Abstract:An efficient DABCO-catalyzed three-component formal [3 + 2 + 1] annulation, involving a Morita-Baylis-Hillman carbonate, a 1,3-ketoester, and a primary amine, leading to one-pot synthesis of substituted 4-aryl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyridines, has been developed. The densely functionalized products were generally obtained in good to excellent yields under mild conditions. The structures including the relative stereoconfigurations of the representative products were confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract:An array of novel 1,4-diazobicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) based ionic liquids were developed and used as recyclable catalysts for the aza-Michael addition at room temperature without any organic solvent. [DABCO-PDO][OAc] was found to be the most efficient catalyst, and the amount of catalyst was only 10 mol %. Various amines reacted with a wide range of α,β-unsaturated amides, smoothly affording target products in good to excellent yields within hours. Moreover, the catalyst could be reused up to eight times, still maintaining a high catalytic activity. Finally, a plausible mechanism was proposed. FTIR and computational chemistry were used to verify the catalytic mechanism.

Abstract:An iridium-catalyzed alkenylation/annulation sequence between monocarba-closo-dodecaborate carboxylic acids and diarylacetylenes is reported. Regioselective activation of the B2 position, followed by B-C bond formation and ring closure, affords 3D bora-analogues of isocoumarins. The reaction tolerates a variety of functional groups on the aromatic rings and can be extended to B12-substituted derivatives. Furthermore, subsequent alkenylation of the B4 vertex has been achieved in high yields.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed tandem dehydrogenative [4 + 2] annulation of terminal olefins with N-sulfonyl amides via C(sp2)-H activation, allylic C(sp3)-H activation, and homoallylic C(sp3)-H elimination processes has been developed. Promoted by the DMSO ligand, various benzamides, heterocyclic arylamides, alkenyl carboxamides, and commercial olefins are found to be efficient substrates to construct important heterocyclic compounds bearing a vinyl substituent with high E stereoselectivity. Using air as the terminal oxidant also provides a great advantage regarding environmental friendliness.

Abstract:Palladium-catalyzed [4+2] annulation of aryl and alkenyl carboxamides with 1,3-dienes via C–H functionalization is developed using air as the terminal oxidant. The method demonstrates good functional group tolerance and high stereoselectivity, affording a series of 3,4-dihydroisoquinolones and 5,6-dihydropyridinones in yields of up to 99%.

Abstract:The Morita–Baylis–Hillman (MBH) carbonates are widely participated in many meaningful annulations. In considering of exploring the feasibility of phosphine-mediated longer-chained MBH carbonate-derived synthons, herein we report a phosphine-mediated MBH carbonates-derived C5 synthon for the first time, enabling a formal [5+1] annulation with readily available isocyanates. The reaction proceeds via a tandem Wittig and aminobenzannulation process, smoothly constructing both diarylamines and anilines with a broad scope of substrates and excellent chemoselectively.

Abstract:An oxazoline aminoisopropylpyridine (OAP) was designed and synthesized for cobalt-catalyzed asymmetric hydroboration of sterically hindered styrenes. A unique dual-stereocontrol phenomenon was observed using a rigid OIP-CoCI, complex or a flexible OAP with CoCl2 as precatalysts, respectively. The reaction could be easily carried out on a gram scale to afford chiral alkylboronic esters which could be converted into diverse C-X (X = C, N, O) bond cross-coupling products. The mechanistically distinct pathways were proposed on the basis of deuterium experiments.

Abstract:A mild and efficient method for the synthesis of branched N-allylic lactams and related N-heteroaromatics was reported. This strategy involves a DABCO-catalyzed SN2′-SN2′ type N-allylic alkylation with Morita−Baylis−Hillman (MBH) carbonates. A wide scope of lactams and related N-heterocycles as well as MBH carbonates are well tolerated, and various branched N-substituted products were obtained in moderate to excellent yields. The utility of this method was further demonstrated by the gram-scale synthesis and diverse transformation of the products.

Abstract:A tandem coupling-ketooxygenation reaction of readily accessible enediyne-carboxylic compounds with inner alkynes has been developed that utilizes the PdCl2/CuBr2 catalytic system under an O2 atmosphere and assembles a class of isoindolinones and o-acylbenzoic acids. The two oxygen atoms are regioselectively incorporated into enediyne units at the 1- and 6-positions from atmospheric molecular oxygen and H2O, respectively, during the present process. This study uncovered a formal [4C + 2C] benzannulation-diketonization of enediynes and alkynes via a coupling and decoupling strategy.

Abstract:The regioselective derivatization of the monocarba-closo-dodecaborate anion via catalytic B-H bond activation is reported. Amide directing groups in combination with rhodium and iridium catalysts allowed for the direct functionalization of cage boron vertices. Products comprising B-C, B-N and B-Cl bonds were synthesized. As a key intermediate of the B-H activation step, an iridium complex with a direct B-Ir interaction was isolated and fully characterized by spectroscopic methods as well as X-ray crystallography.

Abstract:Photoinduced acylmethyl radical procedures for the efficent and simple preparation of highly functionalized 1,5-dicarbonyl compounds from Morita-Baylis-Hillman acetates with a-bromo ketones are developed. The acylmethylation is carried out with rose bengal as an organophotocatalyst at room temperature under metal- and oxidant-free conditions. Particularly, the simple photoinduced bromoacylmethylation was exploited via a fac-Ir(ppy)3-catalyzed atom transfer radical addition (ATRA) strategy under visible light irradiation. This method are attractive and valuable due to its mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance.

Abstract:This study presents a straightforward [3 + 2] annulation method for synthesizing bisspiro(oxindole) derivatives using isatin‐derived Morita–Baylis–Hillman carbonates and p‐quinone methides (p‐QMs) with 4‐dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) as the catalyst. The optimized protocol in dichloromethane (DCM) solvent achieves good yields (up to 87%) and diastereoselectivity (>20:1). The method's versatility is shown through the synthesis of various derivatives, including chiral variants with up to 82% ee. The intermediates were captured by HRMS, and a plausible reaction pathway was proposed.

Abstract:Herein, we report the Pd(0)-catalyzed intermolecular asymmetric dearomative [3 + 2] annulation of phenols with vinyl cyclopropanes via in situ generated ortho-quinone methide intermediates. A series of highly functionalized spiro-[5,6] bicycles which bear three contiguous stereogenic centers including one all-carbon quaternary were obtained with excellent stereoselectivities. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that the reactions were controlled by thermodynamics.
