Abstract:Although the linear oscillatory machine (LOM) can directly output the reciprocating force without transmission mechanism, the most prevailing Redlich-type linear oscillatory machine (RLOM) still easily suffers from low reliability and complex fabrication process, due to its magnet mover and parallel-flux design. Moreover, it usually adopts NdFeB magnets as the only field excitation, leading to a large amount of rare-earth material consumption. In this paper, a less-rare-earth stator-magnet moving-iron transverse-flux linear oscillatory machine (LSMTLOM) has been elaborately designed, to save the overall magnets cost while reaching the similar output force as that of RLOM. Firstly, the topology evolution and the operation principle of LSMTLOM have been illustrated, and then under the same dimension and copper loss restricts, the size parameters of permanent magnets and iron core are carefully selected. Then, the three dimensional finite element analysis (3D FEA) has been carried out to evaluate the performance, and some quantitative comparison with RLOM has been made. Finally, the prototype has been fabricated for experimental validation. Both the simulation and test results show that whilst keeping the same limitation as RLOM, the proposed LSMTLOM can not only reach similar output performance, but also significantly reduce the both the consumption of rare earth material and the overall cost of permanent magnets.
