Abstract:Two new Elnitsky tilings for Coxeter groups of type $\mathrm{B}$ are displayed as certain subtilings. Additionally, a new tiling for the non-crystallographic Coxeter group of type $\mathrm{H}_3$ is obtained, described as a $\mathrm{D}_6$-subtiling.

Abstract:In [5], Elnitsky constructed three elegant bijections between classes of reduced words for Type $\mathrm{A}$, $\mathrm{B}$ and $\mathrm{D}$ families of Coxeter groups and certain tilings of polygons. The Bruhat Order of a Finite Coxeter Group and Elnitsky Tilings

Abstract:Suppose that $W$ is a finite Coxeter group and $W_J$ a standard parabolic subgroup of $W$. The main result proved here is that for any for any $w \in W$ and reduced expression of $w$ there is an Elnitsky tiling of a $2m$-polygon, where $m = [W : W_J]$. The proof is constructive and draws together the work on E-embedding in \cite{nicolaidesrowley1} and the deletion order in \cite{nicolaidesrowley3}. Computer programs which produce such tilings may be downloaded from \cite{github} and here we also present examples of the tilings for, among other Coxeter groups, the exceptional Coxeter group $\mathrm{E}_8$.

Congruence subgroups and crystallographic quotients of small Coxeter groups

Abstract:Small Coxeter groups are precisely the ones for which the Tits representation is integral, which makes the study of their congruence subgroups relevant. The symmetric group $S_n$ has three natural extensions, namely, the braid group $B_n$, the twin group $T_n$ and the triplet group $L_n$. The latter two groups are small Coxeter groups, and play the role of braid groups under the Alexander-Markov correspondence for appropriate knot theories, with their pure subgroups admitting suitable hyperplane arrangements as Eilenberg-MacLane spaces. In this paper, we prove that the congruence subgroup property fails for infinite small Coxeter groups which are not virtually abelian. As an application, we deduce that the congruence subgroup property fails for both $T_n$ and $L_n$ when $n \ge 4$. We also determine subquotients of principal congruence subgroups of $T_n$, and identify the pure twin group $PT_n$ and the pure triplet group $PL_n$ with suitable principal congruence subgroups. Further, we investigate crystallographic quotients of these two families of small Coxeter groups, and prove that $T_n /PT_n^{'}$, $T_n/T_n^{''}$ and $L_n /PL_n^{'}$ are crystallographic groups. We also determine crystallographic dimensions of these groups and identify the holonomy representation of $T_n/T_n^{''}$.

Abstract:Affine subgroups having the same Coxeter number with the affine Coxeter groups W(An), W(Dn), and W(En) are constructed by graph folding technique. The affine groups W(Cn) and W(Bn) are obtained from the Coxeter groups W(A2n-1) and W(D2n-1) respectively. The affine groups W(E6), W(D6) and W(E8) lead to the affine groups W(F4), W(H3), and W(H4) respectively by graph folding. The latter two are the non-crystallographic groups where W(H3) plays a special role in the quasicrystallographic structures with icosahedral symmetry. A general construction of the affine dihedral subgroups is introduced, some of which, describe the existing planar quasicrystallography. In the construction of the root systems, sets of orthonormal vectors are used but a special non-orthogonal set of vectors in the formulation of the root system of W(An) is also introduced which has practical applications in the construction of the lattices An and An* and their Delone and Voronoi cells.

Abstract:This work applies the modular reduction technique to the Coxeter group of rank 4 having a star diagram with labels 5, 3, and $k = 3, 4, 5, \text{ or } 6$. As moduli, we use the primes in the quadratic integer ring $\mathbb{Z}[\tau]$, where $\tau = \frac{1 + \sqrt{5}}{2}$, the golden ratio. We prove that each reduced group is a C-group, regardless of the prime used in the reduction. We also classify each reduced group as a reflection group over a finite field, whenever applicable.

Abstract:There is a procedure, due to Dani and Levcovitz, for taking a finite simplicial graph (\Gamma) and a subgraph (\Lambda) of its complement, checking some conditions, and, if satisfied, producing a graph (\Delta) such that the right-angled Artin group with presentation graph (\Delta) is a finite index subgroup of the right-angled Coxeter group with presentation graph (\Gamma). They do not tell us how to find (\Lambda), given (\Gamma).

Abstract:Real physical systems with reflective and rotational symmetries such as viruses, fullerenes and quasicrystals have recently been modeled successfully in terms of three-dimensional (affine) Coxeter groups. Motivated by this progress, we explore here the benefits of performing the relevant computations in a Geometric Algebra framework, which is particularly suited to describing reflections. Starting from the Coxeter generators of the reflections, we describe how the relevant chiral (rotational), full (Coxeter) and binary polyhedral groups can be easily generated and treated in a unified way in a versor formalism. In particular, this yields a simple construction of the binary polyhedral groups as discrete spinor groups. These in turn are known to generate Lie and Coxeter groups in dimension four, notably the exceptional groups D4, F4 and H4. A Clifford algebra approach thus reveals an unexpected connection between Coxeter groups of ranks 3 and 4. We discuss how to extend these considerations and computations to the Conformal Geometric Algebra setup, in particular for the non-crystallographic groups, and construct root systems and quasicrystalline point arrays. We finally show how a Clifford versor framework sheds light on the geometry of the Coxeter element and the Coxeter plane for the examples of the twodimensional non-crystallographic Coxeter groups I2(n) and the threedimensional groups A3, B3, as well as the icosahedral group H3. Abstract:The Brattelli diagram associated with a given bicolored Dynkin-Coxeter graph of type $A_n$ determines planar fractal sets obtained by infinite dissections of a given triangle. All triangles appearing in the dissection process have angles that are multiples of $\pi/ (n+1).$ There are usually several possible infinite dissections compatible with a given $n$ but a given one makes use of $n/2$ triangle types if $n$ is even. Jones algebra with index $[ 4 \ \cos^2{\pi \over n+1}]^{-1}$ (values of the discrete range) act naturally on vector spaces associated with those fractal sets. Triangles of a given type are always congruent at each step of the dissection process. In the particular case $n=4$, there are isometric and the whole structure lead, after proper inflation, to aperiodic Penrose tilings. The ``tilings'' associated with other values of the index are discussed and shown to be encoded by equivalence classes of infinite sequences (with appropriate constraints) using $n/2$ digits (if $n$ is even) and generalizing the Fibonacci numbers.

Abstract:A tiling is said to have infinite local complexity (ILC) if it contains infinitely many two-tile patches up to rigid motions. In this work, we provide examples of substitution rules that generate tilings with ILC. The proof relies on Danzer's algorithm, which assumes that the substitution factor is non-Pisot. In addition to ILC, the tiling space of each substitution rule contains a tiling that exhibits global n-fold rotational symmetry, n=13,17,21.

Abstract:In this note, we give a new proof of a result of Matthew Dyer stating that in an arbitrary Coxeter group $W$, every pair $t,t'$ of distinct reflections lie in a unique maximal dihedral reflection subgroup of $W$. Our proof only relies on the combinatorics of words, in particular we do not use root systems at all. As an application, we deduce a new proof of a recent result of Delucchi-Paolini-Salvetti, stating that the poset $[1,c]_T$ of generalized noncrossing partitions in any Coxeter group of rank $3$ is a lattice. We achieve this by showing the more general statement that any interval of length $3$ in the absolute order on an arbitrary Coxeter group is a lattice. This implies that the interval group attached to any interval $[1,w]_T$ where $w$ is an element of an arbitrary Coxeter group with $\ell_T(w)=3$ is a quasi-Garside group.

Abstract:In this paper we propose the study of the hyperbolic cover $\tilde{W}$ of an elliptic Weyl group. For $\tilde{c}$ a Coxeter transformation in $\tilde{W}$ we prove Hurwitz transitivity of the braid group on the set of reduced reflection factorizations of $\tilde{c}$, which then enables us to establish for a weighted projective line $\mathbb{X}$ of tubular type an order preserving bijection between the poset of thick subcategories of $\mathrm{coh}(\mathbb{X})$ generated by an exceptional sequence and the interval poset $[\mathrm{id}, \tilde{c}]$ ordered by the absolute order.

Equivariant Hilbert and Ehrhart series under translative group actions

Abstract:We study the equivariant Hilbert series of the complex Stanley-Reisner ring of a simplicial complex $\Sigma$ under the action of a finite group via simplicial automorphisms. We prove that, when $\Sigma$ is Cohen-Macaulay and the group action is translative, i.e., color-preserving for some proper coloring of $\Sigma$, the equivariant Hilbert series of $\Sigma$ admits a rational expression whose numerator is a positive integer combination of irreducible characters. We relate such a result to equivariant Ehrhart theory via an equivariant analogue of the Betke-McMullen theorem developed by Jochemko, Katthän and Reiner: namely, if a lattice polytope admits a lattice unimodular triangulation that is invariant under the action of a finite group, then the equivariant Ehrhart series of the polytope equals the equivariant Hilbert series of such a triangulation. As an application, we study the equivariant Ehrhart series of alcoved polytopes in the sense of Lam and Postnikov and derive explicit results in the case of order polytopes and of Lipschitz poset polytopes.

Using the results, we construct certain canonical bases (i.e., IC bases) for non-simply-laced generalized Temperley--Lieb algebras and show how to relate them to morphisms in the category of decorated tangles.

Abstract:Generating relations and irreducible representations are given for the icosahedral point group, I(h), that are suited to computerized projection of symmetry-adapted bases of arbitrary spaces invariant to the group. With 120 elements I(h ) is a good prototype for symmetry-adaptation to a large finite nonabelian group. The four- and five-dimensional irreducible representations are obtained by coupling direct products of the three-dimensional irreducible representations using the symmetry-adaptation algorithm. The method is applied to the Hückel treatment of icosahedral C(20) fullerene.

Abstract:We introduce rational Dyck tilings, or $(a,b)$-Dyck tilings, and study them by the decomposition into $(1,1)$-Dyck tilings. This decomposition allows us to make use of combinatorial models for $(1,1)$-Dyck tilings such as the Hermite history and the Dyck tiling strip bijection. Together with $b$-Stirling permutations associated to the rational Dyck tilings, we obtain a correspondence between an $(a,b)$-Dyck tiling and a tuple of $ab$ $(1,1)$-Dyck tilings.

Abstract:We use the subgraph replacement method to investigate new properties of the tilings of regions on the square lattice with diagonals drawn in. In particular, we show that the centrally symmetric tilings of a generalization of the Aztec diamond are always enumerated by a simple product formula. This result generalizes the previous work of Ciucu (1997) and Yang (1992) about symmetric tilings of the Aztec diamond. We also use our method to prove a closed-form product formula for the number of centrally symmetric tilings of a quasi-hexagon.
