(a) For all connected compact Lie groups H and all continuous homomorphisms phi, phi' V H -> G, if phi(h) and phi'(h) are conjugate in G for all h epsilon H, then phi and phi' are G-conjugate. (b) The Lie algebra of G contains no simple ideal of type D-n (n >= 4), E-6, E-7, or E-8.
Conjugacy Class Growth in Virtually Abelian Groups

Abstract:We study the conjugacy class growth function in finitely generated virtually abelian groups. That is, the number of elements in the ball of radius $n$ in the Cayley graph which intersect a fixed conjugacy class. In the class of virtually abelian groups, we prove that this function is always asymptotically equivalent to a polynomial. Furthermore, we show that in any affine Coxeter group, the degree of polynomial growth of a conjugacy class is equivalent to the reflection length of any element of that class.

Abstract:A limit group is the limit of a sequence of conjugates of the diagonal Cartan subgroup, C, of SL(3,R). We show C has 5 possible limit groups, up to conjugacy. Each limit group is determined by an equivalence class of nonstandard triangle, and we give a criterion for a sequence of conjugates of C to converge to each of the 5 limit groups.

Abstract:It is well-known that A10 is the smallest (by order) nonabelian simple group with connected prime graph and L4(4) is the smallest nonabelian simple group of Lie type with connected prime graph. In 2009, A.V. Vasil'ev first dealt with the groups with connected prime graph and proved that Thompson's conjecture holds for A10 and L4(4) (see [1]). In this work, the authors characterize finite simple groups A10 and L4(4) by their orders and largest and smallest conjugacy class sizes greater than 1, and partially generalize A.V. Vasil'ev's work.
Counting conjugacy classes of elements of finite order in exceptional Lie groups

Abstract:This paper continues the study of two numbers that are associated with Lie groups. The first number is $N(G,m)$, the number of conjugacy classes of elements in $G$ whose order divides $m$. The second number is $N(G,m,s)$, the number of conjugacy classes of elements in $G$ whose order divides $m$ and which have $s$ distinct eigenvalues, where we view $G$ as a matrix group in its smallest-degree faithful representation. We describe systematic algorithms for computing both numbers for $G$ a connected and simply-connected exceptional Lie group. We also provide explicit results for all of $N(G,m)$, $N(G_2,m,s)$, and $N(F_4,m,s)$. The numbers $N(G,m,s)$ were previously known only for the classical Lie groups; our results for $N(G,m)$ agree with those already in the literature but are obtained differently.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite almost simple group of Lie type acting faithfully and primitively on a set $\Omega$. We prove an analogue of the Boston--Shalev conjecture for conjugacy classes: the proportion of conjugacy classes of $G$ consisting of derangements is bounded away from zero. This answers a question of Guralnick and Zalesski. The proof is based on results on the anatomy of palindromic polynomials over finite fields (with either reflective symmetry or conjugate-reflective symmetry).

Writing finite simple groups of Lie type as products of subset conjugates

Abstract:The Liebeck-Nikolov-Shalev conjecture [LNS12] asserts that, for any finite simple non-abelian group $G$ and any set $A\subseteq G$ with $|A|\geq 2$, $G$ is the product of at most $N\frac{\log|G|}{\log|A|}$ conjugates of $A$, for some absolute constant $N$. For $G$ of Lie type, we prove that for any $\varepsilon>0$ there is some $N_{\varepsilon}$ for which $G$ is the product of at most $N_{\varepsilon}\left(\frac{\log|G|}{\log|A|}\right)^{1+\varepsilon}$ conjugates of either $A$ or $A^{-1}$. For symmetric sets, this improves on results of Liebeck, Nikolov, and Shalev [LNS12] and Gill, Pyber, Short, and Szabó [GPSS13]. During the preparation of this paper, the proof of the Liebeck-Nikolov-Shalev conjecture was completed by Lifshitz [Lif24]. Both papers use [GLPS24] as a starting point. Lifshitz's argument uses heavy machinery from representation theory to complete the conjecture, whereas this paper achieves a more modest result by rather elementary combinatorial arguments.

Abstract:Let G be a finite group. The question of how certain arithmetical conditions on the lengths of the conjugacy classes of G influence the group structure has been studied by several authors. In this paper we study restrictions on the structure of a finite group in which the lengths of conjugacy classes are not divisible by p(2) for some prime p. We generalise and provide simplified proofs for some earlier results.

Abstract:Let $G = K \rtimes \langle t \rangle $ be a finitely generated group where $K$ is abelian and $\langle t\rangle$ is the infinite cyclic group. Let $ R $ be a finite symmetric subset of $K$ such that $S = \{ (r,1),(0,t^{\pm 1}) \mid r \in R \}$ is a generating set of $G$. We prove that the spherical conjugacy ratio, and hence the conjugacy ratio, of $G$ with respect to $S$ is $0$ unless $G$ is virtually abelian, confirming a conjecture of Ciobanu, Cox and Martino in this case. We also show that the Baumslag--Solitar group $\mathrm{BS}(1,2)$ has a one-sided Følner sequence $F$ such that the conjugacy ratio with respect to $F$ is non-zero, even though $\mathrm{BS}(1,2)$ is not virtually abelian. This is in contrast to two-sided Følner sequences, where Tointon showed that the conjugacy ratio with respect to a two-sided Følner sequence is positive if and only if the group is virtually abelian.

Abstract:Let F be an algebracially closed field of characteristic p > 2, and L be the p n -dimensional Zassenhaus algebra with the maximal invariant subalgebra L 0 and the standard filtration ${\left\{ {L_{i} } \right\}}\left| {^{{p^{n} - 2}}_{{i = - 1}} } \right..$ Then the number of isomorphism classes of simple L-modules is equal to that of simple L 0-modules, corresponding to an arbitrary character of L except when its height is biggest. Abstract:Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a conjugacy class of involutions in a group $G$. We study the graph $\Gamma(\mathcal{C})$ whose vertices are elements of $\mathcal{C}$ with $g,h\in\mathcal{C}$ connected by an edge if and only if $gh\in\mathcal{C}$. For $t\in \mathcal{C}$, we define the component group of $t$ to be the subgroup of $G$ generated by all vertices in $\Gamma(\mathcal{C})$ that lie in the connected component of the graph that contains $t$.

Abstract:There are several graphs defined on groups. Among them we consider graphs whose vertex set consists conjugacy classes of a group $G$ and adjacency is defined by properties of the elements of conjugacy classes. In particular, we consider commuting/nilpotent/solvable conjugacy class graph of $G$ where two distinct conjugacy classes $a^G$ and $b^G$ are adjacent if there exist some elements $x\in a^G$ and $y\in b^G$ such that $\langle x, y \rangle$ is abelian/nilpotent/solvable. After a section of introductory results and examples, we discuss all the available results on connectedness, graph realization, genus, various spectra and energies of certain induced subgraphs of these graphs. Proofs of the results are not included. However, many open problems for further investigation are stated.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a group. A subset $S$ of $G$ is said to normally generate $G$ if $G$ is the normal closure of $S$ in $G.$ In this case, any element of $G$ can be written as a product of conjugates of elements of $S$ and their inverses. If $g\in G$ and $S$ is a normally generating subset of $G,$ then we write $\| g\|_{S}$ for the length of a shortest word in $\mbox{Conj}_{G}(S^{\pm 1}):=\{h^{-1}sh | h\in G, s\in S \, \mbox{or} \, s{^{-1}}\in S \}$ needed to express $g.$ For any normally generating subset $S$ of $G,$ we write $\|G\|_{S} =\mbox{sup}\{\|g\|_{S} \,|\,\, g\in G\}.$ Moreover, we write $\Delta(G)$ for the supremum of all $\|G\|_{S},$ where $S$ is a finite normally generating subset of $G,$ and we call $\Delta(G)$ the conjugacy diameter of $G.$ In this paper, we determine the conjugacy diameters of the semidihedral $2$-groups, the generalized quaternion groups and the modular $p$-groups. This is a natural step after the determination of the conjugacy diameters of dihedral groups, which were recently found by the first author (finite case) and by Kedra, Libman and Martin (infinite case).

Abstract:Given two conjugate mapping classes f and g, we produce a conjugating element w such that |w| < K(|f|+|g|), where |.| denotes the word metric with respect to a fixed generating set, and K is a constant depending only on the generating set. As a consequence, the conjugacy problem for mapping class groups is exponentially bounded.

Abstract:We use the theory of group actions on profinite trees to prove that the fundamental group of a finite, 1-acylindrical graph of free groups with finitely generated edge groups is conjugacy separable. This has several applications: we prove that positive, $C'(1/6)$ one-relator groups are conjugacy separable; we provide a conjugacy separable version of the Rips construction; we use this latter to provide an example of two finitely presented, residually finite groups that have isomorphic profinite completions, such that one is conjugacy separable and the other does not even have solvable conjugacy problem.

Then there exists a non-negative integer k such that k(G) = vertical bar pi(e)(G)vertical bar + k. We call such groups to be co(k) groups. This article classifies all finite co(1) groups.
