Abstract:Pd(II)-catalyzed oxidation of terminal olefins to methyl ketones has emerged as an attractive strategy for organic synthesis. Here we report the Pd(II)-catalyzed selective oxidation of olefins using tert-butyl hydroperoxide as the oxidant and 2-(1H-indazol-1-yl)quinoline as the ligand. A wide range of olefins were well tolerated in this reaction system to provide methyl ketones, whereas the presence of Ac2O initiated the oxo-acyloxylation to afford the α-acetoxyacetone products. Isotope labeling studies and active-intermediate-capture experiments were performed to elucidate the underlying selective reaction mechanism. Notably, the generation of α-acetoxyacetone products involves the palladium enolate intermediate while the methyl ketone products were generated through the most commonly proposed alkylperoxide intermediates, followed by 1,2-hydride migration.

Abstract:By combining catalytic nucleophilic enamine activation with Pd-catalyzed C-H activation of allylarenes, the first oxidative allylic alkylation of unactivated ketones was achieved. Mechanistically, the Pd-catalyzed allylic C-H activation and proline-catalyzed ketone nucleophilic activation worked synergistically for the oxidative cross-coupling between allylarenes and unactivated ketones.

Abstract:Pd(OAc)2-catalyzed oxidative acetoxylation of benzylic C-H bonds utilizing a bidentate system has been explored. A variety of picolinoyl- or quinoline-2-carbonyl-protected toluidine derivatives react with PhI(OAc)2 in the presence of Pd(OAc)2 to afford the acetoxylated products in synthetically useful yields. A broad of functionalities, such as CH3, F, Cl, Br, I, COCH3, CO2Et, SO2CH3, and NO2, were tolerated. This transformation provides easy access to 2-hydroxymethylaniline derivatives.

Abstract:A synergistic chiral primary amine/palladium /p‐hydroquinone catalysis was developed to facilitate oxidative asymmetric allylic C‐H alkylation under aerobic conditions. The ternary synergistic catalysis enables a facile allylic C‐H activation and alkylation with oxygen so that stoichiometric utilization of benzoquinone can be avoided. The identified optimal catalytic system allows for terminal addition to allyl arenes with α‐branched β‐ketocarbonyls to afford allylic adducts bearing all‐carbon quaternary centers with high regio‐ and enantioselectivity. This work provides new insights for further studies on the aerobically oxidative C‐H alkylation reaction.

Abstract:A method for the allylic alkylation of aminophenol with alkynes was developed using a palladium-catalysed allylation reaction with 100% atom economy. A series of structurally diverse N-allylic substituted allylamines were synthesized in good yields with high chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivities under mild conditions.

Abstract:An efficient quinazoline-assisted ortho-aroylation of 4-phenylquinazolines with aromatic aldehydes has been developed using Pd(OAc)2 as the catalyst in presence of tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP). This work provides an efficient strategy to synthesis of arylketones, giving yields of up to 90%. Meanwhile, the reaction system exhibits good functional group tolerance and a wide substrate scope. Radical trapping and control experiments suggest that the aroylation reaction involves a benzoyl radical pathway.

Abstract:Remarkable progress has been made on chelation-assisted α and β C–H functionalization of aryl alkenes; however, there is no report on C–H allylation reactions. This work focuses on the first α and β C–H allylation of aryl alkenes using allyl carbonates to produce linear and branched 1,4-dienes enabled by chelation-assistance of pyridine-2-carboxamide, simply performed with Pd(OAc) 2 /AcOH in ethanol. This operationally simple protocol exhibited wide functionality tolerance and broad substrate scope and enabled successful gram-scaled preparation.

Abstract:The rapid assembly of an easily accessible terminal alkene, an aliphatic C(sp<sup>3</sup>)–H coupling partner, and allyl carbonate has been established by merging hydrogen atom transfer photocatalyst-mediated nucleophile generation and palladium-catalyzed allylic alkylation. The synthetic utility of this strategy is embodied by a concise synthesis of (±)-mesembrine. Mechanistic studies suggest that this protocol proceeds via a radical/ionic relay process, and a carbanionic species serves as a key intermediate for nucleophile attack on π-allylpalladium through a classic two-electron allylation pathway. Abstract:Highly regio- and enantioselective allylic alkylation has been achieved enabled by the merger of photoredox and palladium catalysis. In this dual catalytic process, alkyl radicals generated from 4-alkyl-1,4-dihydropyridines act as the coupling partners of the π-allyl palladium complexes. The generality of this method has been illustrated through the reaction of a variety of allyl esters with 4-alkyl-1,4-dihydropyridines. This mechanistically novel strategy expands the scope of the traditional Pd-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation reaction and serves as its alternative and potential complement.

Abstract:Here we report an unusual nucleophilic allylation reaction between isatin‐derived Morita–Baylis–Hillman carbonates and simple alkenes synergistically catalyzed by tertiary phosphines and palladium complexes, through chemoselective assemblies of in situ formed onium salts and η 1 ‐allylpalladium species, respectively. A range of 3,3‐disubstituted oxindoles were straightforwardly constructed in moderate to good yields with exclusive linear regioselectivity. Moreover, a number of control and deuterium experiments have been conducted to elucidate the catalytic mechanism.

Abstract:A simple ortho‐acylation of 4‐phenylquinazoline by a Pd‐catalyzed oxidative C–H activation was developed, with moderate yields, in which no prefunctionalized methylarenes were used as acylation reagents. Moreover, this methodology tolerates a wide range of functional groups. Radical scavenging experiments indicate that the acylation involves a benzoyl radical pathway.

Abstract:Versatile and concise Pd-catalyzed oxidative N-alkenylation of N-aryl phosphoramidates with alkenes is described in this study, a reaction that is of great significance but surprisingly unexploited. The transformation proceeds under mild reaction conditions, using O2 as a green oxidant and TBAB as an effective additive. An efficient catalytic system allows a variety of drug-related substrates to participate in these transformations, which is of great interest in the drug discovery and development of phosphoramidates.

Abstract:A palladium‐catalyzed ortho‐directed alkylation of O‐methyl ketoximes that proceeds through a regioselective ring‐opening reaction of epoxides has been demonstrated. This C(sp2)–H activation/alkylation protocol was carried out in pivalic acid/1,1,1,3,3,3‐hexafluoro‐2‐propanol (PivOH/HFIP, 2:8) as the solvent and was applied to various O‐methyl ketoximes that contain either electron‐donating or electron‐withdrawing groups. Moreover, different types of epoxides were used in this alkylation reaction, which proceeded smoothly to give the corresponding products in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:A decarboxylative allylic benzylation cocatalyzed by Pd/photoredox in a regio- and enantioselective manner has been achieved. Readily available aryl acetic acids are used as benzylic nucleophile equivalents without preactivation. This mild and atom-economical protocol expands the scope of coupling partners of allylic electrophiles. Vinyl epoxides could also go through this transformation smoothly, affording various chiral homoallylic alcohols bearing all-carbon quaternary stereocenters.

Abstract:Herein, a palladium-catalyzed 1,3-alkynyl migration of allylic alcohol for the synthesis of β-alkynyl ketone was described. This intramolecular rearrangement reaction demonstrated an enhanced reactivity compared to the traditional intermolecular alkynylation by circumventing the dimerization of alkynes, exhibiting a specific selectivity toward β-alkynyl elimination. Moreover, this reaction featured wide substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and 100% atom economy.
