Abstract:Inspired by a theorem by Skornjakov–Hughes–Pasini [8], [5], [6] and a problem which turned up in our recent paper [11], we start a study of epimorphisms with source a thick generalized m-gon and target a thin generalized m-gon. In this first part of the series, we classify the cases m=3,4 and 6 when the polygons are finite. Then we show that the infinite case is very different, and construct examples which strongly deviate from the finite case. A number of general structure theorems are also obtained. We introduce the theory of locally finitely generated generalized polygons and locally finitely chained generalized polygons along the way.

Abstract:We study morphisms of internal locales of Grothendieck toposes externally: treating internal locales and their morphisms as sheaves and natural transformations. We characterise those morphisms of internal locales that induce surjective geometric morphisms and geometric embeddings, demonstrating that both can be computed `pointwise'. We also show that the co-frame operations on the co-frame of internal sublocales can also be computed `pointwise' too.

Abstract:In this paper we generalize the notion of regular homotopy of immersions of a closed connected n-manifold into R^{2n-1} to locally generic mappings. The main result is that if n=2 then two mappings with singularities are regularly homotopic if and only if they have the same number of cross-cap (or Whitney-umbrella) singularities. As an application, we get a description of the path-components of the space of those immersions of a surface into R^4 whose projections into R^3 are locally generic.

Abstract:In this article we make the concept of a continuous family of triangles precise and prove the moduli functor classifying oriented triangles admits a fine moduli space but the functor classifying non-oriented triangles only admits a coarse moduli space. We hope moduli spaces of triangles can help understand stacks.

Abstract:Any tricategory characteristically has associated various simplicial or pseudo-simplicial objects. This paper explores the relationship amongst three of them: the pseudo-simplicial bicategory so-called Grothendieck nerve of the tricategory, the simplicial bicategory termed its Segal nerve, and the simplicial set called its Street geometric nerve, and it proves the fact that the geometric realizations of all of these possible candidate 'nerves of the tricategory' are homotopy equivalent. Our results provide coherence for all reasonable extensions to tricategories of Quillen's definition of the 'classifying space' of a category as the geometric realization of the category's Grothendieck nerve. Many properties of the classifying space construction for tricategories may be easier to establish depending on the nerve used for realizations. For instance, by using Grothendieck nerves we state and prove the precise form in which the process of taking classifying spaces transports tricategorical coherence to homotopy coherence. Segal nerves allow us to obtain an extension to bicategories of the results by Mac Lane, Stasheff, and Fiedorowicz about the relation between loop spaces and monoidal or braided monoidal categories by showing that the group completion of the classifying space of a bicategory enriched with a monoidal structure is, in a precise way, a loop space. With the use of geometric nerves, we obtain genuine simplicial sets whose simplices have a pleasing geometrical description in terms of the cells of the tricategory and, furthermore, we obtain an extension of the results by Joyal, Street, and Tierney about the classification of braided categorical groups and their relationship with connected, simply connected homotopy 3-types, by showing that, via the classifying space construction, bicategorical groups are a convenient algebraic model for connected homotopy 3-types.

Abstract:A geometric triangulation of a Riemannian manifold is a triangulation where the interior of each simplex is totally geodesic. Bistellar moves are local changes to the triangulation which are higher dimensional versions of the flip operation of triangulations in a plane. We show that geometric triangulations of a compact hyperbolic, spherical or Euclidean manifold are connected by geometric bistellar moves (possibly adding or removing vertices), after taking sufficiently many derived subdivisions. For dimensions 2 and 3, we show that geometric triangulations of such manifolds are directly related by geometric bistellar moves (without having to take derived subdivision).

Abstract:We modify the axioms of triangulated categories to include both higher triangles and distinguished maps of higher triangles. The distinguished maps are specializations of Neeman's ``good'' maps of $2$-triangles. The axioms both simplify Neeman's axioms in his 1991 paper and generalize them to higher triangles in the way proposed by Balmer et al. We provide a geometric formulation via directed truncated simplices to enable a more concrete approach. The axioms are modelled by homotopy and derived categories. We look at a number of key theorems including the fact that sums of maps of $2$-triangles are distinguished if and only if the maps are distinguished and a strong version of the $3$x$3$ lemma. These illustrate some key proof methods. We also show that maps of faces of distinguished triangles are distinguished. We construct some useful distinguished $5$-triangles.

We try to use a minimal set of axioms for triangulated categories and derive all other statements from these, including the existence of biproducts. We conclude with a list of examples.

Abstract:Locality is implemented in an arbitrary category using Grothendieck topologies. We explore how different Grothendieck topologies on one category can be related, and, more general, how functors between categories can preserve them. As applications of locality, we review geometric objects such as sheaves, groupoids, functors, bibundles, and anafunctors internal to an arbitrary Grothendieck site. We give definitions such that all these objects are invariant under equivalences of Grothendieck topologies and certain functors between sites. As examples of sites, we look at categories of smooth manifolds, diffeological spaces, topological spaces, and sheaves, and we study properties of various functors between those.

Abstract:Let X be a compact complex manifold such that its canonical bundle is numerically trivial. Assume, additionally, that X is either Moishezon or X is Fujiki with dimension at most four. Using the MMP and classical results in foliation theory, we prove a Beauville–Bogomolov type decomposition theorem for X . We deduce that holomorphic geometric structures of affine type on X are in fact locally homogeneous away from an analytic subset of complex codimension at least two, and that they cannot be rigid unless X is an étale quotient of a compact complex torus. Moreover, we establish a characterization of torus quotients using the vanishing of the first two Chern classes which is valid for any compact complex n -folds of algebraic dimension at least . Finally, we show that a compact complex manifold with trivial canonical bundle bearing a rigid geometric structure must have infinite fundamental group if either X is Fujiki, or X is a threefold, or X is of algebraic dimension at most one.

Abstract:We systematically investigate the functors between sites which induce morphisms of relative toposes. In particualar, we establish a relative version of Diaconescu's theorem, characterizing the relative geometric morphisms towards a relative sheaf topos in terms of a notion of flat (equivalently, filtered) functor relative to the base topos.

Abstract:Cyclic polytopes have been studied since at least the early last century by Caratheodory and others.A generalization is a construction of a class of polytopes such that the polytopes have some of their properties.The best known example is the class of neighbourly polytopes. Cyclic polytopes have explicit facet structures, important properties and applications in different branches of mathematics. In the past few decades, generalizations of their combinatorial properties have yielded new classes of polytopes that also have explicit facet structures and useful applications. We present an overview of these generalizations along with some applications of the resultant polytopes, and some possible approaches to other generalizations.

Generalized Geometries Constructed from Differential Forms on Cotangent Bundle

Abstract:We investigate the landscape of generalized geometries that can be derived from Monge-Ampère structures. Instead of following the approaches of Banos, Roubtsov, Kosmann-Schwarzbach, and others, we take a new path inspired by the results of Hu, Moraru, and Svoboda. We construct a large family of new generalized almost geometries derived from non-degenerate 2D symplectic Monge-Ampère structures and other related geometric objects, such as complex structures. We demonstrate that, under certain assumptions, non-degenerate Monge-Ampère structures give rise to quadric surfaces of generalized almost geometries. Additionally, we discuss the link between Monge-Ampère structures and Monge-Ampère equations within this framework.

Triangulated structures induced by mutations

Abstract:In representation theory of algebras, there exist two types of mutation pairs: rigid type (cluster-tilting mutations by Iyama-Yoshino) and simple-minded type (mutations of simple-minded systems by Simões-Pauksztello). It is known that such mutation pairs induce triangulated categories, however, these facts have been proved in different ways. In this paper, we introduce the concept of ''mutation triples'', which is a simultaneous generalization of two different types of mutation pairs as well as concentric twin cotorsion pairs. We present two main theorems concerning mutation triples. The first theorem is that mutation triples induce pretriangulated categories. The second one is that pretriangulated categories induced by mutation triples become triangulated categories if they satisfy an additional condition (MT4).

Abstract:The complex projective structures considered is this article are compact curves locally modeled on $\mathbb{CP}^1$. To such a geometric object, modulo marked isomorphism, the monodromy map associates an algebraic one: a representation of its fundamental group into $\operatorname{PGL}(2,\mathbb{C})$, modulo conjugacy. This correspondence is neither surjective nor injective. Nonetheless, it is a local diffeomorphism [Hejhal, 1975]. We generalize this theorem to projective structures admitting poles (without apparent singularity and with fixed residues): the corresponding monodromy map (including Stokes data) is a local biholomorphism.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of moving absolute geometry of a geometry with triality and show that, in the classical case where the triality is of type ( I σ ) and the absolute geometry is a generalized hexagon, the moving 5 3 6 absolute geometry also gives interesting flag-transitive geometries with Buekenhout diagram for the groups G 2 ( k ) and 3 D 4 ( k ), for any prime power k ≥ 2. We also classify the absolute geometries for geometries with trialities but no dualities coming from maps of Class III with automorphism group L 2 ( q 3 ), where q ≥ 2 is prime power. We then investigate the moving absolute geometries for these geometries, illustrating their interest in this case.

A Real Generalized Trisecant Trichotomy

Abstract:The classical trisecant lemma says that a general chord of a non-degenerate space curve is not a trisecant; that is, the chord only meets the curve in two points. The generalized trisecant lemma extends the result to higher-dimensional varieties. It states that the linear space spanned by general points on a projective variety intersects the variety in exactly these points, provided the dimension of the linear space is smaller than the codimension of the variety and that the variety is irreducible, reduced, and non-degenerate. We prove a real analogue of the generalized trisecant lemma, which takes the form of a trichotomy. Along the way, we characterize the possible numbers of real intersection points between a real projective variety and a complimentary dimension real linear space. We show that any integer of correct parity between a minimum and a maximum number can be achieved. We then specialize to Segre-Veronese varieties, where our results apply to the identifiability of independent component analysis, tensor decomposition and to typical tensor ranks.

Abstract:Let $k$ be a field and $g \colon Y \longrightarrow X$, $f \colon X \longrightarrow \mathbb{A}_k^1$ be morphisms of quasi-projective $k$-varieties. In his thesis, Ayoub developed the theory of motivic nearby cycles functors $\Psi_{f},\Psi_{f \circ g}$. They are equipped with several base change morphisms such as $\mu_g \colon g_{\sigma!}\Psi_{f \circ g} \longrightarrow \Psi_f g_{\eta !}$, $\nu_g\colon \Psi_{f \circ g}g_{\eta}^! \longrightarrow g_{\sigma}^!\Psi_f$, which are isomorphisms if $g$ is projective and smooth, respectively. In this article, we remove the quasi-projectiveness of varieties in these base change morphisms by following a classical formulation of Deligne. As an application, we prove that the cone of $\mu_g$ is a triangulated functor. It turns out that nearby cycles at infinity constructed by Raibaut is incarnation of this cone functor.
