Abstract:If $\H$ is a Hilbert space, $A$ is a positive bounded linear operator on $\cH$ and $\cS$ is a closed subspace of $\cH$, the relative position between $\cS$ and $A^{-1}(\cS \orto)$ establishes a notion of compatibility. We show that the compatibility of $(A,\cS)$ is equivalent to the existence of a convenient orthogonal projection in the operator range $R(A^{1/2})$ with its canonical Hilbertian structure.

Particular attention is paid to the range projectors of the operators M, M∗ and some further characteristics of these projectors are derived as well.

Abstract:We study operators acting on a tensor product Hilbert space and investigate their product numerical range, product numerical radius and separable numerical range. Concrete bounds for the product numerical range for Hermitian operators are derived. Product numerical range of a non-Hermitian operator forms a subset of the standard numerical range containing the barycenter of the spectrum. While the latter set is convex, the product range needs not to be convex nor simply connected. The product numerical range of a tensor product is equal to the Minkowski product of numerical ranges of individual factors.

Abstract:Let be the collection of bounded linear operators on a complex separable Hilbert space . For , its numerical range and maximal numerical range are denoted by W ( T ) and , respectively. First, we give in this paper a characterization of the maximal numerical range and, as applications, we determine maximal numerical ranges of weighted shifts, partial isometries, the Volterra integral operator and classical Toeplitz operators. Second, we study the universality of maximal numerical ranges, showing that any nonempty bounded convex closed subset of is the maximal numerical range of some operator. Finally, we discuss the relations among the numerical range, the maximal numerical range and the spectrum. It is shown that the collection of those operators T with is a nonempty open subset of precisely when , and is dense precisely when . We also show that those operators T with constitute a nowhere dense subset of precisely when

Abstract:The Berezin range of a bounded operator $T$ acting on a reproducing kernel Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ is the set $B(T)$ := $\{\langle T\hat{k}_{x},\hat{k}_{x} \rangle_{\mathcal{H}} : x \in X\}$, where $\hat{k}_{x}$ is the normalized reproducing kernel for $\mathcal{H}$ at $x \in X$. In general, the Berezin range of an operator is not convex. Primarily, we focus on characterizing the convexity of the Berezin range for a class of composition operators acting on the Fock space on $\mathbb{C}$ and the Dirichlet space of the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$. We prove an analogue of the elliptic range theorem for the unitarily equivalent Berezin range of an operator on a two-dimensional reproducing kernel Hilbert space and characterize the convexity of the unitarily equivalent Berezin range for a bounded operator $T$ on a reproducing kernel Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$.

Abstract:Let $ T_{B} = \left[\begin{array}{ll} A & B \\ 0 & D \end{array}\right] $ be an unbounded upper operator matrix with diagonal domain, acting in $ \mathcal H \oplus\mathcal K $, where $ \mathcal H $ and $ \mathcal K $ are Hilbert spaces. In this paper, some sufficient and necessary conditions are characterized under which $ T_{B} $ is Browder (resp., invertible) for some closable operator $ B $ with $ \mathcal D(B)\supset \mathcal D(D) $. Further, a sufficient and necessary condition is given under which the Browder spectrum (resp., spectrum) of $ T_{B} $ coincides with the union of the Browder spectrum (resp., spectrum) of its diagonal entries.

Abstract:We are concerned with the question of the existence of an invariant proper affine subspace for an operator A on a complex Banach space. It turns out that the presence of the number 1 in the spectrum of A or in the spectrum of its adjoint operator is crucial. For instance, an algebraic operator has an invariant proper affine subspace if and only if 1 is its eigenvalue. For an arbitrary operator A , we show that it has an invariant proper hyperplane if and only if 1 is an eigenvalue of . If A is a power bounded operator, then every invariant proper affine subspace is contained in an invariant proper hyperplane, moreover, A has a non-trivial invariant cone.

On the $A$-spectrum for $A$-bounded operator on von-Neumann algebras

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{M}$ be a von Neumann algebra and let $A$ be a nonzero positive element of $\mathfrak{M}$. By $\sigma_A(T) $ and $r_A(T)$ we denote the $A$-spectrum and the $A$-spectral radius of $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$, respectively. In this paper, we show that $\sigma(PTP, P\mathfrak{M} P)\subseteq \sigma_A(T)$. Sufficient conditions for the equality $\sigma_A(T)=\sigma(PTP, P\mathfrak{M} P)$ to be true are presented. Also, we show that $\sigma_A(T)$ is finite for any $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$ if and only if $A$ is in the socle of $\mathfrak{M}$. Next , we consider the relationship between elements $S$ and $T\in\mathfrak{M}^A$ that satisfy one of the following two conditions: (1) $\sigma_A(SX)=\sigma_A(TX)$ for all $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$, (2) $r_A(SX)= r_A(TX)$ for all $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$. Finally, a Gleason-Kahane-Żelazko's theorem for the $A$-spectrum is derived.% Finally, we introduce and study the notion of the $A$-approximate point spectrum for element of $X\in\mathfrak{M}^A$.

Factorization Property in Rearrangement Invariant Spaces

Abstract:Let $X$ be a Banach space with a basis $(e_k)_k$ and biorthogonals $(e^\ast_k)_k$. An operator on $X$ is said to have a $\textit {large diagonal}$ if $\inf\limits_{k} |e_k^\ast(T(e_k))| > 0$. The basis $(e_k)_k$ is said to have the $\textit {factorization property}$ if the identity factors through any operator with a large diagonal. Under the assumption that the Rademacher sequence is weakly null, we study the factorization property of the Haar system in a Haar system space. A Haar system space is the completion of the span of characteristic functions of dyadic intervals with respect to a rearrangement invariant norm. We show that every bounded operator with a large diagonal on a Haar system space is approximatively a factor of some diagonal operator with a large diagonal. Moreover, when the Haar system is an unconditional basis for a Haar system space, it has the factorization property.

Abstract:For each pair of bounded linear operators A and B on a Hilbert space H , let ‖A−B‖ be their operator distance. Given an idempotent Q on H , consider the operator distances from Q to all of the projections on H . It is proved that there always exists a projection whose operator distance away from Q takes the maximum value. An example is constructed to show that such a projection may fail to be unique.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize the notion of joint eigenvalues and joint spectrum of matrices and operator tupples on a bi complex Hilbert space. We observe that unlike the spectrum of a bounded operator on a bi complex Hilbert space is bounded. But this is not the case here. Even the set of joint eigenvalues of matrix tuples is unbounded.

Abstract:Let A be a positive bounded operator acting on a complex Hilbert space H . For two bounded operators B and C on H , we denote by M2,B,C the basic elementary operator on the class of Hilbert–Schmidt operators C2(H) , i.e. M2,B,C(X)=BXC for all X∈C2(H) . In this paper, we investigate the A -numerical range WA(M2,B,(C♯A)∗) and the A -maximal numerical range WmaxA(M2,B,(C♯A)∗) , where A=M2,A,A , C♯A is the reduced solution of the equation AX=C∗A and C∗ is the adjoint of C . Within this framework, we show, under some A -hyponormality conditions, the following two equalities: WA(M2,B,(C♯A)∗) ̄=co(WA(B) ̄⋅WA(C) ̄) and WmaxA(M2,B,(C♯A)∗)=co(WmaxA(B)⋅WmaxA(C)), where WA(⋅) , WmaxA(⋅) and co(⋅) denote respectively the A -numerical range, the A -maximal numerical range and the convex hull. Here, the bar stands for the closure. The first equality allows us to establish that ‖M2,B,(C♯A)∗‖A=‖B‖A‖C‖A, where ‖⋅‖A and ‖⋅‖A designate the A -operator seminorm and the A -operator seminorm, respectively.

Abstract:In this note, we characterize maximal invariant subspaces for a class of operators. Let T be a Fredholm operator and 1-TT^*∈𝒮_p for some p ≥1. It is shown that if M is an invariant subspace for T such that dim M ⊖ TM <∞, then every maximal invariant subspace of M is of codimension 1 in M . As an immediate consequence, we obtain that if M is a shift invariant subspace of the Bergman space and dim M ⊖ zM <∞, then every maximal invariant subspace of M is of codimension 1 in M . We also apply the result to translation operators and their invariant subspaces.

Abstract:The operators T on a Hilbert space which have 3-isometric liftings S on Hilbert spaces containing are investigated. Here, we deal with the liftings S which are 2-isometries on their invariant subspace and also have this subspace invariant for . Several characterizations for such operators T are obtained, including the case when the lifting S is expansive. As an application, we refer to the class of ( A , 2)-contractions for a positive operator A on , and particularly to the expansive 3-concave operators. Also, we obtain an upper triangulation for T induced by S , where the operators on the main diagonal are close to contractions. Finally, we study such liftings S which are minimal, in the sense that is generated by .

Abstract:Tensor product operators on finite dimensional Hilbert spaces are studied. The focus is on bilinear tensor product operators. A tensor product operator on a pair of Hilbert spaces is a maximally general bilinear operator into a target Hilbert space. By 'maximally general' is meant every bilinear operator from the same pair of spaces to any Hilbert space factors into the composition of the tensor product operator with a uniquely determined linear mapping on the target space. There are multiple distinct tensor product operators of the same type; there is no "the" tensor product. Distinctly different tensor product operators can be associated with different parts of a multipartite system without difficulty. Separability of states, and locality of operators and observables is tensor product operator dependent. The same state in the target state space can be inseparable with respect to one tensor product operator but separable with respect to another, and no tensor product operator is distinguished relative to the others; the unitary operator used to construct a Bell state from a pair of |0>'s being highly tensor product operator-dependent is a prime example. The relationship between two tensor product operators of the same type is given by composition with a unitary operator. There is an equivalence between change of tensor product operator and change of basis in the target space. Among the gains from change of tensor product operator is the localization of some nonlocal operators as well as separability of inseparable states. Examples are given.
