Abstract:Previous studies have recognized the importance of hospitalized primary care patients' spiritual issues and needs. The sources patients consult to address these spiritual issues, including the role of their attending physician, have been largely unstudied. We sought to study patients' internal and external resources for addressing spiritual questions, while also exploring the physician's role in providing spiritual care. Our multicenter observational study evaluated 326 inpatients admitted to primary care physicians in four midwestern hospitals. We assessed how frequently these patients identified spiritual concerns during their hospitalization, the manner in which spiritual questions were addressed, patients' desires for spiritual interaction, and patient outcome measures associated with spiritual care. Nearly 30% of respondents (referred to as "R/S respondents") reported religious struggle or spiritual issues associated specifically with their hospitalization. Eight-three percent utilized internal religious coping for dealing with spiritual issues. Chaplains, clergy, or church members visited 54% of R/S respondents; 94% found those visits helpful. Family provided spiritual support to 45% of R/S respondents. Eight percent of R/S respondents desired, but only one patient actually received, spiritual interaction with their physician, even though 64% of these patients' physicians agreed that doctors should address spiritual issues with their patients. We conclude that inpatients quite commonly utilize internal resources and quite rarely utilize physicians for addressing their spiritual issues. Spiritual caregiving is well received and is primarily accomplished by professionals, dedicated laypersons, or family members. A significantly higher percentage of R/S patients desire spiritual interaction with their physician than those who actually receive it.

Abstract:Although Muslims are a growing population within many non-Muslim countries, there are insufficient Muslim clinicians to care for them. Studies have shown that non-Muslim clinicians have limited knowledge and understanding of Islamic practices affecting health, which may lead to disparities in the quality of healthcare delivery and outcomes when caring for Muslim patients. Muslims come from many different cultures and ethnicities and have variations in their beliefs and practices. This literature review provides some insights which may strengthen therapeutic bonds between non-Muslim clinicians and their Muslim patients resulting in improved holistic, patient-centered care in the areas of cancer screening, mental health, nutrition, and pharmacotherapy. Additionally, this review informs clinicians about the Islamic perspective on childbirth, end of life issues, travel for Islamic pilgrimage, and fasting during the month of Ramadan. Literature was sourced by a comprehensive search in PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL along with hand screening of citations. Title and abstract screening followed by full-text screening excluded studies including less than 30% Muslim participants, protocols, or reporting results deemed irrelevant to primary care. 115 papers were selected for inclusion in the literature review. These were grouped into the themes of general spirituality, which were discussed in the Introduction, and Islam and health, Social etiquette, Cancer screening, Diet, Medications and their alternatives, Ramadan, Hajj, Mental health, Organ donation and transplants, and End of life. Summarizing the findings of the review, we conclude that health inequities affecting Muslim patients can be addressed at least in part by improved cultural competency in non-Muslim clinicians, as well as further research into this area.

Provision of chaplaincy services in U.S. hospitals: A strategic conformity perspective

Abstract:Background: Increasingly, hospitals are expected to provide patient-centered care that attends to patients' health needs, including spiritual care needs. Chaplaincy services help to meet patients' spiritual care needs, which have been shown to have a positive impact on health outcomes. Variation in the provision of chaplaincy services suggests hospitals do not uniformly conform to the expectation of making chaplaincy services available. Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the availability and factors that influence hospitals' provision of chaplaincy services. Methodology: Data were combined from the American Hospital Association annual surveys with the Area Health Resource File at the county level from 2010 to 2019. Observations on general, acute-care community hospitals were analyzed (45,384 hospital-year observations) using logistic regression that clustered standard errors at the hospital level. Results: Hospitals with Joint Commission accreditation, more staffed beds, nonprofit and government ownership, teaching status, one or more intensive care units, a higher percentage of Medicare inpatient days, church affiliation, and system membership were more likely to provide chaplaincy services than their counterparts. Certification as a trauma hospital and market competition showed no influence on the provision of chaplaincy services. Conclusion: The lack of chaplaincy services in many hospitals may be due to limited resources, workforce shortage, or a lack of consensus on scope and nature of chaplaincy services. Practice implications: Chaplaincy services are an underutilized resource that influences patient experience, clinician burnout and turnover, and the goal of ensuring care is patient-centered. Administrators should consider stronger partnerships where services are provided; researchers and policymakers should consider how the lack of these services in some hospitals may reinforce existing health disparities.

Abstract:Religion and spirituality (R/S) play a significant role in the way many individuals make decisions and structure their lives. The purpose of this exploratory study was to assess the attitudes and preferences of individuals who live or worship in Camden County, NJ, in regards to physicians addressing their religious and spiritual beliefs during medical care. This study was conducted through a survey which inquired about the level of the participant's religiosity/spirituality, specific religion, and attitudes towards and desires for conversations regarding religious and spiritual beliefs during medical care. Many survey participants shared strong opinions about physicians addressing R/S beliefs during medical encounters, with the majority expressing a positive view of conversations about R/S in medical care. The majority of respondents (75%) reported holding religious or spiritual beliefs that they described as important or very important to them, while 60% of participants indicated that their physician's awareness of their R/S beliefs was at least somewhat important to them. Based on the results of this exploratory study, the recommendation of the AAMC and Joint Commission to include conversations about R/S in medical care, as well as the tenets of osteopathic philosophy are consistent with the majority opinion about R/S in medical care that was expressed through this survey.

Abstract:Introduction: Although Muslims constitute nearly one fourth of the global population, many non-Muslims are not familiar with Islam. To address this unique need from such a specific cultural context, the present study aimed to examine the spiritual needs and influencing factors of Indonesian Muslims with cancer. Method: A cross-sectional research design with 122 cancer patients was conducted by using the Bahasa-version Spiritual Needs Questionnaire. Results: The degree of spiritual needs was generally high. Religious needs were the strongest aspect, and “praying five times a day” was the highest scoring item. Gender ( p = .04), age ( p = .01), and duration of being diagnosed with cancer ( p = .01) were associated with spiritual needs. Female gender ( p = .005) and older age ( p < .001) were predictors of spiritual needs. Discussion: As expected to provide cultural-congruent spiritual interventions, nurses could meet Muslim patients’ need to pray five times a day during hospitalization, thus help them manage and endure the illness.

Exploring Muslim Women's Reproductive Health Needs and Preferences in the Emergency Department

Abstract:Objective: We explored individual Muslim women's reproductive healthcare experiences, preferences, beliefs, and behaviors in the emergency department (ED) and in general. Methods: This was a qualitative study conducted at a community ED using semi-structured interviews with a piloted interview guide. We interviewed participants awaiting care in the ED with the following criteria: female gender; English or Arabic speaking; aged ≥18 years; and self-identified as Muslim. We conducted interviews in both English and Arabic until thematic saturation was reached. Transcripts were coded using an iteratively developed codebook, maintaining intercoder agreement greater than 80%. We used an inductive thematic analysis to identify themes, and results were interpreted in the context of interview language and patient's age. Results: We interviewed 26 Muslim-identified female ED patients. We found that cultural representation and sensitivity among ED staff mitigated discrimination and promoted inclusion for Muslim ED patients. However, assumptions about Muslim identity also impacted the participants' healthcare. Most participants endorsed a preference for a female clinician for their reproductive healthcare in general, but not necessarily for other areas of medicine. Clinician cultural concordance was not always preferred for participants in the ED due to fears about the loss of confidentiality. Marital status impacted beliefs about reproductive and sexual health in the context of Muslim identity. Overall, family planning was acceptable and encouraged in this patient population. Conclusion: The themes elucidated in this study may guide clinicians in developing culturally sensitive practices when providing reproductive healthcare to the Muslim population.

Abstract:CONTEXT: Assessment and response to patients' spiritual concerns are crucial components of high-quality supportive care. Better measures of spiritual needs across the cultural spectrum may help direct necessary interventions.OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to assess spiritual needs in a racially/ethnically and religiously mixed sample of hematology and oncology outpatients and examine the association between spiritual needs and perception of quality of care and satisfaction with care.METHODS: This is an observational study of 727 racially/ethnically and religiously diverse outpatients. Spiritual needs were measured using a validated, 23-item questionnaire, the Spiritual Needs Assessment for Patients. Scales were administered in four languages.RESULTS: Forty-four percent were white, 13% Hispanic, 25% black, and 14% Asian. English was the primary language for 57%; 59% considered themselves "spiritual but not religious." At least one spiritual need was reported by 79%. Forty-eight percent were comfortable having their physician inquire about spiritual needs. Compared with English-speaking patients, Russian-speaking patients reported lower spiritual needs (P = 0.003). Patients who considered themselves "spiritual but not religious" (P = 0.006) reported a higher level of spiritual needs. Higher spiritual needs were associated with less satisfaction with care (P = 0.018) and lower perception of quality of care (P = 0.002).CONCLUSION: Spiritual needs are common in an ethnically, religiously, and linguistically diverse cancer patient population but may differ by cultural background. High levels of spiritual need are associated with lower levels of satisfaction and diminished perception of quality of care. Training clinicians to address patients' spiritual concerns, with attention to cultural differences, may improve patients' experiences of care.

Abstract:Cancer screening behaviors in Muslims are under-researched, and there is limited data on how it relates to their unique cultural and religious beliefs. We assessed cancer prevention and screening-related health needs in the Washington DC area. We developed the needs assessment questionnaires and recruitment strategy in collaboration with key faith leaders from four mosques in our catchment area. A total of 203 participants were recruited through community outreach and engagement approaches and were included in the discussion when developing the needs assessment to ensure questions were religiously and culturally sensitive. Of the 203 participants, 56% of women reported receiving screening for a mammogram, while 83% of women reported receiving a screening for cervical cancer. Among men, 45% reported receiving a prostate cancer antigen test to screen for prostate cancer. Among both men and women, 35% reported ever receiving a screening for colorectal cancer. Women reported relying more on their faith when dealing with health concerns than men. Those who did not get screened for breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer relied more on their faith than those who did get screened for these cancers. Participants expressed interest in having health initiatives around cancer education, screening, and survivorship inside mosques. Faith beliefs can influence cancer screening behaviors; however, the relationship between these two variables needs further examination. Continued engagement with key faith leaders can help in leveraging religious beliefs to promote health education and cancer screening.

Associations Between Every day and Medical Setting-Based Discrimination and Religious and Sociodemographic Characteristics of Muslim Americans: Findings from a National Survey

Abstract:We investigated the associations between sociodemographic factors, religiosity traits, and the perception of discrimination among Muslim Americans in both everyday life and medical settings. A self-administered web-based questionnaire, comprising validated measures of discrimination and religiosity, was completed by a convenience sample of English-speaking adult Muslim Americans, recruited through both in-person and online channels. Among the 1281 respondents, less than half were born in the USA (46%), and a significant portion displayed visible religious markers, such as wearing a hijab or having a beard (61%). Only 154 (12%) reported never experiencing everyday discrimination, while 358 (28%) reported not experiencing discrimination in medical settings. In a multivariable linear regression model, greater perceived everyday discrimination (β = 1.053, p < 0.01) was positively associated with greater discrimination in medical settings. Participants more comfortable self-identifying as Muslim in hospital settings (β = -0.395, p < 0.05) were less likely to perceive healthcare discrimination. Those visibly expressing their religiosity (β = 0.779, p < 0.01) and those with greater intrinsic religiosity (β = 0.231, p < 0.05) were more likely to encounter everyday discrimination. Conversely, older participants (β = -0.015, p < 0.05), adult immigrants to the US (β = -0.375, p < 0.05), those in better health (β = -0.157, p < 0.05), and those more comfortable identifying as Muslim (β = -0.305, p < 0.05) had lower perceptions of everyday discrimination. This study underscores the significance of the relationship between religiosity characteristics and experiences of both hospital and everyday discrimination for Muslim Americans.

Abstract:Objectives: This study aimed to identify the level of spirituality, faith and meaning, and quality of life (QOL) among Muslim advanced cancer patients undergoing active treatment and to enhance the understanding of the relationships among clinical and socio-demographic factors, spirituality, and QOL of patients in the Gaza Strip. Methods: A secondary analysis was conducted on a convenience sample of 298 advanced cancer patients. The Arabic versions of the Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-Being (FACIT-Sp) and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G) were used for data collection. Descriptive statistics and generalized linear regression were utilized for data analysis, performed using SPSS 25.0. Results: Participants reported high spirituality well-being scores (Mean = 31.25, SD = 6.25) and relatively high scores on the subscales of meaning/peace (Mean = 19.15, SD = 4.11) and faith (Mean = 12.03, SD = 3.50). Most patients indicated that their faith and spiritual beliefs increased due to their illness. Furthermore, a significant positive relationship was found between spirituality (including its subscales of faith and meaning in life) and QOL. Despite the generally high level of spirituality, special attention should be paid to patients with lung, bladder, and thyroid cancer, lower education levels, and higher cancer grades. Conclusions: The Gazan Muslim patients with advanced cancer exhibit high levels of spirituality and faith. We acknowledged that spiritual well-being is a protective factor for QOL. The strong positive correlation between spirituality and QOL emphasizes the need to integrate spiritual care into cancer care. Implications for nursing practice: It is imperative to incorporate spirituality into health practice and the daily routines of cancer treatment for patients whose spirituality is an important aspect of their identities. The incorporation of spirituality can contribute to the improvement of the quality of patients' life and quality of cancer care.

Abstract:Objective This article investigates the intricate interplay between spirituality, religion, healthcare services, and cultural diversity concerning non-communicable diseases. Methods The authors thoroughly searched scholarly articles in databases like CINAHL Database, PubMed, and MEDLINE. This search utilised English keywords. A review of these articles involved three approaches: a thorough investigation, a content analysis and historical context. Results There is a clear deficiency in cancer patients' access to spiritual and religious healthcare treatments. This is not just a gap but extends to a failure to meet the all-encompassing requirements of individuals grappling with the multifaceted challenges of cancer. The lack of dedicated services deprives patients of crucial support for their emotional and spiritual well-being, impacting the holistic nature of their care. Recognising the profound psychological and spiritual implications of cancer, tailored spiritual and religious services have the potential to provide comfort, encouragement, and a sense of purpose. Conclusions The analysis emphasises the interconnectedness of spiritual and religious healthcare services with cultural diversity. It comprehensively depicts the varied cultural dimensions of delivering these services to individuals battling cancer.
Associations among patient characteristics, health-related quality of life, and spiritual well-being among Arab Muslim cancer patients

Abstract:Background: Despite Islam being the world's second largest religion and despite the fact that there are 22 Arabic-speaking nations representing North Africa and the Middle East, little is known about the relationship between spiritual well-being and health-related quality of life (HrQoL) for Arabic-speaking Muslims in treatment for cancer. Aim: The study's aim was to determine whether spiritual well-being is correlated with HrQoL and whether participants' age, sex, marital status, site of cancer, and stage of disease are related to spiritual well-being. Design: Using a cross-sectional design, a total of 159 Arabic-speaking, study-eligible cancer patients who were in treatment at the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC), Amman, Jordan, completed three questionnaires: a demographic questionnaire; the Functional Assessment in Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G), which assesses the physical, social, functional, and emotional domains of HrQoL; and the Functional Assessment in Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-being (FACIT-Sp). Results: Physical well-being was negatively correlated with the FACIT-Sp for men, divorced, and stage IV disease. Social Well-being was positively correlated with the FACIT-Sp for ages 18-34 and 35-49 years; both sexes; married, never married, and divorced; breast, bone/sarcoma, and gastrointestinal cancers; and stages II-IV. Emotional Well-being was negatively correlated with the FACIT-Sp for ages 35-49; males; never married; and stages III and IV. Functional Well-being was positively correlated with the FACIT-Sp for ages 35-49 and 50-64; both sexes; married or never married; and stages II and III. Age and cancer site showed a positive relationship with spiritual well-being. Conclusions: The FACIT-Sp distinguishes between domains of HrQoL and patient characteristics. Further study on the unique contribution of the FACIT-Sp's Peace and Meaning subscales to HrQoL is needed.
(266) Examining the Experience of Sexual Dysfunction and Spiritual Abuse among Cisgender Muslim Women in North America

Abstract:Introduction Muslim women are an underrepresented and underserved population in North America who often do not seek care for their sexual traumas and sexual difficulties. In order to better serve this population with minimal bias, it is important for healthcare providers to understand their vast experiences with spiritual abuse and sexual dysfunction, as well as reasons for not seeking healthcare related to sexual dysfunction. Objective To understand the experiences of cisgender Muslim women in North America with regards to sexual function, sexual abuse and spiritual abuse. Methods To investigate these topics, a survey was administered to 771 Muslims between the ages of 18–45 who live in the US and Canada 2020. The majority of respondents were heterosexual females, were part of the Sunni sect of Islam, had a bachelor's degree or higher, and were of South Asian, Asian, Middle Eastern, or Arab ancestry. Aspects of sexual functioning such as the frequency of sexual desire, arousal during sexual intercourse, achievement of orgasm, and pain during or after vaginal penetration were assessed. Results Of the 158 respondents who reported having experienced sexual pain, only 34.4% sought healthcare for this problem. The most commonly cited reasons included fear or shame, unawareness, doubt that the situation would improve, and resolution of the pain on its own. 530 participants were asked if religion or spirituality have been used to: force them to make decisions they are opposed to (76.4%), force them to engage in a non-consensual sexual act (14.6%), isolate from others (57.9%), minimize the abuse they experienced (48.7%), or prevent them from speaking out against abuse (53.9%). Conclusions This data provides insight into a Muslim cohort's frequency of sexual burdens which include dysfunction and abuse. Understanding how spiritual abuse can influence patients' familial, romantic, and sexual relationships may help providers to administer culturally competent care to Muslim patients. Disclosure No.

Abstract:Diversifying the chaplain workforce in hospital spiritual care departments and Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) programs is essential for meeting the needs of a religiously diverse population in the USA. We interviewed seven total participants, including two Somali Muslim chaplain students and their Muslim and Christian chaplain educators in one CPE program. Participants described their personal journeys and motivations for pursuing careers in healthcare chaplaincy, their impact on hospitalized patients, and the role of expanding perspectives for those with little prior exposure to Somali Muslim faith leaders. Representation and linguistic diversity were viewed as positive attributes despite challenges of racial and religious discrimination. Recommendations include adjusting educational requirements for entry into the field to consider professional equivalencies; engaging community chaplains; and collaborating with local communities. These findings have important implications on creating pathways for spiritual care providers from underrepresented faith traditions to meet local community needs.

This is an action research study in which a total of 11 nurses and 76 hospitalized patients were recruited using purposive and convenience sampling, respectively. Data were collected using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. In the action cycles, the participants' concerns were examined, constructed, then evaluated, and re-constructed using reflective assessment. The qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed using the content analysis approach and the Mann–Whitney <i>U</i>, Chi-squared, and t-tests, respectively. At the first stage, the results of the content analysis showed the lack of professional knowledge and the existence of organizational barriers in the provision of spiritual care for patients. Reflection in the final stage led to the discovery of four concepts including (a) perceived advantages of change in performance, (b) being capable of providing spiritual care, (c) getting positive feedback, and (d) preparation for improving the provision of spiritual care. The results of the quantitative analysis indicated a significant increase in the mean score of patient satisfaction after the provision of spiritual care (<i>p</i> = .001). The results of this study led the authors to a deeper understanding of various dimensions of spiritual care among patients hospitalized in the cardiology ward and ultimately improved the patients and their families' level of satisfaction.

Abstract:Background: Spirituality and spiritual health are an integral component of an individual's health and wellbeing. Among medical undergraduates and professionals, spiritual health has positive effects on the individual by decreasing burnout, psychological distress, and rates of substance abuse. Spiritual health is also correlated with increased satisfaction and meaning in life. Spiritual health also influences future patient care, builds patient- provider communication channels, and improves patient outcomes. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the spiritual health levels of medical undergraduates in a medical college, in Karnataka, India, and to identify the factors associated with it. Using a pre-designed, validated semi-structed questionnaire, 600 medical undergraduates were approached and provided the forms. Spiritual health was assessed across the three domains of self-development, self-actualization, and self-realization using the Spiritual Health Assessment Scale (SHAS). Results: A total of 436 medical undergraduates participated. Majority (67.7%) of participants were girls. Most (62%) were found to have fair spiritual health with a large portion of the rest (36%) having good spiritual health and 2% had poor spiritual health. A significant association was found between spiritual health and the father's (p=0.005) and mother's (p=0.012) education levels. Spiritual health was also found to be associated with living in a nuclear family (p=0.04). Conclusions: Majority of the medical undergraduates had fair spiritual health. Parents' education levels and nuclear family were significantly associated with spiritual health.
Unmet spiritual care needs impact emotional and spiritual well-being in advanced cancer patients

Abstract:PurposeSpiritual care is an important part of healthcare, especially when facing the crisis of advanced cancer. Do oncology inpatients receive spiritual care consistent with their needs? When inconsistent, are there deleterious effects on patient outcomes?MethodsPatients with advanced cancer (N = 150) were surveyed during their inpatient stay at a southeastern medical center using validated instruments documenting spirituality, quality of life, mood, and satisfaction with care. Relationships between the receipt of less spiritual care than desired and patient outcomes were examined.ResultsAlmost all patients had spiritual needs (91%) and the majority desired and received spiritual care from their healthcare providers (67%; 68%), religious community (78%; 73%), and hospital chaplain (45%; 36%). However, a significant subset received less spiritual care than desired from their healthcare providers (17%), religious community (11%), and chaplain (40%); in absolute terms, the number who received less care than desired from one or more sources was substantial (42 of 150). Attention to spiritual care would improve satisfaction with care while hospitalized for 35% of patients. Patients who received less spiritual care than desired reported more depressive symptoms [adjusted β (SE) = 1.2 (0.47), p = 0.013] and less meaning and peace [adjusted β (SE) = −2.37 (1.15), p = 0.042].ConclusionsA substantial minority of patients did not receive the spiritual care they desired while hospitalized. When spiritual needs are not met, patients are at risk of depression and reduced sense of spiritual meaning and peace. Spiritual care should be matched to cancer patients’ needs.

Abstract:Purpose: Engagement of healthcare professionals with patients from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds is crucial in our multicultural society, where miscommunication and errors in medical history taking can lead to incorrect treatment. In particular, Muslim patients may present unique considerations due to their specific cultural and religious beliefs, which can significantly impact treatment outcomes. This study focuses on perioperative medication therapy for patients undergoing upper and lower gastrointestinal tract and pancreatic tumor surgery, specifically examining whether Islamic beliefs were duly considered in medication selection compared to a matching patient cohort. Materials and methods: Data from January 2004 to July 2023 were analyzed. Muslim patients were identified using the onomastic method and matched with non-Muslim patients at a 1:3 ratio based on age, gender, and procedure. Analysis included examination of subcutaneous, oral, and intravenous medications, with attention to ingredients and compatibility with Islamic principles. Results: Among 5272 patients, only 5 met the study's inclusion criteria as Muslim patients, undergoing procedures such as anterior rectum resection, gastrectomy, and pancreatic head resection. Their religious affiliations were not documented in the admission records. According to the matched-pair analysis, consistent treatment was performed regardless of religious beliefs. All patients received subcutaneous medication, primarily enoxaparin, instead of fondaparinux, an Islam-compliant alternative. Intravenous heparin was used once for short period. Contrary to Islamic dietary restrictions and the availability of alternatives, capsules containing animal-derived gelatin and other non-compliant medications were administered orally. Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of acknowledging Muslim patients' cultural and religious backgrounds in the perioperative setting, as failure to do so may lead healthcare professionals to overlook their potential alternative medication needs, which are essential for providing tailored medical care in modern societies. Integration of diversity-related topics into medical curricula is essential for better preparing physicians for clinical practice and ensuring patient-centered care.

Abstract:PurposeThis paper aimed to discover the requirements of hospital-based spiritual care for cancer patients.MethodsThis study was a descriptive qualitative-exploratory research, in which 25 participants were selected through purposive sampling and had semi-structured interviews.ResultThe data analysis revealed 3 themes and 8 sub-themes including fundamental requirements (changes in the attitudes and behaviors of the healthcare team), structural requirements (inter-professional collaborations, a reference system), and functional requirements (religious-spiritual, pastoral, psycho-spiritual, and supportive-spiritual care). In this study, the received topics have been related to the spiritual care which can help improve patient care.ConclusionThe results were added to the repertoire of knowledge about the spiritual needs of cancer patients. The results indicated that it is essential to get acquainted with the spiritual care requirements in the hospital and enforce them through inter-professional collaboration. Accordingly, the spiritual care program should be designed, implemented, and evaluated.
