Abstract:A self-packaged dual-band bandpass filter (DBBPF) with high isolation and low insertion loss (IL) for 5G applications is proposed in this paper. To get high stopband suppression, multiple and controllable transmission zeros (TZs) are produced. This novel DBBPF is designed with a pair of quarter-wavelength stepped-impedance resonators (QSIRs) and a half-wavelength hairpin resonator (HWHR). This DBBPF is excited by a pair of U-shape feed lines, which are designed on G6 to fully excite the resonators and to introduce source/load TZs at the same time. In this letter, the generation of two passbands and TZs will be discussed by separate electric and magnetic coupling paths (SEMCP) and mixed EM coupling analysis. This DBBPF achieves a low IL of 0.85/1.15 dB with the fractional bandwidths (FBW) of 11.0% and 6.9% at the center frequencies of 3.45 GHz and 4.9 GHz for 5G application, respectively. The total size is 0.32{\lambda}g*0.45{\lambda}g. Especially, three controllable TZs are introduced between two passbands.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to design a dual - band band - pass filter (DBBPF) with high isolation and low insertion loss (IL) in 5G communication systems, especially for 5G sub - 6 GHz applications. To achieve this goal, the paper proposes a self - packaged dual - band band - pass filter, which improves the stop - band rejection performance by introducing multiple and controllable transmission zeros (TZs). Specifically, the filter utilizes a cross - coupled five - star topology composed of quarter - wavelength stepped - impedance resonators (QSIRs) and half - wavelength hairpin resonators (HWHR), as well as U - shaped resonators to excite the resonators and introduce source/load transmission zeros simultaneously. In addition, the paper also discusses the method of generating transmission zeros through separate electric coupling paths and magnetic coupling paths (SEMCP). Through these designs, the DBBPF achieves low insertion loss (0.85/1.13 dB) and wide fractional bandwidth (11.0%/6.9%) at center frequencies of 3.45 GHz and 4.9 GHz respectively, and the total size is only 0.32λg × 0.45λg.
