Abstract:It has become possible to link anything and everything to the Internet in recent decades due to the expanding Internet of Things (IoT). As a result, our usage of technology has changed a lot, causing digital disruption in the real world. IoT allows drones, sensors, digital set‐top boxes, surveillance cameras, wearable technology, and medical equipment to be connected to the internet. Healthcare, manufacturing, utilities, transportation, and housing are among the various sectors that has become intelligent. Recently, we have seen a surge in cybersecurity challenges and opportunities for the improvement of various IoT applications. Although cybersecurity and the IoT are extensively researched, there is a dearth of studies that exclusively focus on the evolution of cybersecurity challenges in the area of AI and machine learning, blockchain and zero trust, lightweight security, integration of IoT with 5G networks, and many more in the IoT world. The availability of environment‐capturing sensors and internet‐connected tracking devices allows for private life surveillance and cloud data transmission. Therefore, a significant problem for researchers and developers is to ensure the CIA (Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability) security triangle for people. This paper presents a comprehensive study of cybersecurity applications, challenges, and opportunities in the IoT world. The IoT architectural layer, attacks against the IoT layer, and related issues are highlighted. Furthermore, cybersecurity issues and challenges in IoT along with the strength and weaknesses of existing techniques are discussed in detail. Our study will provide insight into various current cybersecurity research trends in the IoT world.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) networks, including their design, applications, future directions, difficulties, and constraints, are thoroughly discussed in this research study. The explanation of IoT networks' design, covering definitions and components, as well as centralized and decentralized networks, follows an overview of IoT networks' significance. The applications of IoT networks are examined in the next part, along with specific use examples from the fields of healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, and smart cities. The following section of the article examines new developments in IoT networks, including edge computing, 5G networks, AI, and blockchain technology. The difficulties and constraints of IoT networks, such as security and privacy issues, interoperability and compatibility problems, scalability, and network congestion, are also examined. The final section of the study summarizes the main ideas and research conclusions, highlighting the significance of IoT networks in our increasingly linked society.

Abstract:Today almost every person's life revolves around internet and Internet of Things (IoT). IoT is a paradigm which interconnects devices, people, or networks with the ability to process and respond to any physical or virtual communication without a glitch. It is contemplated to be the next era of communication and made devices smarter and more efficient. IoT hits every application area from home controllers and healthcare to agriculture. It utilizes internet connectivity, sensors and numerous other technologies and protocols for data collection and analysis and delivers user required services effectively. In this paper, a detailed review on various architectures, technologies and protocols used in an IoT eco-system is presented. We have also discussed possible layer wise attacks and how new technologies, fog, edge, cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning and blockchain could be integrated to existing IoT architecture to deliver flawless services and better security. A summary of current research challenges and future directions in this area is also discussed.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), thus, will play a major role in the underlying network infrastructure. Abstract:All of the objects in the real world are envisioned to be connected and/or represented, through an infrastructure layer, in the virtual world of the Internet, becoming Things with status information. Services are then using the available data from this Internet-of-Things (IoT) for various social and economical benefits which explain its extreme broad usage in very heterogeneous fields. Domain administrations of diverse areas of application developed and deployed their own IoT systems and services following disparate standards and architecture approaches that created a fragmentation of things, infrastructures and services in vertical IoT silos. Coordination and cooperation among IoT systems are the keys to build “smarter” IoT services boosting the benefits magnitude. This article analyses the technical trends of the future IoT world based on the current limitations of the IoT systems and the capability requirements. We propose a hyper-connected IoT framework in which “things” are connected to multiple interdependent services and describe how this framework enables the development of future applications. Moreover, we discuss the major limitations in today’s IoT and highlight the required capabilities in the future. We illustrate this global vision with the help of two concrete instances of the hyper-connected IoT in smart cities and autonomous driving scenarios. Finally, we analyse the trends in the number of connected “things” and point out open issues and future challenges. The proposed hyper-connected IoT framework is meant to scale the benefits of IoT from local to global.

Abstract:During the past decade, the Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionized the ubiquitous computing with multitude of applications built around various types of sensors. A vast amount of activity is seen in IoT based product-lines and this activity is expected to grow in years to come with projections as high as billions of devices with on average 6-7 devices per person by year 2020. With most of the issues at device and protocol levels solved during the past decade, there is now a growing trend in integration of sensors and sensor based systems with cyber physical systems and device-to-device (D2D) communications. 5th generation wireless systems (5G) are on the horizon and IoT is taking the center stage as devices are expected to form a major portion of this 5G network paradigm. IoT technologies such as machine to machine communication complemented with intelligent data analytics are expected to drastically change landscape of various industries. The emergence of cloud computing and its extension to fog paradigm with proliferation of intelligent `smart' devices is expected to lead further innovation in IoT. These developments excite us and form a motivation to survey existing work, design new techniques, and identify new applications of IoT. Researchers, scientists, and engineers face emerging challenges in designing IoT based systems that can efficiently be integrated with the 5G wireless communications.

Abstract:5G (The Fifth generation) is the state-of-the-art technology, which has the potential to create new interfaces for the daily used devices and networking components. To communicate with devices, wireless technologies are generally used and also 5G plays a major role in connecting larger number of users to provide smarter and faster communications. This is majorly designed for achieving better coverage, bandwidth, reliability & latency, which can grow faster across the globe. Basically, the concept behind the 5G and wireless technology is to reduce the load & stabilize the technical solutions to enable applications for better mobile communication and utilized with latest applications in the business area. The current 4G network i.e long term evolution advanced (LTE - A) is not as good as 5G for meeting the demands of multiple unified communication devices that requires a very high data speed , low latency quality of service (QoS) , higher bandwidth and negligence interference. Henceforth, IoT (Internet of Things) & 5G plays a major role in mobile applications & network for e.g. health applications, smart watches, smart cities, smart cards, beacons, etc. The concept of 5G & IoT along with its implementation, specifications, potential challenges and other similar parameters related to the modern 5G technology are discussed in this paper.

Abstract:Internet of Things (IoT) is a key technology trend that supports our digitalized society in applications such as smart countries and smart cities. In this study, we investigated the existing strategic themes, thematic evolution structure, key challenges, and potential research opportunities associated with the IoT. For this study, we conducted a Bibliometric Performance and Network Analysis (BPNA), supplemented by an exhaustive Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Specifically, in BPNA, the software SciMAT was used to analyze 14,385 documents and 30,381 keywords in the Web of Science (WoS) database, which was released between 2002 and 2019. The results revealed that 31 clusters are classified according to their importance and development, and the conceptual structures of key clusters are presented, along with their performance analysis and the relationship with other subthemes. The thematic evolution structure described the important cluster(s) over time. For the SLR, 23 documents were analyzed. The SLR revealed key challenges and limitations associated with the IoT. We expect the results will form the basis of future research and guide decision-making in the IoT and other supporting industries.

Abstract:Digital twin (DT) technologies have emerged as a solution for real-time data-driven modeling of cyber physical systems (CPS) using the vast amount of data available by Internet of Things (IoT) networks. In this position paper, we elucidate unique characteristics and capabilities of a DT framework that enables realization of such promises as online learning of a physical environment, real-time monitoring of assets, Monte Carlo heuristic search for predictive prevention, on-policy, and off-policy reinforcement learning in real-time. We establish a conceptual layered architecture for a DT framework with decentralized implementation on cloud computing and enabled by artificial intelligence (AI) services for modeling, event detection, and decision-making processes. The DT framework separates the control functions, deployed as a system of logically centralized process, from the physical devices under control, much like software-defined networking (SDN) in fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. We discuss the moment of the DT framework in facilitating implementation of network-based control processes and its implications for critical infrastructure. To clarify the significance of DT in lowering the risk of development and deployment of innovative technologies on existing system, we discuss the application of implementing zero trust architecture (ZTA) as a necessary security framework in future data-driven communication networks.

Abstract:Communication technologies are developing very rapidly and achieving many breakthrough results. The advent of 5th generation mobile communication networks, the so-called 5G, has become one of the most exciting and challenging topics in the wireless study area. The power of 5G enables it to connect to hundreds of billions of devices with extreme-high throughput and extreme-low latency. The 5G realizing a true digital society where everything can be connected via the Internet, well known as the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT is a technology of technologies where humans, devices, software, solutions, and platforms can connect based on the Internet. The formation of IoT technology leads to the birth of a series of applications and solutions serving humanity, such as smart cities, smart agriculture, smart retail, intelligent transportation systems, and IoT ecosystems. Although IoT is considered a revolution in the evolution of the Internet, it still faces a series of challenges such as saving energy, security, performance, and QoS support. In this study, we provide a vision of the Internet of Things that will be the main force driving the comprehensive digital revolution in the future. The communication technologies in the IoT system are discussed comprehensively and in detail. Furthermore, we also indicated indepth challenges of existing common communication technologies in IoT systems and future research directions of IoT. We hope the results of this work can provide a vital guide for future studies on communication technologies for IoT in 5G.

Abstract:The next wave of wireless technologies is proliferating in connecting things among themselves as well as to humans. In the era of the Internet of Things (IoT), billions of sensors, machines, vehicles, drones, and robots will be connected, making the world around us smarter. The IoT will encompass devices that must wirelessly communicate a diverse set of data gathered from the environment for myriad new applications. The ultimate goal is to extract insights from this data and develop solutions that improve quality of life and generate new revenue. Providing large-scale, long-lasting, reliable, and near real-time connectivity is the major challenge in enabling a smart connected world. This paper provides a comprehensive survey on existing and emerging communication solutions for serving IoT applications in the context of cellular, wide-area, as well as non-terrestrial networks. Specifically, wireless technology enhancements for providing IoT access in the fifth-generation (5G) and beyond cellular networks, and communication networks over the unlicensed spectrum are presented. Aligned with the main key performance indicators of 5G and beyond 5G networks, we investigate solutions and standards that enable energy efficiency, reliability, low latency, and scalability (connection density) of current and future IoT networks. The solutions include grant-free access and channel coding for short-packet communications, non-orthogonal multiple access, and on-device intelligence. Further, a vision of new paradigm shifts in communication networks in the 2030s is provided, and the integration of the associated new technologies like artificial intelligence, non-terrestrial networks, and new spectra is elaborated. In particular, the potential of using emerging deep learning and federated learning techniques for enhancing the efficiency and security of IoT communication are discussed, and their promises and challenges are introduced. Finally, future research directions toward beyond 5G IoT networks are pointed out.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) is a networked system including interconnected things, devices, and networks that utilize the internet for communication and data exchange. The entity engages in interactions with both its internal and external surroundings. The IoT is capable of seeing the surrounding environment and responding in a way that is appropriate and adaptive. The utilization of advanced technology in this context enhances the environment and thus enhances the overall well-being of humanity. The IoT facilitates inter-device communication, whether through physical or virtual means. The IoT facilitates the enhancement of environmental intelligence, enabling seamless connectivity across many devices at any given moment. The concepts centred on the IoT, such as augmented reality, high-resolution video streaming, autonomous vehicles, intelligent environments, and electronic healthcare, have become pervasive in contemporary society. These applications have requirements for faster data rates, larger bandwidths, enhanced capacities, decreased latencies, and increased throughputs. IoT and Machine learning (ML) are among the fields of research that have shown significant potential for advancement. ML and IoT are used to build intelligent systems. Those networks will modify the ways in which worldwide entities exchange information. This article gives a comprehensive survey of the upcoming 5G-IoT situation, as well as a study of IoT smart system applications and usages. Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) is a sophisticated network of objects embedded with electronic systems that enable devices to collect and exchange data. IoT is a recent trending leading technology and changing the way we live. However, it has several challenges especially efficiency, architecture, complexity, and network topology. The traditional technologies are not enough to provide support. It is evident from the literature that complex networks are used to study the topology and the structure of a network and are applied to modern technologies. Thus, the capability of powerful computational tools and the existence of theoretical frameworks enable complex networks to derive new approaches in analyzing IoT-based technologies in terms of improving efficiency, architecture, complexity, and topology. In this direction, limited research has been carried out. The integration aspect remains a key challenge. Therefore, in order to fill this gap. Herein, we design a comprehensive literature review. In this research effort, we explore a newly leading emerging technology named the Social Internet of Things (SIoT). It is developed to overcome the challenges in IoT. We discuss the importance and the key applications of SIoT. We first presented a conceptual view along with a recent technological roadmap. The big data play an important role in the modern world. We discuss big data and the 5 Vs along with suitable applications and examples. Then, we highlighted the key concepts in complex networks, scale-free, random networks, and small-world networks. We explored and presented various graph models and metrics aligned with social networks and the most recent trends. The novelty of this research is to propose a synergy of complex networks to the IoT, SIoT, and big data together. We discuss the advantages of integration in detail. We present a detailed discussion on complex networks emerging technologies and cyber-physical systems (CPS). Briefly, our literature review covers the most recent advancements and developments in 10 years. In addition, our critical analysis is based on up-to-date surveys and case studies. Finally, we outline the impact of recent emerging technologies on challenges applications, and solutions for the future. This paper provides a good reference for researchers and readers in the IoT domain.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT)-centric concepts like augmented reality, high-resolution video streaming, self-driven cars, smart environment, e-health care, etc. have a ubiquitous presence now. These applications require higher data-rates, large bandwidth, increased capacity, low latency and high throughput. In light of these emerging concepts, IoT has revolutionized the world by providing seamless connectivity between heterogeneous networks (HetNets). The eventual aim of IoT is to introduce the plug and play technology providing the end-user, ease of operation, remotely access control and configurability. This paper presents the IoT technology from a bird's eye view covering its statistical/architectural trends, use cases, challenges and future prospects. The paper also presents a detailed and extensive overview of the emerging 5G-IoT scenario. Fifth Generation (5G) cellular networks provide key enabling technologies for ubiquitous deployment of the IoT technology. These include carrier aggregation, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), massive-MIMO (M-MIMO), coordinated multipoint processing (CoMP), device-to-device (D2D) communications, centralized radio access network (CRAN), software-defined wireless sensor networking (SD-WSN), network function virtualization (NFV) and cognitive radios (CRs). This paper presents an exhaustive review for these key enabling technologies and also discusses the new emerging use cases of 5G-IoT driven by the advances in artificial intelligence, machine and deep learning, ongoing 5G initiatives, quality of service (QoS) requirements in 5G and its standardization issues. Finally, the paper discusses challenges in the implementation of 5G-IoT due to high data-rates requiring both cloud-based platforms and IoT devices based edge computing.

Abstract:Recently, the Internet of Things (IoT) has gained tremendous popularity in several realms such as smart cities, healthcare, industrial automation, etc. IoT networks are increasing rapidly, containing heterogeneous devices that offer easy and user-friendly services via the internet. With the big shift to IoT technology, the security of IoT networks has become a primary concern, especially with the lack of intrinsic security mechanisms regarding the limited capabilities of IoT devices. Therefore, many studies have been interested in enhancing the security of IoT networks. IoT networks need a scalable, decentralized, and adaptive defense system. Although the area of development provides advanced security solutions using AI and Blockchain, there is no systematic and comprehensive study talking about the convergence between AI and Blockchain to secure IoT networks. In this paper, we focus on reviewing and comparing recent studies that have been proposed for detecting cybersecurity attacks in IoT environments. This paper address three research questions and highlights the research gaps and future directions. This paper aims to increase the knowledge base for enhancing IoT security, recommend future research, and suggest directions for future research.

Abstract:For the next coming years, metaverse, digital twin and autonomous vehicle applications are the leading technologies for many complex applications hitherto inaccessible such as health and life sciences, smart home, smart agriculture, smart city, smart car and logistics, Industry 4.0, entertainment (video game) and social media applications, due to recent tremendous developments in process modeling, supercomputing, cloud data analytics (deep learning, etc.), communication network and AIoT/IIoT/IoT technologies. AIoT/IIoT/IoT is a crucial research field because it provides the essential data to fuel metaverse, digital twin, real-time Industry 4.0 and autonomous vehicle applications. However, the science of AIoT is inherently multidisciplinary, and therefore, it is difficult for readers to understand its evolution and impacts. Our main contribution in this article is to analyze and highlight the trends and challenges of the AIoT technology ecosystem including core hardware (MCU, MEMS/NEMS sensors and wireless access medium), core software (operating system and protocol communication stack) and middleware (deep learning on a microcontroller: TinyML). Two low-powered AI technologies emerge: TinyML and neuromorphic computing, but only one AIoT/IIoT/IoT device implementation using TinyML dedicated to strawberry disease detection as a case study. So far, despite the very rapid progress of AIoT/IIoT/IoT technologies, several challenges remain to be overcome such as safety, security, latency, interoperability and reliability of sensor data, which are essential characteristics to meet the requirements of metaverse, digital twin, autonomous vehicle and Industry 4.0. applications.
