Abstract:In this paper we strengthen a result due to Li by showing that the third bi-power of a locally finite connected bipartite graph that admits a perfect matching is Hamilton-laceable, i.e. any two vertices from different bipartition classes are endpoints of some common Hamilton arc.

Abstract:Graph powers are a well-studied concept in graph theory. Analogous to graph powers, Chandran et al.[3] introduced the concept of bipartite powers for bipartite graphs. In this paper, we will demonstrate that some well-known classes of bipartite graphs, namely the interval bigraphs, proper interval bigraphs, and bigraphs of Ferrers dimension 2, are closed under the operation of taking bipartite powers. Finally, we define strongly closed property for bipartite graphs under powers and have shown that the class of chordal bipartite graphs is strongly closed under powers.

Matching Theory and Barnette's Conjecture

Abstract:Barnette's Conjecture claims that all cubic, 3-connected, planar, bipartite graphs are Hamiltonian. We give a translation of this conjecture into the matching-theoretic setting. This allows us to relax the requirement of planarity to give the equivalent conjecture that all cubic, 3-connected, Pfaffian, bipartite graphs are Hamiltonian. A graph, other than the path of length three, is a brace if it is bipartite and any two disjoint edges are part of a perfect matching. Our perspective allows us to observe that Barnette's Conjecture can be reduced to cubic, planar braces. We show a similar reduction to braces for cubic, 3-connected, bipartite graphs regarding four stronger versions of Hamiltonicity. Note that in these cases we do not need planarity. As a practical application of these results, we provide some supplements to a generation procedure for cubic, 3-connected, planar, bipartite graphs discovered by Holton et al. [Hamiltonian Cycles in Cubic 3-Connected Bipartite Planar Graphs, JCTB, 1985]. These allow us to check whether a graph we generated is a brace.

A note on the 2-Factor Hamiltonicity Conjecture

Abstract:The 2-factor Hamiltonicity Conjecture by Funk, Jackson, Labbate, and Sheehan [JCTB, 2003] asserts that all cubic, bipartite graphs in which all 2-factors are Hamiltonian cycles can be built using a simple operation starting from $K_{3,3}$ and the Heawood graph. We discuss the link between this conjecture and matching theory, in particular by showing that this conjecture is equivalent to the statement that the two exceptional graphs in the conjecture are the only 2-factor Hamiltonian, cubic braces, where braces are connected, bipartite graphs in which every matching of size at most two is contained in a perfect matching. In the context of matching theory this conjecture is especially noteworthy as $K_{3,3}$ and the Heawood graph are both strongly tied to the important class of Pfaffian graphs, with $K_{3,3}$ being the canonical non-Pfaffian graph and the Heawood graph being one of the most noteworthy Pfaffian graphs. Our main contribution is a proof that the Heawood graph is the only 2-factor Hamiltonian, Pfaffian, cubic brace. This is shown by establishing that, aside from the Heawood graph, all Pfaffian braces contain a cycle of length four, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:Let G be a finite simple graph and let indm(G) and ordm(G) denote the induced matching number and the ordered matching number of G, respectively. We characterize all bipartite graphs G with indm(G) = ordm(G). We establish the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of powers of edge ideals and depth of powers of cover ideals for such graphs. We also give formulas for the count of connected non-isomorphic spanning subgraphs of the complete bipartite graph K_{m,n} for which indm(G) = ordm(G) = 2, with an explicit expression for the count when m = 2,3,4 and m <= n.

Abstract:Let { E 1 , … , E m } be a partition of E ( K n , n ) , where K n , n is the complete bipartite graph, and assume that | E i | n ∈ Z . It was conjectured in [1], that there exists a perfect matching M in K n , n with s ( M ) = max i ⁡ ( | M ∩ E i | − | E i | n ) − min i ⁡ ( | M ∩ E i | − | E i | n ) ≤ 2 . In this paper, we reprove combinatorially that this conjecture is true when m = 2 or m = 3 . This result is proved in [1] by using topological methods. In the case m = 4 , we prove that there is always a perfect matching M in K n , n with s ( M ) ≤ 11 . We also bring here an unpublished result from 2014 of the second author of this paper together with Irine Lo and Paul Seymour, proving that there exists a function of m alone, f ( m ) , and a perfect matching M in K n , n such that s ( M ) ≤ f ( m ) . This result was later reproved by Alon in [2], where an explicit formulation of f ( m ) was given.

We give a detailed survey on selected known results in this field that demonstrate structural, polyhedral and algorithmic properties of such matchings and their sets, providing our description with relatively short proofs.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize the notions of perfect matchings, perfect 2-matchings to perfect k -matchings and give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of perfect k -matchings. We show that a bipartite graph G contains a perfect k -matching if and only if it contains a perfect matching. Moreover, for regular graphs, we provide a sufficient condition for the existence of perfect k -matching in terms of the edge connectivity.

Abstract:Haxell's condition is a natural hypergraph analog of Hall's condition, which is a well-known necessary and sufficient condition for a bipartite graph to admit a perfect matching. That is, when Haxell's condition holds it forces the existence of a perfect matching in the bipartite hypergraph. Unlike in graphs, however, there is no known polynomial time algorithm to find the hypergraph perfect matching that is guaranteed to exist when Haxell's condition is satisfied. We prove the existence of an efficient algorithm to find perfect matchings in bipartite hypergraphs whenever a stronger version of Haxell's condition holds. Our algorithm can be seen as a generalization of the classical Hungarian algorithm for finding perfect matchings in bipartite graphs. The techniques we use to achieve this result could be of use more generally in other combinatorial problems on hypergraphs where disjointness structure is crucial, e.g. Set Packing.

Abstract:The class of bipartite permutation graphs enjoys many nice and important properties. In particular, this class is critically important in the study of clique- and rank-width of graphs, because it is one of the minimal hereditary classes of graphs of unbounded clique- and rank-width. It also contains a number of important subclasses, which are critical with respect to other parameters, such as graph lettericity or shrub-depth, and with respect to other notions, such as well-quasi-ordering or complexity of algorithmic problems. In the present paper we identify critical subclasses of bipartite permutation graphs of various types.

Abstract:We present a tight extremal threshold for the existence of Hamilton cycles in graphs with large minimum degree and without a large ``bipartite hole`` (two disjoint sets of vertices with no edges between them). This result extends Dirac's classical theorem, and is related to a theorem of Chvátal and Erdős. In detail, an $(s, t)$-bipartite-hole in a graph $G$ consists of two disjoint sets of vertices $S$ and $T$ with $|S|= s$ and $|T|=t$ such that there are no edges between $S$ and $T$; and $\widetilde{\alpha}(G)$ is the maximum integer $r$ such that $G$ contains an $(s, t)$-bipartite-hole for every pair of non-negative integers $s$ and $t$ with $s + t = r$. Our central theorem is that a graph $G$ with at least $3$ vertices is Hamiltonian if its minimum degree is at least $\widetilde{\alpha}(G)$. From the proof we obtain a polynomial time algorithm that either finds a Hamilton cycle or a large bipartite hole. The theorem also yields a condition for the existence of $k$ edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles. We see that for dense random graphs $G(n,p)$, the probability of failing to contain many edge-disjoint Hamilton cycles is $(1 - p)^{(1 + o(1))n}$. Finally, we discuss the complexity of calculating and approximating $\widetilde{\alpha}(G)$.

Abstract:We construct a local tri-Hamiltonian structure of the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy, and compute the central invariants of the associated bihamiltonian structures. We show that the central invariants of one of the bihamiltonian structures are equal to 1/24, and the dispersionless limit of this bihamiltonian structure coincides with the one that is defined on the jet space of the Frobenius manifold associated with the Gromov-Witten invariants of local CP1. This result provides support for the validity of Brini's conjecture on the relation of these Gromov-Witten invariants with the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the Hamiltonicity of graphs in terms of Wiener index, hyper-Wiener index and Harary index of their quasi-complement or complement. Firstly, we give some sufficient conditions for an balanced bipartite graph with given the minimum degree to be traceable and Hamiltonian, respectively. Secondly, we present some sufficient conditions for a nearly balanced bipartite graph with given the minimum degree to be traceable. Thirdly, we establish some conditions for a graph with given the minimum degree to be traceable and Hamiltonian, respectively. Finally, we provide some conditions for a $k$-connected graph to be Hamilton-connected and traceable for every vertex, respectively.

Abstract:The notion of matching minors is a specialisation of minors fit for the study of graphs with perfect matchings. Matching minors have been used to give a structural description of bipartite graphs on which the number of perfect matchings can be computed efficiently, based on a result of Little, by McCuaig et al. in 1999. In this paper we generalise basic ideas from the graph minor series by Robertson and Seymour to the setting of bipartite graphs with perfect matchings. We introduce a version of Erdős-Pósa property for matching minors and find a direct link between this property and planarity. From this, it follows that a class of bipartite graphs with perfect matchings has bounded perfect matching width if and only if it excludes a planar matching minor. We also present algorithms for bipartite graphs of bounded perfect matching width for a matching version of the disjoint paths problem, matching minor containment, and for counting the number of perfect matchings. From our structural results, we obtain that recognising whether a bipartite graph G contains a fixed planar graph H as a matching minor, and that counting the number of perfect matchings of a bipartite graph that excludes a fixed planar graph as a matching minor are both polynomial time solvable.

Abstract:Let $k$ and $l$ be integers, both at least 2. A $(k,l)$-bipartite graph is an $l$-regular bipartite multigraph with coloured bipartite sets of size $k$. Define $\chi(k,l)$ and $\mu(k,l)$ to be the minimum and maximum order of automorphism groups of $(k,l)$-bipartite graphs, respectively. We determine $\chi(k,l)$ and $\mu(k,l)$ for $k\geq 8$, and analyse the generic situation when $k$ is fixed and $l$ is large. In particular, we show that almost all such graphs have automorphism groups which fix the vertices pointwise and have order far less than $\mu(k,l)$. These graphs are intimately connected with both integer doubly-stochastic matrices and uniform set partitions; we examine the uniform distribution on the set of $k\times k$ integer doubly-stochastic matrices with all line sums $l$, showing that with high probability all entries stray far from the mean. We also show that the symmetric group acting on uniform set partitions is non-synchronizing.

Abstract:A semicomplete multipartite or semicomplete c-partite digraph D is a biorientation of a c-partite graph. A semicomplete multipartite digraph D is called strongly quasi-Hamiltonian-connected, if for any two distinct vertices x and y of D, there is a path P from x toy such that P contains at least one vertex from each partite set of D.In this paper we show that every 4-strong semicomplete multipartite digraph is strongly quasi-Hamiltonian-connected. Abstract:A balanced bipartite graph G is said to be 2p-Hamilton-biconnected if for any balanced subset W of size 2p of V(G), the subgraph induced by V(G)nW is Hamilton-biconnected. In this paper, we prove that ?Let G be a balanced bipartite graph of order 2n with minimum degree ?(G) ? k, where n ? 2k-p+2 for two integers k ? p ? 0. If the number of edges e(G) > n(n-k + p-1) + (k + 2)(k-p+1), then G is 2p-Hamilton-biconnected except some exceptions.? Furthermore, this result is used to present two new spectral conditions for a graph to be 2p-Hamilton-biconnected. Moreover, the similar results are also presented for nearly balanced bipartite graphs.

In this paper, we prove that under this condition {tiH} must have a perfect matching. Another result of this paper is about the perfect matching in 3-uniform hm-bipartite hypergraphs. Let G be a 3-uniform hm-bipartite hypergraph with one of whose sides V1 has the size n, the another side V2 has size 2n. If for all the legal 2-tuple f with |f ∩ V1| = 1 and for all the legal 2-tuple g with |g ∩ V1 = 0, we have d(f) ≥ n − 2 and $$d\left(g \right) > {n \over 2}$$ , then G has a perfect matching.

Abstract:We discuss the property of (almost) complete intersection of LSS-ideals of graphs of some special forms, like trees, unicyclic, and bicyclic graphs. Further, we give a sufficient condition for the complete intersection property of twisted LSS-ideals in terms of a new graph theoretical invariant called twisted positive matching decomposition number denoted by tpmd. We also study the regularity of powers of LSS-ideals and make observations related to the Koszul property of the quotients of the same.
