Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to use conservative descent to study semi-orthogonal decompositions for some homogeneous varieties over general bases. We produce a semi-orthogonal decomposition for the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on a generalized Severi-Brauer scheme. This extends known results for Sever-Brauer varieties and Grassmanianns. We use our results to construct semi-orthogonal decompositions for flag varieties over arbitrary bases. This generalises a result of Kapranov.

Abstract:We investigate the behavior of semi-orthogonal decompositions of bounded derived categories of singular varieties under flat deformations to smooth varieties. We consider a Q-Gorenstein smoothing of a surface with a quotient singularity, and prove that a pretilting sheaf, which is constructed from a non-commutative deformation of a divisorial sheaf and generates a semi-orthogonal component of a bounded derived category, deforms to a direct sum of exceptional vector bundles which are mutually totally orthogonal.

Abstract:In this paper we generalize previous work on decomposition in three-dimensional orbifolds by 2-groups realized as analogues of central extensions, to orbifolds by more general 2-groups. We describe the computation of such orbifolds in physics, state a version of the decomposition conjecture, and then compute in numerous examples, checking that decomposition works as advertised.

Obstructions to semiorthogonal decompositions for singular projective varieties II: Representation theory

Abstract:We show that odd-dimensional projective varieties with tilting objects and only ADE-hypersurface singularities are nodal, i.e. they only have $A_1$-singularities. This is a very special case of more general obstructions to the existence of semiorthogonal decompositions for projective Gorenstein varieties. More precisely, for many isolated hypersurface singularities, we show that Kuznetsov-Shinder's categorical absorptions of singularities cannot contain tilting objects. The key idea is to compare singularity categories of projective varieties to singularity categories of finite-dimensional associative Gorenstein algebras. The former often contain special generators, called cluster-tilting objects, which typically have loops and $2$-cycles in their quivers. In contrast, quivers of cluster-tilting objects in the latter categories, can never have loops or $2$-cycles.

Abstract:We prove that if $X$ is a compact complex analytic variety, which has quotient singularities in codimension 2, then there is a projective bimeromorphic morphism $f\colon Y\to X$, such that $Y$ has quotient singularities, and that the indeterminacy locus of $f^{-1}$ has codimension at least 3 in $X$. As an application, we deduce the Bogomolov-Gieseker inequality on orbifold Chern classes for stable reflexive coherent sheaves on compact Kähler varieties which have quotient singularities in codimension 2.

Abstract:We consider three isogeny invariants of abelian varieties over finite fields: the Galois group, Newton polygon, and the angle rank. Motivated by work of Dupuy, Kedlaya, and Zureick-Brown, we define a new invariant called the weighted permutation representation which encompasses all three of these invariants and use it to study the subtle relationships between them. We use this permutation representation to classify the triples of invariants that occur for abelian surfaces and simple abelian threefolds.

Abstract:This paper is devoted to constructing "new" admissible subcategories and semi-orthogonal decompositions of triangulated categories out of "old" ones. For two triangulated subcategories $T$ and $T'$ of a certain $D$ and a decomposition $(L,R)$ of $T$ we look either for a decomposition $(L',R')$ of $T'$ such that there are no non-zero $D$-morphisms from $L$ into $L'$ and from $R$ into $R'$, or for a decomposition $(L_D,R_D)$ of $D$ such that $L_D\cap T=L$ and $R_D\cap T=R$. We prove some general existence statements (that also extend to semi-orthogonal decompositions with any number of components) and apply them to various derived categories of coherent sheaves over a scheme $X$ that is proper over a noetherian ring $R$. This gives a one-to-one correspondence between semi-orthogonal decompositions of $D_{perf}(X)$ and $D^b_{coh}(X)$; the latter extend to $D^-_{coh}(X)$, $D^+_{coh}({Qcoh}(X))$, $D_{coh}({Qcoh}(X))$, and $D({Qcoh}(X))$ under very mild conditions. In particular, we obtain a vast generalization of a theorem of J. Karmazyn, A. Kuznetsov, and E. Shinder. These applications rely on recent results of Neeman that express $D^b_{coh}(X)$ and $D^-_{coh}(X)$ in terms of $D_{perf}(X)$ along with its new variations corresponding to $D^+_{coh}({Qcoh}(X))$ and $D_{coh}({Qcoh}(X))$. We also discuss an application of this theorem to the construction of certain adjoint functors.

Abstract:For a smooth projective family of schemes we prove that a semiorthogonal decomposition of the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves of a fibre uniquely deforms over an étale neighbourhood of the point. We do this using a comparison theorem between semiorthogonal decompositions and decomposition triangles of the structure sheaf of the diagonal. We then apply to the latter a deformation theory for morphisms with a fixed lift of the target, which is developed in the appendix. Using this as a key ingredient we introduce a moduli space which classifies semiorthogonal decompositions of the category of perfect complexes of a smooth projective family. Using Artin's criterion, we show that this is an étale algebraic space over the base scheme of the family, which can be non-quasicompact and non-separated. We generalise this to families of geometric noncommutative schemes in the sense of Orlov. We also define a subfunctor classifying nontrivial semiorthogonal decompositions only, and conjecture it is an open and closed subspace.

Abstract:It is a classical result that the set $K\backslash G /B$ is finite, where $G$ is a reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field with characteristic not equal to two, $B$ is a Borel subgroup of $G$, and $K = G^{\theta}$ is the fixed point subgroup of an involution of $G$. In this paper, we investigate the affine counterpart of the aforementioned set, where $G$ is the general linear group over formal Laurent series, $B$ is an Iwahori subgroup of $G$, and $K$ is either the orthogonal group or the symplectic group over formal Laurent series. We construct explicit bijections between the double cosets $K \backslash G/B$ and certain twisted affine involutions. This is the first combinatorial description of $K$-orbits in the affine flag variety of type A.

Abstract:Let G be a semi-simple simply connected algebraic group over the field C of complex numbers. Let T be a maximal torus of G , and let W be the Weyl group of G with respect to T . Let Z ( w , i ) be the Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen variety corresponding to a tuple i associated to a reduced expression of an element w ∈ W . We prove that for the tuple i associated to any reduced expression of a minuscule Weyl group element w , the anti-canonical line bundle on Z ( w , i ) is globally generated. As consequence, we prove that Z ( w , i ) is weak Fano.

On some simple orbifold affine VOAs at non-admissible level arising from rank one 4D SCFTs

Abstract:We study the representations of some simple affine vertex algebras at non-admissible level arising from rank one 4D SCFTs. In particular, we classify the irreducible highest weight modules of $L_{-2}(G_2)$ and $L_{-2}(B_3)$. It is known by the works of Adamović and Perše that these vertex algebras can be conformally embedded into $L_{-2}(D_4)$. We also compute the associated variety of $L_{-2}(G_2)$, and show that it is the orbifold of the associated variety of $L_{-2}(D_4)$ by the symmetric group of degree 3 which is the Dynkin diagram automorphism group of $D_4$. This provides a new interesting example of associated variety satisfying a number of conjectures in the context of orbifold vertex algebras.

Abstract:Quadratic groups, whose definitions depend on form parameters, contain the orthogonal groups, symplectic groups, classical unitary groups and all the classical groups of Dieudonne [4] as well as those of Bruhat and Tits [2]. Abstract:Consider two families of $g$-dimensional abelian varieties induced by two distinct rational maps on the same variety $\overline{\mathcal A}$ onto two bases $\overline S_1$ and $\overline S_2$ and having big common domain of definition. Two non-torsion sections of these families induce two (birational) fiberwise translations on $\overline{\mathcal A}$, respectively. We show that if $\dim \overline S_1+\dim \overline S_2\le 2g$, the points with finite orbit under the action of a certain subset of the group generated by both translations lie in a proper Zariski closed subset that can be described to a certain extent. Our work is a higher dimensional generalization of a result of Corvaja, Tsimermann and Zannier.

Abstract:We define formal orbifolds over an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic as curves together with some branch data. Their étale coverings and their fundamental groups are also defined. These fundamental group approximates the fundamental group of an appropriate affine curve. We also define vector bundles on these objects and the category of orbifold bundles on any smooth projective curve. Analogues of various statement about vector bundles which are true in characteristic zero are proved. Some of these are positive characteristic avatar of notions which appear in the second author's work ([Par]) in characteristic zero.
