Abstract:The relentless pursuit of technological advancement has fueled intensive research into nanoarchitectures as fundamental components of various devices. One-dimensional (1-D) nanomaterials, including nanorods, nanowires, and nanotubes, have garnered significant attention due to their distinctive catalytic, optical, and electronic properties. Metal chalcogenides, and particularly Bismuth sulphide (Bi 2 S 3 ), has emerged as promising candidates for diverse applications ranging from sensing devices to solar cells. Bi 2 S 3 , belonging to the metal chalcogenides family, exhibits unique properties owing to its narrow band gap, low work function and anisotropic crystal structure. This work presents a novel approach to synthesize Bi 2 S 3 nanorods and incorporate iron (Fe) to form FeS- Bi 2 S 3 heterostructure via a one-step, template-free hydrothermal method. The synthesized nanomaterials are evaluated for their field emission characteristics, a vital property for numerous electronic applications. By comparing the field emission behaviour of pristine Bi 2 S 3 and FeS- Bi 2 S 3 heterostructures, insights into the impact of heterostructuring FeS for field emission performance are elucidated. This study underscores an insight into tailoring heterostructure of different transition metal with Bi 2 S 3 and studying their field emission behavior.
