Abstract:The combination of nanoporous materials with organic working fluids holds the promise of further enhancing the performance of refrigerants based thermodynamics cycles. In this study, the adsorption and desorption properties of several organic refrigerants, e.g., R1234yf, R134a, R32, and their mixtures in metal-organic framework materials MOF-5 and Co-MOF-74 are investigated via molecular dynamics methods. The results indicate that the adsorption capacity is inversely proportional to the temperature during the adsorption process, and the adsorption capacity of the R1234yf/R32 mixture (molar ratio 2:1) is higher than that of the corresponding pure working fluids. The desorption amount, desorption regeneration rate, and desorption heat are directly proportional to the temperature. The interactions between different molecular atoms in the mixed working fluids promote the desorption process.

Abstract:Owing to environmental friendliness, R1234ze(E) is considered as an alternative refrigerant, but the flamma-bility restricts its use and promotion. To reduce the combustible risk, nonflammable refrigerants can be blended, while there is a lack of research on mixture flammability. In this paper, the inhibition effects of three typical refrigerants R744, R1336mzz(E) and R1233zd(E) on the flammability of R1234ze(E) were experimentally investigated under the condition of 23 degrees C and 50% relative humidity. The flammable limits at different con-centrations were measured and the critical suppression concentrations of the three retardants were determined as 0.41, 0.2 and 0.4 respectively, by which the parameters of fitting equations to their flammable limits were obtained. The inhibition mechanisms were briefly analyzed in terms of both physical and chemical effects, and typical flame propagation phenomena were compared with further analyses. A model for estimating critical suppression concentrations of ternary blends was established. The critical suppression lines of ternary blends R744/R1234ze(E)/R1336mzz(E) and R744/R1234ze(E)/R1233zd(E) were obtained, by which the nonflam-mable zones of the two ternary blends were preliminarily determined. The results have provided complements for previous studies using R744/R1234ze(E) at flammable concentrations and will contribute to utilize R1234ze (E) and its blends in safety for both scientific researches and industrial applications.

Abstract:As an alternative refrigerant, R1234yf shows great environmental friendliness. However, the flammability has a negative impact on its use and promotion. To lower the combustible risk, it's a proper way to mix with nonflammable refrigerants in applications, but the research on the flammability of these blends is still limited. Therefore, the influence of three typical nonflammable refrigerants CO2, R1336mzz(E) and R1233zd(E) as flame retardants on the flammability of R1234yf was experimentally studied in this paper. With the measurements of flammable limits of R1234yf/CO2, R1234yf/R1336mzz(E) and R1234yf/R1233zd(E) at different concentrations, the parameters of regression equations for their flammable limits were obtained. The critical suppression concentrations of retardant were determined as 0.575, 0.35 and 0.6, respectively. The results showed that their suppression abilities could be ranked as R1336mzz(E)>CO2>R1233zd(E). Then the inhibition mechanisms were analyzed, and the differences in flame colors at flammable limits were compared. With the establishment of estimation model for calculating critical suppression concentrations of ternary blends, the critical suppression lines of CO2/R1234yf/R1336mzz(E) and CO2/R1234yf/R1233zd(E) were obtained, by which the nonflammable zones of them were preliminarily determined. The results will provide practical guidance for the applications utilizing R1234yf and its blends in safety.
