Abstract:The selective activation mechanism of Ca 2+ was investigated on the surfaces of spodumene and albite following alkali corrosion treatment. Micro-flotation experiments were conducted to examine the effects of Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , Al 3+ , and Fe 3+ ions, as well as the interaction time between Ca 2+ and NaOH, on the flotation behavior of spodumene and albite. The selective activation mechanism of Ca 2+ was determined through solution chemical calculation and XPS measurement. The results of micro-flotation demonstrated that the flotation separation of spodumene and albite was enhanced by utilizing Ca 2+ activation in a weak alkaline environment. Additionally, the appropriate duration for the action of Ca 2+ and NaOH was found to be 5 min. The solution chemistry calculations indicated that the primary form of Ca 2+ in the flotation solution was Ca 2+ in a weakly alkaline environment with a pH of 8. However, the main components present at the mineral interface were Ca 2+ and Ca (OH) + , with the hydroxyl complex Ca (OH) + having been more readily formed. XPS measurements revealed that the presence of Ca 2+ and Ca (OH) + had increased the Al and Ca sites on the surface of spodumene, while albite had decreased, indicating selectivity.
