Abstract:In this paper, the Schwarz type and Schwarz-Pick type inequalities for solutions of $\alpha$-harmonic equation for $\alpha>-1$ are investigated. By making use of the integral of trigonometric functions, we obtain the two types of inequalities in terms of hypergeometric functions which improve the corresponding results due to Khalfallah et al. (Complex Var. Elliptic Equ., 2023) and Li et al. (Bull. Malays. Math. Sci. Soc., 2022).

Schwarz-Pick Lemma for $(α, β)$-Harmonic Functions in the Unit Disc

Abstract:We obtain Schwarz-Pick lemma for $(\alpha, \beta)$-harmonic functions u in the disc, where $\alpha$ and $\beta$ are complex parameters satisfying $\Re \alpha + \Re \beta > -1$. We prove sharp estimate of derivative at the origin for such functions in terms of $L^p$ norm of the boundary function. Also, we give asymptotically sharp estimate of the norm of the derivative at point $z$ in the unit disc. These estimates are extended to higher order derivatives. Our results extend earlier results for $\alpha$-harmonic and $T_\alpha$-harmonic functions.

Abstract:We use (versions of) the von Neumann inequality for Hilbert space contractions to prove several Schwarz-Pick inequalities. Specifically, we derive an alternate proof for a multi-point Schwarz-Pick inequality by Beardon and Minda, along with a generalized version for operators. Connections with model spaces and Peschl's invariant derivatives are established. Finally, Schwarz-Pick inequalities for analytic functions on polydisks and for higher order derivatives are discussed. An enhanced version of the Schwarz-Pick lemma, using the notion of distinguished variety, is obtained for the bidisk.

Abstract:We consider the multi-point Schwarz-Pick lemma and its associate functions due to Beardon-Minda and Baribeau-Rivard-Wegert. Basic properties of the associate functions are summarized. Then we observe that special cases of the multi-point Schwarz-Pick lemma give Schur's continued fraction algorithm and several inequalities for bounded analytic functions on the unit disk.

Abstract:We verify that if M is a compact minimal submanifold with boundary in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\sum \nolimits _{i=1}^{k}\lambda _i\ge \frac{2n\pi }{e}k^{\frac{n+2}{n}}{{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(M)^{-\frac{2}{n}}$$, where $$\lambda _i$$ is the ith Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M. This provides an evidence for that the generalized Pólya conjecture is true. We also prove that if M is a complete and non-compact minimal submanifold in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\gamma _n N_\alpha (V)\le \int _M(V-\alpha )_{-}^{n/2}(x)dx$$, where $$N_\alpha (V)$$ is the number of eigenvalues($$\le \alpha $$) of the Schrödinger operator $$-\Delta +V$$ on M and $$\gamma _n$$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on n.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider transversally harmonic maps between Riemannian manifolds with Riemannian foliations. In terms of the Bochner techniques and sub-Laplacian comparison theorem, we are able to establish a generalization of the Schwarz lemma for transversally harmonic maps of bounded generalized transversal dilatation. In addition, we also obtain a Schwarz type lemma for transversally holomorphic maps between Kähler foliations.

Abstract:When the sectional curvature of the target manifold is negative, we establish a Schwarz lemma for f-harmonic maps, if the dimension of the domain and the target is large, the result improves Theorem 3 in Chen and Zhao (2017) for the case of V=∇f. When the sectional curvature of the target is nonpositive, we obtain a Liouville theorem for the general V-harmonic maps, as a consequence, any V-harmonic function u, satisfying |u(x)|=o(r(x)), on a complete Riemannian manifold with nonnegative Bakry–Emery–Ricci curvature is a constant. We also give some applications on gradient Ricci solitons and gradient solitons with potential which are solutions to Ricci-harmonic flow.
A new Schwarz-Pick Lemma at the boundary and rigidity of holomorphic maps

Abstract:In this paper we establish several invariant boundary versions of the (infinitesimal) Schwarz-Pick lemma for conformal pseudometrics on the unit disk and for holomorphic selfmaps of strongly convex domains in $\mathbb C^N$ in the spirit of the boundary Schwarz lemma of Burns-Krantz. Firstly, we focus on the case of the unit disk and prove a general boundary rigidity theorem for conformal pseudometrics with variable curvature. In its simplest cases this result already includes new types of boundary versions of the lemmas of Schwarz-Pick, Ahlfors-Schwarz and Nehari-Schwarz. The proof is based on a new Harnack-type inequality as well as a boundary Hopf lemma for conformal pseudometrics which extend earlier interior rigidity results of Golusin, Heins, Beardon, Minda and others. Secondly, we prove similar rigidity theorems for sequences of conformal pseudometrics, which even in the interior case appear to be new. For instance, a first sequential version of the strong form of Ahlfors' lemma is obtained. As an auxiliary tool we establish a Hurwitz-type result about preservation of zeros of sequences of conformal pseudometrics. Thirdly, we apply the one-dimensional sequential boundary rigidity results together with a variety of techniques from several complex variables to prove a boundary version of the Schwarz-Pick lemma for holomorphic maps of strongly convex domains in $\mathbb C^N$ for $N>1$.

Abstract:We study a Schwarz-Pick type inequality for the Schur-Agler class $SA(B_{\delta})$. In our operator theoretical approach, von Neumann's inequality for a class of generic tuples of $2\times 2$ matrices plays an important role rather than holomorphy. In fact, the class $S_{2, gen}(B_{\Delta})$ consisting of functions that satisfy the inequality for those matrices enjoys \begin{equation*} d_{\mathbb{D}}(f(z), f(w))\le d_{\Delta}(z, w) \;\;(z,w\in B_{\Delta}, f\in S_{2, gen}(B_{\Delta})). \end{equation*} Here, $d_{\Delta}$ is a function defined by a matrix $\Delta$ of abstract functions. Later, we focus on the case when $\Delta$ is a matrix of holomorphic functions. We use the pseudo-distance $d_{\Delta}$ to give a sufficient condition on a diagonalizable commuting tuple $T$ acting on $\mathbb{C}^2$ for $B_{\Delta}$ to be a complete spectral domain for $T$. We apply this sufficient condition to generalizing von Neumann's inequalities studied by Drury and by Hartz-Richter-Shalit.

Abstract:Following ideas by Beardon, Minda and Baribeau, Rivard, Wegert in the context of the complex Schwarz-Pick Lemma, we use iterated hyperbolic difference quotients to prove a quaternionic multipoint Schwarz-Pick Lemma, in the context of the theory of slice regular functions. As applications, we obtain quaternionic Dieudonné and Goluzin estimates. Finally, an algorithm for the construction of (Nevanlinna-Pick) interpolating slice regular functions with real nodes is provided as a byproduct of the quaternionic multipoint Schwarz-Pick Lemma.

A general Schwarz lemma for Hermitian manifolds

Abstract:The Schwarz lemma for holomorphic maps between Hermitian manifolds is improved. New curvature constraints on the source and target manifolds are introduced and shown to be weaker than the Ricci and real bisectional curvature, respectively. The novel target curvature condition is intrinsic to the Hermitian structure and is controlled by the holomorphic sectional curvature if the metric is pluriclosed. This leads to significant improvements on the Wu--Yau theorem. Further, it is shown that the Schwarz lemma is largely invariant under a change of Hermitian connection, and the precise geometric quantity that varies with the connection is determined. This enables us to establish the Schwarz lemma for the Gauduchon connections.

Abstract:We prove a sharp Schwarz type inequality for the Weierstrass- Enneper representation of the minimal surfaces. It states the following. If $F:\mathbf{D}\to \Sigma$ is a conformal harmonic parameterization of a minimal disk $\Sigma$, where $\mathbf{D}$ is the unit disk and $|\Sigma|=\pi R^2$, then $|F_x(z)|(1-|z|^2)\le R$. If for some $z$ the previous inequality is equality, then the surface is an affine disk, and $F$ is linear up to a Möbius transformation of the unit disk.
