r) \)-instanton moduli spaces, and part of the Atiyah - Hitchin monopole moduli spaces.
### Mathematical Formulas
- **Hyper - Kahler 2 - Sphere**:
\[
S_{IJK} := \left\{ I_q = aI + bJ + cK \mid q = (a, b, c) \in \mathbb{R}^3, a^2 + b^2 + c^2 = 1 \right\} \subseteq \text{su}(2)_M
\]
- **Symplectic Form**:
\[
\omega_q(v, w) := g(I_q v, w), \quad \text{for } v, w \in TM
\]
- **Hilbert Space**:
\[
H_q := \left\{ \psi \in H^0(M_q, L_q) \mid \int_M h(\psi, \psi) \, d\text{vol} < \infty \right\} \subseteq L^2(M, L)
\]
### Conclusion
This paper solves the problem of geometric quantization on hyper - Kahler manifolds by proposing a new quantization scheme, especially in the case of \( \text{Sp}(1) \) symmetry. This scheme not only provides a theoretical breakthrough but also provides new tools and methods for practical applications.
