Abstract:
In this research, the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is utilized to numerically analyze the effect of adding nanoparticles and expanded fins on fluid flow in a thermal storage device. The additive nanoparticles are used to reduce the energy dissipation in steady-state and two-dimensional conditions, by an incompressible fluid and within convective heat transfer proceeding. To increase the efficiency of the mentioned system, the longitudinal fins, as well as aluminum oxide nanoparticles, are placed inside the channels. The variation of fin number and nanoparticle weight percentage are two fundamental parameters whose effects on the melting process are analyzed in this study. In this work, a parameter of MAR is defined and applied to represent the melting process acceleration. After the numerical simulation, the results imply that the melting time decreases by increasing the concentration of these particles from 0 to 3%. Also, increasing the weight percentage of nanoparticles from 3% to 4% does not make much difference in speeding up the melting process. Also, the increase in the number of fins can decrease the melting time of paraffin as a phase-change material (PCM), which improves energy storage capability, so that the number of fins is a more effective parameter than the adding of the nanoparticle. Finally, the highest amounts of MAR parameter can be reached, which is around 70, when 3% nanoparticle and 8-fin model is utilized.
